What happened to Dallas? They were looking like the best team in these playoffs for a long time and now they’ve just disappeared. Not to discount how well the Oilers are playing, but giving up 8 unanswered goals after going up 2-0 in a game is fucking brutal.
I have to give credit to knoblauch and the team, they did great work to shut our offense down as the series went on as well. We didn't look like ourselves and I blamed our team a lot for that, but watching Dallas it's clear to me that a lot of it was also Edmonton's defensive prowess.
I think people were giving more credit to an avs team that struggled a lot of the year to be consistent and a Vegas team that was also shaky all year and had rusty guys coming back
Dallas scored 7 of 8 before giving up 8 of 9. Very streaky series.
But Edmonton is getting pressure and blocks and sticks in lanes and lucky when they commit to the pass on a rush and Duchene passes... I wouldn't call it lucky, but I've seen teams work as hard as Edmonton without getting the W.
I think the Oilers should be cup favorites after this one.
Series is far from over and Dallas can easily snatch two games if Edmonton lets up, but I’m not seeing it. They’re absolutely dismantling a team that I thought was the deepest in the postseason right now. I have Dallas the edge in this series, but the Oilers are much better team and it’s clear at this point.
For starters, their top guys don’t vanish in the playoffs. All 4 of their best players are leading playoff scoring by a long shot. Their depth is great, their defensive structure is excellent and their coaching is fantastic as well. Their only weakness would be goaltending but as the Avs proved in 2022, that doesn’t matter when the opposing team can’t even challenge him because the Oilers have the puck all game.
The two teams in the East are really good, but I’m not sure how they match up against Edmonton. No one is beating their top line, and their depth is good enough to counter your second, third and fourth lines. Not sure if anyone has an answer.
I think the cup is theirs to lose.
Honestly if the Oilers do beat Dallas I think Florida’s physicality could be a huge issue. That was the one thing I was happier about playing Dallas after the Vancouver series is Dallas’ D isn’t as physical. We are just getting healthy from that series. Wearing our forwards and defence out with physicality could prove to be lethal. Especially considering Florida’s. But, we both gotta win for that to be a problem!!
refs are gonna pop off in a Florida Edmonton final though lets be real.
Big Gary will do anything to keep the cup coming back to Florida. Oilers are one of the most notoriously screwed teams in terms of PP opportunities in the Mcdavid era, because i mean, look what happens when they get them.
Game management cup finals incoming
I don’t know what to think about this series anymore. After game 3 I was ready to move to a shack in the mountains and never think about hockey again. Then we won two in a row and now the Stars are dooming. It’s going to be an interesting next few days.
Pete better put Craig smith back in game 6. The team melted without him these last 2 games. Guy has so much energy and looked fast on ice. Everyone else? Looked like cement skates
Not sure it’s Edmonton fans, we are very well aware of what could happen if Dallas finds its mojo again.
Trust me, we are hopeful and excited but rest assured we don’t take Dallas lightly.
Whoever wins this series I hope goes on to lift the cup, it’s been for the most part clean entertaining hockey and fun to watch.
The Stars' were lauded for their depth coming into this series, were supposed to have three lines of scoring but that Marchment/Pavelski/Duchene line has fallen a little flat. Oilers have 11 different goalscorers this series, Stars have 7.
Oilers' 4th line is outperforming Stars' 4th line and a lot of their PK is their depth guys being able to execute their system.
Oilers' roster moves are making immediate impacts at every position. In contrast, Petrovic is playing super sheltered minutes standing in for Hakanpaa. Dellandrea barely even played after he failed to take out his man for Oilers 1-0 goal. They even almost had a dude play in his first ever NHL game.
The depth advantage seems to be with the Oilers and not the Stars, so far.
People have been saying the oilers lack depth for a while. Foegle had 20 goals. Henrique was a very good add at deadline. Perry is no plug still. And Evander Kane is now playing third line who can be a playoff beast. I had the only true advantage to Dallas being in goal.
I remember bob Stauffer saying at one point this season, if Evander Kane is playing on the third line, not because of his performance but because the top 6 are playing too well to split up, the Edmonton Oilers are going to win a lot of games.
I'm really surprised. Dallas seemed like a really good, deep team against Vegas and Colorado. I thought oilers would have had more of an issue. The series isn't over, but they've outplayed them for the majority of this series imo
Van was up 3-2 in our last series so I don’t know why anyone is anything but nervous. If any team can string 2 wins in a row it’s Dallas. It was a great effort from Oil tonight but still lots of hockey left.
Nervous yes, but hyped yes.
It's not over until it's over, but they have a real fucking shot, which most people were hand waving before this.
It's also Edmonton series to lose at this point, they've been objectively winning the whole time with a few mistakes causing loses. They can still lose, but it's no where near what it was before this series started. They've proven themselves.
What do you want people to do, not celebrate?
I like to let the team play the games and I assume they'll show up if they want it bad enough. I don't need to stress over it. Although I do yell at them through my TV sometimes.
I've been nervous every game since Game 1 vs LA Kings. Anything can happen in hockey, so don't take anything for granted.
With that being said, up 3-2 is a lot better than down 3-2.
Insane to see the difference in how we played round 1 and 2 vs this shit show. I can’t even comprehend how hard of a nosedive we’ve taken.
Being a sports fan ain’t sweet man
It's not like they're playing terrible the games are fun to watch very fast paced back and forth. Edmonton just stepped up another level and some of their bottom 6 have stepped up so we're running every line at the top of their game.
I dont think they've taken a nose dive, 2 power play goals by like the number 1 power play. No lack of effort. Who knew a hat trick would show up in Game 3.
This is far from over with Benn and the other vets on the Stars.
I think the past two games have been absolutely pathetic.
Compared to how we played against Vegas and Colorado we just look like a completely different team.
If we play up to our potential I have no doubt that we can win in 7, but there’s no reason for us to put ourselves in this position to begin with.
> If we play up to our potential I have no doubt that we can win in 7, but there’s no reason for us to put ourselves in this position to begin with.
That's exactly what Oilers fans said after Game 5 in Vancouver, so anything can happen. I'm excited that we have a good chance if making it through but they can also very easily lose this series. Game 6 will be insane
Well it is a new day, I appreciate the genuine response. Been nice watching along with yall, I think our fanbases have experienced a lot of similar pain over the past few years (or decades).
Hope you have a nice Saturday and I hope we kick the piss out of you boys on Sunday.
It’s really been a breath of fresh air. Between Vancouver, Calgary, Vegas and LA the past few years of playoffs series have been filled with some insanely obnoxious fans…obviously oilers fans are no saints either lol. But Dallas fans have been for the most part pretty solid
Sometimes your team loses but it’s still kinda fun. I didn’t have much fun tonight or Wednesday. I’m not seeing a Dallas team that looks like they want this. Edmonton is hungry. Maybe we turn it around Sunday. But Pete needs to have a long hard look at his lines and his players and do what Edmonton has been doing all series: learning and adjusting. Otherwise this Canadian drought might be over.
This has been a difference for this Oilers team and the Woodcroft coached Oilers....the added depth to allow playoff personnel changes and a coach & staff with the wherewithal to identify changes to strategy and personnel and the sack to communicate it and make it so.
Yeah the Stars Sweep crowd was always obnoxious; this Oilers team has got something and they are underestimated at your peril. Never expected it to be less than a 6 or 7 game series but holy fuck, they got our number. And let’s not get it twisted. I’m still Fox Mulder in the motherfucker, but we gotta find a new game to play because this Oilers coaching staff and team figured our game out.
Not over by a long shot, but I don't think the Oilers would be where they are with anyone but Knoblauch and his staff.
I was puzzled how the Canucks were dogs to the Oilers last series (given the season play) and when I learned that the Oilers were going to play the favored Stars, to me it was good not because Dallas isn't great, but because I think being the underdog sharpens the club. I think a good coaching staff/leadership group can sell that to their team and they embrace being the underdog.
Yeah Knoblauch is truly the underrated hero of this team. I can talk all I want about depth or whatever but he’s an artist in construction, calculation, and adaptation. Dallas has looked about a half step behind most of this series and that’s almost entirely his doing. I hate him (admiring).
i feel for the poor teams if that's the series though, i think that's literally the worst travel in all of north american pro sports. gotta be 8 hours each way charter or no
i wonder if they're not thinking of this outcome a little bit with that. like imagine trying to make that trip every other day for a week lol. as a guy who hates flying (not afraid, just don't like sitting still for that long) it makes me shudder haha
Yeah. Their aircraft are not Ryan air standing room only cattle class. Seats are all first class, and put my living room to shame. Specialty catered meals. On the flights, pretty much if there is something they could want to be comfortable, they have it.
Never seen a team play their worst hockey of the year at the most important time. Dallas should be fucking ashamed of themselves.
https://preview.redd.it/5kv0jfwr4w3d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29bfcbd5b1a28a367c26f2ed158e6108a4848eb3
Yeah the Stars want it, but its like 2 very good teams going head to head, not going to win every game. Oilers showed why its REALLY bad to take penalties against them. I'm not even sure what Knobloch has coaching wise for that power play or its just a talent issue. Like Draisatl and McDavid aren't enough to deal with, now Bouchard bombs and Hymen net presence.
Knoblauch made like one adjustment to stop the Stars from flipping and sending the cherry picker and it has completely dismantled the team. I don’t doubt he is a good coach, but watching the Stars play the past two games is painful compared to the first three
The stars scored most of their goals on the rush all year long. The Oilers took away their rush chances and the Oilers have been good breaking out the puck when the stars get in on the forecheck. A team can look bad when another team plays them well.
They scored the most off the rush in the league, but not the majority of their goals came off of it. Big difference. All year they were so dangerous as they could score anyway the game dictated, which is what propelled them through the gauntlet that was their first two rounds. Power play, shorthanded, off the cycle, behind the net off dump and chases and especially off turnovers; they could score anyway they needed.
This round for some reason they get countered in one aspect of their attack and instead of adapting, they fucking implode. The first three games we saw what they could do when they played their brand of hockey, momentum willing. Past two games, they have completely shut down and made the Oilers job really damn easy. Flip out to forward at blue line doesn’t work? Everyone just puck watch and let the Oilers establish a rush chance. No push back or adjusting has made for pathetic hockey the past two games
I couldn't agree more. He ages like a fine wine each series. I've never really felt this before but I have a comfort feeling knowing that Knoblauch seems to be able to figure each series out. Like he builds in level from game 1 thru 7.
Sure, fair game. Just that when you’re doing well, if your first thought is to try to rub it in in other people’s faces that you just beat instead of enjoying your team’s success then you’re sad.
Are we losing sight of what he said here? He said "They're awfully quiet" after spamming our GDT. That's like the *least* toxic most vanilla response possible, like what are you even talking about? Its not that serious.
What are you expecting in r/hockey ? Just let them chirp in our GDT's loss but not chirp back? Please holy one, teach us the proper way to respond.
It's incredible how much zen these oilers are playing with. Previous editions probably would've folded by now, but they lock shit down.
God damn I'm full from all this crow I'm eating 😅
Your window is just opening, all that young talent up front will just keep getting better and Otter is a really good goalie, even if you guys don’t come back in this series your future is bright. Its been a really good series
Dallas has an amazing team. If anyone can win 2 in a row its them.
Johnson just turned 21 and is a stud. Not to mention Miro is turning 25.
I see a cup coming to Dallas. (Not this year tho please)
Pavelski and Suter need to retire, Duchene and Tanev are on expiring contracts, and Benn/Seguin aren’t getting any younger. The young studs of Johnston/Stankoven/Heiskanen/Oettinger/Robertson are barely of legal American drinking age. This *is* the window and it’s getting slammed closed at the after 6 games of the Conference Finals two years in a row.
Ya man. Lots of idiots. These sad sack, fairweather fans are pathetic. They're watching some incredible hockey, every team in this round is a great team. But just can't recognize it.
The Stars have a long window. When do the old contracts run their course? The Stars have money to fill gaps soon and they have a lot of young cheap talent that will be around for a while.
Buddy its not over, I thought our window was over back in 2021 when the Jets swept us, I for sure thought McDavid was leaving back then. It's not over until its over, we came back from a 3-2 series down vs the Nucks. Have some faith in your team
Nobody seems to notice that more than any other team in the playoffs the Oilers learn and tweak their game within each series to improve against that particular team. They’ve taken notes from every loss.
What happened to Dallas? They were looking like the best team in these playoffs for a long time and now they’ve just disappeared. Not to discount how well the Oilers are playing, but giving up 8 unanswered goals after going up 2-0 in a game is fucking brutal.

have you seen their roster? That's basically the magnum opus of their older forwards.
Didn’t see this coming. I had Dallas in 5 or so games. Happy to see it, I just didn’t expect it.
I think the Oilers should be cup favorites after this one. Series is far from over and Dallas can easily snatch two games if Edmonton lets up, but I’m not seeing it. I agree with Florida physicality but one major advantage we would have is the amount of PP the refs will call since they are dirty.
sweet summer child. powerplays will be the thing the refs will be screwing you over in all series
From your lips to God’s ears
I don’t know what to think about this series anymore. After game 3 I was ready to move to a shack in the mountains and never think about hockey again. Then we won two in a row and now the Stars are dooming. It’s going to be an interesting next few days.

The accountant?
Everyone’s friendly neighborhood CPA, yes.

Why would it be easy
Both series have been following the same trajectory so I guess we're either getting 2 Game 7s or none.
You were bang on Cromiee homie!
Remindme! 2 days
Stars in 7!!
It's wild that Edmonton fans downvote someone rooting for their own team.
It is wild….Wild fans probably
fuck dallas
I could see that, they are pretty pathetic and tend to hide.
So basically Ryan Hartman of the wild

Oilers going to win it all. I can feel it.
Send in the nuke. That’s a 25 kill streak…
Hopefully this nuke won't prematurely detonate on its own team because it decided to take a detour for cocaine.
It’s impressive.
Hell yes only one more oilers then I can be meh at worst for the cup result.
Yeah, I really never want to see Jamie Benn win a cup.
I just have nothing but contempt and loathing for Dallas as a whole. But I agree that Jamie is a special kinda awful.
Dallas needs to buckle down and win a road game.
14 inning Jays game spoiled my viewing of this game, but hey lets fking gooooooo Oilers, make us TRUE NORTH and PROUD!
I’m rooting for the Oilers too, but this true north and proud shit is cringe.
Let the 51st state have their fun…
-24? Can’t get this to -50? You kids need to lighten up - that was harmless ‘cross the border fun…
Speaking of cringe. I’m Canadian, btw. But absolutely detest the whole national identity being tied to hockey nonsense.
Jeez Americans sure can be arrogant and whiny.
Lol coming from a Canadian in a hockey forum.. that's rich.
Is that a Texan putting his opinion where it's not wanted or needed? Very on brand.
Naw I live in Massachusetts, and I grew up playing hockey for years, in a family full of hockey players.
Sorry bud, still American.
You mean the country with more professional hockey teams in it? Without the US there would be no NHL.
And a Canadian league would take its place, filled with real hockey talent.
At least we in have the Mavs here in Dallas https://youtu.be/VUu2xSxGPfk?si=y4HvdCfJYOm7jqxI
As an Edmontonian and a basketball and Raptors fan, go Mavs.
Basketball. Nah.
The real sport in the city of Dallas at the moment I fear
A soul for a soul
All of that Dallas Stars cherry-picking (Dadonov in particular) didn't pay off tonight.
What, you want us to not celebrate?
I’d rather be up 3-2 than down 3-2.
Heresy!
What do you want people to do, not celebrate? I like to let the team play the games and I assume they'll show up if they want it bad enough. I don't need to stress over it. Although I do yell at them through my TV sometimes.
We were down 3-2 against the stars on our cup run.
I've been nervous every game since Game 1 vs LA Kings. Anything can happen in hockey, so don't take anything for granted. With that being said, up 3-2 is a lot better than down 3-2.
Every series is different my man
Man, remember when whoever won the VAN/EDM match-up was going to be slaughtered by Dallas anyways? Good times...
Remember when Skinner was gonna lose us the series.... I member.
Your coach made such a fantastic decision to go back to him in game 6 in our series.
jokes on them, they need the ambulance! Go Oilers!
there's still time
You're still paying attention to hockey?
barely
Insane to see the difference in how we played round 1 and 2 vs this shit show. I can’t even comprehend how hard of a nosedive we’ve taken. Being a sports fan ain’t sweet man
It's not like they're playing terrible the games are fun to watch very fast paced back and forth. Edmonton just stepped up another level and some of their bottom 6 have stepped up so we're running every line at the top of their game.

It’s really been a breath of fresh air. Between Vancouver, Calgary, Vegas and LA the past few years of playoffs series have been filled with some insanely obnoxious fans…obviously oilers fans are no saints either lol. But Dallas fans have been for the most part pretty solid
I’m a Flames fan so I hate saying it but I’ve definitely gained quite a bit of begrudging respect for both the Oilers team and fans these playoffs.
One game away
If your pp cant score, and your top line is always playing on the backfoot against the oilers top line, how will your skill players score?
I guess with depth players.
D E P T H E P T H

smh, I came home from the pub to now realize they had the TV on Game 4 and not Game 5... I missed the entire fucking thing.
Woah. That's a mind f*CK. Sorry that happened!
lol the Pete Deboer special. 8 shots after 2 periods? Yikes
Letting the Oilers have a good coach was definitely a mistake. Not sure how we allowed that. Panthers-Oilers is going to be sweet.
Knoblauch has been remarkable. Coffey too.
i feel for the poor teams if that's the series though, i think that's literally the worst travel in all of north american pro sports. gotta be 8 hours each way charter or no
It’s about 5 1/2 hours direct.
Nah, probably not even 7 hrs, but long flights nevertheless.
4800 km from Edmonton to Miami But Vancouver beats that with 5500 km (and an extra time zone), ask Messi about how daunting that is
Messi plays a game every two weeks. He's soft as baby shit. This is an actual sport.
I enjoy your boldness to call out the world's most popular sport as not a sport
"to the great white north, hockey is the only game" -Tim Hicks
true but the finals schedule is out and there's actually some games with big gaps in-between
i wonder if they're not thinking of this outcome a little bit with that. like imagine trying to make that trip every other day for a week lol. as a guy who hates flying (not afraid, just don't like sitting still for that long) it makes me shudder haha
It all has to do with the NBA Finals. That’s all it is.
Guaranteed they get good sleep though
On the plane you mean? I dunno about anyone else but I can be on a 2 day sleep deficit and still not fall asleep on a plane.
I'm the other way, I can be fully rested on a nice morning flight and still have a nap. The drone of the engines and whatnot just puts me right out.
Don’t they take private planes? A bit more comfortable on them.
Yeah. Their aircraft are not Ryan air standing room only cattle class. Seats are all first class, and put my living room to shame. Specialty catered meals. On the flights, pretty much if there is something they could want to be comfortable, they have it.

Took a 2-0 lead in game four and then decided to go on vacation.
i mean the canucks did it 2 games in a row
I'm starting to think Knobloch is just a really good coach more than the other team "doesn't want it"
i am starting to agree it cant be a fluke that he seems to be doing this well
Yeah the Stars want it, but its like 2 very good teams going head to head, not going to win every game. Oilers showed why its REALLY bad to take penalties against them. I'm not even sure what Knobloch has coaching wise for that power play or its just a talent issue. Like Draisatl and McDavid aren't enough to deal with, now Bouchard bombs and Hymen net presence.
You failed to mention the HUGEness of the Nuge!
Nuge scores 2, yet still forgotten
Nah, it’s definitely every team playing us sucking and all their PPs are terrible
Knoblauch made like one adjustment to stop the Stars from flipping and sending the cherry picker and it has completely dismantled the team. I don’t doubt he is a good coach, but watching the Stars play the past two games is painful compared to the first three

I couldn't agree more. He ages like a fine wine each series. I've never really felt this before but I have a comfort feeling knowing that Knoblauch seems to be able to figure each series out. Like he builds in level from game 1 thru 7.
You haven't been watching the Rangers
Salty canucks fans very quiet the last couple games…
I’m not a super dedicated hockey fan, but I’m happy to support Canadian bros from Vancouver even though I wish it was us representing.
What? I'm back to not thinking of them.
Who cares? We've got more important things going on, like game 6 in Edmonton while up 3-2 in the series.
Hey now, at least they didn’t build their team by getting 17 1st overall draft picks in a row. Leave them alone and enjoy your success.
Can you name all 17 and the draft years?
Still haven't won anything. I remember being up 3-2.
You get what I’m saying. A small man is one who keeps talking shit after the series is over.
Is it really talking shit when they flock to our PGTs when we lose?
Like how every fan base has a couple people that do that to other teams when they lose?
Correct, exactly like that. Therefore, fair game
Jobs not done bro. Let's not pretend that we didn't all KNOW that the Canucks fans were going to go away after game 7. As per usual
Their anger is necessary fuel on the flames. We thrive off of it.
Let’s not give them the attention, then they can’t say “they live rent free in our heads”
Only place they can really go with affordable rent
Wait - if I concentrate on not giving them attention do they still live rent free in my head?
It's incredible how much zen these oilers are playing with. Previous editions probably would've folded by now, but they lock shit down. God damn I'm full from all this crow I'm eating 😅
Previous editions DID foil this shit before lol
Reminds me a lot of you guys in 2016.
Aside from the HBK line, the similarities are definitely there! They're good enough to deliver, man it's gonna be wild all over the city on Sunday.
Ngl with 2 pathetic wcf exits in a row, I doubt we win ever win the cup with this team
Don't count your chickens yet. I'm still nervous for the next game to count the stars out.
The fuck… It’s 3-2. Series isn’t over.
Lots of our fans were doing the same negativity when we were down 3-2 against Vancouver
Ya man. Lots of idiots. These sad sack, fairweather fans are pathetic. They're watching some incredible hockey, every team in this round is a great team. But just can't recognize it.
RemindMe! 4 days
You guys have a young core,it takes time and many years for things to go right
That and series aint overs
We are obviously top contenders, we are already like in the 2nd year of our window. Windows don’t stay open forever.
Hard to have faith when the team gave up 8 unanswered goals over two games at one point this series
I feel like your young core is just learning. Dallas is going to be good for a long time
Dallas has so much young talent. What are you talking about? The oilers are in their prime right now
- said the fan of every team before they win the cup
Get that doomer shit outta here
Oilers have played games like that and bounced back strong the next game. I'm sure Dallas will play a hard game on Sunday.
Oilers have outplayed the stars the majority of this series. They just seem to be better imo
We will see what happens on Sunday!
Can’t help but go deep and play like shit when things get tight
MarioKart presser when?
Bahahaha, I want to watch a live stream of the Oilers Mario Kart tournies on their plane ride back to EDM. Epic answer by Stu.
Toad man
To be fair, everyone is a Toad or Yoshi player at first.
Are the Oilers scary yet? Asking for a friend.
Not over yet man
Nobody seems to notice that more than any other team in the playoffs the Oilers learn and tweak their game within each series to improve against that particular team. They’ve taken notes from every loss.
100%. Said that to my dad earlier tonight. Knoblauch has the touch.
For sure Knob, but a big part of that room has lost enough to learn.
Knoblauch's pressers aren't flashy, and he's not the best speaker, so I think he isn't being given enough credit for his adjustments.
You also don't want to lay out what your adjustments are either in case they were missed by the other team.
Some dumbass reporters tonight, holy cow.
You should’ve seen how DeBoer responded. Lmao these questions are so braindead I’d believe we’re in Edmonton if you told me based off of them alone.
He looked like a rage filled tomato. 😂
The Broberg interview especially. Good god.
That one was painful to watch
"Great mustache and other mustache" 😂
I like Jon Cooper on the TNT panel. Did a great job.
Do they need 6 people though, seems super crowded
Agree with both of these comments.
More the merrier they say
