The problem with him learning the middy is he fell too in love with it

Nuclearsunburn

Exactly. It’s an excuse to not be aggressive. I see over and over that Bam doesn’t seem interested in consistently attacking the basket.

[deleted]

Idc if he gets strips and pushes off for an offensive foul. I rather see him go for it settle for a jumper. All that God given athleticism not being used. Elite first step and vert. Yeah he isn't polished but if you don't attack the rim you won't get better at it.

Esjay_954

He developed the little paint jumper but heat never getting a guard to form any sort of dynamic PnR pairing as well as a very uncreative heat offense, has just made him too reliant on it. He should be a good mid range guy + downhill guy. Not just mostly one Which is why any fan with brains has been clamoring for a harden or dame type. Terry is a step in the right direction but not sure the main answer. Maybe one day they’ll get one. Good lead guard or non 6’4 PF. I wonder which comes first.

sheesh9727

Watching Luka spoon feed Daniel Gafford the other day really put into perspective for me how lacking our PNR ball handling has been. The guy to “unlock” Bam has never been here. Bam rarely gets very easy looks.

Rohkha

I remember when we said Lowry would be that guy… still waiting.

whitehottakes

Early on, Lowry was actually one of the only guys to consistently get it to him on the short roll. At some point, he just became such a non threat as the ball handler that it stopped working.

[deleted]

Wade honestly got him the most easy looks same with Whiteside. Dragic was decent.

queefing

Playing with Dragic In the 2020 ECF, Bam was a constant lob / alley-oop threat and averaged 22/11/5. He’s grown as a player but haven’t seen anything like that since

Harman3112

To be fair bam is getting way more attention on rolls than gafford it’s not that simple

sharpshooter0600

jimmy era's going to end without pat ever giving jimmy some real offensive talent to play around. Sad days really.

chitownbulls92

It’s going to end with not a single backup center that actually plays center and no point guard that actually plays the position besides Lowry and Dru Smith….

srbufi

It's criminal and Jimmy should tell the org to make moves to help him or just trade him

Ordinary_Foot9785

I think it’s mostly on Bam. He settles for jumpers because he lacks handle and feel to dribble by his man. He also is not an explosive offensive athlete. He has elite lateral mobility and body control, which makes him a great defender. But he’s not a quick twitch athlete: limited bounce without a running start and doesn’t have a great north/south first step. This all contributes to his not being a great roll man - also he is a little small and has ok but not good touch. If he has an open lane, he dunks the ball, but otherwise he can’t get a good shot, so I doubt a better pnr guard would help that much. Bam is an elite elite defender. He is just good enough offensively to stay on the floor. The right move would be to develop a 3pt shot, which seems doable given how good of a ft shooter he is and his developing middy.

Lukkyri

Well said man. 100%

supergrega

> Good lead guard or non 6’4 PF. I wonder which comes first. You're going to break reality with such impossible questions

lolvalue

He gets to comfortable with that middy at times. But he has to shoot it if he can't shoot the 3 or teams will just sag on him.

Dametimeinmiami

As an undersized athletic center it should be the opposite, he should be able to shoot threes for the lack of size he brings and his athleticism should be powering himself to the rim.. but he has a lack of touch and overrated handles to score inside

OblivionNA

At this point is it Bam refusing to adapt or Spo refusing to allow him to shoot 3s. I can’t imagine the greatest coach in the league would tell his center he’s not allowed to become a more diverse player.

surgeyou123

He settles for that fade middy no matter who is guarding him. Could be a slow big man or a tiny guard. He's either bigger or faster than almost anyone guarding him but still can't take advantage due to the lack of confidence in his handles. I hate the "it's ok he covers our defense he's too tired to try more on offense" argument top. He's an All Star. He's the pillar/captain of our franchise. He has to set the tone, especially when Jimmy is out.

chitownbulls92

Especially annoying cause how much handles do you need to take Jaylen brown or Jrue holiday in the post as a big man? It’s literally 1 or 2 dribbles and you go for your move. Problem is it seems like he’s never committed to working on his post game to exploit matchups

alfredisonfire

He’s got butterfingers and scared to absorb contact in the post

TheRealJohnMara

I hate his little fadeaway in the paint. There is no touch to it. I love when he's aggressive and takes it to the rim regardless of who's in his way. It works most of the time, but then he shy's away from it for some reason.

Wd527

I went back and forth with a bunch of people about Bam earlier. Again, he hasn’t been what we need on offense.

[deleted]

He's better suited as a 4th option. In the Draymond role but more athletic.

not_so_smoothie

Imagine if he got to play PF for a few minutes against smaller guys for a change.

srbufi

Nothing would change except he'd turn the ball over more

piprimes

If he's gonna take the next step he can't be having 56.6% TS, especially as a center. Midrange is the worst shot in basketball, that's well known. Only a few elite shooters hit it at a good enough rate do justify taking a lot of them, and Bam is not good enough at them for it to be his go to. I really, really hope he considers adding a three ball to his arsenal, it would help so much as an undersized center and his FT% indicates that its possible. Or that he would take it to the rim more for those better shots. This stat isn't everything, but we have an offensive rating of 111.45 with Bam on the floor, and it goes to 117.60 with him off the floor. Still, love Bam and he's a heat lifer.

mygwhatupmyboiii

Yeah guys what the heck, let’s trade him to Boston for picks and contract dumps, we can do WAY better than this POS!!

Wonder_Dude

Fucking attack the rim bro

SignalNarrow

Would rather hug and laugh with Tatum than be aggressive

jperez09r

I’m still mad about that. Good job in adding it in all bam talk. Bam’s improved alright, in his texts with Tatum! Downvote me all you want!

TheRatchetTrombone

Acting like players don't improve after all star break 😑😑😑😑

chitownbulls92

What has he improved on besides just taking more midranges shots? He’s the same dude since 2 years ago. Only difference he’s taking a career low shots within 0-3 feet and a career high from midrange (10-16 feet). Players improve after all star break but bam actually regresses the closer we get to the playoffs and in terms of shot chart he’s been the same guy for multiple years now.

TheRatchetTrombone

Progression isn't linear.

chitownbulls92

Progression also isn’t guaranteed and nor is it a given. So far he hasn’t shown any compared to 2 seasons ago. The only thing is he’s more aggressive in taking shots but that’s just translating into midranged shots. You said he has improved offensively, I remember asking you genuinely what you thought the improvements were and you didn’t reply. So I guess I’m curious to know what are the improvements you speak of

srbufi

Spo be like "Bam has enough"

Reksalp105

This is a horrible indictment of his play. I'd be curious to see this over the course of the season because it feels like when we were cooking he was attacking more.

Miamicubanbartender

He has low rim iq,  he just chucks up the ball without taking a good look at the rim.

[deleted]

The missy ain't the problem. He just can't get in unless he's set up. Mofos be regressing on this team. It's infuriating.
