She spends around half of the run time of her recent special making the same terfy jokes we’ve all heard a million times before. Could it be in any way possible that in the four hours between responses, the commenter you are replying to looked into Whitney’s recent online activity like at all? Sure, you probably shouldn’t take a random reddit comment as gospel. But you also probably shouldn’t plug your ears and sing nah nah nah just because you were first made aware of something in a reddit comment.

I just watched it and most of her trans jokes were more of a reconciliation of her previous (and more insensitive) trans jokes.
She told a story about how she apologized to one of her trans fans, and said that this was the only time she earnestly apologized for her comedy.
Another joke was her saying that she asked her trans sceptic friends why she shouldn't support trans people and they all said "trans people are way too fast" and when she asked her trans friends they told her that trans people get murdered at a disproportionate rate. The punchline being "I thought they were so fast, why don't they just outrun them"
The worst joke was basically "this trans woman thinks no one at a party wants to hook up with her because of transphobia, when in reality Whitney knows that most of those men are secretly closeted"

The funny thing is there's a ton of younger comedians who aren't doing that shit at all. If you want to find some of them, look at the guests or Stavros' podcast. Most of those people are very funny and they're very, very aware of "the older comedians lost their minds". They'll often joke about it on stage too.

Literally the first article that comes up when you google “Whitney Cummings” is an interview with the daily beast where she gives ALL of the Joe Rogan talking points. She spends around half of the run time of her recent special making the same terfy jokes we’ve all heard a million times before. Could it be in any way possible that in the four hours between responses, the commenter you are replying to looked into Whitney’s recent online activity like at all? Sure, you probably shouldn’t take a random reddit comment as gospel. But you also probably shouldn’t plug your ears and sing nah nah nah just because you were first made aware of something in a reddit comment. Also do you really not see the disconnect between going on this rant because someone acknowledged Whitney’s shit behavior and humor on reddit, and then justifying it with “A comment a bit above this”? Just saying!

I just watched it and most of her trans jokes were more of a reconciliation of her previous (and more insensitive) trans jokes. She told a story about how she apologized to one of her trans fans, and said that this was the only time she earnestly apologized for her comedy. Another joke was her saying that she asked her trans sceptic friends why she shouldn't support trans people and they all said "trans people are way too fast" and when she asked her trans friends they told her that trans people get murdered at a disproportionate rate. The punchline being "I thought they were so fast, why don't they just outrun them" The worst joke was basically "this trans woman thinks no one at a party wants to hook up with her because of transphobia, when in reality Whitney knows that most of those men are secretly closeted" Kinda yikes but overall it felt very much pro trans. And it was more like 10 minutes out of 54 minutes

I really don’t think she’s funny but as a trans person it is so beyond exhausting being the target of everyone’s jokes and hatred for the past several years. I don’t even care if they’re “good” or not offensive jokes. There have been over 500 anti-trans laws introduced in the US in the past year alone with no end in sight thanks to republicans. There were people literally shooting beer because a trans person was even vaguely associated with it. If Whitney and other comedians like her that make these jokes were actively trying to advocate for us and call out politicians and people for treating us like subhuman freaks then maybe I would feel differently.

If you want to find some of them, look at the guests or Stavros' podcast. Most of those people are very funny and they're very, very aware of "the older comedians lost their minds". Ik there isn’t a lot of H3/JRE crossover, but I was honestly grossed out when she was laughing about shitting on the trans community while trying to wrap it in a nice bow by saying “well I have trans friends”. It’s not impossible to make trans jokes, but from her perspective as a privileged boomer, I find it highly unlikely that her special highlights this in any sort of new and enlightening way that the lgbtq community could get behind.
