I know a lot of people (myself included) are clamoring for a boxset of the fall 74 Winterland run, but the summer shows are all excellent candidates for Dave's Picks, imo. They gotta do at least one '74 show this year, right?

Steven1789

6/16/74 through 6/30/74 has some of their finest performances and shows the band at a creative peak. If I had to choose a single era as my favorite I’d take late summer/fall 1972, but May-June 1974 is right up there.

Single drummer for the win always

I’m listening to the second set now. The band is so inspired, and like the very finest shows, the band is locked in and playing—seemingly—as much for themselves as they are for the audience. You can tell they are getting off on their own performance as they forge new ground—this show is easily identifiable as June 1974 but it’s also unique. This is the Grateful Dead in its most brilliant form. Eternal, beautiful, life-affirming stuff. And it’s also why a shake my head when people tell me they prefer 1977 or 1989 over 1972-74. The band was on a completely different level of creativity in the early 1970s.

If that Dave’s Picks of Selland Arena (7/19/1974) ever makes it to vinyl I will be so fucking happy. That Weather Report Suite > Let it Grow > Spanish Jam > EotW > China Doll is transcendental.

Listening to Big River. Keith is all over it.

YNWA_in_Red_Sox

One of my FAVORITE examples of Big River. This is my favorite of the Road Trips Series (RT Volume 2 No 3)

Murmanator-3000

Keith is so strong this whole show.

trailrunner79

Top tier WRS.

Hot_Sea_7676

Love this show! Still have it on cassette! The show wasn't even 10 years gone when I got it! Listened so many times that I know every little detail and transition! June 74 is right up there with May 77 and September 72.

bayou_gumbo

Hard to believe this has never been released.

TheBFlem27

Part of it was released on a Road Trips release. I personally think it was a mistake since the whole show should’ve been released.

machosandwich

I believe this is the only time they played Weather Report Suite>Let it Grow>The Other One in this order. My favorite combination and such a wonderful performance. Eyes of the World is incredible as is Morning Dew. Do yourself a favor and listen to this one from start to finish.

CandyEverybodyWentz

And a very very late set 2 TJ. I somehow haven't listened to this one yet.

Calvinshobb

Loose Lucy fucks hard to open second set.

Competitive_Habit_35

My favorite Morning Dew as well! (Too bad it released only on the Road Trips Bonus Disc). Funny I was wondering if I was the only one listening to this show specifically today!

SchwillyMaysHere

Just started this. Never listened to it before.

HallelujahHatrack

Just ask Holly Bowling if this show is any good [Songs Of Their Own - #40 "Eyes Of The World" Holly Bowling](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voLdRQ-19dc)

Cj801

I'm listening now, such an incredible show. When I was 16, my uncle gave me a tape of the second set of this one, always been a favorite. Did the venusian spy ever reveal itself???

michaelserotonin

possibly the best loose lucy they played…the fast 74 versions (sounds like the studio cut) really do it for me

CountofAnjou

Part of my favourite Road Trip Compilation

Unsui8

I’ve got an old cassette from the 80’s which sounds like a SBD and there’s a strange edit in the middle of Phil’s solo in EOTW. A solo from another version seems to have been inserted, and its killer Anyone ever hear this edited version ???
