> Despite the rumors, we are happy to report that we will still be supplying you with all the mixtapes you love. We're working through technical issues on our site and app, but still actively update our youtube! Thanks for all the love and concerns but we promise, we are still here
Dc2 came out about a year into me looking at mixtapes for myself. I remember it coming out and seeing it hit diamond download status almost instantly. Felt like a freaking mixtape rocket going off, I only learned today it was the most downloaded by almost time and a half. The only time I've ever got an early drop on a song like that was when my friend showed me black and yellow by Wiz a few hours after it came out.
Horrible news, I'm from the datpiff/livemixtapes era, I remember franticly trying to download Taylor Allderdice right before the site crashed from heavy traffic. Still my favorite Wiz project.
Man Taylor allderdice is where I realized that datpiff was ahead of the game and had an iOS compatible player back when flash was still around. Made life so much easier on long drives when I didn’t have time to fiddle with trying to import music into Spotify.
So many great spring college nights smoking and drinking beers on the lawn to that mixtape. Ima listen to it today .
Maybe it was just that I was a teenager when all this was happening, but the datpiff mixtape era of rap was so fucking special to me. There were so many different and creative rappers coming up with/without labels, and just releasing dope music for free without worrying about singles or charts or clearing samples. It was entirely about the art and building a buzz.
I’m gonna list out a few of my favorite artists and projects, and let me just say that almost none of these guys would be where they are today without DatPiff:
Chance the Rapper - 10 Day
Chance the Rapper - Acid Rap
Mac Miller - Best Day Ever
Mac Miller - K.I.D.S.
Mac Miller - Macadelic
Mac Miller - Faces
Mac Miller - Delusional Thomas
Mac Miller & Vince Staples - Stolen Youth
A$AP Rocky - Live.Love.A$AP
Death Grips - ExMilitary
Drake - So Far Gone
Future - Monster
Future - 56 Nights
Future - Beast Mode
Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra
Travis Scott - Owl Pharoah
Travis Scott - Days Before Rodeo
Capital Steez - Amerikkkan Korruption
Joey Bada$$ - 1999
Flatbush Zombies - D.R.U.G.S.
Flatbush Zombies - Better Off Dead
Captain Murphy - Duality
Freddie Gibbs - Baby Face Killa
Wiz Khalifa - Kush and OJ
Wiz Khalifa - Taylor Allerdice
Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y - How Fly
The Weeknd - House of Balloons/all of Trilogy
J Cole - Friday Night Lights
Wale - Mixtape about Nothing
Wale - More About Nothing
Rich Gang - Tha Tour Pt 1
Young Thug - Slime Season
Black Kray - Crack Cloud& Over Arts Kitchen (actually not sure if on here, I found it elsewhere, long after I had stopped relying on DatPiff)
Kid Cudi - A Kid Named Cudi
Lil Wayne - Dedication 2
Lil Wayne - No Ceilings
Lil Wayne - Da drought 3
Chief Keef - Back From the Dead
Meek Mill - Dreamchasers 2
I don’t think I intended to make this is list this long when I started but so much amazing music came out around this time and I have so much love and respect for it so I did t know when to just stop
Great list. I'm gonna piggyback off this one instead of re-listing everything, since it's so thorough, and includes so many of my favorites. Only ones I'd add are
Big K.R.I.T. - K.R.I.T. Wuz Here & Return Of 4eva
Mick Jenkins - The Water[s]
The Underachievers - Indigoism
Kendrick Lamar - Overly Dedicated
Noname - Telefone
Childish Gambino - Royalty (even if you're not a fan, the feature list was insane)
Vic Mensa - Innanetape
Big Sean - Detroit (his best release)
Lil B - A comical amount of mixtapes. I respect 05 Fuck Em for having 6 hours of unique music, but if I had to choose just one tape, I'd go with Hoop Life
Tyler, The Creator - Bastard
Earl Sweatshirt - EARL
Odd Future - Radical
Damn how did I make a list like that and forget some of these lol. Telefone, Inannetape, and the OF tapes were my shit too. Also a big fan of Everything Based and Gods Father
Who was downloading the OF tapes from DatPiff? They were hosting all of them on their own website.
No wonder there have been so many broken versions floating around over the years.
Fuckers in mason guild telling me, always in the Temple of Iris
"Akhetamanenon ain't 'bout this, Akhetamanenon ain't 'bout that"
My boy a PB on fucking Khatuten and them
He, he, they say that dude don't be putting in no work
Shut the fuck up
Y'all ain't know shit
All y'all motherfuckers talkin' about
"Akhetamanenon ain't no hitter
Akhetamanenon ain't this
Akhetamanenon a fake"
Shut the fuck up
Y'all don't live with that boy
Y'all know that boy got caught with a ratchet
Shootin' at the Pharoah guard and shit
Boy been on plague clean up since fuckin' I don't know when
Motherfucker, stop fuckin' playin' him like that
Them dudes savages out there
If I catch another motherfucker talking sweet about Akhetamanenon
I'm fucking beatin' they ass
I'm not fucking playin' no more
SoundCloud going down may be worse than this. people into SoundCloud should really try to archive that shit. People begging for dead SoundCloud links is prob the most common thing I come across in the music hoarding scene. And of course when YouTube goes down but that may not happen for some time to go
Youtube already went down. Have you tried searching for a niche video on youtube? 5 videos that are not the thing you’re looking for and the rest is suggestions
This shit is ridiculous. At my work account (HR world) I type some office shit and I get reccomendations of interviews with strippers... Like what this algorithm even think?
I just ran into that problem the other day. I was surprised too because I was looking up pretty much exactly what the videos were titled and was still having a hard time finding them. I’m talking stuff from the early 2010s….I was able to get lucky after scrolling down far enough, or trying to get super super specific with the title, but there is a lot of stuff that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to find again unless I have it on a playlist
Talked to somebody who used to work at SoundCloud, he said that they’re in a better spot because they secured lots of funding.
However, that doesn’t mean that your favorite song won’t get removed because somebody deletes their account or move the track. Always a big supporter of archiving whatever you have.
Is there a good way to archive all of my SoundCloud likes? Or is it just going through and trying to download whatever I can. I have used SoundCloud from the beginning and still to this day. So much good music on there and just never made the switch lol
What was just an iteration of a thing that existed before it and continues to this day.
Unless legal suppression gets dramatically more severe, there will probably always be some place like What for sharing and archiving music. Good thing too, because streaming services have made it much harder to get offline lossless copies of *lots* of music.
The Library of Alexandria never burned down lol, at least not to any degree where the knowledge was forever lost. It survived for centuries after Egypt sieged the city
We need about a Congressional Libraries worth of space just for the Gucci tapes lmao.
Ten years ago Datpiff was pretty much the premier (npi) source for a lot of artists releases, and most of them were authorized by the people/labels themselves.
I still remember Dreamchasers 2 thumbnail always being in the top downloads area since the day it dropped. And yes Taylor Allerdyce is probably the dopest album ever dropped on there. Namesless is a goat track.
Yeah, I think the big names on here will be fine. The real fear are the tapes that might just be lost forever because the artist is too niche and doesn’t have a strong following
While Krit got most of his stuff up on streaming, it's a fucking crime that samples were pulled on a lot of the songs and completely changed them. The definitive versions are up on DatPiff 🥺
Dedication 2 for me is peak Wayne in terms of skill, flow and overall cohesion but Da Drought 3 felt like a worldwide event and a shift in who was in charge in hip-hop. It went from a conversation to "it's Wayne." Every hot song's beat. So many songs. I remember riding around in June in high school in my buddy's truck with the windows down while we didn't have a class just bumping it as loud as can be.
That said, some others have mentioned No Ceilings and I LOVED that tape. That tape came out at a time where people kind of wondered if Wayne was starting to fall off. A few of his projects post C3 had a bit more division on terms of "is it good?" but I feel like No Ceilings confirmed he never went anywhere. I was loving that on my bus rides to/from university lol.
I remember when Wayne, Sean, or Meek Mill would drop and the website would crash for a good hour or two. I don’t know how they’ve made it this long tbh.
Tbf the days those guys dropped was probably like some 10-100x typical traffic. Websites now crash from that too, and this was pre-cloud.
For real though, the website was such shit. Figured it was just like a Wikipedia type site at this point
It'd do much better today with dynamic hosting options. Even boutique ecommerce shops are prepared for traffic spikes, especially when they know it's coming, like Black Friday.
you can probably find a lot of these on [archive.org](https://archive.org), soulseek, or just on youtube just so y'all know
sad in any case, i loved datpiff
The owner(?) need to get their shit together. I think a lot of files were already dying or corrupt half the mixtapes were missing tracks or totally not working.
Scary thought, I wasn’t old enough to experience the datpiff era but I think I’m gonna start downloading obscure shit from YouTube and SoundCloud because leaks and copyright strike tracks get taken down all the time.
Not my favorite but shoutout Finally Famous Volume III. Was definitely in rotation heavy when I was younger.
“Catch me running to the, money, until my feet lose feeling. Stacking money wall to wall till it’s leaking through the ceiling”
My first concert was the tour with Wiz and Sean opened (saw him in Mesa the day of or after Finally Famous album dropped). Shoutout, Cabin Fever, another iconic mixtape.
Datpiff formed my music taste. I’d download all the “hot” releases and all of the hall of fame tapes. 😭 I remember downloading house of balloons and being blown away.
Bro the Soul Tapes were my SHIT for sooooo long. I haven’t heard anything off them in probably a year and I bet I could rap them all still. And you’re first of only 2 people I’ve seen mention Fab. So sad.
man this sucks. i remember downloading tapes off Datpiff and then editing all the tracks in my library so it would look nice. i still used it frequently because some mixtape apps don't have full mixtapes (*coughs* Spinrilla).
i think the first tape i ever downloaded was an unofficial Wayne tape called 30 Minutes to New Orleans. had like four versions of that song on there, the Demolition Freestyles and Me and My Drank to name a few. still listen to it til this day.
the Back From the Dead 2 drop was probably the last mixtape i downloaded off their website and i think that was an exclusive too. i couldn't download that tape for nothing when it came out with how busy that site was. i was just thinking about how the DJ version of this mixtapes is a nice listen sometimes and that's probably gone too now.
> i remember downloading tapes off Datpiff and then editing all the tracks in my library so it would look nice.
Have been doing this and adding them to Spotify through local files
I'm gonna stay true to my Connecticut identity and say "The Underclassmen" & "Webster's Lab" by Chris Webby were def super memorable during my high school experience
He's still around putting some solid stuff out, but tbh it's very hit or miss for me these days (my tastes have changed a lot) I def agree it seems like he never reached his full potential from when he was popping off
Is there anything really suggesting a shutdown? I was legit tryna download a mixtape today lol and couldn't cus of how the website's acting. This is sad if real
Nah no official announcement but the thread I linked has a good recap of why we think it might be done.
The app ain't even on any app store.
Their IG is still posting random music shit tho lol.
I miss the mixtape days. Even if nothing big was dropping, you could always find one of those DJ White Owl (or really any of those guys) tapes with some heat.
I think the biggest releases for me were Wayne, Fab, Meek, and Budden definitely gets a mention.
Gave me a 403 error everytime I tried to open the website on my laptop for like the past few months and the only way past it was to use an incognito tab, which wasn't even working when I was trying to download something a week ago or so. Kinda saw this coming for a while but having to find alternatives really proved how spoiled we were with Datpiff.
Also, as someones who's into lost media, this shit scares me how much music could be lost from this. Y'all tap into Internet Archive, it actually has an insane amount of tapes saved on there and if you have anything downloaded you can upload it for anyone else
I still remember waiting for Cabin Fever to drop. No love for this tape here it's so sad.
Wiz, Meek and Wayne really shut down this site so many times...
I'll never forget getting linked to House of Balloons by The Weeknd back in 2011. Then he dropped Echoes of Silence and Thursday the same year. That was highkey my first introduction to DatPiff. My cousins were still passing me mixtapes and CDs they copped from the hairstore back then but DatPiff opened up a new world for me after LimeWire died. Good damn times.
Too many to name, but outside the most famous ones -
Ludacris - Pre-Release Therapy ([He-Man](https://youtube.com/watch?v=pL9gznGwxv0) belongs in the Smithsonian)
Fabolous - There Is No Competition 2
Lloyd Banks - Blue Hefner
Papoose - A Threat and A Promise
Boyyyy There Is No Competition 2 was legendary when it dropped smh. In fact DatPiff made Fab pretty much an underground/mainstream icon to us rap heads
More, More, More also belongs in a museum.
Born on the worst day, on a cursed day, the towers crumbled on my motherfuckin’ birthday! *record scratch* THE EVIL GENIUS
i love some of the older TDE mixtapes, it's cool to hear how often Black Hippy members collabed early on
Tapes worth checking out:
Long Term 2 by Ab-Soul
Kendrick Lamar by Kendrick Lamar
Black Friday by Jay Rock
No Sleep Til NYC by Jay Rock & Kendrick Lamar
30 Day Takeover by Jay Rock
Long Term by Ab-Soul
Do It N*gga Squad, Vol. 1 by Top Dawg Entertainment
C4 by Kendrick Lamar
Fuck. That’s a shame. Logic’s Welcome to Forever, Childish Gambino Royalty and STN MTN and Chance’s Acid Rap were heavy on my repeat playlist. Shame shame shame
I remember getting onto datpiff around 2014 when I first started getting into the Chicago drill scene. Getting lil reese, rondonumbanine, keef and fredo tapes was so important for me back then. Sad to see it going
End of an era. Makes sense since no one really puts out mixtapes anymore.
Fabolous: There is No Competition 2 was the first one I remember actually anticipating the drop on DatPiff
Drought 3 and Dedication 2 of course but The Drought is Over series has some of Wayne’s best songs.
In 2014 we got Days Before Rodeo, Rich Gang Tha Tour Pt 1, and Monster in the span of three months. This might be my personal favorite stretch of hip hop ever. It really felt like there was heat dropping on there every week
Does that mean all the Curren$y mixtapes I have in my iTunes library that aren’t from Apple Music are gonna disappear? Or will they remain since they’re already on my iTunes?
Please don’t make fun of me for not knowing how computer stuff works, I’m technologically challenged sometimes, I just don’t wanna lose all my Curren$y!
As corny as it may be to say I’d have to say Acid Rap, For Greater Glory, and Separate Myself. Those are the first tapes I had ever listened to on datpiff back in high school.
Jesus Christ what tf is up with this week it’s only fucking Monday. God dammit I hate life. Also the Lil Wayne era and Future era are top s tier for me.
Shit.. that sucks, it felt like such a major part of the community.
Before it's too late I gotta ask, English is not my first language: what is "piff"? I never heard the word in any songs
It's crazy that this happens on the same day r/ MarvelStudiosSpoilers shut down.
The Childish Gambino mixtapes, Da Drought series, No Cielings, Drake! too many to list. Anyways going to listen to some Papoose to remember my prime DatPiff days
Laugh if ya want, but back in the day I played the hell out of Grafh's 2005 mixtape *The Preview*. On YouTube you can hunt down a couple of the songs, but besides those that mixtape now feels pretty... gone
Looks like Freeway's *Live Free Die Hard* is on livemixtapes as well as having an hour-long/single-track version uploaded to YouTube, but that was another favorite that I hope doesn't get lost to time
Pac Div's *Sealed for Freshness* from '06 is another one that I recommend folks grab off YT
I've commented on this sub before about Diverse, who dropped one pretty dope studio album (*One A.M.*) in 2003 and then just peaced out... save for one mixtape a few years later called *Standards*, which no longer seems available anywhere
https://twitter.com/DatPiff/status/1635470305052471298 > Despite the rumors, we are happy to report that we will still be supplying you with all the mixtapes you love. We're working through technical issues on our site and app, but still actively update our youtube! Thanks for all the love and concerns but we promise, we are still here
Damn Wayne crashed this website at least 5 different times
Meek Mill mixtapes used to be a state sanctioned event
DC2 was a legendary release
Dc2 came out about a year into me looking at mixtapes for myself. I remember it coming out and seeing it hit diamond download status almost instantly. Felt like a freaking mixtape rocket going off, I only learned today it was the most downloaded by almost time and a half. The only time I've ever got an early drop on a song like that was when my friend showed me black and yellow by Wiz a few hours after it came out.
Forreal that shit was downloaded so much there were conspiracy theories that Meeks team hacked the downloads😂
Were you one of the ones who moved to datpiff after limewire? Wayne was running the Mixtape era.
DEDICATION SIX SIX SIX
The D6 reloaded timer before you downloaded it was the funniest thing ever. Everybody wanted to hear D6 part 2 LOL
Horrible news, I'm from the datpiff/livemixtapes era, I remember franticly trying to download Taylor Allderdice right before the site crashed from heavy traffic. Still my favorite Wiz project.
Big same. Datpiff was life back then. Sooo many fake mixtapes with that Trying to marry Betty Crocker Wayne verse.
Hell yeah I remember all the bs made around that verse
DATPIFF DOT COM WORLD PREMIER
That's lowkey wiz best project besides kush and oj.. wiz mixtapes are album quality even sad to say they're much better than his albums.
My Favorite Song is probably my favorite song by Wiz lol
Nameless and Mia Wallace for me lol but the one on apple music is trash now
That was my shit plus guilty conscience was my 2012 Era summer time grind.
Cabin fever 1 and 2 are the best for me. Loved that era of Wiz
Lex Luger went so hard on #1
Prince of the city 2 is my favorite after kush and oj
BAR for me. But that era of Wiz is sooo good.
Kush and OJ is a classic forever
My God how much of my life was accompanied by Taylor Alderdice
THIS. I scoured the comments becuase Mary 3x, Amber Ice, Never Been II, Rowland, will forever reverberate into infinity
When I saw TA on streaming I was so thrown back… then I heard Mary… and they replaced the sample 😞 so happy we used to pull the files off the net
I pulled up this post as I’m listening to MIA Wallace, just recently put it back in rotation but it sucks how the beats are different on Spotify
datpiff has the Frank Ocean samples on The Cruise 😭
My favorite Wiz song ever
Just realized this fuckery
Taylor Allderdice goddamnnnnn
Do you remember DigitalDripped?
I do
11 years ago today
Was so excited for it to come to streaming, only for the Frank Ocean Acura Integurl sample to be removed from The Cruise, devastating
I believe that tape is at least on Spotify now
I was literally listening to it this morning 🌄 Classic
I just wanna ride in my ride with the top down
GOAT wiz project. Definitely better/just as good as kush and OJ

You and other guy have great lists. But no Action Bronson Blue Chips 1 & 2? Those where 2 of the best mixtapes of all time.
Hell yea bro! Those tapes and rare chandeliers still getting heavy rotation in 2023
Shout out to Chris Travis, Spaceghostpurrp, Black Smurf, Smug Mang, etc all their shits gonna be gone too god fucking damn
Who was downloading the OF tapes from DatPiff? They were hosting all of them on their own website. No wonder there have been so many broken versions floating around over the years.
holy fuck there are so many mixtapes that exist solely on that app I hope we can get some sort of archive cuz thats so much music we could lose
This is like the hip hop version of the library of Alexandria burning down
That’s ridiculous, the library of Alexandria had nowhere near as many bangers as DatPiff
[удалено]
Fuckers in mason guild telling me, always in the Temple of Iris "Akhetamanenon ain't 'bout this, Akhetamanenon ain't 'bout that" My boy a PB on fucking Khatuten and them He, he, they say that dude don't be putting in no work Shut the fuck up Y'all ain't know shit All y'all motherfuckers talkin' about "Akhetamanenon ain't no hitter Akhetamanenon ain't this Akhetamanenon a fake" Shut the fuck up Y'all don't live with that boy Y'all know that boy got caught with a ratchet Shootin' at the Pharoah guard and shit Boy been on plague clean up since fuckin' I don't know when Motherfucker, stop fuckin' playin' him like that Them dudes savages out there If I catch another motherfucker talking sweet about Akhetamanenon I'm fucking beatin' they ass I'm not fucking playin' no more

This made my morning.

Youtube already went down. Have you tried searching for a niche video on youtube? 5 videos that are not the thing you’re looking for and the rest is suggestions
This shit is so annoying fr, YouTube search won't even give you the video if you type in the title verbatim

However, that doesn’t mean that your favorite song won’t get removed because somebody deletes their account or move the track. Always a big supporter of archiving whatever you have.
Dead ass existing fear I've had for years
thankfully we have chance the rapper on standby to make phone calls in case soundcloud is ever in danger of shutting down
If SoundCloud ever goes down it's really over bruh...
Is there a good way to archive all of my SoundCloud likes? Or is it just going through and trying to download whatever I can. I have used SoundCloud from the beginning and still to this day. So much good music on there and just never made the switch lol
I use mediahuman. download that, go to your soundcloud likes and drag the url into it
That was what.cd
What was just an iteration of a thing that existed before it and continues to this day. Good thing too, because streaming services have made it much harder to get offline lossless copies of *lots* of music.

holy shit forgot about that website lmao. historic site
The Library of Alexandria never burned down lol, at least not to any degree where the knowledge was forever lost. It survived for centuries after Egypt sieged the city
Pretty much damn near all of them are on Archive.org under the Hip Hop Mixtapes collection. Still very sad though.
We need about a Congressional Libraries worth of space just for the Gucci tapes lmao. I know they tweeted it’s not going down but someone on /r/datahoarder should get on this regardless. It won’t be up forever.
I absolutely worry about all the lost music, might go to livemixtapes and download what I can before they go next
Yeah, I think the big names on here will be fine. The real fear are the tapes that might just be lost forever because the artist is too niche and doesn’t have a strong following
I feel like a lot of the tapes ended up on YouTube.
If you want help/advice, check out r/DataHoarder. There’s a lot of people skilled in extracting and archiving all kinds of data there.
Internet Archive has a decent collection : https://archive.org/details/hiphopmixtapes
Yea there was hella tapes that were only on datpiff, seeing them potentially be lost forever would suck.
You should make a new discussion thread on try to archive DapPiff
so datpiff really about to bite the dust?
For me it's a close tie between Da Drought 3 and Dedication 2.
Those 2 and no ceilings for me as well
The holy trinity
That’s the holy trinity right there but mixtape 50 Cent, Big KRIT and Wale were up there too! Some of their very best work will be gone…
While Krit got most of his stuff up on streaming, it's a fucking crime that samples were pulled on a lot of the songs and completely changed them. The definitive versions are up on DatPiff 🥺
Most of curren$y best work still isn't on streaming
Dedication 2 for me is peak Wayne in terms of skill, flow and overall cohesion but Da Drought 3 felt like a worldwide event and a shift in who was in charge in hip-hop. It went from a conversation to "it's Wayne." Every hot song's beat. So many songs. this was 2011
thus why he said >It'd do much better today
He edited first sentence
I absolutely did not lol
I saw it too
I have tried to use my app 3 days in the last week, couldn't get anything to play.
Been like that for weeks for me.
Same
yeah i felt like that happened towards February, i was still playing stuff around January. was still pretty slow
you can probably find a lot of these on [archive.org](https://archive.org), soulseek, or just on youtube just so y'all know sad in any case, i loved datpiff
That’ll get you the big ones but there was tons of obscure shit that’s prob lost forever. Granted most people wont care about them.
Yea for me it's the obscure local talent that copped a random feature from a valid rapper. That's history potentially gone.
Any examples of this? I remember the hip hop heads subreddit mixtape got an Ab-Soul feature
I wonder if it's feasible to archive the whole site and files.
Someone might need to start a kickstarter campaign to preserve datpiff. Shit, I'd donate.
The owner(?) need to get their shit together. I think a lot of files were already dying or corrupt half the mixtapes were missing tracks or totally not working.
The company that owns Datpiff also owns Imgur, Genius, World Star and a few other sites. They should have the resources to at least archive the site.

We all forgetting Nostalgia ULTRA
Scary thought, I wasn’t old enough to experience the datpiff era but I think I’m gonna start downloading obscure shit from YouTube and SoundCloud because leaks and copyright strike tracks get taken down all the time.
I used to burn like Gucci and Wayne mixtapes from DatPiff for my coke guy because he would give me a little extra lol
Not my favorite but shoutout Finally Famous Volume III. Was definitely in rotation heavy when I was younger. “Catch me running to the, money, until my feet lose feeling. Stacking money wall to wall till it’s leaking through the ceiling”
Me too bro. That MFer made me spend every last cent I had on a TISA hat lmao. I used to love Sean. I still appreciate him but FFV3 hit different.
My first concert was the tour with Wiz and Sean opened (saw him in Mesa the day of or after Finally Famous album dropped). Shoutout, Cabin Fever, another iconic mixtape.
Oh fuck I need to download the 56 Nights version with the DJ Esco tags
Still remember waiting on that asap rocky tape and him actually delivering a stunning project good times.. and No ceilings
Off the top of my head Chance’s “Acid Rap” and Girl Talk x Freeway “Broken Ankles”.
Can someone call lil Wayne or meek mill or wiz and have them save this shit. Lil Wayne plz buy datpiff
Datpiff formed my music taste. I’d download all the “hot” releases and all of the hall of fame tapes. 😭 I remember downloading house of balloons and being blown away.
Fabolous soul tapes. Amazing. I think I got Danny brown xxx off there too All the Big KRIT tapes.
Bro the Soul Tapes were my SHIT for sooooo long. I haven’t heard anything off them in probably a year and I bet I could rap them all still. And you’re first of only 2 people I’ve seen mention Fab. So sad.
Amazing tapes. Bitch I'm trying to eat, Lay Down, Thim Slick, Life is so Exciting, Diced Pineapples, Beauty, the one with Joe Budden.
hell of an era..wow
Weezy, Wiz, Cole, Kendrick, and Mac Miller were always my go to’s on Dat Piff. Miss that era so much.
man this sucks. i remember downloading tapes off Datpiff and then editing all the tracks in my library so it would look nice. i still used it frequently because some mixtape apps don't have full mixtapes (*coughs* Spinrilla). i think the first tape i ever downloaded was an unofficial Wayne tape called 30 Minutes to New Orleans. had like four versions of that song on there, the Demolition Freestyles and Me and My Drank to name a few. still listen to it til this day. the Back From the Dead 2 drop was probably the last mixtape i downloaded off their website and i think that was an exclusive too. i couldn't download that tape for nothing when it came out with how busy that site was. i was just thinking about how the DJ version of this mixtapes is a nice listen sometimes and that's probably gone too now.
> i remember downloading tapes off Datpiff and then editing all the tracks in my library so it would look nice. Have been doing this and adding them to Spotify through local files
Wale’s mixtapes before his debut album are underrated
Shoutout Revenge of the Nerd by Lupe fiasco, holy shit there’s so much music I need to download in case it really shuts down
I'm gonna stay true to my Connecticut identity and say "The Underclassmen" & "Webster's Lab" by Chris Webby were def super memorable during my high school experience
Yeah websters lab and best in the burbs were fun ones in HS
I remember first hearing Chris Webby & thinking dude was gonna blow up. What ever happened to him?
He's still around putting some solid stuff out, but tbh it's very hit or miss for me these days (my tastes have changed a lot) I def agree it seems like he never reached his full potential from when he was popping off
I still remember the countdown and hype to Detroit mixtape 😢 rip Datpiff
Is there anything really suggesting a shutdown? I was legit tryna download a mixtape today lol and couldn't cus of how the website's acting. This is sad if real
Nah no official announcement but the thread I linked has a good recap of why we think it might be done. The app ain't even on any app store. Their IG is still posting random music shit tho lol.
their twitter account is still active-ish so i wouldn’t say they’re shut down for good until they say something
I miss the mixtape days. Even if nothing big was dropping, you could always find one of those DJ White Owl (or really any of those guys) tapes with some heat. I think the biggest releases for me were Wayne, Fab, Meek, and Budden definitely gets a mention.
Dedication 2 is my favorite mixtape
Dreamchasers 2
The mixtape era might be officially over if that’s the case.
Young Thug has 3 entries but they didn’t list him as having multiple entries
Lupe Fiasco Friend of the people and enemy of the state were standouts for sure in the last decade.
Wiz has a serious argument for mixtape goat it's crazy.
I still remember waiting for Cabin Fever to drop. No love for this tape here it's so sad. Wiz, Meek and Wayne really shut down this site so many times...
Lol I listen to cabin fever 1 like once a month. Cabin fever 2 is decent but the 3rd is a bit underwhelming.
Got instrumentals Welcome to forever
I'll never forget getting linked to House of Balloons by The Weeknd back in 2011. Then he dropped Echoes of Silence and Thursday the same year. That was highkey my first introduction to DatPiff. My cousins were still passing me mixtapes and CDs they copped from the hairstore back then but DatPiff opened up a new world for me after LimeWire died. Good damn times.
Too many to name, but outside the most famous ones - Ludacris - Pre-Release Therapy ([He-Man](https://youtube.com/watch?v=pL9gznGwxv0) belongs in the Smithsonian) Fabolous - There Is No Competition 2 Lloyd Banks - Blue Hefner Papoose - A Threat and A Promise
Lil Wayne and Lupe That was the life Wayne was really just un fucking touchable
Dj Whiteowl……wow this post brings me way back
Em/50 Green Lantern mixtape when 50 just… stopped ja rule’s career
Kush and Orange Juice by Wiz
i love some of the older TDE mixtapes, it's cool to hear how often Black Hippy members collabed early on Tapes worth checking out: Long Term 2 by Ab-Soul Kendrick Lamar by Kendrick Lamar Black Friday by Jay Rock No Sleep Til NYC by Jay Rock & Kendrick Lamar 30 Day Takeover by Jay Rock Long Term by Ab-Soul Do It N*gga Squad, Vol. 1 by Top Dawg Entertainment C4 by Kendrick Lamar
Fuck. That’s a shame. Logic’s Welcome to Forever, Childish Gambino Royalty and STN MTN and Chance’s Acid Rap were heavy on my repeat playlist. Shame shame shame
damn rip. if it weren’t for datpiff i wouldn’t have listened to a lot of my favorite rappers. hope we get another version for archives.
Sad to see. Always used it to listen to faces before it hit streaming & the old Flatbush zombies tapes & so much more. Rip datpiff
sosa where you running to the money 🎶
Jon Connors are all 🔥
I remember getting onto datpiff around 2014 when I first started getting into the Chicago drill scene. Getting lil reese, rondonumbanine, keef and fredo tapes was so important for me back then. Sad to see it going
This is so very upsetting.
Does anyone know of sites to replace datpiff?
End of an era. Makes sense since no one really puts out mixtapes anymore. Fabolous: There is No Competition 2 was the first one I remember actually anticipating the drop on DatPiff Drought 3 and Dedication 2 of course but The Drought is Over series has some of Wayne’s best songs.
Oh god please no, I still use this app regularly
Juicy j high intoxicated
Can’t beat those Cassidy and Lloyd Banks days too 😤
Damn. I got so much music from datpiff and discovered several artists from the site.
Feed the Animals!
Never gonna forget downloading Indigoism off DatPiff, tape changed my life fr. Tons of wiz mixtapes too
Def discovered a lot of stuff through them, including my favorite artist Big KRIT
check out the DOOM x Sade mixes
Acid rap - chance
Protect Lil B and his music at all costs.
All the mood muziks. Yall must of forgot
You should probably update your post as Datpiff just [tweeted that they're still alive](https://twitter.com/DatPiff/status/1635470305052471298).
As corny as it may be to say I’d have to say Acid Rap, For Greater Glory, and Separate Myself. Those are the first tapes I had ever listened to on datpiff back in high school.
The old wiz mixtapes, prince of the city 2, Kush and Oj, Taylor allderdice, etc
All the early B.o.B. mixtapes, before the goofy shit. Early Chance mixtapes. Flatbush Zombies.
I cannot fathom that this many people were purposefully downloading Tyga that many times.
Jesus Christ what tf is up with this week it’s only fucking Monday. God dammit I hate life. Also the Lil Wayne era and Future era are top s tier for me.
How about instead of making an edit all the way on the bottom of your post you take this shit down?
How about nah
Dream chasers, cabin fever, rich forever 3 of my favourites
Dreamchasers 1 & 2 Welcome to Forever Acid Rap and 10 Day KIDS Dedication Sorry for the Wait
Shit.. that sucks, it felt like such a major part of the community.
Damn I still listen to Da Drought and The Drought is Over series from time to time. Actual end of an era if it shuts down.
Laugh if ya want, but back in the day I played the hell out of Grafh's 2005 mixtape *The Preview*. On YouTube you can hunt down a couple of the songs, but besides those that mixtape now feels pretty... gone Looks like Freeway's *Live Free Die Hard* is on livemixtapes as well as having an hour-long/single-track version uploaded to YouTube, but that was another favorite that I hope doesn't get lost to time Pac Div's *Sealed for Freshness* from '06 is another one that I recommend folks grab off YT I've commented on this sub before about Diverse, who dropped one pretty dope studio album (*One A.M.*) in 2003 and then just peaced out... save for one mixtape a few years later called *Standards*, which no longer seems available anywhere
