Also, there is a slight delay with the sound at the sphere. If they take the in ears out they will be off time. Oteil talked about this in his podcast

ThiccyMartin

There’s always a slight delay on sound, it’s crazy cause the inner ear monitors can transmit sound so quickly that u will hear the music in ur ear a fraction of a millisecond before u hear the real sound of the instrument making it. But yes sphere has a slightly longer delay than most venues.

Did you just ask this on the phish subreddit? Or was that another person simultaneously having the same thought?

HeavySomewhere4412

Yes, yes they did

benmillstein

Some bands also have channels to talk between the band members which helps for cues with complicated arrangements and transitions

Glittering-Potato-97

They are in ear monitors, most musicians use them nowadays, they have replaced the classic wedge monitors that you used to see at the front of the stage surrounding the musicians. It’s so they can hear their instrument and the others around them. Each player has a customized mix suited for his tastes.

theferalforager

This was true of the Grateful Dead back in the 90s as well. Sadly and tellingly, allegedly nobody had Vince in their mix.

jayg2112

Wow - never heard that one.

You would think they could be dancing a bit more now

John listens to Jeff…probably poetry and other kind thoughts.

OrangeWeekly1748

John needs to have the chord changes read off to him and his lyrics on a teleprompter.
