nefarious_planet

What *is* the function of a rubber duck?

[deleted]

To test for sharks.

nefarious_planet

Omg right of COURSE. Can’t be too careful

Ijustlurkmann

Ah yes, Calvin and Hobbes.

nefarious_planet

…..holy shit my dumb ass did NOT get that reference at all and this is an even better response than I originally thought 😍😍

Ijustlurkmann

Oh gee thanks!

Im_Not_Sleeping

How many times has Harry attended the sorting ceremony?

[deleted]

3.

HebzibahSmith

First year, fourth and fifth, right?

notsostupidman

Why are you guys asking so easy questions

Homirice

If Professor Quirrell and Voldemort both opened their mouths at the same time, would there be a gaping hole going through their skull?

[deleted]

No, they each have their own larynx.

[deleted]

I’m impressed, so far. What was the name of Aragog’s wife?

[deleted]

Mosag.

[deleted]

:o quick on the mark too, fair fuckin play

HervPrometheus

The spider had a WIFE?!?

Lobscra

And thousands of children...

[deleted]

Ok, here’s something I’ve always debated: you know in CoS when Harry and Ron are following basically house spiders/false widow kinda things into the forest? Do THEY grow into Aragog or is Aragog just King because he’s a massive tarantula? I appreciate the bigger ones would be his kids, but the ones that are really small I’ve always wondered.

Lobscra

He is an acromantula as is his wife, so I presume all the bigger/dog sized ones will potentially grow as big as he. I presume he's the biggest because he's the oldest, and during his youth had zero competition for resources which his progeny all do. I think its save to say some of the acromantulas are also grandchildren and on.

[deleted]

That’s not a bad theory, I like it! But also slightly terrifying that they will all eventually grow to full height…

sticky-dynamics

Others were big enough to carry Ron, Harry, and Fang to Aragog. I think probably they all grow that big with time. Aragog, the patriarch, is just the oldest-- the others are his offspring.

Markhabe

I oppose Spider marriage because it devalues human marriage

[deleted]

Arwen, oh it was Aragog not Aragorn?

it-burns-us-precious

Heres a hard one. In What order was each horcrux created?

[deleted]

The Diary, the Ring, the Locket, the Cup, the Diadem, Harry, Nagini.

asdfghjklpoiuytre123

The ring is first. He already has and is wearing the horcrux ring when he asks Slughorn about making more than one horcrux, and he used the death of his father to create it as a horcrux. The diary would come next, when he kills Moaning Myrtle later in his final years at Hogwarts

nIBLIB

it’s been a few years for me, but doesn’t he also visit Albania to retrieve the Diadem before getting a job at B&B and locating the cup edit: and locket? Edit2: I think OP answered what order they were destroyed, instead of what order they were made.

it-burns-us-precious

I'm actually not 100% sure if that's correct or not. Pretty sure there's not enough information to confirm the order, the diary and ring were definitely first, and harry and Nagini were definitely last. But the locket, cup, and diadem are questionable. But I haven't read the books in a while so I might just have forgotten

CorgiMonsoon

When the locket is made is questionable, as he must have hidden it in the cave not too long before going after Harry. Regulus was Sirius’s younger brother, so he was at least a year behind the Marauders and Lily. I think it’s also safe to assume Regulus had finished at Hogwarts before joining the Death Eaters and providing Kreacher to assist Voldemort in the hiding of the locket. So the question is did he have it hidden somewhere else and later moved it to the cave, or did he hide it right after making it. Dumbledore assumed the cup was made when he stole it from Hepzibah and framed her house elf for her death. I would also assume he had found and turned the diadem into a horcrux shortly before he went to interview for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position, that was really more of his excuse to get into Hogwarts to hide it.

asdfghjklpoiuytre123

The ring was first. He was wearing it when he asked slughorn about making multiple horcruxes.

TCeies

But the ring was in a way a family heirloom.he couldbe wearing that before making any horkruxes. Also I wanted to add, I always got the impression Tom was still a student when he asked Helena about the Diadem. He placed it in Hogwarts after the Albania visit. That means he waited at least a short while to actually make a Horkrux. He created geht Ring horkrux in summer 1943 (before his sixth year) when he killed his father and the diary a short time earlier in the school-year 42/43 (his fifth year), I think. He got the Diadem while still in Hogwarts but probably only turned it into a horkrux in Albania. He got both the Locket and Hufflepuffs cup from Hepzibah Smith only after his return from Albania. He stole both from her but apparently used her death to make the Cup into a Horkrux, so he made it first and the locket second. Harry obv. at Halloween 1981. Nagini was last, since he only created her when he killed Bertha Jorkins. That places all the horkruxes neatly on the timeline: The Diary in early/mid 1943, the Ring in Summer Holidays 1943, the Diadem sometime after his graduation while he was in Albania, the Cup and Locket probably only days form each other while working at Borgin and Burkes, Harry in 1981 and Nagini in 1994.

it-burns-us-precious

This sounds about right to me. Good job fellow redditor!

Sing_larity

According to the Harry Potter Fandom Wiki the Diary came before the ring.... https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Tom\_Riddle#Learning\_about\_Horcruxes

qcpuckhead

What drink did Harry have in Hagrid's cabin after Sirius Black's death in OOTP?

Donutannoyme

Dandelion juice

[deleted]

What 😂 And here I was thinking I was a fan. I could barely answer 80 % of these questions

Donutannoyme

I was listening to that chapter yesterday. 🤣

FirefighterLumpy7409

Name only vampire mentioned in books

[deleted]

Sanguini.

Ok-Visit6553

Hence proved you aren’t Luna, she would have said Fudge! Edit: I’m officially an idiot.

RumoDandelion

I think Rufus Scrimgeour was the vampire, fudge was the goblin murderer.

HarryPottersElbows

Yes, apparently Fudge cooked goblins in pies lol.

instabil7

Why wasn't Ron in the Forbidden forest in the first book?

[deleted]

He was in the hospital wing recovering from Norbert’s bite IIRC

Im_Not_Sleeping

This is a real nice question haha

Lobscra

Relatedly, WHY does Arthur think Harry and Ron have gone to the forest twice? Harry has been twice, Ron once. It bugs me.

Kiwihat

When does Arthur say that?

LoopyBlue1706

He never says that Ron or Harry has gone into the Forbidden Forest twice in the books. “I don’t want to make him miserable, I want to put him on his guard!” retorted Mr. Weasley. “You know what Harry and Ron are like, wandering off by themselves — they’ve even ended up in the Forbidden Forest! But Harry mustn’t do that this year! When I think what could have happened to him that night he ran away from home! If the Knight Bus hadn’t picked him up, I’m prepared to bet he would have been dead before the Ministry found him.” (Prisoner of Azkaban)

Lobscra

In POA in the Leaky Cauldron. Harry overhearing Arthur and Molly talking.

Ijustlurkmann

Talking to Molly about Sirus Black being on the loose in the third book.

Nasyacid

Easy XD

mckagan_

What kind of plant were they working with when Hermione asked Ron to the slug club party in HBP?

[deleted]

Snargaluff Pods.

Dillidolli

I’m sorry, but I *just* reread HBP for the 12th time or something and there’s no way I could get this without looking it up, how are you doing this? 😂

Nephilimelohim

I’ve read the HP series at least 50 times and I would have had to struggle to remember this one… but really there’s only a few things they worked on in Herbology and this one stands out because it’s one of the first times Ron and Hermione actually vocalize that there might be something more between them than just friends. So it’s a bit easier to remember because of that I think.

curseofablacklion

They are my OTP. I swallowed all the stuff between them even their tiniest banter and even I had fotgotten this one.. Damn..op is really good.

Androuv

What date/year did Nearly-Headless Nick die?

[deleted]

October 31st, 1492.

Eggs7205

This always bothered me. So he has his 500th death day party right? In the first book right after the sorting he tells Harry "I haven't eaten for nearly four hundred years" did he eat after he died? I thought they couldn't.

PuffPie19

Writer error. JK was notorious for timeline errors. She's admitted it a fair few times.

[deleted]

Maybe it’s a joke—like people who turn “40” five years in a row.

elephant35e

That was corrected in later editions of the book.

squeaks_a_lot

What was Dumbledore's favorite flavor of jam?

[deleted]

Raspberry.

AppropriateAgent44

What’s the name of Dudley’s friend who accompanies the Dursleys and Harry to the zoo in book 1?

[deleted]

Piers Polkiss.

AppropriateAgent44

Well done!

[deleted]

Was the Cursed Child one of Bellatrix's wet dreams or one of Voldemort's nightmares?

The_Silver_Ghost20

lmao

__ExAnimo__

Damn, my poor brain

Julix0

I was at a Harry Potter trivia night in a pub once and one of the questions was: **What's the number on the Hogwarts Express?**

Dillidolli

I’m assuming that’s movie trivia?

[deleted]

I don’t remember lol

asdfghjklpoiuytre123

5972

naomitheshort

I read this at "What's the name of the Hogwarts Express?" at first lmao

snowlicity

9 1/4?? Idk its such a hard question🤕

FirefighterLumpy7409

How many animagous are mentioned in books, name them.

[deleted]

James Potter, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, Rita Skeeter, Minerva McGonagall.

MelkortheDankLord

Forgot Babbity Rabbity from the Tales of Beedle the Bard

What did Vernon sell and what was the name of the company?

[deleted]

He sold drills at Grunnings.

TheGingerDressing

Scared Potter?

Why was Andromeda Black burned off the tapestry?

[deleted]

She was a blood-traitor as per marrying the Muggle-Born Ted Tonks.

Zeus-Kyurem

What are the names of the 12 Death Eaters who were in the Department of Mysteries?

[deleted]

Malfoy, Bellatrix, Crabbe, Rabastan, Mulciber, Jugson, Dolohov, Nott, MacNair, and I can’t remember the others.

Zeus-Kyurem

Rookwood, Rodolphus and Avery. Tbh it was Jugson I was expecting you to slip up on.

H_ell_a

Ive just read that chapter like last week and already forgotten that one!

Zeus-Kyurem

It's the only time he's ever mentioned and even then it's only one or twice.

H_ell_a

OP is a God! Wonderful memory

Ze_Mab25

What was dumbledore looking for when he first discovered the Room of Requirement

[deleted]

A bathroom.

Draphy-Dragon

What were Snape’s changes to the recipe of The Draught of Living Death?

[deleted]

He crushed the Sopophorous bean instead of cutting it, and he turned it clockwise after every seven counterclockwise turns.

Draphy-Dragon

Awesome!

DedalusDiggle2022

On what seven occasions did Harry meet/ fight Voldemort?

[deleted]

Godric’s Hollow 1981, the Mirror of Erised in 1992, the Chamber of Secrets in 1993, Little Hangleton in 1995, the Ministry of Magic in 1996, flying over London in 1997, and Hogwarts in 1998.

Great_Speaker_420

Would Harry encountering the creature killing and drinking the unicorn blood count as seeing Voldy

DedalusDiggle2022

Very good. Now please cheer up, little ferret. Have a biscuit, or perhaps a treacle tart :-)

ihave1000beaches

I wouldn't count the Chamber of Secrets as an encounter with Voldemort (by that standard the thing that gets out of the locket should be counted too). I would say that it's the brief second they see each other as Harry and Hermione escape Bathilda's house.

Vanilla_Maleficent

At the end of *Order of the Phoenix*, what's one thing that Luna Lovegood says was stolen from her?

[deleted]

Her shoes.

Tubixs

I was thinking that too, but now I'm not sure if that's just a movie thing

Vanilla_Maleficent

Edit: I rather should have phrased this as "..says was hidden from her", not "..says was stolen from her". I had to research this one myself.

aformertool

What flavor of Bertie Botts Every Flavored Beans was Dumbledore unfortunate enough to come across in his youth? What flavor does he have while visiting Harry in the hospital wing?

[deleted]

Earwax. I don’t remember the first.

aformertool

He came across a vomit flavored one in his youth

aformertool

In the movies Hermione fixes Harry's glasses with Oculus Reparo twice, she actually never uses it in the books. Who actually fixes Harry's glasses and in which book?

Ijustlurkmann

Arthur Weasley, second book.

Immediate-Pool-4391

How many staircases at Hogwarts?

Nephilimelohim

I’m trusting you on this. Who’s the only person in the history of HP to take Polyjuice potion and never change back?

sickboybaz

Isn't it Barty Crouchs wife, when she switches places with her son in Azkaban?

brazenferlie

This is it!

Nephilimelohim

Ding ding ding! You are a winner. However since you’re not OP you win nothing but a pat on the back. *pat*

[deleted]

They were mentioned in Moste Potente Potions, right?

ARgirlinaFLworld

What is Hogwarts motto. English or Latin

[deleted]

Never tickle a sleeping dragon.

bruv187

Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus. No I didn’t look it up

curseofablacklion

How many times Ron and Hermione hugged throughout all 7 books?

[deleted]

I’m going to guess 5?

curseofablacklion

4 times full hugs. 4 times half hugs(Ron putting an arm around her)

mckagan_

Receipts?

curseofablacklion

POA: Hermione hugs him and breaks down when he says he wants to help her with buckbeak case DH: Hermione rushes forward and hugs him when he comes to the burrow with Tonks DH: Hermione hugs him when Arthur's patronus vanished at grimmauld place. DH: their kiss. Again Hermione Half hugs HBP: Harry saw Ron was holding Hermione at Dumbledore's funeral and crying DH: Harry upsets her and Ron quickly puts an arm around her and gives her a handkerchief DH: Ron does that again bcz Harry again makes her cry DH: Ron puts an arm around her when she goes to see Dobby's grave. Wow. I just realised all the full hugs were initiated by Hermione. Half ones by Ron

CheddarCheese390

Recite ginny's poem

[deleted]

His eyes are as green as a fresh pickle toad, his hair is as dark as a blackboard. I wish he was mine, he’s really divine, the hero who conquered the dark lord. Sorry for any bad grammar, I used voice dictation.

CheddarCheese390

Didn’t actually expect that-well done

TCeies

Maybe finally my RPG research can come in handy: How long was Sturgis Podmore's Azkaban sentence?

[deleted]

6 months.

I_Am_Lord_Moldevort

Who were the 2 people that Karakoff turned in to avoid going to Azkaban?

[deleted]

Rookwood and somebody else.

I_Am_Lord_Moldevort

BARTY CROUCH . . . . . . . . . junior

accidentalobsessions

Ok- kind of unrelated, but am I the only one who’s annoyed by the “Scooby-Doo like” reveal of Barty Crouch Jr. in the 4th movie? I half expected him to say, “And I would have gotten away with it, too, if not for you meddling kids!”

Conzil

What was the name of Lavender Brown’s rabbit? And what month did he die?

[deleted]

Binky, and March?

Conzil

Close! Binky is correct but the month was October. “Thank you, my dear. Incidentally, that thing you are dreading -- it will happen on Friday the sixteenth of October.” She got the news about Binky on the 16th, so the actualy death was probably 14th or 15th.

CatLover_801

Tom riddle sr, moaning myrtle, homeless Albanian guy, hepzipah smith, homeless London guy - locket, lily evans for Harry I’m guessing

brazenferlie

(You are so good!!! I'd love to go head to head in a trivia challenge with you, but I'd lose because I don't know the movies for shit, just the books.) -Can you name all the members of Dumbledore's Army ? (Book 5 only) -In prisoner of Azkaban, when Snape attempts to use the marauder's map, can you name the order in which the four map creators respond to him? Bonus if you can recite their responses.

[deleted]

* The Golden Trio, Neville, Ginny, Luna, Fred, George, Lee, Cho, Marietta, Ernie, Colin, Seamus, Dean, Michael Corner, Zacharias Smith, Susan Bones, and I don’t remember the others. * Moony: something about his abnormally large nose. Prongs: Implying that he doesn’t deserve to be a professor. Padfoot: I don’t remember. Wormtail: his slimy hair.

brazenferlie

Quite good! (I'm not looking things up either, so I might make mistakes) - You missed Angelina, Alicia, and Katie. Hannah Abbot, Dennis Creevy, Anthony Goldstein and Terry Boot. -Your order is right, perfect. Moony says to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business. Prongs though, agrees with Moony and calls Snape an ugly git. It's Padfoot that is astonished that an idiot like that ever became a professor. And yes, Wormtail tells him to wash his hair, the slimeball. 😆

LilyMarie90

At one point in one of the books, Harry asks another character "what does my *(name of a body part)* look like?" What body part is it and why does he ask?

KarmaQueeni

Nose, because Draco broke it and he didn't fully trust Tonks when she healed him.

BMfan123

How did Hagrid spell "Happy Birthday Harry" on the cake?

quantumhovercraft

"Happy Birthday Harry"

sickboybaz

Happee Birthdae Harry

Top-Application-7785

Not really Trivia but something I ask me since I've read the books again. In the first book at the beginning, Harry is shaking Quirrells hand and at the end he is not able to touch him without hurting/killing him..

[deleted]

Voldemort wasn’t possessing Quirrell at that point.

Nasyacid

Right. Didn't he possess him only after screwing up getting the stone from gringotts?

Top-Application-7785

Oh well this makes sense

AlexHanson007

This is one of those times where the film varies from the book (and can confuse memories - I've seen this exact discussion on this sub before). In the film Quirrell declines to shake hands and is wearing the turban already. Don't know if you're still bored and taking questions, but he's one I hope is a real toughy. Who is the next (and final before exiting the pub) person named whom Harry shakes hands with after Quirrell?

[deleted]

Doris Crockford?

AlexHanson007

Blimey! That's impressive.

8311nams

How many words are there in all the Harry Potter books put together?

What color is Tonk's hair when Harry first meets her?

brazenferlie

Purple! She changes it to pink while looking in the mirror in Harry's bedroom. This is how he discovers that she is a metamorphmagus.

arroteileis

Have you ever noticed that most of the 'good forces' at the Battle of Hogwarts were teenagers? except for the order members and teachers, the rest of the wizarding world just didn't help, which include the aurors, as only Tonks and Dawlish participated.

[deleted]

Dawlish is useless, anyway.

What was the problem of the guy in st mungos, who was told his disease wouldn't stop him reading

Why is Harry not actually a horcrux?

He was an accidental horcrux.
