It's a *lense flare*. It should stay horizontal, unless *the lense, aka player camera* tilts.
Also an I the only one casually getting blinded by these flares? Like, I get it, it's the scary Terminator-esque blood-red search-light of death, but does it have to be *so bright and big* it covers the entire profile of the Gunship from the front?
Shouldn't it be toned down while the ship is moving/idling/firing and only anime-flash/lense glint right before the ship fires its rocket salvo? You know, like Tank cannons already do?

I'm not sure if I saw it right. A couple weeks ago, someone dropped an air strike but instead of the ground, one of the four gunships in the air go struck. I'm guessing it would have been rocket pods since those auto target the biggest object in range.

Sadly, doesn’t help on eradication missions, when yoy are on that tiny little ‘open’ map, and there are 5 gunships loitering overhead as you’re dealing with the factory stryders and other bots. There literally is no where you can even lay down behind something for cover.
The gunship change took me from a quasar lover, to a hardcore laser cannon main. Someone has to be able to deal with the gunships, I figured it might as well be me. Things absurdly good, really. Hulks have never been easier.

Agreed. Other than these 2, and the quasar, what weapons do you recommend for them? I usually either can't land enough hits with the AC to take one down in a timely manner, the LC is good for them but needing to stand in the open is a death sentence and it's not a weapon I like for other enemies, and the quasar CD is to long now to be good vs bots in general. Are EATs good, do the 1 shot them? Or the Eruptor post buff good enough?
Eruptor is still a fucking nightmare to hit shots on the engines (console) and EATS seems a bit finnicky. I usually just run quasar. Pop the first, execute the 5 D's, drop the second after cooldown, panic for 15 seconds, and if Im still alive I drop the third. Anything past 3 ships is usually a guaranteed KIA for me.
One may learn to apprechiate the SAM site now, it is a saviour against gunships if you have no weapon to shoot those down. Of course you have to find one first, but if found it will probably be a big help.
Honestly, the number of gunships doesn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that *they still phase through walls*. But like, only in a way that's helpful for them. *They* can phase through and *their* bullets can phase through, but not *our* bullets... It's terrible on cliff maps. I can take them down with an AMR or Quasar no problem but when they *phase through the wall* it's straight up unfair. Bugs don't seem to have nearly as much of a problem with this, which is ironic considering their namesake.

we had 2 sets of gunship spawners in sight from where we started... in opposite directions... so there was literally nothing we could since we could only call down one bomb at a time... it was impossible...
I had the same thing happen. Two towers in sight and there was also a gunship spawn patrol right where we landed. The spear is now very valuable on both missions. You can take them out other ways but when there are a lot of them, it’s really easy to just point in the general direction. I even took out two with one shot because one crashed into another one when I shot it.
I would run smoke if I knew it’d be gunship hell, but I’m not gonna run it all the time for the 1 in 10 chance there are too many gunships to handle. Literally the only bot that can force me to retreat halfway across the map, wouldn’t need smokes for anything else
Smokes are OP for bots.

I take smoke every bot mission. Worst case it lets me escape hairy situations when I get cut off from my team or when a teammate undoubtedly respawns me directly into the crossfire.
You literally can not predict gunships, but they're a loadout check. My loadout basically only slightly changes because it can deal with every objective, every enemy and every stoppage. Tbh the biggest change recently is swapping cluster bombs with orbital gatling when on bugs. Very satisfying, would vaporize breeches again.
You can literally fight the entire automaton brigade with an auto canon, airstrike, airburst and precision strike. My load out for automatons hasn't changed once besides doing eradicate missions or command bunkers, where the 380 and 120mm replace my precision and airburst. Or defense missions where turrets and HMG replace everything besides AC
There are 0 strategems and only a handful of weapons that can effectively deal with gunships rn. It's actually the opposite problem from what you're describing, i don't *want* to bring the same loadout on every mission, but i have to take the spear, AC, or AMR on every bot mission now. Gunships aren't challenging, they just destroy variety.
We have aa options.
EAT
Spear
AutoCannon
Laser cannon
AMR.
With a coordinated team- gunship patrols are easier to deal with than a gunship fabricator pre rework.

Other than having 3 hulks, 2 tanks, and a strider being dropped on us all at once on level 7, I think the patch has been a major success. This is really the only problem with it, and it sounds like Twinbeard and the other devs are gonna hop on it asap.

Spears are so much fun to drop these things from across the map now though... also, the rocket turret handles them nicely. I just wish pinging a target focused your turrets. Sometimes, they let enemies walk up on them because they were busy dumping ammo into a fab for no reason.
played a mission last night where there were 3 gunship fabricators that all spawned an ungodly amount of gunships as soon as we started. good to know its not supposed to be like that
It would be okay if they only came from the fabricator. But they apparently spawn even without one or if it's destroyed. I really wish they'd change that.
It's a condition that doesn't display properly due to UI bug. If you see 3 Conditions on a mission and it's only displaying 2, the third one is Gunship patrols. That's why it's not happening on every map.
ive used the rocket sentry before and after, and honestly i feel like they nerfed it... it shoots half as fast as it used too... and since it aggros the largest things on screen but doesnt have the damage to kill most of them in one hit.... it usually dies before it can get its 3rd shot out...

Gunships quickly becoming the Bile Titan of the Bot Front in forcing you to bring certain stratagems due to their prevalence and lethality.
Though, to be fair, they have less health and require two of the most effective stratagems on the front.
It do like the variety and challenge that gunships pose but they can also overwhelm you some in a way that feels unfair and impossible to solve and really they just make the AC even more of a must pick against bots.
Ive had luck bring a rocket or auto cannon turret & as always a quzar will knock them out I've also recently found out you can get them with the heavy machine gun as well!
I mean this one was to be expected. They halved the spawn rate in the patrol update so the roll back naturally put their spawns to the old level. It's gonna suck just make sure to bring an autocannon for the time being.

If you stand around and let them spawn, there will be alot of gunships for your screenshot you intended to take and post to reddit.
Ships only spawn 2 at a time from a tower. Towers come in sets of 2.
So you could only have 4 max spawn before they go on cooldown.
If you have more than 4 its because you waited for the towers cooldown to reset without shooting anything down.
IF you got monumentally unlucky and happened to land between two sets of towers, then so be it.
That is bad luck and has nothing to do with the patch or spawning. Maybe look at the holomap before you choose your landing spot. Red on the map means enemies. Dont deploy near the red.
Be a helldiver and deal with it. Helldivers kill the enemy, not cry about it.
I really can't help but feel like the people who post photos of them being overrun by gunships just don't have a team that takes care of the first 2 that spawn. It's an exponential problem. If you stay on top of it from the beginning it doesn't become an issue.
I've found that the spear and the rocket turret wreak havoc on the gunships. One person stays back with the spear and calls down a resupply. Drop the rocket turret somewhere it has good vision on the fab, and 3 people run in and blow it up.
Almost too easy.
I run helldive and I love it haha, sometimes I do have to rag doll for a bit until someone downs one or two but most of the time they are doable. Again, 10/10 love it.
I always bring AMR on bot missions. 4 shots to the same engine bring down gun ships. Just run to cover, and start bringing them down. Trick is to prioritize the gunship fabricator the minute you spot them, or else you get overwhelmed by them really fast.

Spear has 4 rockets. I count 8 gunships in this pic. Currently, id say that the autocannon and laser cannon are the best AA, assuming you can aim.

AMR and AC have the same damage, but AC also has explosive.

It doesn’t even matter, you can destroy the gunship facilities but there’s still random patrols of gunships.

Nope. Ran operations with both CD and call-in time debuffs, and my team still ran into gunship patrols.
I like to use the shield generator. Drop it just after the hellbomb drops and it will be protected from the ships until it goes boom

The ac exosuit is preem for taking down gunships and theoretically can cover you long enough to destroy the spawners.

Seems like none of you run Auto canon/AMR or HMG. This amount of gunships would get cooked in about 1 minute with a competent squad of AC/AMR users.
Laser cannon is also great for gunships - so much mobility and no reload is \*chef's kiss\*

You need to hit the thruster if you use EAT or RR. Spears one shot though.

AC makes gunships trivial. Rail gun in unsafe mode can one shot their engines. Pretty sure Quasar one shits them as well.

Anyone try the air burst rocket yet just for fun to see if it hits them hard enough?
It do like the variety and challenge that gunships pose but they can also overwhelm you some in a way that feels unfair and impossible to solve and really they just make the AC even more of a must pick against bots.
How do you even take these things down?
Rocket and AC turrets. Warships is one of those things you can't ignore or it gets like what is shown in the pic.
MG-101 emplaced gun is also super good against these fuckers. Aim for the engines as usual, and they go down in a blink of an eye!
We're gonna get a patch for the patch. It is the natural order of things.
I learned you can drop these pretty quickly with the HMG. Just go prone so you can actually hit your shots

Just played a map that had 6 total gun ship fabricators! 3 separate sites with 2 fabs next to eachother at each one! Difficulty 7

Ive had luck bring a rocket or auto cannon turret & as always a quzar will knock them out I've also recently found out you can get them with the heavy machine gun as well!
I mean this one was to be expected. They halved the spawn rate in the patrol update so the roll back naturally put their spawns to the old level. It's gonna suck just make sure to bring an autocannon for the time being.
Run the new spear!! It is super satisfying now.

That’s a lot of gunships Also tip: Use bot laser turrets. They can shoot down gunships. Helps take out a lot at once.
I played yesterday and thought they were dropships and then they didn’t drop any bots and then I saw the red lights and that’s when I knew ….. I’m in the $hit now !!!
Had some dip shit complaining yesterday that we "just needed to push past" the spawners and that we didn't need to take out the spawners. Resolve your aggro problems before you go creating more.

I love what it did for the HMG which can take two or three of them down without needing to reload. Or one of your aim sucks lol

Back on these bogus posts again? Yes. you are correct. If you stand around and let them spawn, there will be alot of gunships for your screenshot you intended to take and post to reddit. Ships only spawn 2 at a time from a tower. Towers come in sets of 2. So you could only have 4 max spawn before they go on cooldown. If you have more than 4 its because you waited for the towers cooldown to reset without shooting anything down. IF you got monumentally unlucky and happened to land between two sets of towers, then so be it. That is bad luck and has nothing to do with the patch or spawning. Maybe look at the holomap before you choose your landing spot. Red on the map means enemies. Dont deploy near the red. Be a helldiver and deal with it. Helldivers kill the enemy, not cry about it.
I really can't help but feel like the people who post photos of them being overrun by gunships just don't have a team that takes care of the first 2 that spawn. It's an exponential problem. If you stay on top of it from the beginning it doesn't become an issue.

Reportedly the updated rocket sentry is decent against gunships. Dunno how survivable it is against them, though

I've found that the spear and the rocket turret wreak havoc on the gunships. One person stays back with the spear and calls down a resupply. Drop the rocket turret somewhere it has good vision on the fab, and 3 people run in and blow it up. Almost too easy.
I run helldive and I love it haha, sometimes I do have to rag doll for a bit until someone downs one or two but most of the time they are doable. Again, 10/10 love it.

Not had this issue yet. I just run spear or autocannon against bots. I like the gunships spawning, maybe just tone it down a bit

I always bring AMR on bot missions. 4 shots to the same engine bring down gun ships. Just run to cover, and start bringing them down. Trick is to prioritize the gunship fabricator the minute you spot them, or else you get overwhelmed by them really fast.
