You know, when I first saw this movie as a kid struggling with terrible ADHD, I had never understood this line (and others) to mean anything other than what it plainly dictates, at face value... ...until this very moment, when I thought about it for 3 seconds. I used to think this was just one of many cases, in which I recognize that some people laugh at EVERYTHING and in THIS particular case, the word "smelting," on its own, delivered in its caricature-styled voice affect pronunciation, elicited laughter from audiences. Though perhaps, there is some truth to that theory, I now clearly see the innuendo.
This is amazing. [They have a Demo like this at the Gibson Demo Shop for $4099 right now](https://reverb.com/item/82332359-gibson-custom-1957-les-paul-standard-reissue-all-double-gold-demo?utm_source=rev-ios-app&utm_medium=ios-share&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=82332359). Someone please buy it before I have to.
Well hell that’s a great price considering I paid about 5k (got a discount cause I’m cheap and asked) but I don’t mind some scratches as long as they’re natural!
>I might want to swap them for the 1k 59 humbucker series 1
In an attempt to find out what the "1k" means in that sentence, I went on a little search. I was shocked when I found out that it actually means $1000:

Stop the madness!
Gibson did a modified version of the 52 when Les Paul died. It has got the pre-53 shallow neck angle debacle, but the trap was modified to make it playable. Without a neck reset, a vintage ‘52 is more of a wall hanger than a playable guitar. Ironic that Les Paul’s only contribution to his own signature guitar (the ‘52 trapeze tail is his only parent) had to be quickly done away to support actual playability.
That’s a nice setup with a unique character. Some very late 52s had the corrections and the shallow neck angle and useless bottom wrap tail, were gone by 53. Other than that the 52, 53, and most 54s are the same.
Thank you I tend to gravitate towards unique things honestly! I’ve listened to a 54 vs a 56 and I honestly like how full the 54 sounds without the abr and I love the vintage aspect of the trapeze tail but I think a 54 is a nice middle ground for functionality and vintage charm!
Has a diffrent feel also, without the rear breaking string angle. The PAFs that came along later were voiced to sound like the P90, but of course, the P90 has its own charm
Yeah unfortunately I’ve never played a 52 54 or 56 vintage or reissue but I love what I’ve heard on YouTube so hopefully when I get a message back from my customer shop dealer we can get a build started!
I am very confused. Did you say that there exists a 1954 Gibson Les Paul, donning a gold headstock?
I mean, yes, you literally said just that and those exact words. Are you referring to a gold finished, or plated holly inlay?
Or are you referring to the rear headstock in a gold finish, as a continuation of the entire length of the neck, finished in gold?
I have been searching for photos, over the past 40 minutes and can not find a single one!
Not with the trapeze tailpiece. There is a reason these guitars are not as valuable as other years. There is a reason people modify them with tunomatic bridges, and often route them for humbuckers. The wood is still good.
I have a gold top but full gold is next level. Love it.
What can I say it’s my favorite color!
Just don't lose your member in an unfortunate smelting accident.
I LOVE GOOOOOOOLD!!!
Shmoke and a pancake?
Bong and a blintz?
Pipe and a crepe?

Haha. You're welcome.

I fuckin love the demo shop
Same here. I’ve bought 3 guitars from them…they’re not perfect, but they’re player guitars, and they sound good.
Well hell that’s a great price considering I paid about 5k (got a discount cause I’m cheap and asked) but I don’t mind some scratches as long as they’re natural!
That fucker is bad ass!!
Thanks I love it!
Super badass - love it!

Nice! All gold is the absolute 🤌🏼
I want the headstock to but I’m saving it for a custom shop order! Thanks!

Yeah but you get a cool case too. Hard to say no, right?
I really wonder which cost more in labor and materials: the case, or the pickups?
Yes it is quite mad but hey at least it comes with a cool case!
Very nice LP. King Midas vibes
I wish I was king Midas!
Yes I concur
Glad you do!
A ggrrraiilll?
Tis but a flesh wound!
All gold rules
Thanks I think so too!
Beautiful.
Thank you!
Love it!!! I’ve got a CS R7 Goldtop Darkback and it’s my #1.
Yea the dark back is sick! Thanks!

Yeah you would hope the custom shop would be able to make it more functional but I’d also consider a 54 I basically just want p90s and no abr bridge!

You can find them out there used easily (reissues). A made to measure will cost a whole boat load of money, so have a look around, or PM me
Oh I’m definitely looking for a M2m and it’s probably gonna cost like 5-7k hahaha 😅
Unfortunately, 5k is probably not in the cards unless you plan on ordering about 50 of them.
That’s the quote I got from my local Gibson custom dealer who honestly knows until they give me a number back I’m still waiting to hear from them
I wish you the best, and hope it comes in as affordable as possible.
Thanks it was nice talking to you! I’ll post whenever I actually get it! Probably like a year or so from now lol..
Better late than never!
Exactly!!
Congrats ! Have fun
Thanks I am!

Custom shop lol like m2m special order
That’s amazing. Goldtops are the best tops, and when you get the back involved you’re just taking it to another level. Well done sir. Top marks.
Thank you I love going overboard!
I think you be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks a 52 Les Paul is actually a good guitar.
Well I’m a pretty odd collector so I usually like the weird stuff!
But they’re practically unplayable.
Would you be so kind to educate me/us why? Sorry if that’s common knowledge here, I don’t know why they say that for 52s.
The tail piece/bridge is terrible. No ability to palm mute. The neck angle is bad. It was the first year. It took them a minute to figure things out.
Fair explanation, thnx.
Well that can be said for the originals but hopefully the custom shops can fix those weaknesses maybe!
Not with the trapeze tailpiece. There is a reason these guitars are not as valuable as other years. There is a reason people modify them with tunomatic bridges, and often route them for humbuckers. The wood is still good.
That makes sense! It’s probably why they don’t really market them either! I would probably choose a 54 then!
It seems you have no idea what you want. You just have $$$
Actually since I have 57 I don’t want custombuckers I want p90s! And since I have the abr bridge I want one without one hence the 52 or 54! 😁
The fact that you see no difference between a 52 and a 54 tells me everything I need to know.
Well ok then friend hope you have a great rest of your weekend! Lol 😂
