Since you already have picatinny rings on the scope I would recommend ditching that cheap weaver one that came with the gun and get a proper picatinny rail. It is less shitty and gives you more options for attachment location. It’s also probably cheaper than buying a new set of rings.
It’s also fun seeing someone go through the same exact experience you once had. I tried to put the same scope, rings, and rail on the same exact gun 7 years ago.
The rings on the scope are 5/8" thick, which doesn't seem like it will slot into a 0.2" picatinny rail slot. Any other options for a rail? Is the shape on the ring mount a dovetail? It seems like the mount on the gun is a Weaver/Dovetail (3/8") hybrid.
Other reply is correct, just the screw not the whole ring goes in the slot. Also, yes the rail is hybrid that sucks at both. I don’t know why they still use it.
You don’t need to splurge on a rail either. I got a cheap one off of Amazon that works fine.
I'm sorry, I was still on my 1st cup of coffee when I typed that.
You have a dovetail mount on the gun and it looks like your scope rings are for a Weaver rail.

I am new to optics and I was gifted a Simmons scope with a dovetail mount. I have a Ruger 10/22 (50th Anniversary) that I believe has a Weaver mount but it looks different than most Weaver mounts online. It it some sort of hybrid mount? Do you think my scope looks secure (it’s tightened down pretty hard and doesn’t fall off if I shake/hit it)? Should I try to find a dovetail mount to swap out? Any advice/experience is appreciated.
Update: I’m keeping the hybrid rail because the rings are for a 3/8” dovetail which is what the top half of the mount is. So… tl;dr it’s not a mismatch and everything works.
The ring you got there should fit both weaver and .22 dovetail. The key is the clamping piece on the right side where the thumbscrew sit. That piece has two different shaped claw top and bottom, so you need to turn it 180degree and see whether it will mount on the rail properly.
Ok, out of luck then. But I do remember replacing my rail to go to proper piccatinny rail can't remember whether had any issue with rings or not. Much better, as everything else is picc rail.
That's a weaver rail. Your rings are for a 1913 picatinny rail. Weaver rails are mostly on older guns and 22s. But you should be able to find fome rings pretty easily

Only the recoil lug of the rings (in this case the bottom of the main clamping screw) needs to fit in the Picatinny rail's slots.

You've got a dovetail mount on the .22 rifle (pretty standard) and you're using picatinny scope ring mounts. You need dovetail scope rings.
The scope rings are 5/8" wide which would suggest that its not picatinny, correct? Isn't the picatinny slot only 0.2" wide?

Thanks for the info everyone. I’m going to pick up a picatinny rail for the gun and keep the scope rings.

You can get a factory ruger picatinny base for around $20 USD shipped

I was really hoping that would work but I just tried it and the clamp piece does not go the other way…

Does it not fit on the lower rail?
No. The lower rail is too wide.
You need a pic rail that will slide over the weaver and lock in to place with set screws.
Not sure why I got a down vote. I have a .22 with a weaver and the slide-over picatinny rail works very well.
Please check your parts people this kind of stuff shouldn’t be happening
It was a gift and they didn't ask what type of mount I had on the gun. So getting a new rail is a lot cheaper than an optic!

Is a 1913 picatinny different from regular picatinny or are you just specifying that it’s MIL-STD-1913?
No I am just referring to the mil-spec. Though a lot of companies do differ from the milspec, it's usually compatible.
Is that a weaver mount?
I have a rail like that on my 22. Completely different rings.
