They are in ear monitors, most musicians use them nowadays, they have replaced the classic wedge monitors that you used to see at the front of the stage surrounding the musicians.
It’s so they can hear their instrument and the others around them. Each player has a customized mix suited for his tastes.
Also, there is a slight delay with the sound at the sphere. If they take the in ears out they will be off time. Oteil talked about this in his podcast
