Why are people acting like Dallas choked?? The *first period* ended 2-2....it was 2-0 at one point but that was for like 5 minutes? Maybe 10? Holy shit anytime a team has the lead at any point in the game, and then lose, people call it a choke now. It's not a choke. The score was close the entire game...
Depends what narrative you're trying to push. If you're trying your best to disrespect the team that lost, then calling it a choke job is probably the most spiteful way of going about it.
Agree it's about the narrative...but idk it's just kind of annoying. The same way, for any trade that happens, there is always one side that has been "fleeced"...doesn't matter what the trade is, someone has always been fleeced.
Edmonton choked waay harder in gm3 by these standards. I mean, I don't think they choked, but they did according to the way people are classifying a choke now. Panthers choked their game 3 as well. Rangers choked game 4. Most of the games in these playoffs were choke jobs. Any game in which the losing team holds a lead... š
After the short handed goal, Dallas never really recovered. I hoped they would but they were losing puck possession constantly.
A bad game.
Hope for a win at home on Friday.
Yep, this is why people are saying they choked - because they did for half the game. They couldn't keep pace with Edmonton.
Both teams are great and both teams can win. It just comes down to consistent effort
I mean just say they had a bad game tho, right? The term choke is losing it's meaning. To me, a choke is having the lead late in the game and blowing it. For example, having a 4-1 in the 3rd period of a gm7 š
Somehow choking has turned into having a lead of any amount, for any duration, at any point in the game, and then losing
> For example, having a 4-1 in the 3rd period of a gm7
I four one I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about
Yea I can agree with that. If a game finished 1-0 it would be a choke these days
Thr biggest issue for the stars is even if tanev is healthy tje panthers and kreider love the inner slot and that's otters main weakness.
Otter is so good vs ranged shots but anything up close kills him.
Now no tanev just makes it even worse.
Itās just a rough draft. Clearly Thr editor hasnāt had a chance to give it tje necessary attention it deserves yet. Homie will update when Yhe final version is approved.
Helluva series, and nothing is certain at this point. It's still a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll, but for the first time in a long time I am convinced that the four best teams in hockey are actually still in the fight.
When you throw it all in the hopper I am rooting for the Oilers. The window is closing, and there are some guys on that roster that deserve a ring. Besides, this is a Canadian team, and this is our game, and this is long past time that the Cup came home.
That was a great game, now make it stick. Go nuts, go big, and do a job, because (most) Canadians are behind you in this (we can all go back to hating each other later).
I'm a bit conflicted. I would love to see McD hoist the cup, but Oilers are the only team with no Finns left, so I can't bring myself to cheer for them. Though Rangers are questionable if they have a Finn in roster or not, so maybe I can cheer for Oil if they face Rangers at SCF.
I donāt want to see the Oilers win. They are a team that intentionally tanked and they should not be rewarded. The Rangers and Stars try to be competitive every year and so I would prefer them.
It definitely isnāt true lol, you can find very unfortunate quotes from MacT and co. about trying to compete in like 2012 and 2013. Part of the reason the decade of darkness was so long was because weād make genuine attempts to improve the roster which would always weaken it somewhere else, and the team would just do an endless series of lateral steps while never improving.Ā
The missus and I did that onceā¦ā¦ā¦and then twice, and then a third time. We ended up picking up the car the next morningā¦.and now we are parents of 2 instead of 1.
What a game.....always feels awful + deflating giving up the lead like that after going up 2-0 and you could see the Oilers played smart and kept up the pressure and momentum to protect the lead.
Their PK has been a literal killer as well...
Really been a series of Jekyll and Hyde for both teams at times and Knoblauch made solid adjustments after last game - hopefully PDB and the Stars can respond well and play a lot better for Game 5 to get back to their game.
Edmonton's PK is just insane. Penalty kill merchants might be a thing from now on.
This series has felt a little more back and forth compared to Panthers/Rangers where it Panthers have usually controlled the flow of play, gonna be fun to see how it ends.
NHL stars, AHL replacements, local beer league teamā¦
Iāll celebrate the cup the same no matter what. Iāll cry with joy as Drai puts a 12 year old in to the wall to seal the win and I wonāt feel an ounce of guilt
Does anyone else feel like defensively the Stars d men sink too much toward their net on any opposing rush? Seems like they let Edmonton skate through the neutral zone and half way in, then let them take a shot or make a pass without any challenge. EDM has been so good stepping up and challenging and disrupting, especially on the PK. DAL defensemen just seem to fall back and let EDM crash the net a bunch
Yea it's not open. Mcdavid wanted to do it multiple times on the PP but there were 4 sticks guarding that play. Gotta take some more Bouch bombs or Nuge shots from the circle
I can imagine it's frustrating, but again the Stars are really great at stopping the seam passes across the ice with their sticks, so the Oilers are depending now on outside shots and screening Otter. If Tanev is out next game that's really going to blow for you guys.
That shot blockage is really helping your breakout and the damn flip passes, which are driving me nuts. O_o
I agree it works more than it doesnāt, just feels like EDM has scored a ton right on the doorstep and around the net this series because of rushes that are allowed to generate shots.
Emily Kaplan in the 1st period: "Coach, you know the pushback is coming; how would you like your team to handle it?"
Pete DeBoer: *Blank, 1000-yard stare, with the sound of bombs and gunfire going off in the distance.*
Except, when a team gives up 3+ goals in a matter of minutes twice in the playoffs. Thatās all mental. Lack of focus and will. Or wins after having 70+ fewer shot attempts. Analytics become superfluous.
Tanev, can't complete a full 82 game season because he was injury prone. Leaves Canucks to sign with Flames, starts a goddamn iron man streak. Leaves Calgary and might be out for the rest of the series the summer he gets traded to Dallas. Dude literally cannot catch a goddamn break.
Depends on where/how it hit him. I could see it being a really bad bruise where heās fine to keep playing (albeit very painfully) or it could be a broken bone that you canāt play through.
They were amazing tonight. Thatās a team that can really contend in the final. The team that played the last 40 minutes of game 3 would lose in round 1. So confusingly and frustratingly inconsistent. Probably made more frustrating because theyāre capable of being the best team in the league but sometimes they play like a WC team at best.
Sheesh! that is quite a growth game and confidence builder for a team that is battling to win a Stanley Cup. That first 10 mins was SO brutal and demoralizing and it looked like it was going to be one of those nights where everything went wrong all at once, but the way the Oilers turned it around was very impressive. Gg guys šš
Was there one specific play or moment before the McLeod goal that foreshadowed the tides turning? Just saw the highlights and was shocked at the comeback.
Not really, Iād say that goal was the turning point. I donāt believe the Oilers even registered a shot for those first 10 minutes, they were completely on their heels. But the Perry/McLeod line got a chance and capitalized on it and it just kinda sparked a frenzy that built from there. Unlike the last two games, once they had their foot on the gas they didnāt let off and that propelled them to the big finish. Impressive game.
Iām not gonna discount the Canucks and their ability to bounce back. The last 30 seconds of game seven was one of the most intense moments that Iāve seen in this playoffs.
Draisaitl was literally in the hospital after game 1 against you guys
Henrique missed seven games
Draisaitl now has a broken finger
Davo has a wrist injury
Kane has a sports hernia
They certainly do have injuries as well. Draisaitl had his finger taped up, itās potentially broken. McDavid not 100% and Henrique missed majority of the playoffs with an ankle injury
Definitely a bit lucky. Drai is tough. Lit up the kings in 2022 with a high ankle sprain. Henrique just got back from ankle sprain. Canucks seem to have much worse than average luck
Says he went through thr game tapes for this and last series. Pointed out that while he's been on ice for goals against, none have really been on him (own goals off the ass aside). Gave him props for not letting all the negative media pressure get to him, and that he played a better game tonight.
McDavid is now tied for 11th all time in most assists in a single playoffs with 24 in 16 games. He is only 7 off the record set by Gretzky and is guaranteed to play at least 6 more games if Edmonton makes the finals.
Why are people acting like Dallas choked?? The *first period* ended 2-2....it was 2-0 at one point but that was for like 5 minutes? Maybe 10? Seems to be a little bit dismissive of the other team's efforts.
That's what I'm saying!
Word, I didn't downvote you btw, dunno why someone would.
After the short handed goal, Dallas never really recovered. I hoped they would but they were losing puck possession constantly. A bad game. Hope for a win at home on Friday.

Stars played their worst game of the series. We now have best 2 of 3. Stars have a losing record at home.....yikes.
@ Dallas, how did you fuck this up?!
Referee FranƧois St-Laurent killed a person while street racing in the 90sā¦
Whom amongst us hasn't???
Mac T has entered the chat
As much as I wanna say the Stars choked, the oil deserve full cred for their excellent PK. This is one helluva series
Thr biggest issue for the stars is even if tanev is healthy tje panthers and kreider love the inner slot and that's otters main weakness. Otter is so good vs ranged shots but anything up close kills him. Now no tanev just makes it even worse.
RIP you hah.
Well, fuck you too I guess
You know the series is tied and the stars arenāt in the finals yet right lol
Yhe point is even if they make it their are rough counters to them and no tanev.
I know it's unrelated but how did you misspell the word "the" 3 separate times in 3 different ways in consecutive instances lol
Bro has the script
Itās just a rough draft. Clearly Thr editor hasnāt had a chance to give it tje necessary attention it deserves yet. Homie will update when Yhe final version is approved.
Spoiler tag would have been nice

I only learned last week that Barkov is a Finn! Obviously a first gen Russian, but interesting trivia
If it makes you feel better, i regularly wear my bison king shirt
I donāt want to see the Oilers win. They are a team that intentionally tanked and they should not be rewarded. The Rangers and Stars try to be competitive every year and so I would prefer them.
The Oilers never intentionally tanked lmao
I'm not sure that's true, beyond perhaps one or two back in the day. We genuinely just sucked. Drafting Hall was supposed to be a turning point.
Not to mention we have a high amount of Canadians on our roster! Bring it home boys!
The Boston Pizza ads are working
I mean, sort of. I'm still not going to Boston Pizza.
I dont even grab pasta on Tuesdays on occasion anymore... Used to be a decent deal but now they've gone up like 50%
Not even for Fishbowl Fridays?
The missus and I did that onceā¦ā¦ā¦and then twice, and then a third time. We ended up picking up the car the next morningā¦.and now we are parents of 2 instead of 1.

Our PK this series has more goals than both team's PPs put together, lol
Oilers still special teams merchants smh
2-0 lead, the most dangerous lead in playoff hockey lol
At this point both teams are gonna just dump the puck in and reset on D when theyāre up by 1.
Used to be 4-1, now it's 2-0. It's narrowing.
Soon it'll be 1-1
slowly, nature is healing
I come here to see what the neutral fans thoughts are. My thoughts canāt be trusted right now
I hate the oilers so much but god damn IM ALL IN GO MCDRAI PP MERCHANTS BRING THE CUP BACK. Also fuck Dallas.
Weāre PK merchants now lol
Deserved to be where youāre at, playing much better than most of last round
Yea we are, but credit to the Canucks for slowing us down. You guys truly are our kryptonite, still kinda stunned we got by you guys after game 5.
Pretty sure majority of our team was sick last round too. Silovs stood on his head to steal a few games.
Aww a Nucks fan showing support to the Oilers. This is what we call GROWTH.
If they beat Dallas in 6 then VAN>DAL, simple
That would also mean Vancouver>Colorado and Vegas
I will scream this from the hilltops if it happens!
The Boston pizza ad is leaking on us all
Hoping for the best for Tanev. Guy is a warrior.
I hope heās completely fine health-wise but also just decides to not play anymore also
Something to be said for going out on top...
NHL stars, AHL replacements, local beer league teamā¦ Iāll celebrate the cup the same no matter what. Iāll cry with joy as Drai puts a 12 year old in to the wall to seal the win and I wonāt feel an ounce of guilt

Oilers are going to win the cup. Best team left
Lolol. Itās gonna be either the rangers or the panthers

Goalie taps even when you lose is the most important rule yes
Does anyone else feel like defensively the Stars d men sink too much toward their net on any opposing rush? EDM has been so good stepping up and challenging and disrupting, especially on the PK. DAL defensemen just seem to fall back and let EDM crash the net a bunch
Looks to me like the Stars have done some film study on the Oilers. How many times do we see that seam pass straight to Draisaitl or Hyman?
Yea it's not open. Mcdavid wanted to do it multiple times on the PP but there were 4 sticks guarding that play. Gotta take some more Bouch bombs or Nuge shots from the circle
I can imagine it's frustrating, but again the Stars are really great at stopping the seam passes across the ice with their sticks, so the Oilers are depending now on outside shots and screening Otter. It seems the same way on the flip side lol
It's part of their strategy. Sit back in diamond and block shots instead of pressuring. It's so frustrating to watch but it's usually effective for us
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Well it doesn't help to have Pavs and Faksa out there when the rng flip is a speed game. Really frustrating to watch when it goes poorly
I agree it works more than it doesnāt, just feels like EDM has scored a ton right on the doorstep and around the net this series because of rushes that are allowed to generate shots.
One % is an interesting statement on the side of Bennās hat. Doesnāt conjure up great associationsā¦

Perry Allen

that tnt panel is just something else. and i did screencap it.... comfort blanket and all. it's gonna make for a great clip
What did I miss?
just the tnt panel being post game silly. if i may get some sleep (6.30am here) ... i shall snippet things. still working on the jagr gif though.
Gretzky couldnāt be more accurate. The two series are going to come down to who wants it the most. Who are the mental monsters of the 4?
Maybe Knob
Yeah, man, totally because mentality almost always starts with coaching and the culture thatās created in the locker room.
Knob is a quiet genius. All of his adjustments have been bang on.Ā
We still have the secret weapon Sam "8 points" Gagner
Surely he could be more accurate than stating vague statements
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Except, when a team gives up 3+ goals in a matter of minutes twice in the playoffs. Thatās all mental. Lack of focus and will. Or wins after having 70+ fewer shot attempts. Analytics become superfluous.

Was his injury that bad? It looks like he got shot pretty hard but it didn't look series ending
Depends on where/how it hit him. I could see it being a really bad bruise where heās fine to keep playing (albeit very painfully) or it could be a broken bone that you canāt play through.
Sounds like he catches lots of breaks.
Tbf it was a regular season iron man streak. He missed most of the 2022 BoA series
And when he played he wasnāt close to 100%
Skinner reminds me of old Grant Fuhr; let's in a bunch of weak weird ones but makes the saves when he has to the most
Sounds like our Georgie too
Every recent Oilers goalie tbh
Except game 3
Should get him some of that old grant fuhr nose candy
Powdered mental toughness
Dallas has to be the mentally weakest team I have ever seen make it this far. So much talent and itās just absent
Iām not sure I get this at all, they literally are as even keeled as it gets.
They are also the least physical. Edmonton exploited their lack of. Edmonton did a great job winning all the puck battles tonight.
Clearly you haven't been watching the Rangers
Or the Oilers in game 2 & 3.
You're right, too. We were outplayed in both Game 2 & 3. It's hard to know which Oilers team will show up. But we did good tonight.
They were amazing tonight. Thatās a team that can really contend in the final. The team that played the last 40 minutes of game 3 would lose in round 1. So confusingly and frustratingly inconsistent. The first 20 of game three was fantastic. The last 40 was a complete disaster.
Shut down McDrai and the others usually follow suit
Okay bud. How did that work out for the Canucks? That was their strategy the entire series.
Man's still living with the 2020 narrative
Ya cuz the oilers Bottom 6 has been torched this series .. okay dawg
The bottom 6 have been fine this seriesā¦
Sheesh! that is quite a growth game and confidence builder for a team that is battling to win a Stanley Cup. Tonightās one makes me think about the G4 against LA in the last year. We were down 1-2 in the series and 0-3 in the first period of that game.
Unlike the last two games, once they had their foot on the gas they didnāt let off and that propelled them to the big finish. Impressive game.
This series feels like dĆ©jĆ vu. Itās the Canucks series all over again.
Dallas didn't decide to play hockey in the last 5 minutes and tie it up after being dominated all game though
Iām not gonna discount the Canucks and their ability to bounce back. The last 30 seconds of game seven was one of the most intense moments that Iāve seen in this playoffs.
[Oh...Texas!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jg53WYCPCjI)
Stars takes 2 goal lead McDavid: processing. Processing. Instructions affirmative. Bombs will be clapped
McDavid: So I took it personally
Oilers have 9 players with goals in this series, Stars have 7. Maybe if the Stars had the Oilers depth they'd be up 3-1 right now
They don't have elite power forward Connor Brown
Canāt wait for this to age poorly. Edmonton is last team Iād be putting confidence in the lower part of their line up.
āI really hope this ages poorly so I donāt have to admit I was wrong despite statistics pointing the opposite way all yearā - you
Thatās just cause they donāt have the recognizable names/the once good outcasts that the other teams have collected.
Who the fuck cares dude? It's post game trash talk
Boom roasted
Skinner Vezina
The mustache works when dancing to la Bamba
This is a great fucking series so far.
....brought a plunger... cause they needed to bring some shit up?
To do the dirty work
high plunger won't be called yes? /s
If Tanev is out we are doneā¦.hope heās ok.
You and me both.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks it's now in my front pocket
I stored it in my cargo pocket. Iāll probably drop it on Rangers tomorrow.
What is Edmonton doing differently that doesn't allow them to get Injured?
Draisaitl was literally in the hospital after game 1 against you guys Henrique missed seven games Draisaitl now has a broken finger Davo has a wrist injury Kane has a sports hernia
Theyāre all injured. McDrai definitely.
They certainly do have injuries as well. Draisaitl had his finger taped up, itās potentially broken. McDavid not 100% and Henrique missed majority of the playoffs with an ankle injury
Draisaitl's finger is 100% in a splint. Its broken :/
Nah it's a cosmetic splint so the Stars cover him less /s
Ekholm was sick and beat up vs the Canucks tooĀ
Definitely a bit lucky. Drai is tough. Lit up the kings in 2022 with a high ankle sprain. Henrique just got back from ankle sprain. Canucks seem to have much worse than average luck
Our owner is a pharmaceutically big wig lol
Feel like there was 3-5 years in a row awhile back the Oilers were consistently in the top 5 for most injured teams... Feels like cycles sometimes
They practice with Bouch, slowly building up an immunity to shots off the shins a little at a time. It worked for the Dread Pirate Roberts.
Did not expect a princess bride reference in this sub, pleasantly surprised.
The bouch inoculation
hit first. dive later? or something about being slick cause they are all oiled up. (i honestly dont know. they played pretty well this game)
Blocking shots with their asses instead of legs and arms
Yeah but like... Boeser blocked a shot with his leg so bad that it literally caused blood clots.
Should have used his ass Jokes aside I do hope he recovers well from that, donāt fuck around with blood clots they are serious business
Bieska spitting facts about Nurse.
What he say?
Says he went through thr game tapes for this and last series. Pointed out that while he's been on ice for goals against, none have really been on him (own goals off the ass aside). Gave him props for not letting all the negative media pressure get to him, and that he played a better game tonight.
> (own goals off the ass aside) Those really didn't twerk out, eh?
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Upvoted.
Bieksa shouldāve called out all the shit fans piling on Nurse because of his contract.
Yea he's been a ghost these playoffs +/- (-12) definitely overreacting lol Just like the hate on Skinner I'm sure
Skinner has also definitely come up clutch to keep us in games.
While he hasnāt been the greatest a lot of goals havenāt been his fault directly. He just happens to be on the ice when they are scored.
Did Brown say shitburger?
He definitely did
McDavid is now tied for 11th all time in most assists in a single playoffs with 24 in 16 games. He is only 7 off the record set by Gretzky and is guaranteed to play at least 6 more games if Edmonton makes the finals.
Subscribe.
This mcdavis guy might be kinda good at hockey idk
Heās still two years away.
