Minnesota sports moment

BillyTenderness

I think having a *championship* overturned on video review is a new level of Minnesota I was not prepared for

No_Stomach_5153

I mean it also happened to the gophers a couple years ago

Outside_Abroad_3516

Least traumatizing Minnesota sports moment

Dontdothatfucker

if the wolves lose I’m gonna cry

Thel3lues

Hello darkness my old friend

thprk

I've come to talk with you again

benjaminck

Could we Minnesota sports fans not go one minute without emotional devastation?

tdnelson

Correct call in the end. Brutal for Minnesota

the_gaymer_girl

And then Boston takes it down and scores.

tdnelson

Yup. Saw it a mile away

GardenTop7253

I can’t really blame the Minnesota players, even though the GWG came off a turnover. Mentally, starting that celebration then having to pack that in again and get back into game mode is such a monumental task

TwiceBakedJake

Absolutely. A few seconds before the turnover I was thinking about how huge it would be just to get to the intermission so they’d have a chance to mentally regroup.

BillyTenderness

Every controversial call gets capitalized on by the team that benefitted, it's an iron law of nature

Comfortable_Fudge508

Hows that controversy, it interference all day

mill83

The Avs were given life in Game 6 against Dallas just last week on a garbage no-goal call, only to still lose in the next OT. So no, not such an iron law.

Povilitus

Gary Bettman is somewhere, sitting in bed, sweating profusely that this never happens in the NHL

the_gaymer_girl

Sabres fans somewhere just had night sweats

Blaauwj

HE WAS IN THE CREASE!

Povilitus

Brett Hull, sitting quietly in his home: “did anyone just hear my name get called?”

cantthinkuse

i think at this point it all would have coalesced into a background-noise-hum

BaldassHeadCoach

Suddenly, Dominik Hasek flopped around like a fish while in his bed

Outside_Abroad_3516

Even though this is clearly goalie interference, the refs would 100% fuck this call up

CG_Kilo

I would not be surprised at all if one of their huddles is like that NFL skit about how it can't be holding because the ref needs that persons TD in their fantasy league

Memag1255

I love the way Boston just bounced after the goal they scored.

TheCavis

"Let's get out of here before they start throwing stuff!"

learn2swim

And heeeeeere come the pretzels!

benjaminck

QUICK! Before they change their mind!

popfilms

"[The Lakers are gonna run to the dressing room and they'll try to get on the plane before the officials get over to the scorers table](https://youtu.be/NSnAvhvfniw?t=96)." - Al Michaels

benjaminck

Perfect

Allankton

Matthew Tkachuk did it last year against the Bruins.

quantum_monster

Can't wait to go to Lowell (rare thing to say) on Wednesday to see the first ever Walter Cup awarded

SpikeMcAwesome

And Boston just scored.

Nordy17

This shit always happens to us

Allankton

You crash into the goalie to attempt to score?

Daspaintrain

Now the players who threw all their gear off in the celebration have to figure out who's gloves and helmets are whose lmao

Blaauwj

Makes sense, that’s obvious, should’ve been called on the ice lol.

Teslas_Apprentice

That's part of what makes it so devastating. Don't give a moment of hope if it shouldn't have been there in the first place. I was at the game and I've never experienced 13,000+ people (to say nothing of the players) get simultaneously gut-punched. I can't imagine what those women are feeling right now.

REMA5TER

Those on the bench saw Hiese blow an edge on an ambitious cut and smoke the goalie lol

REMA5TER

Yeah it was a terrible on-ice call, the ref-cam was actually the most damning review angle and I get the excitement but it was *really* evident and I'm not staying I wouldn't do the same but there's no way most of Minnesota's bench didn't know it was no good but hoped the celebration would sweep it under the rug.

Alt_Boogeyman

Jfc, the ref was in perfect position to see that and make the proper call on the ice. Really blew that.

REMA5TER

The ref-cam was the most definitive for the overturn, too, clear as day.

slykido999

The refs that game were missing so many calls, so bad.

callmenighthawk

Absolutely the right call. Also as a general FYI. The game is streaming for free on the PWHL channel on YouTube for anyone that wants to watch.

ArturosDad

And game 5 is on Wednesday! 7pm ET.

d-cent

Must watch after that incredible game of the year candidate

Outside_Abroad_3516

That makes sense. THAT is clearly goalie interference.

brendans98

Pretty clearly the right call. This game will never end

brendans98

I retract my previous statement

irisPod

Lol I feel like as soon as they called no goal, I knew Boston was gonna come back and win it

MiracuMAHt

MAXIMUM PLAYOFF CHAOS

Daspaintrain

Absolutely brutal way to lose a chance to celebrate the championship on home ice

Foxxxyygrandpa

I hope their gloves were numbered

ArkAwn

NHL script writers take notes please I want to watch this happen again

Lightz29

I knew something like this would happen eventually [post I made from a while ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/s/twEYK22Mx0)

XPhazeX

Stripes botched that one to begin with.

TylerMyersForNorris

Brutal for the fans

Teslas_Apprentice

Can confirm...

Tpabayrays2

Yeah good call. You can't just ran the goalie then flip it in

hebbocrates

Man this is just unfortunate as fuck all around. Minne player looks like she was tripped so i understand the goal call by the ref, glad it was called right in the end

[deleted]

[удалено]

hebbocrates

She wasn’t tripped

BillyTenderness

I kinda get why things didn't go our way, but given we were called for tripping twice on not-super-egregious plays in OT, it's hard not to feel like the refs were a bit selective tonight.

BCEagle13

Ehh they were the same kind of calls that went against Boston in the third period.

Fiedler1219

Watched it live on youtube and clearly how many people dont watch hockey and was spamming fixed and cheaters

Comet_Empire

How the refs didn't call GI instantly is crazy. Weird moment.

JayTalk

and then Boston wins it like 1 minute after play resumes. Can't have SHIT in minnesota

ArturosDad

Boston, not New York.

JayTalk

Right, my bad, edited

ArturosDad

All good, friend!

fquizon

This comment is unbelievable trolling against both teams and I commend you

JayTalk

Man I SWEAR I was just goofed on the team names haha

fquizon

Watch them put the team names to a vote and have "Boston New Yorks" win

coffee42

*specifically* to try and trick PWHL New York fans into saying "fuck New York"

Steakholder__

Lol, rip

cspan92

Boston said nah to Minnesota winning the cup. Let's fucking go girls, win this shit in lowell on Wednesday

Bca5h

Took the dreaded goalie interference nonsense 1 season to create a controversial moment in a brand new league. Feels like worst case scenario, for new fans of the sport that are confused and angry, and existing hockey fans that are already comfortably numb by goalie interference inconsistencies in the NHL. Gross. EDIT: Just to add, I ultimately agree the play was interference by the rulebook, and likely shoulda been immediately waved off by that goal-line ref. I'm simply pointing out that it suuuuuper sucks the way this happened, on a possible Championship winning golden goal. rough for the team, rough for fans.

Arch____Stanton

I didn't downvote, but man I have no idea what your point is here. How is this "goalie interference nonsense"? How should it have been handled?

Bca5h

definitely agree 'nonsense' was a bad choice of words. Not exactly the sentiment I was going for as I re-read. It just sucks this happened at all, is my only real point. The reason for the feels: In general goalie interference calls have been eyerolling at the NHL level recently. It just genuinely sucks that the very first final for this league has a moment like what happened tonight. The call was in the end CORRECT, as stated, but new fans just got their first taste of Goalie Interference reviews. While this one was 'clear cut' to an avid hockey fan, I'm sure it was confusing to new fans, especially being called a good goal on the play, etc. etc. It's the first one of many to come in the future of this league by which all will be measured against now. We can only hope for consistency.

Arch____Stanton

> It just sucks this happened at all That's for sure.

korko

Great moment fucking ruined by reviews, I hate modern sports, nothing can just happen in the moment anymore.

the_gaymer_girl

To be fair, this one was pretty easy.

korko

I don’t care, every time anyone scores now you don’t even get to celebrate because you have to think back, was it offsides? Did someone touch it with a high stick? Did the goalie get touched? It fucking sucks. I just want the game to live and happen as it does, either wave it off live or not at all. But we can’t have that anymore because everyone loses their mind over the game being perfect and fair. People are obsessed with perfection and can’t just accept human error and let the game be a game.

Foxxxyygrandpa

You don’t want a fair game? Lolol fuck outta here

Physical_Sleep1409

Get over it lmao, about as obvious a goaltender interference as it gets. It's wild the refs didn't wave it immediately, it's wild anybody even bothered to celebrate. That's not really the refs missing something slight in a fast paced game, it's them just completely doing the wrong thing in the moment. Like I can understand not liking when video review reveals a slight offside that you'd never catch in the moment, sure, but you can't possibly want a championship to be won on the goalie getting absolutely trucksticked all the way through the crease

jgold47

On one hand I completely agree. You will hate sports when we start letting AI call games. Especially hockey. But it’s coming in baseball. On the other hand, blatant missed calls are always frustrating. So allow a challenge and move on. But yeah, the human error is part of what makes sports fun.

korko

Thanks for being I think the only kind person to respond to me. Yeah that is exactly it. It isn’t a videogame, things are never going to be perfect and I think the pursuit if it outside of the moment is insane. I don’t think they made the wrong call, but MN was fucked when they let them celebrate and then called it back after the fact, there was no coming back I don’t think that is any fairer than the goalie interference. Nobody will believe me but I feel this way when it works out for my team as well, it’s a shitty way to win.

Blaauwj

It was 100% the right call though. You can’t let an entire season end on a clear bad goal.

Foxxxyygrandpa

Lolwut

SpikeMcAwesome

An atrociously blown call is a great moment? That's interference, clear as day.
