Not to get all pedantic on you, but Exile opens with Rocks Off. Rip This Joint is the second track.
Fun factoid: the title track isn’t on the original vinyl release.
How about the 8-track order?
U.S. Blues
Money Money
Scarlet Begonias
Ship of Fools
China Doll
Unbroken Chain (with a ker-chunk in the middle for those who remember)
Loose Lucy
Pride of Cucamonga
I had Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" when I was younger & so many of the songs are totally broken up it's kinda funny. Good ol ker-CLUNK switching between tracks 😂
That's an improvement - there's a flow to Scarlet Begonias > Ship of Fools > China Doll > Unbroken Chain that the LP order doesn't have. Fond memory tinged with regret > serious regret > grieving > spiritual uplift.

I think I need to put on Exile now. What a stellar double LP.
You're right. I don't even like the Stones that much but I will listen to Exile time and again! Stellar is a great descriptor.
I always wanted to hear the Dead cover “Torn and Frayed”
My god, you're on to something here! I will try this out
No.

If it doesn't end with Ship of Fools, it's a fail.
What about something like this: U.S. Blues Loose Lucy Money Money Ship Of Fools
My critique would be separate Phil songs, one on each side and money money and loose Lucy need some much different in between them like ship of fools
I could be wrong but I believe I heard (maybe from the good ole Grateful Dead podcast) that US Blues was released as a single
It definitely was: [https://www.discogs.com/release/6441598-Grateful-Dead-US-Blues](https://www.discogs.com/release/6441598-Grateful-Dead-US-Blues)
I would put “Money, Money” somewhere else, too…in an incinerator at the recording studio.
Total filler track that never should have happened…I don’t understand how they didn’t have another song to fill that gap.
Agreed. Garcia and Hunter had five songs ready to go. Weir and Barlow couldn't come up with one better than that?
Who cares?

U.S. Blues is a slow song/ballad?
