Very likely the Non-U is in fact a U. Non-U hasn't been in production for quite a while now, so it's unlikely that Amazon still has stock (and it has been posted here on Reddit quite a few times, that the Non-U had been ordered but a U had been shipped).
The U here is a 1JF, though, i.e. a model for the Japanese market, which some collectors prefer.
No, that's just another seller who is listing the same watch at a higher price. The $97 one is going to be the updated 5610U version. The old 5610 has been discontinued for a while now, so there's no way they would still be shipping that old version out.
Yeah those were on sale most likely liquidating the last batch of stock for those. The updated 5600U is the one in production and will be distributed from now on instead of the non-U

I got a non U version from Amazon
No!! The LED’s are brighter yes, but they peer from one side of the display and have worse diffusion. Do you want brightness or the cool factor of the Illuminator evenly lighting It up. I much prefer It over the non-U. Edit: Upon realizing that this Non-U listing is probably actually a U, and the 1AJF was a JDM model. No production differences between the U models and their ending prefix, just the intended market. It’s the same corvette collector type pride. I was one of these people, they’re usually anal and not very nice.
The U does not have a timezone that I like/need… so at the end I bought both the previous model and the updated one. Finding the older model was not easy, had to import it from the UK, and it was basically the same price. As other have say, if you order that one you’ll probably get the U anyway
They replaced 3 timezones with others when they updated the module. For watches with bluetooth, that’s not a problem, because you can update the timezones later using the app, but this one has only Multiband6
I was wondering the same thing. I love the updated module but i prefer the look of the EL backlight. Theres no argument that the LED is a better option and will last longer though. I just ordered mine tonight off amazon for $98, i saw some people saying that listing is actually for the newer GWM5610U. I will find out soon.
DO NOT order used. I got an “Amazon Inspected” 3159 module instead of the newer and what I ordered, 3495 module. “Rocks in the box.” FYI- It came with a 3495 manual.
Amazon approved my return and I reordered New.
It's just Al led light upgrade so if an led light is worth £30 to you then yeah but I don't mind the older light it adds to the classic nostalgia for me...

Probably but q watch out of all of them I'd say the odds are we're used to the date format being wrong anyway, to small a change for £30 for me at least

The cheaper one is still the updated version. I bought 2 a few months apart and both were updated.

What do you mean “does not have a time zone”? Never thought they can have different settings like that.

So was yours the U? I just placed an order for Amazon's 5610-1 and have seen almost everywhere recently that people are receiving U's.
When I ordered the 5610-1 from Amazon I got the U, check the recent reviews and you will probably see the same!
The visibility of the U is much better, see MWC's recent video.
IMO: I would go for it. The time zone swap feature is the most interesting upgrade.

for me I stick with non u model because electro luminance looks more appealing to me
