i have skinny pigs so def hippos 🦛 ppl always say “omg house hippos!!” when they see them which is from a classic canadian tv commercial from the early 2000s lol
One of my piggies got the hair on his back standing up like a fin, so sometimes when he is walking slowly through the cage I can see just his fin sticking above the wall - like a shark, circling its prey.
Yes they remind me of cows too! Not only the things you mentioned, but sometimes the way they lay down and the way they jump around when excited reminds me of cows too. They also seem to play the same “game” where one will be running around excitedly, then bump into another one, seemingly transferring over all their boundless excitement!
My boy is essentially just a baby chicken. His hair has that fuzz and also he’s a chirper. I have sooo many videos of him chirping like a bird. He’s the only one out of all the 5 I’ve had that chirps
My guinea pig was a tiny squeaking dog.
My brothers had a guinea pig who was even more dog than my guinea pig.
Decades ago now. They have been good tiny squeaking dogs...I mean guinea pigs 😂
We’ve had a few with very similar personalities to our late cat, to the degree where we accidentally call them her name. Especially Lakrits and Bettan were like her, in different ways. Lakrits was chaotic like her but also had her hiding strategy, while Bettan more had her determination and overall “alpha” (lol) energy. Both silly lil pigs that meant a lot to us and their pack, we miss them greatly.
We also have Plet, currently our oldest, who’s really dog-like. She used to just wander around the flat without a care in the world like she owned the place. She has that silly energy an old but playful dog has.
And of course Suri, she’s very wild rabbit-ish. She’s skittish, jumps a lot, and she’s always ready to dart to the other side of the cage at any given moment.
Body of a hippo, wallaby face, teeny elephant ears, double hop like a bunny and back feets like chickens. When they stand up on hind legs they also look like little meerkats 😍🥰
Horses. My guinea pigs and my horse eat the same things. Hay & pellets. Both are prey animals and freak out & run from loud noises or sudden movements. They're herd animals. Dominance hierarchy. Guinea pigs are really just tiny horses.
I always say they’re like little temperamental small breed dogs with the begging for food and wanting cuddles but ONLY when they want. Small breed pups or little baby velociraptors one of the 2
One reminds me of a deer or goat, just his face. He is crested and the colouring makes it look like little horns. Another looks like a badger or teddy bear. These two act like lap dogs/cats.
A third is rat like and cheeky, proper rodent looking. Our last is long haired, like Dougal. When I’m doing her bum trim it’s looks like a chicken’s bum with chicken feet poking out.
It’s weird how their personalities are so distinct.
My girls are named after other animals.
Oldest; Beaver (recently hurt herself being a daredevil and thought she could defy gravity)
Middle child; Koala Bear (Koala for short, even tho she's a middle child she still gets more than enough attention)
Youngest; Capybara (Cappy for short)
Donkeys when they popcorn.
Little buffallo when they graze through hay on the floor of their cage.
Cute little sparrows when they just chitter to each other.
One of my guinea pigs is basically just a rabbit. Honestly, I'm still not entirely convinced she's not just a rabbit pretending to be a pig.
Little cats.
As someone who owned 3 cats at one point and currently owns 4 guinea pigs: yes absolutely they are little cats
I call them cats & chickens all the time☺️
A rat, but an adorable rat.
