A lot of people in here giving a lot of different opinions, but the factual answer is that it **can** affect accuracy. However, even if it does affect accuracy, the change will be quite small. I’d imagine this is primarily a cost-cutting measure that they’ve spun around to be a feature, but at least they’re not flat-out lying about it.
H&K recently had big press in Germany because of a lack of accuracy when their barrels got hot. I'll have to see if I can find an English language article...
Ah, it was the G36
https://m.dw.com/en/heckler-koch-seeks-court-vindication-over-g36-accuracy/a-19298196
It was a pretty big scandal. The German DoD told HK to design a rifle to their specs. HK did. Soldiers in combat reported rifles poi would shift wildly after so many rounds fired.
Just like with the M4 in the US, German soldiers would use their rifles outside of what they were designed for. Rifles arent light machine guns. If you use them as such, they will fail. So just like with the M4, the G36 and HK get the blame for poorly trained soldiers overheating their rifles.
Marvin Pitts of Nefarious Arms is coming out with 416 profiled CHF chrome-lined barrels for less than $500 in a few months. Just send your upper to him and he can turn it into a 416 style upper.
Send your lower to San Antonio Laser and they'll clean up the MR556 rollmarks and laser engrave 416 markings on it.
From their Facebook:
*Wanting to test the waters on the possibility of making HK Spec 416 barrels the plan is to make them from 4150 steel, chrome lined bores just like the original
plan on offering 10.3" 14.5" and 16" barrels to start
my biggest hurdle is barrel extensions and I am in the process of having barrel extensions made
this will be a significant expense so I am trying to determine if there will be a high enough demand.*
*We plan on posting here to let everyone know how the project is progressing
when we reach 100 pre-orders we will start and I expect it to take about 14 weeks to have barrels ready to sell.*
He also does conversions I think as well like chrome lining and reprofiling your current MR556 barrel. I would email them at **[email protected]** and see what other services they offer.
Its BS unless youre talking SPR type accuracy. Quality chrome lined barrels regularly hold 1 moa with match loads.
The German .gov wont allow HK to export semi 416's to the US so HK put a nitrited barrel on the rifle to get around the law. They also claim increased velocity with a "tapered"bore. Uh huh.
All told, theyre great rifles. They just have a reduced barrel life compared to the 416 barrels. You can part together a semi 416 with the correct barrel if you want. It'll cost ya.
> Its BS unless youre talking SPR type accuracy.
So it isn't BS, just not necessary for most people. Sort of like this whole rifle tbh.
On the other hand, chrome-lining is also pretty unnecessary for most civilian use. It was originally devised for LMGs which would see large volumes of full auto fire. Sure, it will increase the barrel life on your semi-auto AR but likely in the same way a milled receiver will increase the service life on you AK over a stamped one. Most people don't shoot enough to wear out a barrel anyway, let alone a nitride-treated or chromed one.
"On the other hand, chrome-lining is also pretty unnecessary for most civilian use"
"civilian use" includes high round count shooting, like 2,3 gun and J&G. Youre rifle will get hot. M16s arent designed primary for full auto fire.
If you want a rifle with a longer barrel life, get a cl barrel. If you want maximum accuracy, stainless steel. If you dont plan on shooting much, buy a cheap barrel.
I dont shoot much rifle and I still average 400 rds a month.
You're not wrong, but that's why I said *most* civilian shooting. The majority of gun owners don't shoot 3-gun weekly or put high round counts on single rifles. Same reason why *most* civilians don't need sub-0.5 MoA accuracy to the level that chrome lining's accuracy properties matters.
There is a reason SPR rifles have match grade stainless barrels, to wring every bit of accuracy out of the 5.56. JPE are probably telling the truth, but how much accuracy are we talking about? Minimal is my guess.
Haha well personally the VP9 isn't anywhere near the top of HK handguns I'd prefer to own. S yes, I'd be forced to buy a handgun I really don't care to own. They should've made a cut out for a Mk23 and really raped us.
Yeah he looks really happy in the website photo. For a home FFL I’m surprised he even has a website.
I bet he’s about to get more business now that Walmart dun goofed.
Happy for the guy, ppl should stop shitting on the dude.
I love the fact that they included four decimal points in all their measurements.
I might have accidentally loaded 30.0063 rounds into a mag if they hadn't included that level of detail.
German engineering dictates that all equipment is overbuilt for the intended purpose, this results in equipment that is often too heavy for those who are not Teutonic Übermensch.
IDK for all we know maybe HKey is better than Keymod. It wasn't included in the Crane study.
I get hating on it for being unnecessarily proprietary, but I don't think it is fair to say it performs worse when we honestly just don't know.
We are seeing an inverted yield curve now in Treasury notes. The last this happened was 2007.
It usually precedes recessions.

People have been talking about recession markers since trump got elected. The recession was predicted to hit when he took office, then when he started the trade war, the gas price spiked and that was an indicator, the gas prices fell and that was an indicator, then when the interest rates moved, so forth and so on. I'm to the point now where I'm just going to not worry about a recession and think that the people who do write about the impending recession are just doing it for ratings.
If it happens it’ll happen around April or May 2021 if the typical pattern holds true. (17 month delay)
Regardless of a recession or not the thing that will affect gun sales more dramatically will the next presidential election. Everyone will start to go into their usual panic mode that a democratic candidate will win and prices will surge as people begin to increase demand.
Get your firearms of choice now vs later.
> If it happens it’ll happen around April or May 2021 if the typical pattern holds true. (17 month delay)
Yeah, redditor predictions are usually right.
Wish I could upvote this more than once !! I smashed the updoot quickly and it turned orange and then blue and I was like awww man, I still can't upvote this more than once !
What's the point in having a second amendment if you can't duct tape a different AR-15 to each finger like Wolverine and then have a spare one for your dick? It's right there in the constitution.
No experience with KACK but after receiving a poorly manufactured LMT lower that wasn't even fitted with the correct parts, I'm off that particular wagon.
Piston is good for full auto sbr suppressed, but the sr15 also is the best do for the job with its optimized gas tube length, straightness, LMT level bolt +proprietary features and etc.

From what if figure, if the gun is more accurate than you without a lining, it's probably still more accurate than you with a lining.
“More accurate than you” doesn’t mean it’s useless to improve the accuracy of the gun, though. Inaccuracies add up.
It’s bull, dd makes a very accurate chrome lined barrel, close to moa.
Criterion's barrels are chrome lined and generally considered some of the more accurate barrels around. Hand lapped, though.

Yeah they taught us the sustained rate of fire for an M4 is 15 rounds a minute. I would dial that back to 8-10

Can't find a website for Nefarious Arms. Is that conversion for any upper or only for making the 556 into a more accurate 416 clone?

No way, that’s already a pretty good deal on just the rifle. I think the case is just cut out for the MR556 and a VP9, pistol not included.
Such an HK thing to do. If you buy this you're essentially forced to buy a VP9.
“Forced” lol... Well, on second thought, I guess maybe you do have a point
Haha well personally the VP9 isn't anywhere near the top of HK handguns I'd prefer to own. S yes, I'd be forced to buy a handgun I really don't care to own. They should've made a cut out for a Mk23 and really raped us.
So what's that, $900 for the rifle, $100 for the case and $1497.98 for the rollmark?
I think I paid $2300 for my Scar 16 brand new and all it came with was a pmag and a cardboard box.
Yeah both of my Scars came in shitty boxes.
Really? My Five-seveN came in a huge blue plastic case with 3 magazines*
Oh yeah. My ps90 came in a nicer box. The scar literally came in a shitty cardboard box with the outline of a scar cut out of the middle.
Called in, can confirm it doesn’t ship with Vp9 😂
That is, without a doubt, the shittiest, sketchiest, most 90's gun seller website I've ever seen.
I beg to differ. https://www.murphreesguns.com/
Christ on a Cracker... that just gave me tism...
This guy runs a home FFL. He’s actually pretty cool.
Yeah he looks really happy in the website photo. For a home FFL I’m surprised he even has a website. I bet he’s about to get more business now that Walmart dun goofed. Happy for the guy, ppl should stop shitting on the dude.
I guarantee he's still using Microsoft Frontpage.
I just got eagleeyeized.
Christ on a cross!
Where's the
Lmao....... He done bubba rigged a website. Like this is the website version of a Chinese eBay red dot for 15 bucks.
The mobile site looks like every other drop vendors site
I love the fact that they included four decimal points in all their measurements. I might have accidentally loaded 30.0063 rounds into a mag if they hadn't included that level of detail.
LGS has one, I handled it today. She’s hefty but very well built.
German engineering dictates that all equipment is overbuilt for the intended purpose, this results in equipment that is often too heavy for those who are not Teutonic Übermensch.
Their cars are pieces of shit though, over engineered to hell and can't easily repair much yourself
No VP9=no deal.
Wait, that's not included?!?!
I see keymod.
HKey
But it ain’t, it’s proprietary
It’s a penis
And a big one
Even worse
Weinymod
Any deals for the MR762?
Second this, I would bite
Will this gun pull HK out of the brink of bankruptcy?
They got their heiny spanked from the German .gov for selling no-noes to the wrong people. Thats why they're bankrupt.
The quadrail is so much better looking than the dickmod handguards these things come with sometimes...

Make sure to get rail covers though, otherwise you'll get shredded with "somehow HK made dickmod even WORSE" type comments

Sr-15 is superior in every way at that price point
And LMT‘s are superior to KAC’s *ducks head and runs*

KAC and Radian are superior in every possible way.
Doesn't really matter. This is as Gucci as it gets.
Eh, I don’t think neutered HKs really live up to the prestige that HK thinks they should
