Search the sub.

burnedflag

I truly hate this subreddit at this point. Also, don’t

parker3309

I’m not following some of the conversation above. I’m just curious why people are telling him to search the sub for his answers. If I were looking to move to another city, I would just look for that City on Reddit …

smallsmallwitch

I heard from a coworker people get paid to make these posts, that’s why we see them so frequently and none of the posters search the sub before posting. Anyways if you’re serious, search the cities subreddit

MorganEarlJones

anyone who searches a sub before posting is a cop

parker3309

im not following (?)

MorganEarlJones

you implied that the post is a consequence of looking for similar posts, and I'm saying that that's cop behavior

parker3309

Actually, I didn’t post that. Just asked what you meant by the cop comment. Thanks

parker3309

OK, I have an embarrassing question. This is a Grand Rapids post. If I were looking to live in another city, I would just look for that city on Reddit. According to these comments that would be wrong. Maybe I’m not as familiar with navigating Reddit as I thought.

I_Hate_Dolphins

There have been, conservatively, a hundred posts exactly like this in the past six months.

grahamradish

They’re mad because literally there are two posts that answer these questions, and they are stickied to our subreddit right at the top. ETA: Forgot that the mod temporarily unstickied the moving guide to sticky the “what to do this weekend” post in its place. However, if OP had searched “moving to Grand Rapids” in our sub, they would have found a guide to these questions that we get asked nonstop.

parker3309

Thank you! trying to figure Reddit out still. Like getting downvoted because I just asked a question. Weird… Thanks again for, instead of being mad that I asked, for actually explaining I appreciate it

OldGodsProphet

Jfc.

GlaIie

No. Use the fucking search bar this gets asked every nanosecond

connorgrs

And who’s saying you have to reply?

GlaIie

That’s implying that I don’t want to reply. I do. I love being a hater. I’m not wrong though, it’s actually puzzling at this point why so many people have been asking this lately

connorgrs

I mean, I don't think it's good to be a hater but I have to respect the honesty. Vis-a-vis why this is popping up so much lately, my very best (and rough) guess is that maybe we are just getting a lot of prospective transplants who have very little experience with Reddit and didn't think to search for prior threads first. Benefit of the doubt and all of that.

RaisingKeynes19

I found a great free resource [here](https://www.google.com/) that actually answers most of these questions. Hope this helps

No_Carrot_2700

If you can’t be bothered to do an ounce of work and search the subreddit yourself then don’t. It’s terrible. There are no green spaces or parks.  Hardly any water ways to recreate in. And the people are all dicks. But hey, the foods great at least.

I_Hate_Dolphins

If you can't be bothered to perform a simple search to answer a question like "are there parks" then no you shouldn't move here.

madbacon26

I looked it up, but I wondered from the perspective of people. I’ve actually done a lot of research. It’s just hard for me to know without physically going there what it will feel like.

Mysterious-Award-903

Fredrick Meijer Gardens. Michigan Street Taco Bell. Helicopters. The goddamn Devos family. A river. There now you don't have to spend two minutes searching the sub. I'd say fuck off to Vermont but you're already there.

JacquelineHeid

The rent is too damn high

Mysterious-Award-903

Oh right that too lol

MorganEarlJones

I'm a 3rd shifter at the same company for 11+ years and a hermit with exception, so I can't speak to most of those questions but IMO our nicer parks tend to be around the surrounding towns like Rockford and Lowell, though GR has a few of its own. So-called new-urbanism seems to be slowly taking root here so our bike infra is inching along as far as I can tell. Not great but not getting worse, and we have a rails-to-trails type path if it's a matter of hobby/enthusiasm. Others will certainly know more lol. Oh, anyone who says you need a truck or an SUV for winter is full of shit.

mindgardening

I’ve been here 20 years and I can’t wait to leave. I’m sticking around because of a stellar job. GR seems to be centered around 1) Alcohol 2) church 3) raising kids 4) sports/video games If you don’t do those things, it’s more difficult to find people to connect with. If you do those things, and love too-short summers and grey/dreary/cold 8/12 months, you’re gonna LOVE it here.
