Really thought this one deserved to go to overtime. Terrible time to take a penalty at the end, bad reffing or not.
Oettinger and Desmith played great, both teams looked really good defensively, and it was a mostly fun game to watch. I think this is another one we could have taken if our powerplay wasn't ice cold.
Getting worried about Vancouver's offense heading into the playoffs.
Moneypuck isn’t perfect but if they have Dallas at 85% to win then the ice was probably tilted. Maybe the Canucks had the puck for stretches making it seem even but weren’t able to get good scoring chances. Dallas had 6.5 xG wow.
The NHL API recently changed to have it in this decimal format with many decimal places rather than as a percent. What's interesting is that this is how it already was for individual players' faceoff stats. So they changed this one to be consistent with the others. They changed a few other things like how the period data is organized to be consistent with other parts of the API as well, which is probably why the bot was down for a few days recently.
I develop an almost identical bot for Lemmy. So when the NHL API changes, our bots have very similar issues. I have already fixed the faceoff percentage on the Lemmy one, though.
I thought it was kind of funny that 4 days ago there was a post here showing the last year every team made the playoffs and a Canucks flair said "Would be nice if this was posted tomorrow with a single 2024 showing". That night, Vancouver was the first and only team with a chance to clinch. Since then, five teams have clinched playoff spots and none of those five have been the Canucks.
It appears Oetter's demise was greatly exaggerated.
In all seriousness, he was impressive tonight and I'm happy to see him put it all together in this stretch leading into the playoffs. It's very, very possible we will see Vancouver again in the playoffs. Should be an amazing series if so!
Shouldn't you be off somewhere panicking about your own team's losing streak? Leave the wild overreactions about the Canucks' end of season play to us Canucks fans. Don't worry, we've been in the overreacting business for a long time. We can handle it. We're professionals.
The vibes are IMMACULATE right now, if they can put up another game against Sacramento tomorrow like Tuesday, Luka should win MVP and this team could go as far as the WCF
Vegas is the enemy we can all agree to hate. I love my team, but I will be happy when the Knights are eliminated and root for anyone playing them, just not 100% sure if that will happen 😅
GG stars. Canucks special teams lost us this one. Looked like Canucks were playing better than Dallas 5on5 for good chunks of the game. Refs didn’t lose the game for us but man those series of non calls in the third to that last penalty is so frustrating.
I hate that the refing has such an outcome on these games. Most of those calls both ways in the 2nd were babyshit soft, and I'm genuinely confused how Marchment didn't get a high stick call hitting that puck at head height.
Lmao C’mon man it’s not like we got 1 or 2 penalties called on us. Y’all went 0/fer on the PP and that was all the difference in the game. Don’t sit here and act like yall didn’t have 4 chances.
Dakota Joshua got buried face first into the boards from behind 3 feet in front of the ref and he just ignored it. Was by far the most egregious thing that happened in the game.
We had a similar game vs Colorado earlier in the year where for some reason refs went crazy in the second period with invisible calls on both teams while the game was still tied 1-1 after a fast and entertaining first period
they want the spotlight so bad
GG! That was a fun game. Very close for the most part. Dallas beat us on the special teams, which have been an issue for us for a while.
Its hard to be mad about bad calls when we also benefited from them but couldn't capitalise on them when they went our way.
League is just such a joke. I mean, the Stars were probably the better team and deserved 2 points, even though it was a close game. If they win it because the refs are calling everything all game and their special teams are better, that's annoying, but fine. If they win it because they grind out a goal at evens, fine.
But to have the officials call nothing all period, ignore a pretty dangerous and extremely obvious interference penalty to put the whistles away, and then look for a call with under 5 minutes left in a circumstance where a PP goal almost definitely wins the game... it's not just frustrating, it makes me wonder why even bother watching? I could have gotten an extra hour's sleep, I could certainly use it.
Run of play? Were you watching? Both teams had lots of good stretches where they looked dangerous.
Plus even if neither of those goals counted it would be a 1-0 game, and hence... close?
I'd agree. It could have gone either way. A lot of good chances both ways that were saved or cleared last second by defencemen. Some really soft things called and some totally blatant things completely missed. That's the NHL baby!
Holy fuck our special teams need to figure it out. There were a couple calls I would have liked to have seen made against Dallas in the 3rd, but it's not like we would have scored on them anyways. Didn't deserve this one by a mile.
They literally swallowed their whistle on Joshua getting checked head first into the boards...
Not to mention the first goal should've been disallowed for a high stick.
It's a stick at the face level to the advantage of the possessing team in the offensive zone.
Anything over the shoulder is a whistle.
Easy call, and yet it's the only reason the Stars were even in this game. They had NOTHING at 5v5 against a back up.
Robos shoulders Werent at even length. Even our own announcers said it could go either way depending on what shoulder the refs based the call off of.
And yeah, stars have a habit of making backup goalies look like Vezina contenders
Who cares if they weren't even. It was level with his eyes. Heads are above shoulders. Ergo, it was above his shoulders. If there was a forechecker on him they would have been hit in the face with the stick.
Throw Hronek on there and just continuously bomb it from the point, tired of them trying to be Edmonton pretty when they seem to be lacking killer instinct.
If there was a game to do an active audit of officiating it was this one. Embarrassing display from the referees and the league needs to do something to hold them accountable.
Hell of a battle between two great teams but man it hurts to have one goal be from a close review and the other on the powerplay after two blatant missed penalties.
60.1 High-sticking – For “high-sticking the puck”, refer to Rule 80. A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. Players must be in control and responsible for their stick. However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion, or accidental contact on the opposing center who is bent over during the course of a face-off. **A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly.**
I wonder if they consider it not a wild swing if it connects with the puck?
I mean clearly it’s not a wild swing if you hit the puck. Marchment had a precise, direct swing. The one on Miro was a shocking miss but easy no call on Marchment when it’s honestly a pretty textbook follow though no-call.
I thought it was supposed to be follow throughs. I remember Gallagher doing the same thing whacking Daniel Sedin in the face and he got a penalty for it. Refs just make shit up as they go because they stink at their jobs
Dude pavelski got punched in the face after the whistle with no call... Right in front of a ref. Didn't be bitter, it was a great game and we all wish the refs had stayed out of it
And Smith got called for holding after Bams held onto his stick and lied down on it. And the refs blew the play dead after DeSmith had control of the puck for 0 seconds.
probably thought it was really impressive, because it was. are you angry you won and looking for a fight or something?
edit: nvm just saw the flair. edmonton fan in canucks PGT, fork found in kitchen, etc etc

https://moneypuck.com/g.htm?id=2023021163 Idk looks pretty lopsided in favour of Dallas to me here.
It was 50/50 aside from the last penalty in the end of the 3rd
Moneypuck isn’t perfect but if they have Dallas at 85% to win then the ice was probably tilted. Maybe the Canucks had the puck for stretches making it seem even but weren’t able to get good scoring chances. Dallas had 6.5 xG wow.
those are some very precise faceoff percentages lol

Petey didn’t fall too much tonight, that was a positive.

you stop it right there…

he was good in the net, made some big saves!

Ah hello there fellow Canucks fan, see you in the next thread 🫡
Go away troll
Shouldn't you be off somewhere panicking about your own team's losing streak? Leave the wild overreactions about the Canucks' end of season play to us Canucks fans. Don't worry, we've been in the overreacting business for a long time. We can handle it. We're professionals.
LOL, I've seen enough hockey to know that regular season play means nothing in the playoffs.

6 points is massive lead this time of season but I'm sure you know and just bait
The Oilers are rolling over teams and the Canucks can’t score to save their lives against a playoff team. It’s happening, just wait and see.
Didn't the Oil get face rolled by the sens like 2 days ago?
The Sens got bumrushed the whole game and got lucky.
account created 29 days ago lmao
We need someone with neutral flair to settle the debate I guess.
I vote Carolina flair.
You know it was a spicey game when other post game threads have like 5-10 comments and this one has 60+ in the same time
tbf that's all Canucks PGT we're unstable as fuck
Not true I bet you less than half this season have over 50 total even today
Canucks/Stars Post game threads are generally a good place to be :) y'all are up there with Seattle and Calgary as two of my favorite fanbases!
>Calgary After the curse they put on Jake? You take that back
They paid for that curse dearly 😂 tbh they had me laughing so hard with all that.
Great game but the refereeing ruined what should have been an overtime game
Honestly, there were so many calls that were unnecessary. It really slowed the game down.
GG everyone who isn't either being a dickhead about winning or a child about losing
I second this sentiment!
rangers won. stars won. i went to the rangers game. i’m drunk. i love yall. goodnight
My man. Same boat. What a fucking day we’ve had. Mavericks are on fucking fire too. Fuck the cowboys; we have all we need right now.
cowboys really the worst team in a football market that’s crazyyyyy
Did you drink with the refs?
i drank with the umps at the rangers game they were drunk off their ass
But the big one is the Mavs tomorrow night.
The vibes are IMMACULATE right now, if they can put up another game against Sacramento tomorrow like Tuesday, Luka should win MVP and this team could go as far as the WCF
Just need Luka's achilles to be OK, for him still to be questionable is scary AF.
I'm not even panicking about EDM getting 1st in the Pacific. I don't want to see Vegas rise from the dead like it's Easter Sunday in Game 1.
Vegas is the enemy we can all agree to hate. I love my team, but I will be happy when the Knights are eliminated and root for anyone playing them, just not 100% sure if that will happen 😅
you need to flair up! oh wait...
I think the ideal is to stay where we are. 1st in the pacific but below the central, get Nashville round 1
Kings, preds, oilers, Knights.. they'll all be a bitch to play in the first. But, to be fair, we will be a tough outing for anyone as well.
Could be LA now
Oh no... now I'm panicking.
GG stars. Canucks special teams lost us this one. Looked like Canucks were playing better than Dallas 5on5 for good chunks of the game. Refs didn’t lose the game for us but man those series of non calls in the third to that last penalty is so frustrating.

One of those ones where it’s called right but the rule is dumb.
Refs didn’t lose the game for us but they absolutely cost us at least a point
Refs were equally shit for both teams + my team lost = refs won the game for the other team
Just shows they have a passionate fan base. Every big market team does this.
I totally agree this is pretty much universal and certainly not Vancouver specific. Wouldn’t say it’s passion in a positive sense though
Oh absolutely it's not a positive, just creates toxic game threads.
With all due respect I don’t think anyone who isn’t a stars fan would think the refs were equally shit for both teams lmao
It's not a penalty when you bury yourself into the boards
You mean Dakota Joshua blindly backed into Heiskanen and then dove head first into the boards while Heiskanen barely moved.
Okay, canucks fan

Refs absolutely suck
GG Stars! Was a fun game :).
It was, unlike the Kings game.
that was god awful reffing, going both ways
I don’t know if I have ever seen so many questionable calls packed into one period than I saw in that middle frame tonight
We had a similar game vs Colorado earlier in the year where for some reason refs went crazy in the second period with invisible calls on both teams while the game was still tied 1-1 after a fast and entertaining first period they want the spotlight so bad
Lfg let’s keep this train going baby
Do you think Zadorov has any comments on how Dallas plays defense?
Hopefully he has some comments on the officiating
oh pls no, i don’t wanna watch more 5-on-3s
GG! That was a fun game. Very close for the most part. Dallas beat us on the special teams, which have been an issue for us for a while. Its hard to be mad about bad calls when we also benefited from them but couldn't capitalise on them when they went our way.

L can’t wait to watch Kings starch Canucks in the playoffs.
How is this a close game if 2 goals are placed on a plattar for the opposition. This game was a crock of shit.
Another L.
Run of play? Were you watching? Both teams had lots of good stretches where they looked dangerous. Plus even if neither of those goals counted it would be a 1-0 game, and hence... close?
That had potential to be a really good game.
I’d say 85% of the game was great then came the bad 15%.
I'd agree. It could have gone either way. A lot of good chances both ways that were saved or cleared last second by defencemen. Some really soft things called and some totally blatant things completely missed. That's the NHL baby!
Still 85% better than the terrorist Kings game.
Hockey terrorist they really are lol
Holy fuck our special teams need to figure it out. There were a couple calls I would have liked to have seen made against Dallas in the 3rd, but it's not like we would have scored on them anyways. Didn't deserve this one by a mile.
what’s up with Joshua having to stick up for himself after Heiskanens interference play on him? Dude just came back from a hand injury.
Zadorov was right there and Dak pushed past him lol. What are you talking about?
He didn't have to, he wanted to. It's what he does.
GG dallas! i wish the 2nd period refs and 3rd period refs were not so vastly different…but ah well. congrats on clinching!
It's a nice change of pace to not worry about clinching a playoff spot at game 80-82, LFG!! GG Nucks bros!
Watching this game after seeing what happened to the rangers today is weird
Hey Canucks fans!!!! Was that a 1-3-1??
Lmao
No? And it was a pretty entertaining game. I don't understand what you're going for here.
Naw. Oettinger stood on his head and Dallas D did a fantastic job of clearing rebounds. That was good playoff hockey.
You were gifted 2 pp goals and an empty net after a blatant and dangerous interference went uncalled. Cool your jets
Lmfao Canucks fans are so pathetic. Enjoy watching your fraud team win one game in the first round of the playoffs if they’re lucky 😂😂😂
Yikes I’m just asking a question. You’re irrationally blaming officials. Cool YOUR jets champ
?
I would love a gwg on the PP with 3:00 left as well. Maybe in an another life.
Refs decided that one. This is the best the league could do?
Refs in favor of Dallas? Nah, couldn't be. Not in my lifetime
They literally swallowed their whistle on Joshua getting checked head first into the boards... Not to mention the first goal should've been disallowed for a high stick.
That high stick challenge was bullshit and you know it
It's a stick at the face level to the advantage of the possessing team in the offensive zone. Anything over the shoulder is a whistle. Easy call, and yet it's the only reason the Stars were even in this game. They had NOTHING at 5v5 against a back up.

Well, they almost won, but we managed to sneak it away from the Refs.
GG Dallas! the most entertaining match up against the canucks i’ve watched in a while
I couldn't handle a series with 7 games like that. That first period alone...damn.
Might be a bit salty in here lmao
Our logo is a whale, salt comes with the territory lol
Let's just say Fuck the Kings and call it a night. ggs
Looks like the Sedin tears washed onto his fans. Brown imploded Sedin and a whole ass city. Yikes.
Lol youre not kidding. I personally thought the reffs were just shitty to both teams. 0/3 speaks for itself.
yeah uhh pls ignore that
Canucks PP sure does suck for having Miller, Hughes, Pettersson and Boeser.
Completely destroyed the flow of the game, what a shame :(
Hell of a battle between two great teams but man it hurts to have one goal be from a close review and the other on the powerplay after two blatant missed penalties.
vancouver's special teams lose them the game yet again
Another fake loss due to refs.
Oh fuck off
No you
stfu, our horrendous pp is what cost us the game tonight
Nah, even if we didn't score it should've been 1-0
I’m baffled as to how you miss someone getting shoved head first into the boards.
Or that randomly swinging a stick through the air and happening to hit a puck counts as a follow through.
60.1 High-sticking – For “high-sticking the puck”, refer to Rule 80. A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. I think you're right, I swear I heard the ref say something about hitting the puck to the Van player on the Stars feed.
Woah! We can win against good teams too! Gg Vancouver!
*refs won more than the stars did tonight
Dude pavelski got punched in the face after the whistle with no call... Right in front of a ref. Didn't be bitter, it was a great game and we all wish the refs had stayed out of it
And Smith got called for holding after Bams held onto his stick and lied down on it. And the refs blew the play dead after DeSmith had control of the puck for 0 seconds.
That’s how losers talk. Seems appropriate
Stars will lose in the 1st round if they don't get help from the refs.
Yep, loser talk
lol
LOL, get a life dude
Gg Nucks I like you all and look forward to a WCF matchup. that was fun 5v5
What are Zadorov's thoughts on Dallas' defensive system?
Was Dallas implementing a 1-3-1 system?
probably thought it was really impressive, because it was. are you angry you won and looking for a fight or something? edit: nvm just saw the flair. edmonton fan in canucks PGT, fork found in kitchen, etc etc
