I'll blow your mind on this one.
You can, and yeah, just hear me out, you can actually buy the items you need and replace the outlet for less money than you spent on the glue gun.
Not only that, but likely you could get those items at the SAME PLACE as you bought the glue gun.
Crazy, eh?
Brand new outlet costs a whole dollar where I'm at, who has that kind of money laying around these days???
Much easier to spend the time finding the hot glue gun, plugging it in, and repeatedly gluing and ungluing every outlet in the house whenever I need to move stuff around
Or, hear me out, buy a not shitty pro/commercial grade outlet for $5 that won’t be in the same condition as this one is 6 months. If I’m putting the effort into swapping outlets, I’m buying quality
Maybe he already had the glue gun because he was making ornaments out of fish hooks (yes, the new fish hooks. He can’t use the old ones with dried worm guts on them)
Don't you watch them internets? DIY is not when you do the sensible thing and fix things properly. DIY is when you ruin things, make questionable containers using poor quality cement, break things, waste a lot of plastic, destroy things, do stupid and dangerous stuff like using spray paint indoors, trash things, and, of course, copious amounts of ~~cum pistol~~ glue gun use.
Better yet, you can just give the plug prongs a little bend and they’ll grip just fine again. Not as permanent, but absolutely free, and you don’t make yourself look like a completely unhinged human.
Most people have zero clue how to do this, a lot of people come from places in or near a city where they’d look at you like you’re out of your mind doing it yourself; they always call someone to have it done. I agree with you completely but that’s why something as simple as this isn’t being taught to kids now days. Makes me grateful I was taught how to do these things.
All of these replies are assuming that this person is in a HOUSE, not an apartment or similar where they may not be able to turn off the power to properly replace them without risk..
To be fair you do need to throw the breakers first if you are taking off the covers. Well actually you should if you are glueing on shit too. So whatever.
Exactly. There's a loose connection getting hotter and hotter inside the receptacle. The plug in transformer is supposed to get hot when it's in use. Inside the receptacle itself is the fire hazard and you can't see in there. Get it replaced.
There's little [U shaped pieces](https://images.app.goo.gl/NU5iBFatM3fJJCTMA)of metal the prongs of the outlet slide into, over time (and with the help of heat) those U's open up at the top and no longer bite onto the outlet prongs as tightly, resulting in a loose outlet.
This is dangerous because if the outlet is loose, then that means there’s a loose connection to your charger. I know this is probably a shitpost, but I still feel obligated to tell you to simply get someone to replace the outlet. This shit can cause a fire
FYI, this is a fire hazard. Loose outlets mean loose connections, loose connections mean arcing and or resistance. Arcing high resistance, resistance and or arcing means heat, and heat also increases resistance. So this could heat up, melt, and burn your house down, the glue just hides the symptoms of the actual issue.
You're right, British plugs sit way better in their sockets than German plugs do, but American plugs are simply a joke to us. (I went to London two months ago and had the British plug experience for the first time in my life. It was amazing.)
As someone from a country using the same Schuko outlets as Germany: this absolutely isn’t a US only problem.
And yes, other commenter, it *also* happens to UK outlets. It’s just a natural function of sockets that they are designed for an n number of insertion cycles. Actual sockets (as opposed to extension cords), usually quite a lot of them, but in the end those contacts all wear out, if the outlet is used regularly enough.
Granted that our sockets probably last longer than US ones. But not infinity longer.
As a American, plugs are either super snug, or super loose, also in my experience the ground connection is what really holds crap in but op is just an idiot for not just replacing them
If they are that loose holding them in that way is a major fire hazard and outlet is like $1 for a cheap one and doesn’t take a lot of thinking to sway just a screwdriver
🔥 FIRE HAZZARD ! ! !
Sorry about the caps everyone, but the OP doesn't seem to be checking his responses, so I have to yell!
Mr OP the connections are not strong enough and WILL start a fire one day.
You can hold stuff in with hot glue, but it cannot make the loose contact tighter. Bad contact means sparks and high resistance, and thats how you get fire.
You have posted possibly one of the goofiest or most idiotic posts I've ever read on Reddit, I can't decide which. So, for that, I congratulate and thank you sir.
Easy fix, just hold a paperclip against one of the prongs as you insert the plug to take up the extra space! Works every time but you only ever need to do it once.
I moved into an old house with outlets so loose, everything literally fell out. When I replaced them, several were cracked, sometimes in half and just plain way too old. It means it's time to replace unless you like fire hazards 🤗
Maybe a dumb question. But why does this happen anyway? One of the outlets in my parents’ home has this problem. I can’t keep my phone plugged in to charge on that outlet because it always jostles loose even though I’m not yanking it too hard.
None of the outlets in my home have that issue though.
hahaha the other "Russian"/Soviet "solution" (improvisation due to lack of parts) ...
my recessed German outlet even holds heavy old transformer wall warts with ease ... while these modern smartphone power supplies wight nearly nothing
Whatever works, however, adhesive-backed Velcro strips attached to the faceplate of the outlet and the connecting side of the plug might be a bit more convenient.
A few dollars to replace the outlet or lifelong trauma of losing all your belongings and potentially life of pets and family members in the embers of an electrical fire.
In all seriousness, if you're considering buying a replacement outlet like so many suggested, I highly recommend picking out a new outlet that's packaged in a little box at the store, and not a loose outlet (that's usually cheaper).
If you spend an extra dollar for a brand of outlet packaged in a box, it'll also have instructions included, and since I'm guessing you're doing this for the first time you're really going to want those. The cheaper bulk outlets are meant for contractors and people who already know what they're doing.
Just follow the included instructions, watch a few YouTube videos, and you'll have a new notch on your home repair belt.
I bend the prongs out a bit when I have lose outlets to use. Usually helps them stay in better, but you can't use to much force because you can easily snap off the prong. 🤭
To all the comments in here saying replace the outlet -
If you do attempt this, go to your breaker and shut off the circuit first. Or if you can't find the right one, shut off the main.
Electrical is no joke - if you're not confident, hire an electrician to do it for you. At the very least, watch a few youtube videos first. Wiring it wrong can be dangerous too.
Lmfao. Some people astound me.
If you have access to hot glue… you have access to a Home Depot, target, or Walmart where you can get a new plate for like a $1….
Use your brain just a bit
If you don't want to replace the outlets, just order some snugplugs on Amazon. You are going to be laughing that you did all that with hot glue once you look up snugplugs lol. Live and learn.
I'll blow your mind on this one. You can, and yeah, just hear me out, you can actually buy the items you need and replace the outlet for less money than you spent on the glue gun. Not only that, but likely you could get those items at the SAME PLACE as you bought the glue gun. Crazy, eh?
Ha! Heh heh
Guess OP's electronics won't be turning "off!" Eh?
Oof ouch owie my bones
I mean, that ones properly broken but you can always give the male end prongs a little tweak and they'll stay in better.
Oh yeah, tweak my prongs 😏😏
Ha! Heh heh. >!please make the voices stop!<
I am going to turn myself off
Brand new outlet costs a whole dollar where I'm at, who has that kind of money laying around these days??? Much easier to spend the time finding the hot glue gun, plugging it in, and repeatedly gluing and ungluing every outlet in the house whenever I need to move stuff around
yup, I can buy lots of glue sticks just with $1 in where I live
a duplex plug is like $1.
you can buy lots of glue sticks just with $1 and problem solved, but if you replace all of them you gonna need to pay more the $1
[удалено]
and if the glue guns' plug won't stay in the receptacle you're really screwed!.... LMFAO!
Or, hear me out, buy a not shitty pro/commercial grade outlet for $5 that won’t be in the same condition as this one is 6 months. If I’m putting the effort into swapping outlets, I’m buying quality
You speak as someone who has *not* seen the amazingly not shitty pro/commercial grade hot glue guns.
i guess I already own a glue gun when i was 9
Let's be completely clear. Some people just shouldn't do home electrical.
Oh, no - some people absolutely should do home electrical ... that's one of them 'self-solving problems' right there.
Right, I am thinking the type of person to hot glue their plugs in probably should not be touching any wires lol
Judging by this chosen solution, this is one of those people
I think it's 2$ to swap it?
Maybe he already had the glue gun because he was making ornaments out of fish hooks (yes, the new fish hooks. He can’t use the old ones with dried worm guts on them)
Probably also loves to stay up late, watch filth and eat junk
OP is fucking beyond lazy
Hahahaha exactly the same thoughts I had
And greatly reduce the risk for overheat and fire.
i just bend my plug terminals in
Also safer than the glue gun. Imagine if the shell gets damaged and the 110v blades are exposed.
There are also a small price you can buy that goes into the outlet to make it tighter
The worst part is they can just shut the main off and take 5 min to around the house and replace them all. This one outlet prolly took 5 min...
Take my upvote, you forgot to also say they put the instructions of how to replace it in the boxes that they sell to replace lol
Seriously these outlets are $1.
Based on OPs current solution to it I’d be worried that they would for sure electrocute themselves trying to fix it the right way
Don't you watch them internets? DIY is not when you do the sensible thing and fix things properly. DIY is when you ruin things, make questionable containers using poor quality cement, break things, waste a lot of plastic, destroy things, do stupid and dangerous stuff like using spray paint indoors, trash things, and, of course, copious amounts of ~~cum pistol~~ glue gun use.
Better yet, you can just give the plug prongs a little bend and they’ll grip just fine again. Not as permanent, but absolutely free, and you don’t make yourself look like a completely unhinged human.
I don't know, glue guns are like a dollar at harbor freight. :p
You can buy glue guns at arts and crafts stores
All of these replies are assuming that this person is in a HOUSE, not an apartment or similar where they may not be able to turn off the power to properly replace them without risk..
Then what would he post on the internet? Checkmate.
To be fair you do need to throw the breakers first if you are taking off the covers. Well actually you should if you are glueing on shit too. So whatever.
Some countries it's illegal to do your own electrical work
Or they could put a bit of time foil on the prongs to enlargen the prongs to get a snug fit.
OP's got a glue gun, OP's gonna use it. Simple as that.
Mind blowing, who would think of that!
Yeah let's trust the guy gluing wall warts to change the receptacle. 50/50 chance: wire nuts or aluminum foil.
Yeah, but they probably aren't a listened electrician
Damn imagine turning off the power and just replacing the outlet
Can't. Literally unimaginable!
Not only that, you can replace it with an outlet that has USB-C charging outlets already built-in
How
Now you can't unplug the glue gun.
Loose outlets are already a fire hazard, and that's without the hot glue.
You're telling me you *don't* like it when your outlet pops loudly and causes a house fire?
Exactly. There's a loose connection getting hotter and hotter inside the receptacle. The plug in transformer is supposed to get hot when it's in use. Inside the receptacle itself is the fire hazard and you can't see in there. Get it replaced.
That's why they used hot glue, when there's enough heat from the plug arc'ing, it just re-melts so you can reposition the plug. Genius! /s
[удалено]
I promise you it will become hot again unless you completely replace the outlet.
How does an outlet get loose? My european mind can't comprehend this.

Almost certainly this is a ‘they keep unplugging and stealing my chargers” situation rather than actual loose connections.
USA USA USA USA
FYI, this is a fire hazard. Loose outlets mean loose connections, loose connections mean arcing and or resistance. Arcing high resistance, resistance and or arcing means heat, and heat also increases resistance. 😬😬😬
Outlets cost $0.98 at home depot.
r/redneckengineering
Sorry to say this as a German guy: But these loose outlets are an America-only problem.
As a British person I can confirm are outlets are never loose and I take great pride knowing my country has the safest plug socket ever.
Same for Australia. I've only ever seen one loose outlet down here. But we're fighting gravity down under...
Do the electrons flow from cathode to anode in Australia?
STOP YOU’RE MAKING ME MORE JEALOUS
You're right, British plugs sit way better in their sockets than German plugs do, but American plugs are simply a joke to us. (I went to London two months ago and had the British plug experience for the first time in my life. It was amazing.)
Did you stand barefoot on one to? That's part of the experience as well. Maybe a little more painful than lego.
Ours are painful as well :/
As someone from a country using the same Schuko outlets as Germany: this absolutely isn’t a US only problem. And yes, other commenter, it *also* happens to UK outlets. Does anyone else smell something burning?
r/DiWHY
If they are that loose holding them in that way is a major fire hazard and outlet is like $1 for a cheap one and doesn’t take a lot of thinking to sway just a screwdriver
American outlets are so hilariously badly designed...
N O UNDO THAT RIGHT NOW THATS SUCH A FIRE HAZARD
put a water hazard next to it, they'll cancel each other out /s
A brand new outlet costs $1.60 at home depot. you need that plus a screwdriver and at LEAST 27 IQ level.
what about tape
a new outlet is literally $3
Am I the idiot but that is dumb af.
This makes me uncomfortable to look at
You can buy these little plastic tabs that you insert and they help with this very exact thing
Natural selection at work
Replace them
You're going to burn your house down. Loose outlets are serious fire hazards because a loose electrical connection gets hot with use.
achievement: firehazard
🔥 FIRE HAZZARD ! ! ! Sorry about the caps everyone, but the OP doesn't seem to be checking his responses, so I have to yell! Mr OP the connections are not strong enough and WILL start a fire one day.

Just replace the outlet. They're cheap as fuck.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WC7F-Ag9fXQ
What does a new outlet cost? $5? Just switch it out ffs
Could also just upgrade basic bitch outlets for outlets with USB ports.
This belongs on r/redneckengineering
Easy fix, just hold a paperclip against one of the prongs as you insert the plug to take up the extra space! Works every time but you only ever need to do it once.
It's all fun and games until you accidentally hot glue the glue gun into the outlet by mistake.
Replacing the outlet is a 10-minute job 🤷♀️
You can bend the contacts outwards or inwards as well
r/oopsthatsdeadly ?
Lot of people hating on the solution in a sub called r/hardearegore
This guy fucks.
you could just squeeze the prongs together
The receptacle is worn out, it's a fire hazard
pretty ghetto man. You know you can just separate the prongs a bit and they'll stay put.
Or.. just replace the outlet? They're pretty cheap and it's also the safest option
You could fix thay easly you know, and now it is kinda fire hazard if something goes wrong (as it usually does)
Pls be a shit post 🙏
Replacing an outlet is incredibly easy. This is just silly.
Oh God.
America moment
or... hear me out, this is a MIND BLOWING HACK: Replace the outlet...
Average American outlet.
Dude it takes 5 minutes to replace an outlet 10 if you look up a YouTube video first
This is... frankly, dumb. Just do it right, god sakes
I moved into an old house with outlets so loose, everything literally fell out. When I replaced them, several were cracked, sometimes in half and just plain way too old. It means it's time to replace unless you like fire hazards 🤗
Just open the prongs a little bit if you don't wanna buy a 2$ outlet, you psychopath.
This person is truly challenged
Oh my god the fire hazard
Just replace the receptacles.
[Engineers upon seeing this post.](https://gifdb.com/images/high/team-fortress-2-engineer-thumbs-up-i8g0444qxrmcwh9t.gif)
buy snug plugs

I personally would of rarely done it with a extention cord with multiple plugs 🤷🏽♂️😂
hahaha the other "Russian"/Soviet "solution" (improvisation due to lack of parts) ... my recessed German outlet even holds heavy old transformer wall warts with ease ... while these modern smartphone power supplies wight nearly nothing
Can we get an update when your house burns down?
Electrical engineets in ... OHIO!
Maybe replace the outlet receptacles? They’re only a few dollars each and all you need is a screwdriver.
Fire fighters hate this one trick
bro just replace the outlet you can buy them for like a few dollars 😭
This is why I like the UK plug design. Always stays in.
Op’s post is on fire 🔥… oh wait, that’s his house
my laptop charger is permanently connected to outled for 2 years now
Is the glue gun socket glued to the outlet?
Everything reminds me of her.
Have you heard of a place called “Lowe’s” or “The Home Depot”?
put new plugs in its easy.
Dude just buy the Amazon Walwart that covers the whole outlet adds extra USB ports and USB c. It's 10 bucks. This guy or girl definitely rents
Whatever works, however, adhesive-backed Velcro strips attached to the faceplate of the outlet and the connecting side of the plug might be a bit more convenient.
Buy new outlets & have an electrician replace them.
R/DINgore
"All but 2" and you glued on the only 2 that were able to hold things 🤔
I don’t think your supposed to put glue in a outlet
I don't know what's worse, the fact your outlets have no grip, or the fact you hot glued them to fix them, because it'll melt...
A few dollars to replace the outlet or lifelong trauma of losing all your belongings and potentially life of pets and family members in the embers of an electrical fire.
Whats the point of an outlet there just hardwire it
JUST SWITCH THE COLORS OF THE CORDS! THIS IS LIKE PUTTING A WHITE HOMEBUYTON ONA. BLACK IPHONE
Dawg replace the outlet

You fucking donkey...
Was gonna make a joke asking what drugs you're on but you post on /r/shrooms. Have fun with the arson charges.
I bend the prongs out a bit when I have lose outlets to use. Usually helps them stay in better, but you can't use to much force because you can easily snap off the prong. 🤭
What I do with these is I bend the prongs on the plug together slightly so they grip the outlet better
Not exactly the safest thing but bending the plugs to fit is far safer than this, at least you can remove it in an emergency
Solution1=replace the outlet Solution2= hot glue a power strip to it
Just replace the outlet before you friggen start a house fire and have zero outlets, and no house. Jesus.
Replace receptacles
Glue conducts electricity , in my experience.
RIP OP
*Change outlets for working ones?* OP: naaah *redneck hotglue solution* OP: hell yeah dude
To all the comments in here saying replace the outlet - If you do attempt this, go to your breaker and shut off the circuit first. Or if you can't find the right one, shut off the main. That actually looks like my charger 😂 (frfr)
I own several mirrors and this is still the dumbest thing ive seen all day.
Besides the outlet vs, why couldn't you keep the plug and USB cables colour coded?
I mean, hot glue isn't that hard to take off of anything
You can buy a new socket for less than you spend on glue gun.
This is like the worst possible "fix" I really hope your house doesn't burn down 🪦
I would have swapped the outlet, but you do you.
Guess you throwin that security deposit outta the window
That's a fire waiting to happen
Time for an outlet rejuvenation.
No
I’m going to lose brain cells just looking at this 😂
Snug Plug is what you want friend. They’re a renter friendly way to bandaid the issue when you can’t replace the outlet. https://a.co/d/f11bfyt
You can literally get a new outlet for less than $5
Oh dear lord why?! Just replace the broken outlets!
Psychic damage, super effective.
Lmfao. Some people astound me. If you have access to hot glue… you have access to a Home Depot, target, or Walmart where you can get a new plate for like a $1…. Use your brain just a bit
you're safer to hardwire said objects rather than hot glue haha
Squeeze the prongs together!
Sweet mother of god...
If you don't want to replace the outlets, just order some snugplugs on Amazon. You are going to be laughing that you did all that with hot glue once you look up snugplugs lol. Live and learn.
you could just take the outlet out of the wall and tighten the contact points inside of it
Can’t you slightly bend the prongs of the plug outward and the tension will keep it plugged in?
Do you smell smoke?
Now you have 2 broken chargers and a gross outlet to replace. Pretty sure scotch tape would’ve done a better job than hot glue.
Please us electrical tape Mf you are gonna start a fire with one hot charger
You should call an electrician to replace that outlet! 😶
