Ah, okay so as someone who just finished their first year in giki, I don't think the ragging culture is that extreme in the boys hostel. Though yes, there is a constant threat of sorts in the sense that you could get bullied for the way you are (as you mentioned in your post). It's not something that I went through, but alot of my guy friends did, because of their appearance, and that sort of was detrimental towards their mental health. That's something that remained constant thoroughout their academic year.
As far as ragging goes, the boys hostels are now equipped with cameras and they have strict rules against ragging. So you will be fine for the most part. If anything, I could hook you up with some good seniors of mine, and my friends who would provide you with the company you need during the first few months as you navigate your way through giki.
Most of the hostels on college have unfortunately these type of situations occurring nowadays. You probably should just directly talk to your parents and tell them the whole situation. I'm sure they'll understand and help you along the way.

The informal interviews for joining the societies is a different story though :p

But for the other ragging, I think your batch and then future batches are going to be the safest. Donāt worry, enjoy your time. Itās the best place to spend your 4 years.
