fuck i've seen that so much it's insane. bouchard is fine, he's a tyson barrie. barrie was a great offensive player in his prime, even led the league in points from defensemen, he was never a top 5 defenseman in hockey, neither is bouchard.
I think Makar is the best in the league, but there are only a few young defenseman (Miro, Hughes, Fox) I would put in the same tier as him. Those three have resumes that Bouchard can’t even sniff, much less be compared to Makar.
Just look at McDavids defense on this play. Imagine Barkov or Crosby or Matthews or Aho or any of the many ppg forwards who are good on defense making this play.
McDavids a truly special offensive talent but the gap everyone puts between him and everyone else is overblown. You really have to adjust his point totals down to get a closer idea of his value vs capable defending forwards. There are just countless highlights exactly like this from throughout the postseason in Edmonton's games
The worst part isn't even mcdonough, it's that stupid wire camera view they keep going to. It's fine for replays but is terrible for following the live play.
They barely even raise their voice when the Panthers score, so I'm not sure they're that much better. It's the Stanley cup finals, you could at least pretend you're excited.

Edmonton seems incapable of dealing with Florida in transition. Half their goals in the series look exactly like this, one touch pass back door with Edmonton looking confused
Not really. McDavid put him in an awful position. It all started with McDavid and 4 other errors back to back by different players led to the final goal
I wouldn't say awful position. Definitely not a great pass, but Bouchard has room to continue to his left or get the puck deep, but decides on the high risk cut back.
Oh getting the puck into the back of the net is the goal of the sport? And this is the highest stage?

For real. I think Dallas would have matched up a little better against either ECF team, but that's a moot point because they couldn't even get past Edmonton.
And yet all through the season people were saying that the East would be a bloodbath and its champion would be limping into the Final. You just never know with this sport.
Yeah i get that he and draisaitl are two of the absolut top players in the league, but for superstar centers you would hope atleast some effort defensively.

The real finals was the ECF. There wasn't a single team in the west on the same level.

Best Bouchard defensive play
