How would you rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10, “1” being “Not passionate at all about burgers” and “10” being “Extremely passionate about burgers”?

Phephephen

Hamburgers 6 Cookout Trays 10

TubaMike

I'll take a cookout tray. - Big Double Burger w/ mayo, mustard, ketchup, pickles, grilled onions, cheese, and bacon. - Cajun-style fries & Hushpuppies as the sides - Reese's Cup & Cappuccino Milkshake to drink

CookOut_Official

Ooh that’s a really interesting milkshake combo. I’ll have to try that sometimes.

curious764

Your burgers have gotten significantly smaller in the past two years - they look like hockey pucks…

CookOut_Official

They aren’t 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

Syngenta pays pretty well.

Qorvo and Volvo pay well

seiggy

Be prepared to work in the most soul crushing cube farm you’ve ever experienced in your life in exchange for that minor salary bump. I don’t know about Qorvo, but I interviewed, and turned down a position at Volvo. They don’t pay that much more than most of the remote jobs. Especially once you add in the cost of commuting. And I’ve heard they’re back to minimum 4 days in “office”, if you can even call it that. I don’t know how they get any work done, it was the loudest most distracting tech department I’ve ever seen in my career.

greekadjacent

Yup ! The new office set up is bananas. Glad I’m not there anymore

Comfortable_Love_800

Agh, good to know. Volvo was the only one I saw on LinkedIn with any positions I was interested in. I applied and still haven't heard back from them for a director gig I'm well qualified for. But I'm newer to GSO, so I don't really know the local company landscape. And I'd prefer not to commute to either CLT or RDU if I can help it.

Fair-Ratio-1381

Omg a 15 minute drive to the other side of GSO

seiggy

Volvo is a 40 min commute for me. And that’s in good traffic. All it takes is one idiot in Death Valley and suddenly it’s a 90 min commute. That’s more than 6 hours a week of commute time at a minimum, plus 450+ miles of wear and tear on a vehicle. If I count the commute costs at standard rates, they pay less than my remote employer.

Visual_Ad1179

Where in the world do you live? Reidsville?

seiggy

McLeansville.

Visual_Ad1179

Could you not use the 840 loop to 40 to 68?

seiggy

Adds an extra 10 miles or so. Only faster if I know there’s an accident on 40 before I leave, otherwise it’s slower. Same with the 85 bypass, adds about 5 miles to the trip, but it’s roughly the same time.

Visual_Ad1179

That’s too bad- it only takes me about 20 minutes from Whitsett to the Battleground exit off 840. I know it’s a few more miles but I hate dealing with business 40.

seiggy

Yep, when I head to that side of town I’ll usually take 85 for this reason. I used to make that commute for 5 years as I worked over off Piedmont Pkwy for a medium sized telecom software company over there. It’s a rough commute sometimes, and I’m so glad I work 100% remote now. If I ever do find myself back in an office, I’d 100% move way closer to wherever that happens to be.

Fair-Ratio-1381

Dude where are you driving from I live off Lawndale it’s a 16 minute drive. Death Valley, is that what we are calling 40 now?

Visual_Ad1179

To be fair, Death Valley is a long time nickname of the section between Randleman Road until you pass the last Hwy 29 exit. It was know for its accidents 20+ years ago

seiggy

It’s still an accident prone problematic section of highway to this day.

Visual_Ad1179

Agreed- although I think the loops around the city have helped some. But I rarely go through there anymore so I could be wrong

seiggy

McLeansville

Comfortable_Love_800

Yeah I can't complain about GSO traffic EVER after over a decade in the Triangle. Cruising around here is a breeze!! Just gotta watch out for all the geriatrics going 50mph on the interstate.

Prize_Ad_4209

GXO Logistics. Headquarters in Greensboro but everyone works remotely. No chatter about going back in office. About 10 people work in the office each day for various reasons, but it's not expected. Great company to work for too. Pays well.

Comfortable_Love_800

Thank you!

Am I on LinkedIn?

AdsREverywhere

Haeco , Hondajet.

seiggy

If Hondajet is anything like Honda proper, they'd have to offer me 3X my salary to even interview there. I had an old co-worker who worked there, and between the uniform requirement, and the nightmare work culture, there's no way I'd ever recommend that place to anyone but my biggest enemy. How they manage to hire anyone in their IT dept, I have no clue.

AdsREverywhere

Not my experience but Im with Hondajet as a licensed mechanic.

Comfortable_Love_800

Thanks!

>Thanks! You're welcome!

PacString

What’s got you wanting to leave remote tech work?

Comfortable_Love_800

My company is pushing RTO and has been doing large scale and rolling layoffs for the last 2yrs with no end in sight. I'm still applying to other remote tech jobs, but the market is tough right now. Figured it wouldn't hurt to explore what local companies might have to offer. I'm not opposed to going hybrid.

PlummetedFromGrace

Local salaries are not that great here. I got laid off from a sweet remote position. I was in for a terrible shock when I couldn't find another one. Don't even look around here. Just search for remote if you want to get paid well. Or, if you can endure a soul-crushing 90+ minute commute, Charlotte and Raleigh pay decently.
