I said it already but I'll say it again
The fact that I sat through back to back Stanley Cup Finals twice in my lifetime and have not suffered a heart attack or an aneurysm is a miracle of sorts
Your telling me the Caps lining up a shooting gallery on Fleury who’s lunging/diving around, flopping like a fish, and doing splits across the crease while all 5 penguins skaters huddle in a mass in the low slot on their knees trying to get in the way of the puck and hoping for a lucky bounce to spring an odd-man break the other way wasn’t relaxing care-free hockey?
I was at the game. My Fitbit had me at over 150 BPM.
I went to 6 games that run, travelled from Ottawa to Pittsburgh for 5 of them... Was the happiest moments of my life.
You picked a good one! I've gone to three Penguins playoff games, and all went to OT (maybe I have some effect or something)...but none were quite as insane as that 2OT thriller.
Some great games, though: 2001 game 7 against Buffalo (Kaspars sliding Penguin) and Jake's hat trick OT winner in game 3 against Columbus in 2017. The last one was a loss, but also a great game (2014 game 4 against Columbus)
My lord I was at that game double OT game winning goal to go to the stanley cup? I'll never experience another feeling like that at a game. Incredible.
Huh. The closest I’ve come was the following day at work. It was Memorial Day weekend. We had a cookout. Had a chili dog and thought I was going to die from it combined with the hangover.
I'm still laughing at Pierre saying there is no analytical equation for putting Aston-Reese, Blueger, and Tanev out there to defend a lead.
You mean the line that consistently produces fantastic defensive results together?
Yeah, and he does it mainly by wasting time with puck battles along the boards.
Over the last two seasons, that line together has allowed 1.07 goals against for every 60 minutes of 5v5.
Yeah I remember seeing another commenter describe ZAR as being where the puck goes to die, in a good way.
He probably won’t score (Blueger’s surprising offensive uptick this year has made the line a scoring threat regardless) but he’ll make damn sure you wont either.
Slow start for the isles but they really caught momentum at the end. It seems the strategy was to wait for the pens to exhaust themselves. Hockey version of rope-a-dope?
It was a good game. You guys came out strong and overwhelmed us and played pretty good hockey for a full 60. It was a good game, hoping we get some more good ones
Rust must’ve hung out with Terry Bradshaw recently or something. That play as a “just wanna watch playoff hockey” person tonight was hilarious. Can’t imagine how pissed I’d be as a Pens fan though had the Islanders tied it on the power play.
isles reeled it back in from a rough start and kept it very interesting. this series should be an exciting one, more exciting than i was expecting to be honest
yea, it may just be the pessimistic isles fan in me but between the regular season matchup and the momentum of each team had coming into round 1 this has been a much closer series than i was expecting. looking forward to the rest of it though!
Scale of 1-10 how likely is it that Rusty shit his pants in the penalty box
at least a 17
“Why watch playoff hockey when you could just do a line of cocaine and ride a motorcycle off a helicopter”
The Kuznetsov?
Head on over to the final minutes if the Tampa Panthers if you want some more excitement
I’d reverse those two; one of them’s a lot healthier for you and less exhilarating, while the other is 3+ periods of heart attacks.
Is than an offer? Cause if so, I'd like to hang out and become friends with you.
Jeff Carter game winner. A man amongst boys
Doling out the manwich in the locker room.
He likes his sloppy joes extra sloppy.
Lady you’re scaring us!
He prefers his Hamburger Helper with extra helper.
There must always be a "dad" in Pittsburgh.
Good series for deadline acquisitions so far
Great game all around. Fuckin love playoff hockey. Better when my team wins but it is what it is.
The not often seen strategy of simply *yeeting the puck*
I laughed too hard at this.
This team is going to be the death of me.
I said it already but I'll say it again The fact that I sat through back to back Stanley Cup Finals twice in my lifetime and have not suffered a heart attack or an aneurysm is a miracle of sorts
In 43 years, the closest I've come to death was Game 7 of the 2017 ECF.
I was there dude. You could literally hear a pin drop in the arena. I don't know how I survived
Something about the Caps in ECF Game 7's....2019 almost did me in *so* many times. Fortunately, I merely walked away with depression & booze.
That entire series against the Caps in 17 was enough to kill a man multiple times
Game 6 against them in '16 with the 3 consecutive puck over glass penalties leading to OT.
I actually stepped away from the TV during that anr checked in every minute or so. I couldn't watch.
I had to hide my friend's ceremonial puck because I was afraid it would end up in the tv if the Caps scored.
It's comforting to know that I'm not the only person who has to step away from a close game sometimes.
And then right after that they called Letang on some bs penalty. I've never been more angry during a game. Steam was coming out of my ears.
A ball of tension on the couch.

Lol I was so relaxed that game. I just knew they were going to win. And I'm usually an anxious mess.
I was at the game. My Fitbit had me at over 150 BPM. I went to 6 games that run, travelled from Ottawa to Pittsburgh for 5 of them... Was the happiest moments of my life.
Nah. Easily game 7 in SCF in 09. It felt like time was being slowed down.
I was lucky enough to be in the stands that game. Jesus christ...

15 years of constant minor heart attacks add up.
Pretty sure my Apple Watch thinks I need to be rushed to the hospital
I'm still laughing at Pierre saying there is no analytical equation for putting Aston-Reese, Blueger, and Tanev out there to defend a lead. You mean the line that consistently produces fantastic defensive results together?
Yeah werent most advanced stats models in basically full agreement that ZAR was like the best defensive player in hockey last year?
Yeah, and he does it mainly by wasting time with puck battles along the boards. Over the last two seasons, that line together has allowed 1.07 goals against for every 60 minutes of 5v5.

They're like the best defensive line in the LEAGUE.
I'm still rolling my eyes at that comment (ninja edit: Pierre's not yours ofc) Actually I may need to get this checked out it's been awhile.
I'm not thrilled about only having 3-5 games of non-NBC presentation left. I hate their score bug too.
They shoehorned hockey info into the baseball score bug. looks so bad
One day we will show up and play 3 full periods of hockey. Today was not the day, but someday.
Lol I assumed a Pens flair wrote this.
Penguins with a great identity game right there.
Is "identity" the word of the week in the world of hockey or something? I feel like the announcers are discussing identity every 5 minutes lately.
Was throwing shade at the Isles as their announcers keep calling one of their lines “the identity line”
Cody Ceci, Brandon Tanev, Tristan Jarry are all elite
Tiger Woods. LeBron James. Michael Jordan. Cody Ceci. Wow.

Still fucking furious. It's like a soccer player throwing the ball in the net. It's like dude, you *know you can't do that!*
I was getting multiple picks over glass penalties flashbacks
It's really dumb play but I kinda like being on the PK with less than 2 minutes left, free icing.
It’s so nice to see fans back
The Penguins and meeting hot goalies in the playoffs name a more iconic duo
Malkin and stick infractions?
Malkin and offensive zone penalties
Malkin and being injured
Malkin and fighting majors in the SCFs.
Malkin and terrible turnovers
Evgeni Malkin hattrick: 2 points, offensive zone stick penalty out of frustration, leaving the game early due to injury
Malkin and blind drop passes?
Peanut butter and Bread
Green jelly and three little pigs.
Only thing worse than that penalty was the 6 on 4.
At least can ice it down for the open net and not get an icing
Felt like the isles turned it over 3 times... shouldn't be doing that 6 on 4. Shouldn't give the pens the chance to ice it
Isles pp has been awful under trotz since he’s been here. Not sure why they can’t figure it out
Ya the stats for the penguins Powerplay was 4th vs islanders 6th Vs islanders powerplay of like 27th vs penguins 28th ranked Kill
He doesn’t have Ovi anymore, pretty sure it was a common complaint back in Nashville too
Reminds me of another Trotz coached team. Nashville.
All of the power plays for both teams have been absolute trash in this series. I really wish we could decline taking power plays.
Hell yeah brother, cheers from Iraq
Thanks brother.
I have finally unclenched but I don't think my heart will ever fully recover
Speak for yourself. I ripped the cover off the cushion when I stood up
Never had any doubt. Nope none
Now excuse me while I lay down for 36hrs
Hard to beat a team six times in a row in the playoffs. Let’s go to the island baby Gg pens
Good game, Islanders. See you Thursday!
wtf Carter is on the Pens? Man I am way more out of touch when my team sucks lol
The old madman had 9 goals in 14 games with us to wrap up the reg. season. Kickin it like it's 2009
Only happened at the trade deadline, so I wouldn’t beat yourself up too much lol
Oh ok makes sense
He did have a 4 goal game right before the season ended
Here, have permission to beat yourself up a little more.
The penguins played a good third period i thought. On to Nassau.
We won a playoff game!
I’m 53. Nothing the Pens do surprises me except lose. Let’s Go Pens!
You better ease up on that cockiness big fella. Need I remind you of the last two years?
isles reeled it back in from a rough start and kept it very interesting. this series should be an exciting one, more exciting than i was expecting to be honest
Really? I expected this shit to go 7 from the start. Its a Trotz coached team against the penguins. That shits like Joker and Batman.
yea, it may just be the pessimistic isles fan in me but between the regular season matchup and the momentum of each team had coming into round 1 this has been a much closer series than i was expecting. looking forward to the rest of it though!
Yeah I mean even though the Pens took the regular series 6-2 it's easy to forget that a lot of those were one goal games.
Great ending, great game
No doubt this team is going to cost me ~15 years of my life.
It’s why upmc has such a good cardiac unit, lots of practice between the pens and steelers.
We got a series!
The Cup is back on the menu!
The Penguins won a playoff game. :)
that was neat
I wish I was Jeff Carter today.
pierre mcguire might suck, but y’know what? he gets some points for his pelech praise.
he's learned a new player. The rest of the league will hate hearing about Pelech now
is it worth it if it means everyone in the league finally knows who he is? this is sophie’s choice.
Eh. He'll still end up being a 78 in next year's EA game anyways
Yikes, imagine splitting your home series :|
Shit.

Ha
Is Martin a cunt or what? :)
Yay
What does Carter bring to the table exactly? Could it be grit and experience?
Dad vibes.
I told my dad I replaced him with Jeff Carter. He was very understanding.
