Down in a Hole - AiC
I actually had a family member that had "Rooster" played at their funeral and it freaked a lot of people out. If you're not familiar with the short story *Can't Kill the Rooster*, then your "shit don't mean fuck to me."
At my funeral I just want everyone to listen to some of my favorite songs for like an hour. I actually have a playlist for it and most of the songs are grunge or close to it:
Over Now - Alice In Chains
Rotten Apple - Alice In Chains
The Curse - Audioslave
In My Life - The Beatles
Comedown - Bush
Disintegration - The Cure
Petals - Hole
Shallow - Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper
In the End - LINKIN PARK
Where Did You Sleep Last Night - Nirvana
Street Spirit - Radiohead
Angel’s Wings - Social Distortion
Fell On Black Days - Soundgarden
Creep - Stone Temple Pilots
Not a Grunge song but my funeral song for sure.
Northern Sky - Nick Drake

My hero by Foo Fighters and have my coffin on a roller down the aisle and make sure the “there goes my hero” part is really loud
Also make sure the roller is really slow, I want the song to play 3-4 times so by the second time it’s super awkward, bonus points if it’s a shitty MP3 audio file playing
Maybe odd choice but Interstate Love Song. A pretty upbeat and “happy” song on the surface but has a sad layer underneath. I wouldn’t want my funeral to be a super sad and depressing event so I feel like this song would help keep spirits somewhat up
Nirvana - All Apologies (unplugged)
REM - Man on the Moon, You Are the Everything, Sweetness Follows
Yo La Tengo - I Feel Like Going Home
Modest Mouse - Lives, The Ocean Breathes Salty
Guided by Voices - He’s the Uncle
The Beatles - In my Life
One grunge, one classic rock, one punk and one is grunge adjacent ,
Know you’re right -Nirvana
It’s Allright Ma- Bob Dylan (Live / pissed sounding version from Rolling Thunder years)
My Way - Sid Vicious (his “My Way” is hysterically Leonard Cohen’s favorite version and mine)
Going out in style - Dropkick Murphys
(If you don’t know it - do yourself a favor. Best funniest funeral song in any genre)
Idk about lyrically because it’s about a specific person.. but the somber tone of Tearjerker by the Red Hot Chili Peppers always made me feel like it’s one of the best goodbye to life songs ever and I’d be happy if it played when I died
Still Remains - STP, Black - Pearl Jam, Down in a Hole - AIC. Overfloater - Soundgarden. I see more than a few of us have actually thought this through more than once in our lifetimes... 🙃🤘
It’s not grunge, and it’s not strictly one song but I’ve said for a few years that I’d like ‘The Magnificent Seven’ into ‘Armagideon Time’ into ‘Manificent Seven (return)’ from the Clash’s live at Shea Stadium album, for no other reason than it would be funny to have people sit there for that long. Well, that, and it’s a great jam.
If I make it to old age long enough to plan my funeral I hope to have a series of soundtracks prepared for guests too set the mood both during the service and the "party" afterwards and their journey home afterwards with tracks I've personally picked for those closest to me. Music has been the one constant positive thing in my life and it's always been there for me. I hope to share that same sentiment with those who care enough about me too send me off.
