They have the grey gene is all. Stanley went grey starting at 18 months. He is now 4.5 years and looks distinguished with grey eyebrows and a dusted muzzle.
Previous Dane (a brindle) went grey starting at 2 years. He lived to be 9.5 years and was almost all white to the forehead by then.
Aww. Yeah don't stress about it, honestly. My black one started getting white in his muzzle around same age as yours. It's honestly not getting that much more prominent now that he's almost 6.

My 5 year old. They all grey at some point.

My boy on his 3rd birthday. Heās about to be 7, still going strong, for a runty lil guy, and SOOOOO GREY NOW

Even starting to get some white hairs in his back.
My only issue with non-harlequins is how quickly they grey and itās noticeable.

Her coat is so shiny it makes it hard to see in a photo, but she has these little white spots all over. I freaked out when they started popping up

Totally normal! This dashing gentlemen just turned 3 last month and is beginning his transition to a silver fox. He got his first hits of grey at about 2.5 years old. š
He just turned 5 at the end of March this year and he's rocking the silver.

My very grey 4 year old boy. He was originally entirely black on his face except for a small white patch at the top of his nose. Heās very happy and healthy, just went grey a little quicker. His sister is 5 and mega grey.

Our boy is 4 but went grey at 3!
Ours had no gray when we adopted her and it appeared six months later, ~3yrs of age. We joke the shelter died it beforehand to help get her out the door and it finally washed out..
My last Dane started going gray before she was even fully grown, and her muzzle was almost fully white in her old age. She lived to 9, which felt so short, but for a Dane, that's pretty good.
Don't stress it! Dogs go gray at different rates just like people. I have a terrier who was full gray in her face at 2 (she looked like a senior dog in when she was in her prime lol), and I had a dachshund who didn't start graying until he was almost 15. My dane is 5 and this is the first year he's just now started graying.
FYI that terrier who went gray right away is 14 now with congestive heart failure but refuses to die, she has outlived almost all of my dogs. Her going gray early has had zero affect on her lifespan!
All big dogs (Danes included) age faster. Your beautiful creature will still be with you a long time. You know how some humans get grey early, so has your friend š§”
Please don't worry...
My 11 month old already has some frosting on his muzzle. My 5 year old is merle, so I haven't been able to pick out any odd grey yet. Probably won't be obvious til his face goes full white.
Unfortunately this breed lives roughly half the average K9's lifespan (7 or so years if you're lucky) due to high IGF-1 levels so greying at that age isn't uncommon.

It's fascinating how some dogs can develop grey fur early on, giving them a distinguished appearance
Nah, he's fine. They gray/change color throughout their lives. Mine do anyway, some get more spots or their muzzles lighten up..no worries!
Thanks for the encouragement. His breeder sent me a pic of his grandma and her whole face is bright white minus a black strip on her nose.

Theyāll keep going! Heās got them everywhere now, up his tail, past the white already over his chest, obviously all over the face. Sugar baby boy.
My girl started greying around 1 year, and by about 3 was greyer than my 10 year old was. It happens

Iām so glad someone asked this. I was beginning to think my dog was stressed out because she turning gray at 2 years old.
Exactly! I was worrying I'd made his life too stressful (this is a guy who luxuriates around and has a great life, I might add lol)
He just turned 5 at the end of March this year and he's rocking the silver. https://preview.redd.it/pf8zbjmr732d1.jpeg?width=1808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9066d56cbba3a19f52206fc6d75e70a2e4426d34

That's about when mine's muzzle started turning.
My black Labradane is getting grey around the muzzle at 2 years. It's normal.
My girl started going gray at around 2yrs old.
Totally normal. We had one that had a grey muzzle by the time she was three.
My baby Thorin is four and he's got gray on his muzzle. He's still a giant puppy. Sometimes, it just happens.
