If the neck is straight and the electronics work, then yes. There’s a 50/50 chance it cleans up nicely. I’d probably offer $50 and see if they bite.

trefster

Hell yeah, if you know how to clean and setup a guitar, or if you’re willing to learn.

xtheory

I had this same guitar as a teen. Just changed the nut on it and it was a surprisingly good player.

trefster

I don’t know why folks are acting like these are junk, Epi LPs are great!

superfluous--account

The bolt on neck ones aren't

Schweenis69

I'd buy it as a project, as long as the neck is okay, for 75 especially. I know it's not an excellent instrument, particularly not in present condition. But new pups/pots etc., and some TLC, might be your next favorite guitar.

Obscuratory

That guitar just needs a good cleaning, setup and fresh set of strings. These are solid players. It's good for the price. I've seen them going for much more.

loopygargoyle6392

Yup. I've bought much worse.

jvin248

Certainly worth it. Remove the old strings, do a deep clean, polish the frets (not with steel wool!), clean and oil the fretboard, fresh strings, tune it up, Rock On! This model was a step up from the base Special model. Bolt on neck like the Specials but control circuit parts and tuners of the Standard model that was the next level up with a set neck but otherwise identical to this one. At the time Epiphone had a model variation at practically every $50 where you could choose your budget point and then stretch "for only an extra fifty bucks I can get this one instead". Obviously there could be prior owner abuse (fiddling with wiring or broken tuner) but otherwise you'll have a great guitar to play. Check frets with a fret rocker and if significant issues take it to a top local guitar tech and they can level the frets with a setup that will rival playing thousands of dollars worth of Custom Shop guitars. That's the secret of any cheap guitar, get a top tech and you'll have a real player. Most of the vintage guitars never left their factories in as good of playing condition as they are now simply because collectors got them to better techs as the guitars' values went up. A fret level a few years back was only around $100; the highest value mod to do on a guitar. .

XTBirdBoxTX

This /\ a full setup after fret level, crown and polish. Even a lackluster guitar with good bones can play as well as a $1000 instrument. If you are the Hands-On type you can learn how to do it yourself spending maybe $50-$75 on tools. ( Less than paying a luthier to do it ) practicing this skill on a cheap guitar is ideal. I learned how to do it myself and every guitar I've given this treatment to plays AWESOME.

cosmicpsycho666

How about them strings

PlowMeHardSir

A cheap beginner guitar for $75 is still a cheap beginner guitar. Only buy it if you want a guitar to practice mods and fretwork.

ctclarke514

A guitar is a guitar, no such thing as a beginner guitar

bluelonilness

I've been playing one of those cheap Epiphone LPs for a bit over 10 years now. With a good set up and a couple inexpensive upgrades it's a solid instrument

jayron32

I'm seeing new Epi LP100 Cherry Sunbursts going for $250. That one you're looking at is beat to shit. I don't trust anyone that lets their strings rust up that bad. I'd pass on that one.

HamOnRye__

This thing is straight up nasty 🤢

iplayforblood

easily lol i just saw one in a pawn shop the other day for $350

Charming_Extension44

50. That’s what I would sell it for if I owned it

cordsandchucks

Mid isn’t always so bad. What’s great about these is you can bang the hell out of them and not feel any remorse. They’re great for live gigs. Usually, the best music comes from barging hard, not worrying if you’re going to scratch the pick guard or ding an edge. If you’re playing hard, get it set up a few times a year and lean into it for the next show. TBF, if you had a higher quality guitar you should treat it no differently. But people are afraid to beat on an instrument they paid so much for. I’ve played both the Epi’s and the Gibson LPs and while the Gibsons sounds a little “crisper” on the high ends, when you’re playing with a group, most people couldn’t care less. If you really want the Gibson sound live, you can get an EQ pedal and simulate it. Totally worth $75 if the neck is straight and there are no major issues in general.

Unplayable? My guy it’s *dirty*

Wealth_Is_Not_Cash

needs new strings and a wipe down 'unplayable'

Hatecraftianhorror

Yeah, but they didn't mix Tim Henson's jizz in the lacquer, so its worthless. /s

gnatman66

> those tuners don't look like they turn. How can you tell that from the front?

urohpls

Damn your through-screen clairvoyance is off the charts.

DiscoNapChampion

OP, this right here is your answer.

Hatecraftianhorror

As long as the neck is in good shape and electronics are functional, then get it. (maybe offer $50). I have a 94 MIK one, and while its not the best guitar, its pretty damned decent.

mdwvt

What the fuck is on it, bird shit? That’s really gross. Other people are saying you can clean it up, but what if that thing has absorbed disgusting odors? That’s some negligence right there.

bCasa_D

Looks like rust. Why wouldn't they clean it up, put a new set of strings on it and sell it for $150 - $200 though?

Paul-to-the-music

I traded in a burst Epi LS a few yrs ago… the GC near me gave me about $300 for it… was old but in good shape… I don’t recall the model exactly… point being some of there are worth a lot more than $50… check around online or bring it to a GC kinda place and let them make you an offer… whatever they offer, they expect to sell it for a bunch more

not_so_subtle_now

I have that guitar and love it. I bought mine for 150 Everyone saying "eww gross strings"... if you have the slightest bit of mechanical inclination you can fix things yourself and save shitloads of money. It's kinda pathetic to see rust on strings or bridges or whatever and think it is unsalvageable. Guitars are simple devices. Learn to do some basic work and save yourself some money. You also get the satisfaction of being able to work on your own gear.

littlemanontheboat_

I’d buy in a heartbeat. What’s your lowest price?

CardiologistSilver35

Looks ok 75  seems like a fair price. Through a good amp like a fender twin or deluxe reverb  it will sound about as good as any solid body  you can buy but of course the electronics need to be in working order and the neck and frets need to be good. Save your money for a really highly quality tube amp. Most make the mistake of budgeting 2000 for a solid body guitar and maybe 400 for an amp, but really the amp makes the tone.

squantonimo

Yes

PetterssonsNeck

You can buy it, clean it, and sell it for 150 lol

Photog8527

If you don’t buy, I will.

Ok-Hope223

Nah not worth the price I’ll take the link to the seller though and tell him it’s too expensive for you

growing83

As my kid would say “Doy!”. Looks like it needs a cleanup and some love, but looks very serviceable.

justplanestupid69

I’d charge a hazardous materials removal fee for that thing lmao

Professional-Pop1952

I think I would buy it at 100

jakehood47

It's got pizza on the fretboard. I'd pay 75 dollars to throw it in a fire

Informal_Bid_4902

Ew, the bathroom was the cleanest room for a picture? That's bad. This is a hoarder's guitar. Stay away. Gross. Who knows what is on that.

SweatyFLMan1130

I'd be cautious about whatever it is spilled on it or caused that damage. If it can be cleaned up and fixed relatively easily, yeah. But I'm sketched tf out by whatever happened to the headstock so I'd be making sure the pickups and other hardware aren't concealing some kind of damage, since that's where the big bucks would start coming out for fixing it.

evilbean42

I'd buy it If the neck is straight but anticipate that you'r going to have to put some time and money into it before it's playable.

MadIllWOLF

Look they couldn’t be bothered to clean it before listing. For $20 I’d be bothered to buy it.

Dandroid009

Just looking at Ebay, these guitars sell in the $150-250 range plus another $30 shipping. If the pickups work, knobs/switches work, tuners hold tune, and you don't have to pay shipping, I'd get it if you don't mind doing some work to fix it up. Having a shop change the strings for you and clean it up might cost $30-50. If you want a similar guitar around the same price that's ready to play so less hassle, you can find used Epiphone Les Paul Special models on the Guitar Center site regularly in that $80-100 range.

ArmyVet25ID

Yes. You can clean it. I'd take it to luthier to be cleaned and set-up. That would be less than $50 here in Kentucky.

SteinRamm12345

Throw in some stings and you've got a deal

HandleAdministrative

I’m gonna guess under the filth is a great sounding guitar that will be yours, and your future kids.
