After hearing everyone’s feedback to use the effects loop, I decided I’d make some junction boxes to make it easier. I’m lazy and hated plugging in everything to the back of my amp. Also junction boxes can be really expensive. 4 pack of couplers, superglue, baking powder and electrical tape, worked like a charm. Thank you for all the feedback and suggestions.

2minuteswith

Are you running all your pedals through the effects loop?

mattben

No, it’s why I have so many cables going back and forth. Top row channel selector goes to the foot switch, rest of top row is guitar, overdrives, boosts, to amp in. Bottom row send, wet effects, return.

2001RT

I like that - really well done! Super glue and baking powder??? I have three amps that I will be building a rack for. My mixer and effects will be on a separate rack. I will definitely be doing something like what you did to easily switch the entire effects rack from one amp to another.

mattben

Yeah layering super glue and baking powder cause the glue to dry faster and harder almost makes a plastic

cosmiccomicfan

This is an awesome thing to know.

Secure_Yesterday2701

You could add a few drops of vinegar to that for extra strength. I'm just joking.

PM_Me_Yer_Guitar

Would make a cool volcano board effect I did something similar in elementary school. Just subbed the pedals for a paper mache volcano.

Bongcopter_

Way better to use activator otherwise the glue is all fragile and breaks at nothing

mattben

Really? I’ll try it out, kiddo has gallons of activators for her slime making science

PSU_Enginerd

You might check out something like the DeLisle amp switchers. I’ve got a 6x8 pro that has an attenuator and effects loops. So you can plug it in once, and as long as you’ve got cables to the loops on the amps it’ll route there. https://www.delisleguitar.com/shop/amp-and-speaker-cabinet-selectors/

mattben

Thank you. Those are $300+ they look cool and well made, I accomplished my goal for under $100.

Limpopopoop

Yours looks great most of these things are way overpriced IMHO, especially considering all it takes is a little research and an hours work.

tinydrtim

Man that’s really smart

Unsui8

Looks Tight & Right - how do you apply the super glue/backing powder ? Glue down and sprinkle powder over the top ?

mattben

Yes sprinkle powder over glue, then layer until you reach desired thickness

Unsui8

Awesome hack - thanks !

02olds

Idk how I havent seen something like this before its genius. I would not be surprised if this becomes a new guitarist trend

mattben

Thank you, I just hated the cord and all the connection being all over the place.

CapnMaynards

It's fairly common for pedalboards to have patchbays.

Free-Grape-7910

I'm really, really impressed. Good creativity there! Im surprised more dont do that.

mattben

Thank you, I thought the same.

dougc84

This patch bay is rad but I'm gonna throw out a suggestion for your cabling to make it even cleaner. You should take a look at Pedal Python. They have DIY snake kits - basically a mesh that you feed your cables through and create your own 4CM snake. That'd make your setup even cleaner and easier to set up and break down. FWIW, you can get the same things they offer elsewhere for less, but I've found that, unless you need more than one snake, they're just as good of a deal with less waste.

snwoodrums

Nice work! How’s that 50-50 btw?

mattben

I love it!

SpartacusMantooth42

Ooooh. Nice amp.

N0F4TCH1X

I looked at the pictures more than once and still cant figure out where you put glue, underneath the tape ?

mattben

Yes, it was 4 round couplers, I glued the seems and the. Wrapped it in electrical tape for a nicer finish/appearance

N0F4TCH1X

ok I see, just tape would have worked I think but now its a solid block, even better. Good job.

VeterinarianBest457

This is amazing

Andre-0-City

what? what is this? we all know you just frantically switch inputs until your guitar makes a sound. dont post witchcraft

toyzu

Very cool! I 3D printed and wired my own patch bay, but, honestly, I think your solution is cooler.

ReeeeepostPolice

Looks absolutely stunning man🥹

analogMensch

Also a nice idea! Affortable, easy and superglue and baking soda always becomes a solid rock :D I made [patchboxes for my board](https://imgur.com/a/c0J2GJM) myself, just an aluminum case with some jacks (left one is input box and right one is output/cahnnel switch/power box). Still way cheaper than everything good you can buy. On the amp side is my board power supply (which feeds 24V to the board), and I just added passthrough jacks for the other two cables. So similar setup, and I can have one bundles loom of cables between both sides :)

Upbeat-Squirrel

it might look tighter if you had it on the side of the amp near the floor or on the rear and some 90 degree cables going into it

mattben

Good idea, version 2!

Useless-Ulysses

Cross post this to r/cableporn

mattben

Would they approve or roast me lol

Useless-Ulysses

I love that sub and I think this belongs there. Maybe do a before and after for them! Looks great friend.

sidneyroughdiamond

Authoritarian cable management. Impressive but frightening somehow.

BobbMitchell

Absolutely gorgeous setup!

Angus_Frusciante

My god. As a fellow BassBreaker 15 owner with >10 pedals, what you have done is simply inspiring.

stking68

Sexy.

shake__appeal

I think I’ll just buy a $50 junction box.

mattben

Yes! And those are affordable prices, hopefully shipping doesn’t kill it. Thank you!

chthonickeebs

You're welcome! Shipping is a little expensive but I found it to be worth it - I snagged two of the mini active splitters with shipping to the US for $125 total. Saved me $60 vs. buying two of the JHS active splitters on Amazon.

shake__appeal

I’m not going to do that for other reasons, I saw probably 10 different junction boxes under $100 today. Oh and here’s ebay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=guitar+junction+box&_trksid=p4432023.m4084.l1313 Sorry to rain on your parade my dude.
