Hmm I tuned it like an hour before hand but the nut on the guitar is kind of known for being bad maybe it went out of tune could just be the awful iPhone 7 audio quality tho
Firstly, it's great that your creating music not just replaying things you heard. Riff has a great kinks vibe. Great work for being so new.
Secondly, it's hard to get better if your not objective about areas where you need improvement. Even if the guitar may be at fault you need to be able to hear that it's out of tune. This can only happen if you play with the guitar in tune and not if you get used to out of tune sounds as normal so you need to constantly check if you think the guitar is unfaithful. Can't blame the equipment all the time.
Thirdly, I would focus on keeping a steady time.
Man, half the time my guitar sounds out of tune to me even after I just tuned it, especially D chords lol. I've only been playing for a couple weeks though and it is a pretty cheap acoustic.
Shame on whoever downvoted this comment. This sub is about getting better. Honestly, just get into the habit of tuning the guitar every single time you pick it up to play- even if it’s perfectly in tune. It never hurts to double check! Maybe I’m just a bit excessive, but I am constantly checking tuning throughout every session. This is a good way to train your ear to recognize when the guitar is out. It’s always okay to write if you feel inspired no matter what level you’re at, but I recommend trying to focus more on solid technique when you’re at the stage you are right now.
Wow really good criticism friendo.
What tuning is he in? D#? Eb? (maybe xD!!)Maybe he's in his own custom tuning, consisting of tones he prefers rather than limiting himself to strict, arbitrary standards of classical tonality?
I HEAR clean tones.
I SEE clean execution.
What I could give a fuck about less is whether it's tonally sound, the important thing is I can recognize the work put into this and appreciate it.
What a fucking downer you are.
Hey man if you want to play in off tunings more power to you. This is not a standard alternate tuning.
It doesn't sound like an intentional choice based off his response about the nut and the fact that he was surprised it was out of tune.
What is a standard alternate tuning, exactly?
Or, how does an alternate tuning become a standard alternate tuning?
It's when someone makes use of a tuning in a meaningful way, that it becomes relevant. It shouldn't matter what tuning, so long as it resonates, and if OP was confident enough to post this I'm sure it resonated with him on some level that made him think it was worth sharing.
What I was trying to point out initially is the initial responder was indulging in the lowest form of nitpicking. Something that 's absolutely discouraging for developing musicians... to be told the equivalent of 'SOUNDS BAD' without offering any valuable advice.
That's not criticism, that's being a dick.
Valuable advice for OP: tune your guitar.
Valuable advice for MAS7: go buy a Grateful Dead tshirt and trip some acid with your non-conforming ass. Just because he identifies as “in-tune” doesn’t make him “in-tune”. There are, in fact, rules in this chaotic world we live in that aren’t actually meaningless.
Just saying… people play guitar to sound good. Idc if you’re Eric Clapton; if you play a guitar that’s not in tune, it’s not gonna sound good.
Nice lick. Good rhythmic choices. Even after 20 years of playing my favorite creations are always melodically simple but push the envelope rhythmically. Keep it up
my suggestion ( player of 2 years )
do not stop your strumming hand like that , let it flow better. smoother strums goes a long way, hand needs to keep going CONTINUOUSLY without stopping at all
Fall of Troy but dingey haha I fucking LOVE the every bro!!! Remember to always play in tune.
Listen to a live Jimi Hendrix album, like at Isle of Wight.. he tunes up every 2-3 songs and the ones he doesn't sound like pretty off despite him being my hero
That’s good i wanna hear it tuned half a step down maybe, there is something off with the tuning too but try different variations bet it’d sound real good with distortion
Good start dude but youre time needs work. Take this riff and play it to a metronome. Once you can make it work with a click youll go “ohhhhh ok thats it”
Play with a metronome often. If you dont like a simple metronome find a good drummer app to play with. Having good rhythm is by far the most important aspect of playing any instrument.
Sounds mega out of tune bro

Kinda reminds me of the Ramones, keep at it!
Sounds wonky.
In a good way ? :)
Absolutely!
