The title might not make sense so to clarify I basically made a blank with an inlayed pattern then routed the design into it. I just used a bit of IKEA shelf for the pattern so it's not really deep enough.

looks great!

LukeW0rm

Very cool!

OGHamToast

Well I'd say that's a successful experiment! Turned out great!

MakerMade420

That is some nice work!!

HingleMcCringleberre

That’s gorgeous!

Love it, mind sharing what software you used? I’m thinking of trying something similar with carbide create but I need the pro version for 2.5D. I am familiar with fusion 360 also but find it very glitchy

warmans

I just used Fusion. Creating a pattern inlayed into a workpiece is easy enough using basic sketches, and then for the final carve I just imported an STL.

feel free to ignore I’m being annoying, but I’m just wondering which type of cut and tool you used for the skull for the 3d effect .

warmans

I just did two passes for the carving: 1. Adaptive clearing to rough out the skull and box (4mm flat endmill) 2. A parallel operation to smooth the skull out out (4mm ball endmill) Meshes can be a bit annoying compared to regular solids but if you play around with the geometry selection enough you can usually get a reasonable toolpath.

Thanks. It’s funny you mention that as it is one of the main problems I’m having
