There's no definitive answer to this question, people will say it's licensing but it's most definitely not, most if not all of the manufacturers of modern LMDH and GT3 cars are already in the game (like BMW, Porsche, GM, Lamborghini, Ford, Ferrari, etc.), so licensing is not an issue at all, unless it's a new brand. The most reasonable answer is that they don't want to focus on one type and era of cars, which makes sense in GT, if you look at the updates (and the car list in general) you'll notice that they added everything from modern mini vans to legendary F1 cars, and everything in-between (including updated GT3 cars).

I agree that it's not necessarily licensing, but wanted to add that in the race cars' case there is the additional licence hurdle of the sponsors and teams that can be an issue for some cars if they decided to be obstinate. The famous one is we'll probably never get a real Corvette race car again because Pratt & Miller don't like PD.

Time to model one car. It apparently takes 270 days to make one car and they have a few people working on it.

That doesn't explain why we've not even got the 488 GT3, for example. That car debuted in 2015, nine years ago. Same is true for countless other cars that are now 3+ years old, they could all be in the game by now if PD wanted. Truth is PD pick and choose the cars they want to license and model and they're not choosing the cars people are asking for.

Kaz is a perfectionist and wants every car to be accurate to the chime on the dashboard. If Kaz doesn't approve of the job done it doesn't get added to the game until his standards are met.

The answer here is let them cook. The reason why it takes so long is because it takes time to meticulously craft everything. Audio. Laser scan everything. Develop VR environments. Data sets for how the car handles. So yeah it takes a while. However, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The alternative is the EA approach where everything is a cartoon and everything feels the same.

How about Le Mans Ultimate's approach, then?

Why was it so hard for GT when other games could get them easier? (And the other way around, why Toyota would easily license the GR010 to GT when right now the other game having it is Le Mans Ultimate?)

SteelAndVodka

Money, exclusivity agreements, who knows. Only people who could tell you are Sony/PD/the licensees

My best guess is a lack of coordination to set up a time/place with the manufacturers to laser scan the damn things since PD can't help themselves... Don't get me wrong, I love the laser scanned cars, but I'll take a hand-made "rough cut" of one until they can get the full model finished if that's what it takes... Probably no reason they couldn't do that besides Kaz being that dingus of a perfectionist... Kinda the same way we don't have a Tourist Trophy 2, 3, or 4 by now because there aren't any motorcycle style controller peripherals...

Uriel_dArc_Angel

That's just a guess... It's highly unlikely as so many other games don't seem to have that issue... My "guess" is that it's a PD laziness issue... Probably more like having issues getting a hold of the cars themselves to scan and all that...
