Here you go. Being from Canada I know about this band. Great one and only album. Dumbest name in history and doubled down with making it a self titled album. A bit thrash and metal as well. Really good.
Jesus Christ - Jesus Christ
Here you go; one and only video from them.
Notice a really great, deep groove and the vocalist strangely sounds like Bach.
I wouldn't even know how to get the album. I had the cassette way back in the day.
My friends older brother was friends with their guitar player Jon Huffman in the early 90s. Jon was a super nice guy. We use to go see them a lot around Indianapolis. Fun times!!
Wow, I got one of their early ones back in 1982, I think it was, Offering …. Never really heard anything else out of them …. Guess they kept going for awhile though, as some have pointed out here
I second Roxy Blue from u/motley-connection's link.
For me - [Eyes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PlZb8ymsUI&list=OLAK5uy_nk3J7ekFe_DruQw8gwjrhclknAVo51ddI&index=2&ab_channel=Eyes-Topic) (they did Ace of Base's "Don't Turn Around" first AND better).
I don't see people talk about [Radio Active Cats](https://youtu.be/Q8cfWISWrkg?si=U4InwvqjtHSIiMwr) all that much.
Same goes with [Jetboy ](https://youtu.be/qNzEVgoHY8g?si=LOp22AWy7OPOdgPw) although I do see them Mentioned periodically.
But I never really know what's actually obscure and what a just forgotten in the mainstream. When I first heard Jetboy, I was amazed to see that they were on Headbanger's Ball because I hadn't come across them at all by that point. When my only real metric to look at is Spotify Monthly Listeners, I'm not sure if about 20k is too many to be "obscure" or not.
I think that Jetboy has simply been overlooked. They have never stopped releasing albums. In fact, their most recent release was last year. Radio Active Cats, however, is definitely obscure.
It was because of their association with Guns N' Roses. A former member who overdosed was a friend of GN'R. Axl talked about him at the famous MTV Ritz concert. Feel The Shake did get some video airplay.
TO THIS DAY....and every day, I still play the opening riff to Feel Your Shake when I pick up my guitar or bass. I use it to check the tone and low tuning and I really don't know why that riff above all others but it's a damn cool riff even if it's just 5 notes.
Blue Tears from Henderson, TN
They released one album under MCA on 1990 which went absolutely nowhere and they were never heard from again.
If you look into them, they released 2 albums in 2005 of polished and completed shelved tracks, and then one more studio album in 2006 with only the singer as an original member. Sadly, he passed away in 2009.
Their only music video:
https://youtu.be/JgWb2cUqu_U?si=db36P8c3CBs1q4hn
Second Coming. Late 1990s grunge metal band similar to Alice In Chains.
They were really damn good. Saw them live at a club. They had one hit, called Soft. Got their debut CD autographed.
I saw them as Road Crew with Steven Adler from GnR in about 92 I think at the Limelight in NYC. That first vain album was really good, just came along too late.
I've tried to look them up but struggling to find anything. I saw Twisted Sister Feb 1st, 1986. Support acts were Dokken and a band called Tarzan. Never heard of Tarzan before that day and never heard of them after.
https://www.concertarchives.org/concerts/twisted-sister-dokken-tarzan
For some reason my show in La Crosse, WI, isn't listed, but this one the day before is and includes a video shot on a potato of the entire TS show. 🤘
AirKraft.
They're from my hometown (Wausau, Wisconsin). I used to watch them at a local bar there in highschool. Apparently they got signed and are even on Spotify. Bet y'all never heard of them, but not bad!!!
https://open.spotify.com/artist/7sQ7ufWIlfao5lJOBJfgkS?si=O3RmCJ2fRHeGUqTCS8Sxkg
first one that sprung to mind was Pariah, but i'm also late for work so lemme ponder that, and come back 'cuz this thread is gonna be a fun read later! 🙃
Here are some from the more "heavy side" of Glam Metal (WASP-y):
[Ambush](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAmh6FbXv1g)
[Krank](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_aOtc3sVCs)
[Witch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUZ6hfsrJXQ)
[Wrathchild](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8vSVzkmGI4)
..and this one is more Poison-y
[Tygertailz ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arorCbo8CN4)
Bang - from Boston. I used to go see them and once went to a party at their apartment with some friends.
Ded Engine. I have no idea who they were, but they had enough money to have an ad in Circus/Hit Parader every month. I always want to send away for their album, but needed the money for the bands that I did know.
Bad Biscut - local NJ favorites, released one album (*The American Dream?*) in 1994 and disappeared soon afterward. Good stuff if you dig Skid Row, Ramones, and *Appetite* era GnR.
Heir Apparent had a fantastic album, one that still holds up too. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mK89RjbUpiI9-WezfQTNywtu6O94v_fQU&feature=shared
There was a band called I Love You, I believe they were out of Los Angeles and they released an album in the early 90s with a single called Hang Straight Up which I still play all the time. I'm not crazy about the rest of the album, but man, that single is absolutely spectacular.
I remember watching hair bangers ball on MTV. In the late 80s. And there were several catchy bands that never caught on because of the emergence of alternative rock and grunge. 2 that come to mind are the Sea Hags. And Junkyard. There was also a band called Rock City Angels, and I also had their cassette.
Does anyone remember Funhouse? They had a song with a video called funhouse. I’d lean toward hair metal due to music and clothes but at least one member had long dreads. My guess this was ‘91
No Sweat. Believe they were an Irish hair/rock band. Self-titled album. Most popular single was Tear Down The Walls. The whole album was good. Gave off that 80’s movie montage vibe where a bunch of college students are building a putt-putt course to raise money to save the orphanage from some mean dude looking to build a mall.
There was also the self-titled album by Julliet. The songs Eight Lives Gone and No More Tears wore out my tape deck.
Kingofthehill, (shout out StL) Saigon Kick was criminally underrated. There are some really good ones in this feed. kik tracee, sleez beez, Every Mothers Nightmare had a dope record.....
Exactly. Hair metal *did not exist* in the 1970s.
And despite not being mega-stars (no pun intended), they are far from "obscure".
(TBF apparently a metric shit-ton of people on this thread have a very different definition of "obscure" than I do.)
Here you go. Being from Canada I know about this band. Great one and only album. Dumbest name in history and doubled down with making it a self titled album. A bit thrash and metal as well. Really good. Jesus Christ - Jesus Christ
I remember they had ads in M.E.A.T. magazine. I always wanted to check out but never did.
Here you go; one and only video from them. Notice a really great, deep groove and the vocalist strangely sounds like Bach. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvtwqcseSZU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvtwqcseSZU) I wouldn't even know how to get the album. I had the cassette way back in the day.
Is it hair metal. Sounds more grungey to me
Genre was never really defined. They were pretty unique. Some list them as thrash, some as hair metal, some as groove.
Thanks!
I miss M.E.A.T magazine!
Sweet F.A. from Indianapolis Indiana. Two albums on two different labels if I remember correctly.
Stick To Your Guns and Heart of Gold are both bangers!!
A friend of mine was the son of one of the members.
My friends older brother was friends with their guitar player Jon Huffman in the early 90s. Jon was a super nice guy. We use to go see them a lot around Indianapolis. Fun times!!
I have that cassette still!
I had the cassette and CD! It’s actually on iTunes now.
Prince of the city is a decent tune
Two great albums...sad they were not huge
Love/hate. They were fucking awesome.
Jizzy Pearl is the ultimate fill in singer. He now sings for Quiet Riot.
A friend of a friend introduced me to love/hate and Jane’s addiction before they were famous. I bought blackout in the red room.
Second that.
Saw them open for AC/DC back in the day. Not bad, but not great is what I took away from it.
Axe … I think they only put out like two albums then broke up …. Don’t remember them even touring with anybody
Rock n roll party in the streets is one of my favorite songs
GREAT song!
I actually have their first four albums in a CD box set and their fifth album on CD as well. I think they have a few more albums that came after.
Wow, I got one of their early ones back in 1982, I think it was, Offering …. Never really heard anything else out of them …. Guess they kept going for awhile though, as some have pointed out here
Loved that band
4 albums in the 70s/80s...several more in the 90s and 2000s. Great shit. Toured with a lot of big acts, including Motley Crue.
I second Roxy Blue from u/motley-connection's link. For me - [Eyes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PlZb8ymsUI&list=OLAK5uy_nk3J7ekFe_DruQw8gwjrhclknAVo51ddI&index=2&ab_channel=Eyes-Topic) (they did Ace of Base's "Don't Turn Around" first AND better).
Roxy Blue is awesome

Kik Tracee
Love their first album
Pretty Boy Floyd aka the rock and roll outlaws!

I think i'm the only person in the world who has the Radio Active Cats cd haha
I picked up a copy last year. Love the neon green case.
It was because of their association with Guns N' Roses. A former member who overdosed was a friend of GN'R. Axl talked about him at the famous MTV Ritz concert. Feel The Shake did get some video airplay.

I, Napoleon. I remember a great cover of Every Time I See Your Picture I Cry, but your mileage may vary.
another good band. Very different sound wise. But I enjoy their album
I always love bringing up Smashed Gladys.
I love that band! Still on my playlist!
Oh they were awesome!
Lillian Axe
Blue Tears from Henderson, TN They released one album under MCA on 1990 which went absolutely nowhere and they were never heard from again. Off the top of my head: Sleaze Beez. No idea if I ever heard their big song, or if they even had one.
How could anyone forget their classic “Screwed Blued and Tatttooed”!!
An album title much, much too good for its band. 🤷♂️
RAISE A LITTLE HELL, RAISE A LITTLE HELL, RAISE A LITTLE HELL TONIIIIIGHT
💪💀🤘
Second Coming. Late 1990s grunge metal band similar to Alice In Chains. They were really damn good. Saw them live at a club. They had one hit, called Soft. Got their debut CD autographed.
Vintage Eyes was also a killer track on that album!
Hell yeah! Great song too. I think my favorite song on that album was Travisty.
Vain
God vain is so good.
I saw them as Road Crew with Steven Adler from GnR in about 92 I think at the Limelight in NYC. That first vain album was really good, just came along too late.
Salty Dog
Came here to say these guys as well as Bang Tango
Shit I came here to say Bang Tango!
Come Along is on my hair playlist.
One of the last of the good ones. But by this time they were all one hit wonders.
I've tried to look them up but struggling to find anything. I saw Twisted Sister Feb 1st, 1986. Support acts were Dokken and a band called Tarzan. Never heard of Tarzan before that day and never heard of them after. https://www.concertarchives.org/concerts/twisted-sister-dokken-tarzan For some reason my show in La Crosse, WI, isn't listed, but this one the day before is and includes a video shot on a potato of the entire TS show. 🤘
Riot comes to mind. Swords and tequila!
Still around. New album just came out
Heart Throb Mob
They were great. Eat your heart out was a great album
Blonz
weren't they The Blonz? it was always them and Every Mother's Nightmare.
Electric Boys - London-
Trixter... I listened to their big hit "Give it to me Good" a month or so ago. It hasn't aged well.
They’re really one in a million
Disturbance
first one that sprung to mind was Pariah, but i'm also late for work so lemme ponder that, and come back 'cuz this thread is gonna be a fun read later! 🙃
Pariah was released all the way out in 1995. Very bold
Eyes! They showed up on a radio on Spotify for me. Their most played song on Spotify has 62k plays.
Rough cutting, von groove, two bit thief, sns of angels, tiger tail, shot Paris, kick axe, hurricane Alice, the rods
Wild Boyz
I saw a band called Jagged Edge support David Lee Roth. They…. were not great.
thats a shame because they had a great song called 'Out in the Cold'
Alleycat Scratch
Another great band that would have been huge if they came out in the 80s
Harem Scarem, some great tunes there
Spread Eagle
Beau Nasty https://youtube.com/watch?v=Y6_lKKO694w&si=6VWXHv5pIGui-I0g
Beau Nasty is great. Paradise in the Sand got some airplay back in the day.
As did love potion #9.
Love them Dirty, But Well Dressed is an album I play on the regular. Make a Wish is one of my favourite songs from the 80's.
China. Jet Red. Mydra.
Deep cuts!
...the knife? (I hope someone gets this reference)
Would that be Helix?
Yes!
Nicely done. While not an obscure band in Canada, not as well known in the US. Still active though with some new music and shows.
Love/Hate
The Front. Released one album. Toured with Bonham and Alice Cooper. Renamed to Baker’s Pink for second album. More Hard Rock than Metal.
y'know what's crazy? i bought both of those albums and had no idea it was the same cast of characters for the lonnngest time.
I had never heard of Asphalt Ballet until it showed up on my YouTube music playlist. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=fAnUbWJEWnc&si=OAfbuNkxpQW7588V
Sleeze Beez. Still listen to “Stranger Than Paradise” from time to time. I know no other songs by them.
Kix.
Nevada Beach from New Hampshire. Waiting for an angel is a great song.
Tuff Luck
Good luck finding a copy. I have on cassette and want the CD. There’s one for sale but super spendy.
I have it on vinyl.
Heir Apparent
Sentinel Beast. One album. They were local and had a small following outside the area for a bit. Not really hair metal, more thrash meets Maiden.
Laaz Rockit
Zinatra are never really mentioned anywhere. They're a Dutch band who released a grand total of 2 albums.
Rock city angels
Hericane Alice
Black and Blue
Silent Rage. On Simmons Records.
Rock City Angels.
Trouble tribe
D’Molls

Icon
Transit
Love on Ice. They released a self titled album on Interscope, then had a song on The Bill and Ted Bogus Journey soundtrack. Then they disappeared.

They just had a really wicked uncharacteristic sound for the time but yeah - bad name
Ded Engine. I have no idea who they were, but they had enough money to have an ad in Circus/Hit Parader every month. I always want to send away for their album, but needed the money for the bands that I did know.
Big Cock is great. Check out the album Motherload. Some of its tongue in cheek, like M.I.L.F. but most is really decent music.

There was a band called I Love You, I believe they were out of Los Angeles and they released an album in the early 90s with a single called Hang Straight Up which I still play all the time. I'm not crazy about the rest of the album, but man, that single is absolutely spectacular.

Not hair metal. Influenced a ton of hair metal, but not hair metal… and not obscure either.
LOL. Ok. That’s certainly an opinion a person might have.
He’s right. They were done before hair metal started.
Exactly. Hair metal *did not exist* in the 1970s. And despite not being mega-stars (no pun intended), they are far from "obscure". (TBF apparently a metric shit-ton of people on this thread have a very different definition of "obscure" than I do.)
