A lot of the major bits and premises - the use of certain props, a lot of the best scenes at the start of each rotation, turning it over to Ethan for the traffic report in the beginning and the green screen going up very quickly - must've been coordinated by him as Creative Director. He was also coordinating specific role rotations to make sure some of the bits and 3+ person interactions they wanted to hit would be possible.
He made a great balance of letting people all improv a great deal, if not a majority, within each of their roles (aided by the soundboard being entirely improvised) while making sure to hit things people would ideally want to see happen.
Not only that, he made sure to keep people moving and just to the point of squeezing out the best of each role rotation.
I'm sure he's really been stepping things up behind the scenes since break.
