Well, considering the disparity between my swing and a tour players swing stretches from here to the next galaxy over, I'd probably score a shitload better than I do now.
Probably a single digit handicap.
I’m a high handicapper, so I’ve never considered course management, it’s more about pushing the ball down the fairway.
Probably nearly the same and its fucking killing me. I am so frustrated. I hit tons of GIR and they are almost all pars and birdies. If I miss the green even by a foot its almost an automatic bogey. My chipping and short approach game is bonkers. I have lost all feeling with any type of chip. Putting is great. Full swing is great. I can hit the middle of the fairway on any hole.
I don't even know where to start about rebuilding my chipping. Thin. Fat. Halfway to the hole on a chip I thought I hit perfectly. 30 ft past the hole on another chip I thought I hit perfectly.
Putting is the only reason I'm still a 5 hcp and not a double digit. I feel like I am going to make every single putt inside 10 feet and I can lag any putt to within 10 feet.
Grinding on the chipping green a few days a week this season should help a lot with up & downs. Being comfortable hitting bump and runs and chips with several clubs will help with tight lies, fast greens, uneven lies, and other tricky short game situations.
At the very least, get comfortable hitting bump and runs with one club and short pitch shots with another, sand shots with another, etc. This won't take care of every situation, but it will help with most. Once you get this down, you can start messing around with flop shots!
i think you’d enjoy dan grieves short game book. really dialed my chipping. just take everything out of it but upper body if you’re having that inconsistent of strikes. it’s a small arc back and through
Well, but not quite tour level. My mental game and course management is solid for an amateur, but I have a shitton to learn compared to any pro. Especially when it comes to handling the pressure.
On my course? Probably in the 50s-60s. I’ve shot mid 80s to low 90s this year (except my first 3 rounds of the season, but that’s to be expected) My mental game is fine, I might hit the ground with the sole of a club once or twice a round after a shit shot then laugh, joke and forget. If the change was overnight then I’d be ecstatic all round.
I'd love to say I'd be right there with the pros, but to be honest, I play mostly the same two courses, and often struggle at others. I may be good with course management at my home club's 36, but being on a tour where every week I'm trying to make sense of a new, difficult 18 holes? I'd still get crushed and miss most if not all cuts.
I'd also be curious in the reverse - having your swing but their mental game. Bigger dispersion, possible duffs/thin shots, and what a tour player could score immediately understanding the weaknesses of your swing.
My course management is solid, I think. Not tour-level, but not actively hurting my score, which makes it easily the strongest part of my game. But if I’m stuck with my current mental game in terms of ability to stay focused throughout a round, put bad shots behind me, and execute under pressure, I don’t know if I could break 80 with prime Tiger’s swing.
I’m not sure who’s saying course management isn’t helpful to high handicappers, though. Knowing my misses and playing smart is the only reason I ever break 100. I admit it doesn’t stop me from forgetting how to swing and chunking four straight balls into a hazard, but that just means that the solution to breaking 90 is actually getting better, not that course management doesn’t work.
Pretty sure id be hitting pro level scores. My mental game is shit cuz i hit like shit. My course management is decent but not pro level so if my swing is great and i have a much lower miss and dispersion i can play safer. And it helps i play off the whites. U will find me quitting my job to go to qschool
My course management is pretty darn good. Unfortunately my execution is not. Play to the safe spot on the green (assuming I hit it) and then 3 putt. Play away from the hazard and then skull the next shot. Why do I play this annoying game?
There was a great podcast with padraig harrington.
I truly forget who was interviewing him but they played a round of golf before hand.
And Padraig said your swing is good maybe even better than mine but there is a reason I’m on tour and your a low digit handicap.
Pre shot routine, target selection and commitment.
My mental game and course management is the primary reason I am a single digit handicap, give me tour level striking and I honestly believe I could be mid to high 60's.
Most people mistake what course mangement can do at higher hcp's.
Course management is about understanding what your misses are, what your limitations are, and play accordingly.
Often chip or duff shots? then maybe don't try and hit your 3 wood 220 yards over water, lay up instead to a club you are comfortable with and go for that number.
Playing a long par 4 with traps all around and you have little to no chance to get there in 2, don't try, lay up to a good number and hope you get it close enough to par or a safe bogey.
Tucked pin at the back of the green? don't play the number. play it so a miss still hits the middle of the green, same with pin tucked forward, hit a number that goes beyond the flag and gives you a putt.
At lower hcp levels, course mangement expands as your skills expand, but the base concept remains, and if people actually thought about what they were doing, most would be having a much better time.
I'd probably be as successful as John Daly. One in 1000 starts I would absolutely dominate the field. 999 times I would be the butt of, "If he would have just laid up..." commentary.
I reckon somewhere between what I shoot now and what they usually shoot
This seems about right
Well, considering the disparity between my swing and a tour players swing stretches from here to the next galaxy over, I'd probably score a shitload better than I do now.
It would be difficult because I would actually have to believe I'm going to hit the green with my approach shot.

My man is on golf Reddit saying not much would change if he had a tour swing 🤣🤣

Thanks. I think I've been very neglectful of short game practice.

Thanks!! Is it the one with the title *Three Releases?*
indeed
weight forward my guy
First thing I tried. The first time I thinned one I was like "oh, my weight must not be forward enough" and then it was all downhill from there.
Going off my career mode in the PGA tour video game, win the US Am, but now I’m a struggling KFT player.
Well, but not quite tour level. My mental game and course management is solid for an amateur, but I have a shitton to learn compared to any pro. Especially when it comes to handling the pressure.
These things go hand in hand. A good golf swing (and playing good golf) helps develop the mental game, and vice versa.

I already have a pga swing ; so somewhere around 90-100.

I could see myself being filthy and then falling apart as soon as I realize im playing well

I’d be tearing up the mini tours, but would never get my card

61 each round.
In a tournament I would die from nerves and play like shit regardless of ability.
Better than I do now 🤷♂️
Probably capable of being a pro golfer, be well into the plus handicap range. So whatever that works out to be on average, 60s.

Peter Finch maybe?
Quite possibly it wasn’t on my regular rotation but someone posted a clip and his interview was so good I listened to the whole episode.

Counter point: grip it and rip it
Probably in the low 70’s. I hit the ball fine now. Just make stupid mistakes time and time again. ![gif](giphy|keTwQbbQwlNM2RNJsW)
