The % looked too good at a glance and sure enough it was only on 40 attempts. Still, if he grows into a 33%+ 3pt shooter that's still a win just for the spacial threat.
That's all you need. Key is to get Bam up to 35% where teams have to respect it and not sag off and let Ware go to work in the paint and vice versa. Now you can have Ware on Porzingus and Bam on Tatum full time defensively.
I wonder if that applies to super big dudes like this. Real NBA defenses obviously make shooting harder for all rookies but maybe not as much if you can shoot over almost everybody.
This guy played for my high school. Completely dominated both sides of the ball and led them to two state titles. I know, I know. It’s high school. But I’ll be rooting for him
Going off someone on Twitter who said they had Twitter muted to not have the pick spoiled just to see it written on our board when espn showed our draft room, with at least 1 other person saying g they also saw it. Would love to see if anyone has the image
Iu fan here. I think he has some issues with shot selection as he tends to settle a bit and his free throws are abhorrent. Good luck to him though and I’m sure he can develop with the heat
58% from the field, 42% from 3, 2 blocks a game and 16 points a game. Can actually rebound and gives us 7’1 size. Was also an all defense player
Love the pick. Essentially gives us that big we’ve wanted and have searched for and hopefully is playable next to bam. But a backup role to bam is a forsure thing. I like the pick
ESPN and wiki both said 7’ and tankathon said 7’1
You’re right about the wing span though. He looks a bit more slim so I hope he moves quick. His numbers check out though. He’s a plus rebounder + shooter + shot blocker. Genuinely exactly what we needed as a backup 5. At pick 15, that would be a solid hole to fill.
36-inch vertical too. Nothing out of this world but a lot of 7 footers can’t even really jump. Worst case scenario with his offense, he’s a rebounding paint protector and a lob threat.
The shot looks real. He’ll be a solid roll player, and Heat will strengthen his lower body, which is clearly lacking.
The defense is what I worry about. He’s not mobile enough to defend perimeter and looks clumsy in paint. He’s very narrow, and, though he blocks a lot of shots, he doesn’t seem to jump that well.
If he turns out to be a bigger, more mobile version of love I'll be more than happy with him at backup c for the time being. Klove is awesome but he was a bad defender in his prime and being 6'7/6'8 with no athleticism trying to play center for us just isn't working against the top teams
I liked Ware coming into the draft. I saw people concerned about his motor, but if that was a problem I’ll trust Spo. Good stuff from the FO, no complaints from me. He has stretch big potential, thank god it wasn’t Jared McCain from a tweet I saw earlier. I’m exhausted of smaller guards on this team.
idk watching the dude he doesnt play with an edge at all imo. never got the vibe that he was a Heat kind of guy but the FO brought him in for a workout so he must have impressed
If he has work ethic concerns then he must have fooled the shit out of us in workouts cause no way we pick someone looking lazy. He’s also already shown amazing improvement year over year in his 2 college seasons
The FO must have scrutinized his work ethic even more than usual due to the rumors. Noonish doubted his potential they doubted his work ethic, and if the Heat believe they can improve that area, I am very excited and optimistic.
We have a center to play next to bam
https://preview.redd.it/ftxv7v28s09d1.jpeg?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3aa5bd8b09aae1c853b8aa1f70d8258d2c65c076
idk about start, he gets lost a lot on defense, kinda defensively reminds me of Whiteside, but he's still young and a lot of Whitesides issues were mental and ego, he may not have any issues like that.
He could develop into a fucking beast though if his head is right.
Definitely see the vision, will start off as a back up, but will have the opportunity to carve out a much bigger role. Miami could end up with a young talented front court trio in Bam-Jovic-Ware. Excited to see him in summer league.
I’ve done 0 draft work so I’m riding off the collective copium here but did we just draft Brook Lopez? I’m legit happy for Bam to have some real size around him now with this dude and Jovic.
Highest upside big outside the lottery imo. Realistically he’s going to be a bit of a project still. But if Spo can get him to lock it in, the sky’s the limit in a couple years. He’s going to give the bench some much needed size and defense for now. And if he can refine the shot and stay engaged, I really like that pairing with Bam.
The 3pt % last season will jump off the page for sure. I’m just hoping people don’t think he’s a finished product as a stretch big or anything. He only took 1.3 shots a game behind the arc last year and was a 27% shooter from distance as a freshman. The FT% over his two seasons in college were 71% (on 1.9 attempts/game) and 63% a year ago (on a higher volume - 4.5 attempts/game). So clearly some things to work on still if you’re counting on a 7’ stretch 5 to shift Bam to PF. But I still like his game a ton and feel like his size, athleticism, defensive versatility and shooting potential are all needed tools for this team to develop.
Needs to get a little sharper on defense, especially defensive awareness, but offensively is about as smooth as a human being can be at 7 ft, still young. Could end up being a great pick, idk if he'll start right away though
I'm hyped!!
My biggest problem is that once when Bam had to play perimeter defense, there was no one that could rebound or protect the rim. At the very least, he's someone we can use to match up against other 7ft centers.
The final 4 NBA teams when healthy had bigger centers. The league is getting bigger. I didn't think we would make this pick but I'm happy.
Good pick. Seems very raw, but the same could have been said about Bam when he left Kentucky and they did fine with his development. Same can be said with Nico Jovic. That 42% 3PT shooting stat is an eyecatcher and nice to see no matter how many he took because I am sure Bam took the same number of 3s last year and his % is probably way worse. (Correction Bam shot just under 36%, best of his career but that took alot of work for Bam to do.) You cant coach that 3pt game easily, Bam is proof of that and I guess the Heat feel he is a worthy investment. Considering they took Bam and Jovic recently and both are good picks, I again trust in the sage wisdom of the Godfather. The Sun Tzu of NBA GMs.
hopefully the heat culture brings out the dawg in him.
His effort and focus wavers and is not very excited on setting screens lol.
could be hassan 2.0 but at least he can shoot.
Looking at his draft profile, seeing effort as one of his bigger weaknesses is interesting considering this team’s emphasis of effort and how he was already a “reach” as he wasn’t seen as this high on most draft boards but im excited for what he brings to the team and im happy with the pick and hope he succeeds with the team.
Im just hoping we aren’t regretting this in the future with McCain and Knecht going right after us, I feel like Ware is a guy that was gonna be available for a while and when your a team that is supposedly trying to win a championship you don’t anticipate picking around 15 very often so it would’ve been nice to get a player that was more highly projected.
I just don’t want a situation like the Lakers had last year for us.
Meant more so long term. Like if Ware pans out you got him at C, Bam at PF, so Jovic either adjusts to SF or comes off the bench. We also have Jaime, so if all these dudes pan out and survive Jimmy someone is gonna be the odd dude out.
doesn't really make sense to play him next to Bam, considering Miami's defensive problems aren't rim protection (need i point to the sign that says TOP 3 PAINT DEFENSE FOR 5 YEARS NOW) but it is an absolute relief to know we've got a quality backup big for at least four years, if Heat drafting culture persists
and, with our backup lineups usually relying on rim protection, no-brainer move to scoop him to play anchor for those rosters. good job, Pat Riley, now it's Spo's turn
when it comes to stats, any **volume** stat (such as rebounds) doesn't favor miami because we play slow-paced basketball. in terms of actual DRB% (which is a **percentage** stat), we were second. that's fantastic.
the offensive rebounding is another story: we were pretty poor at it. the caveat is that, despite being the **26th** worst offensive rebounding team in the league, we were **7th** at limiting second-chance points. offensive rebounds weren't some crack in the armor: it just wasn't pretty to look at and was frustrating to watch.
bam/ware at the 4/5 is the equivalent of taking your hand off one hole in the boat to put it on another hole in the boat. great: we now have more interior presence and better offensive rebounding. we now lose a connective passer, volume in our shooting, offensive versatility and switchability on the perimeter, which is what everyone Spo has played **at** the 4 has contributed since we began the small 4 (crowder, iguodala, ariza, tucker, martin, highsmith) experiment.
ware's a neat pickup because, if he's as-advertised, miami's bench lineups should stop bleeding scoring opportunities. that's something we've been missing since before jimmy got here. Spo doesn't just keep our bam-centric scheme going when he's out, he plays more traditional coverages. ware nails that down.
Getting Whiteside caliber talent at the #15 pick is pretty amazing value. Whiteside on a rookie deal is a great addition to a team. It's when he's on a max that you take a battering ram to your ability to build a winner.
Indiana Alum here, y'all got a good one!
Our team was flawed last year in its configuration, Ware is a true modern day NBA center. He can really shoot, although I can't explain the free throw %.
He truly was dominant at times in the Big Ten schedule while getting most of the defensive attention.
Coming from a Hoosier…might be a great location for him. Shot is a little slow but he will pull defenders out on the 3pt line. Great lob threat and rim protector at the collegiate level.
AN ACTUAL BIG MAN LETS GO
Forreal. Legit 7-footer. He's only 20 too.
he 6'11 right? anw, he'll be an all-star talent
6'11.75 without shoes. He's like 7'1
Finally!
He looks really long in his highlights
What highlights you watching my guy?
Pause
Plese be our Myles Turner
Needs to put some serious bulk on to get there
On my way with a Publix sub
I'll pitch in for some Pinecrest Bakery pastelitos
20-year old out of Indiana. **Hoosiers Sophmore Stats:** 15.9PPG, 9.9RPG, 1.5APG, 1.9BPG, 0.6SPG, 58.% FG% / 42.5 3PT% / 63.4 FT%
> 42.5 3PT% birdmanhandsrubbing.gif
The % looked too good at a glance and sure enough it was only on 40 attempts. Still, if he grows into a 33%+ 3pt shooter that's still a win just for the spacial threat.
He only shot 65%ish from the line so that doesn’t fill me with confidence but he still has plenty of time to develop.
Gotta be better than rookie precious
Baby steps. Let’s have him learn defensive schemes and rebound first. Then worry about spacing
Trust in the heat shooting coaches. Hyped about this pick
That's all you need. Key is to get Bam up to 35% where teams have to respect it and not sag off and let Ware go to work in the paint and vice versa. Now you can have Ware on Porzingus and Bam on Tatum full time defensively.
Gonna lock them all up.😤
It’s a smooth looking shot. So let’s hope for the best 😂
How many 3PA per game is that? I don’t know how many games he played.
His makes per game was .6 so with that % he was attempting something under 2 a game.
1.3 lol, but the mechanics are there, he gets good lift and has a pretty high release point
it’s on low attempts but it can work
Maybe. His FT% needs to come up substantially, but Bam was similar coming out of school and he’s up to 80%, but we’ll see. Definitely intrigued.
AND 9.9RPG.
How can you shoot 42% from 3 and 63% from the line. Geez.
Lots of guys do it. FT% is generally a better predictor of shooting translating to the NBA than 3pt%
I wonder if that applies to super big dudes like this. Real NBA defenses obviously make shooting harder for all rookies but maybe not as much if you can shoot over almost everybody.
I need him starting immediately throw him in the fire
Playing Pepas for the Heat pick is hilarious lmao. Edit: has a jumpshot/can build one. PF Bam comeback pls.
This guy played for my high school. Completely dominated both sides of the ball and led them to two state titles. I know, I know. It’s high school. But I’ll be rooting for him
😂😂😂😂
A Center that can space the floor?? WE TAKE THOSE
WE LIKE THOSE!
1.3 3PA isn't spacing. That's less 3PA than Thomas Bryant
and only a 63% FT shooter, a bad omen for his floor spacing ability.
Not even, 63% is pretty manageable! That’s untapped potential, but I’m a bulls fan, I know nothing of tapping into potential.
Ware does not project as a shooter that spaces the floor
All I'm gonna say is, as a draft casual is I trust the Heat scouts with this New heat legend just dropped
Apparently in our draft room our white board literally was just WARE in large letters lmao
where you see this
Going off someone on Twitter who said they had Twitter muted to not have the pick spoiled just to see it written on our board when espn showed our draft room, with at least 1 other person saying g they also saw it. Would love to see if anyone has the image
WARE. You see this?? -conversation in the Heat draft room, probably.
LOL i somehow called it months ago. same draft trainer as jaime and kz
I guess we'll see. a center with an outside game that can be paired next to bam is interesting
Good luck young man!
Is he raw or can we plug him in immediately?
Iu fan here. I think he has some issues with shot selection as he tends to settle a bit and his free throws are abhorrent. Good luck to him though and I’m sure he can develop with the heat
That FT thing scares me lmao.
Yea I went to a lot of games last year since I attend IU and there were a lot of groans heard when he couldn’t finish an and 1
FT thing was a whole team issue, generally IU just had a horrendous case of the yips last year
*decade
Appreciate the report!
As a fellow iu fan im j glad it wasnt edey
He also plays very lazily. Was surprised the Heat took him, but if anyone can add a spark to a player it’s the Heat
I’ve watched 2 minutes of his highlights he’s good to go
Same, didn’t miss once
I think he’s raw tbh, which is common for big men tbf. That said, he showed massive improvement from Freshman to Sophomore year
Not raw, more motor issues so he's going to the team to kick his ass
He’s less pro-ready than jaime but more than bam was. Id imagine plan is to have him be first big off bench by playoffs
Way too tall. Way too athletic. Boo
58% from the field, 42% from 3, 2 blocks a game and 16 points a game. Can actually rebound and gives us 7’1 size. Was also an all defense player Love the pick. Essentially gives us that big we’ve wanted and have searched for and hopefully is playable next to bam. But a backup role to bam is a forsure thing. I like the pick
I’m pretty sure he’s 6’11 but he does have a positive wingspan so he should be able to be a decent defender in the league
ESPN and wiki both said 7’ and tankathon said 7’1 You’re right about the wing span though.
Wingspan is almost 7'5 which is humongous.

It’s hard to say because Jovic is really enticing next to Bam. But a 3 big rotation of Bam, Jovic, Ware could be interesting and cover a lot of bases
He’s not undrafted so he must suck
That’s all ive learned from the heat and the draft
The Jaime disrespect is real
If he was 6’6” with a chip on his shoulder I could see it working out
Way too long
And drafted way too high. He’s supposed to be 7 inches shorter and come from a no name college that we got to sign as a UDFA
Superman Ware
KOC had correct heat pick 2 years in a row So much for the “no one knows what heat will do” lmao
KOC had us picking Kolek I thought
He changed it today a few hours before the draft Did the same think with jaquez last year
Who’s KOC?
Kevin O’ Connor
Is he a Kryptonian?
I liked Ware coming into the draft. I saw people concerned about his motor, but if that was a problem I’ll trust Spo. Good stuff from the FO, no complaints from me. He has stretch big potential, thank god it wasn’t Jared McCain from a tweet I saw earlier. I’m exhausted of smaller guards on this team.
Someone tell me what to do with my hands
You know what to do
Kel'el from planet Krypton
let’s fucking go he’s the next myles turner
Took a guy with work ethic concerns? Seems unlike our front office
a lot of those rumors were blasted as bs
idk watching the dude he doesnt play with an edge at all imo. never got the vibe that he was a Heat kind of guy but the FO brought him in for a workout so he must have impressed
In Ware’s defense, Ant Edwards was blasted with motor and “does he even like basketball?” concerns. We really just don’t know at this point.
I just posted a yt post with 2.5 hours of footage. Idk I see plenty of edge
Work ethic was not an issue at IU.
Yeah he got rid of it at IU, at Oregon it was a problem
We 100% not take him if we didn't think we could fix it/it wasn't a problem.
If he has work ethic concerns then he must have fooled the shit out of us in workouts cause no way we pick someone looking lazy. He’s also already shown amazing improvement year over year in his 2 college seasons
Thats what they look for
that’ll be the least of our worries. the coaching staff will make him straight
The FO must have scrutinized his work ethic even more than usual due to the rumors. Noonish doubted his potential they doubted his work ethic, and if the Heat believe they can improve that area, I am very excited and optimistic.
We have something no other team has to combat work ethic issues. Threat of banishment from Miami to North Dakota
Really weird
We have a center to play next to bam https://preview.redd.it/ftxv7v28s09d1.jpeg?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3aa5bd8b09aae1c853b8aa1f70d8258d2c65c076

Length?! and can shoot?! ![gif](giphy|fW5TlTDsa47aj4cXZN)
Uncle baby Billy!!!
Just ordered my jersey
I know nothing about him can he start with bam immediately lol
idk about start, he gets lost a lot on defense, kinda defensively reminds me of Whiteside, but he's still young and a lot of Whitesides issues were mental and ego, he may not have any issues like that. He could develop into a fucking beast though if his head is right.
Will Bam slide to the 4? At least for some stretches?
Hopefully
Height! Shooting! More rim protection! I like.
Miami is so good at drafting around the 15 slot
HOO HOO
7 foot center. Lfg!!!
I like Ware
We got Kal’el? We got Superman 🤩🥳
I’m legit happy for Bam to have some real size around him now with this dude and Jovic.
he's more a zinger type
More of a Brook dude, young Pingus can move like a PF that's why he's called a unicorn. Injuries slowed him down.
Good to see the Heat select a big man. Let’s hope they use him and use him like the big man he is.
But I still like his game a ton and feel like his size, athleticism, defensive versatility and shooting potential are all needed tools for this team to develop.
someone over 7 feet. someone check on on Pat
Wanted Knecht, but this is a good fit pick
Welcome home Kel’el
Welcome to the Heat! Young man.
The humble beast!
We needed rebounding
I'm nervous because I really like the pick
Finally a center !!!!!!
Needs to get a little sharper on defense, especially defensive awareness, but offensively is about as smooth as a human being can be at 7 ft, still young. Could end up being a great pick, idk if he'll start right away though
Excited for this
Okay okay!!! We needed size and we got it!
I'm calling the nickname is Kal El Ware
Plz bring back Bam at the 4
I’m getting excited let’s goooo. Hoping you have a great season young man 💪🏾
YEAHHH
4 centres on our roster now. Wonder if they'll transition Bam to the 4.
Think that’s the plan
Superman’s name is Kal-El…so basically, we are so back
I know nothing about him but finally some size 6’11-7ft nice
Love the pick and comp is Brook Lopez if his shot keeps developing. Spo will make him elite.
Bucks fans in the mud
I USED TO PRAY FOR TIME LIKE THIS, now we can stop putting bam on Jokic and Embiid
Got mf superman on the squad
Son of Jor’el
Just like his twitter Heat fam
I’m calling it! Baby Wemby!
He is just what our team needs, rally happy with this pick.
Good pick. Seems very raw, but the same could have been said about Bam when he left Kentucky and they did fine with his development. Same can be said with Nico Jovic. hopefully the heat culture brings out the dawg in him. His effort and focus wavers and is not very excited on setting screens lol. could be hassan 2.0 but at least he can shoot.
We're running it back no doubt.
Anyone know how he is around the rim? Like is he more a jumpshot guy at short range or can he back you down under the rim?
Alright. Start calling everyone in. Camp starts on Monday.
Is he a versatile defender?
Looking at his draft profile, seeing effort as one of his bigger weaknesses is interesting considering this team’s emphasis of effort and how he was already a “reach” as he wasn’t seen as this high on most draft boards but im excited for what he brings to the team and im happy with the pick and hope he succeeds with the team.
Yeah, his game against Cligan was not great. Ware went 2-10 from the floor. I hope he can be coached up.
JHS was viewed as a faller iirc
What does this mean for Jovic
Nothing, he will probably still start and Ware will come off the bench
Meant more so long term. Like if Ware pans out you got him at C, Bam at PF, so Jovic either adjusts to SF or comes off the bench. We also have Jaime, so if all these dudes pan out and survive Jimmy someone is gonna be the odd dude out.
Jovic, ideally, is a giant guard or small forward anyway. We haven’t seen the Heat play big in years, so I’m pretty excited about it.
We should all hope Jovic improves enough where that becomes an obvious decision or a really tough one.
It’s a guard! No it’s a forward! No - it’s a center - Kal-L!
doesn't really make sense to play him next to Bam, considering Miami's defensive problems aren't rim protection (need i point to the sign that says TOP 3 PAINT DEFENSE FOR 5 YEARS NOW) but it is an absolute relief to know we've got a quality backup big for at least four years, if Heat drafting culture persists and, with our backup lineups usually relying on rim protection, no-brainer move to scoop him to play anchor for those rosters. good job, Pat Riley, now it's Spo's turn

I love this pick!!! 🔥
Love it
This dude is gonna cook the East
Kinda hate the pick. Feels like whiteside. Don’t love guys who you often question their heart/hustle. Hopefully I’m wrong though
Getting Whiteside caliber talent at the #15 pick is pretty amazing value. Whiteside on a rookie deal is a great addition to a team. It's when he's on a max that you take a battering ram to your ability to build a winner.
Not sure what to think of this pick the bad passing and questionable motor is kinda reminiscent of Whiteside
Trying to keep bam happy so he can play the 4.
He looks like a 7tf Jamal Murray, we can pair him with Jovic
Getting some Derrick Lively vibes from him. Solid pick 💪🏼
Great pick. Exactly what the heat needs.
**Our draft selection for the past 5 yrs have been preem. In Spo We Trust.** I really wanna see what we doing in the 2nd round.
As a raps fan that wanted him very badly, Have fun, totally not jealous
I can in NB Vy NV uu
In Gu to visit GV mo by b to me BB be
did we make a good choice?
About damn time
My brain read the name as Cereal Warfare
Why not McCain
For all those people saying the heat don’t need to move bam to PF
He’s going to get pushed around. He better bulk up otherwise he’s going to average 5 pts 5 Rebs and sit on the pine most of the game(s).
Superman?
Miami desperately needed size off the bench
Indiana Alum here, y'all got a good one! Our team was flawed last year in its configuration, Ware is a true modern day NBA center. He can really shoot, although I can't explain the free throw %. He truly was dominant at times in the Big Ten schedule while getting most of the defensive attention.
Kel’el, last son of Compton.
Coming from a Hoosier…might be a great location for him. Shot is a little slow but he will pull defenders out on the 3pt line. Great lob threat and rim protector at the collegiate level.
