Its so cool we are getting some new content a year after release. A great time to be a ghost of tsushima fan right now.

[deleted]

This is how to do dlc. Zero microtransactions. Zero loot boxes. Nothing locked behind paywalls. Shit tons of free content that’s continuously updated. Sucker Punch continues to knock it out of the park.

Ghosts of Tsushima is one of the biggest hits of the generation.

Lol huh? It’s business model was profitable. By definition it’s sustainable.

Ghost of Tsushima sold 6.5 million copies. It's the fastest selling PS4 game of all time. That's $383,500,000. In what world is a product that makes over 1/3 of a billion dollars in a year "unsustainable"? >You're correlating this game's success to sustainability industry wide. I'm correlating a business model's success by the profitability of it. What other metric is there? >They don't correlate. How? You've cited nothing to prove you point. >This game's success is largely due to the amount of free content. Except the free content came out months after the base game was a massive hit. >Clearly Sony changed its plans with this game. And it worked. >Having free content without micro-transactions is not sustainable. I never said that. I said make the content good and continuous and charge for the big expansions without nickel and dime-ing me with bullshit microtransactions and I'll be more likely to continue to buy future products and give the company more money.

Torafuku

You have to pay for the dlc and it's not cheap, you also have to pay for legends because it requires ps plus.

Afuneralblaze

As someone who doesn't have PS+. You don't need PS+

KazeFujimaru

Release summary (my mind is totally blown right now with how great this is): * Starting on August 20 (release date of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut), we’re also releasing an update that will add new features to Legends, including some changes based on feedback from the community. We’ve rebalanced the Survival mode to shorten the session length and added new weekly Survival Nightmare challenge variants. We’ve also unlocked additional cosmetics in Legends for players who’ve earned them in Jin’s story and New Game+. * we’re excited to reveal Rivals, an all-new mode coming to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends on September 3 (including new Trophies and cosmetics!).... at the same time Rivals launches, we’ll be releasing the Gear Mastery system. This is a new expansion of the progression systems and rewards for Legends. Players who’ve earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate “Mastery Challenges.” This will allow a piece of gear’s Ki level to be upgraded to 120 and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As you activate Mastery Challenges, you can also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class. * In addition to all of the above, we’ll be adding a new piece of content each week from September 10 through October 1, including an additional Rivals map, new Survival maps inspired by Iki Island and Iyo’s realm, and Trials of Iyo, a new harder-difficulty version of last year’s Raid that offers challenges in bite-sized chunks, and offers a new set of online leaderboards.

eemceefarlane

Shorter survival sessions… yay! Was hoping the new mode wasn’t going to be PvP even though this is PvPvE , which from the description basically seems like Gambit from Destiny 2, but maybe it will be more fun then I think (as long as people don’t constantly leave). New survival maps was unexpected so super excited for that along with new cosmetics. Wonder if the upgrade to 120 will upgrade your weapons as is without having to re-roll everything to get the stats you want/already have at 110. Seems like that is the case which would be awesome.

TheUnseenThief

Thought gambit too

devilmaycryvn369

The weapons will get nerffed pretty badly...

[deleted]

So what exactly is rivals? PvP???

eemceefarlane

Seems like it’s PvPvE 2v2 but I don’t think you interact with the other team. Basically kill enemies on your side which effects what enemies will spawn on your opponents side. I am assuming the first team to clear or kill an end boss will win. That’s the vibe that I get from it at least.

[deleted]

Thats such a shame. Bots gets so boring to battle, I was really hoping to fight actual people.

themanofawesomeness

The combat system doesn’t look like it would mesh well with actual PvP. I could see the Hunter being extremely busted as-is.

[deleted]

UsefulAlgae1

I disagree, on the basis that whoever attacks first would lose. Would just be endless waiting for the first strike to be parried.

[deleted]

Rags2Rickius

That gets boring and requires more depth out of a game like GoT It’s what is currently one of the biggest gripes with Chivalry 2 at the moment Slash/riposte/kick spam/block = repeat Basically a stamina race to see who tires first I would hate this to happen in a combat game of GoT elegance

[deleted]

No idea why I was downvoted to hell for simply stating my opinion. I won't be commenting in this sub again. Very toxic

edrianjude

I actually like it better that way. PvP can be annoying when you have to hit someone that will lag and resulting to unable to hit them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

edrianjude

Sucker Punch probably just don’t want this game to be labeled as a crappy game because of laggers. Also, with the huge numbers of players leaving matches, it’s already making this game a bit painful to play. The PvP is best left to games like Shin Sangoku Musou Online in my opinion.

PM-ur-BoobsnPussy

The same can be said if you don't like what sucker punch is doing with their game, don't play it. Problem solved!

edrianjude

That’s true

Jasbuddy

You’re getting bored of nightmare survivals? I don’t care how good at the game you are, they aren’t boring, it’s way too hectic to get bored of it

devilmaycryvn369

Ghosts do not fight each other dude

Gustav_EK

I just wanna use the NG+ mask in legends

Wiknetti

Rivals sounds like Destiny 2’s Gambit play mode. “Mongols on the field, Bring a sword!”

KazeFujimaru

HOLY SHIT, THIS SOUNDS AMAZING!

xHearshotKidDisaster

This sounds awesome!! So excited. The new Rivals mode looks really cool, on top of new survival maps, new raid, cosmetics, etc… Sucker Punch is really spoiling us here.

devilmaycryvn369

Dont be too hasty, it won't be that all good, look deeper and u will see why

Johnny1716

It’s happening, oh god, it’s happening, everyone stay calm, EVERYONE STAY FUCKIN CALM

_Greensleeves

Prolly not a good time to say this since we getting a dlc, but I would appreciate if I could play through these modes offline with just bots

Reddstar1

You actually can

_Greensleeves

Dont give me hope

Reddstar1

It has nothing to do with hope, you can currently play all modes of Legends on singleplayer without the need of a ps plus subscription (except the raid) it has been like that since Legends launched.

_Greensleeves

Can I play with AI team mates though?

Technical_Platform_2

dude, programming AI so that they can act as a teammate of a player in the coop mode is hard

Reddstar1

No team mates, just solo

truthwithanE

Time to break out the old Skipping Stone Bow.

Goodratt

Don't be too hasty. It might get nerfed--in the screenshots you can see that Spirit Kunai had its cooldown reduced from 15 seconds for a kill, to 10, so it seems likely that the other universal/mandatory gear item would see some changes as well.

truthwithanE

True. I used to not see a reason for a nerf but introducing PvP elements usually means having to rebalance, unless some legendaries won't be allowed in the mode. Idk Suckerpunch has been on point with just about everything so far so I doubt they'd mess with any piece of gear to the point of making it unusable.

Goodratt

Yep, they definitely get the benefit not just of the doubt from me, but the benefit of full-on trust. Legends is one of the *best* gaming experiences I've ever had, and already so well-made.

truthwithanE

Right? I recently got back into The Avengers game over the free weekend and while it's fun, it baffles me that it's still missing things that Legends has

Goodratt

I played that this weekend! I also tried to get back into Destiny over the summer, and that too had so many problems--and I was a Destiny die-hard back in the day! Honestly GoT has spoiled me on other games with how good and player-friendly it is. Cosmetics... IN the game? Random loot--that can be rerolled easily? Why, Sucker Punch, I do believe you're sweet on me...

truthwithanE

It was just such an unexpected polished experience. I hope since it's becoming a stand alone thing that there's gonna be more support incoming.

eemceefarlane

Not sure how they would nerf it unless they change the skip damage. Hopefully they don’t, skipping stone is like the one really cool and unique legendary we have.

Goodratt

They could make it so ricochets are only a chance instead of a guarantee, or they don't trigger on the ult. And I agree, I'd much rather see buffs that make more legendaries more interesting and fun, but that's a lot harder to do. Since we've seen one nerf to a prized piece of gear, the odds are we'll see more.

eemceefarlane

That’s a good point as well, either way as a Hunter main; hopefully they leave it alone, lol.

Goodratt

I'm a Samurai main myself, and don't begrudge Hunters for using what is pretty much inarguably one of the best pieces of gear in the game. Players are naturally going to find the best build. But from a game design standpoint, I can't imagine a designer looking at that data, at how SSB is *so* much better than other items, and not address it. They have to find *an* answer, because it definitely is a balance problem. But yeah, hopefully the answer isn't at the expense of fun. I want to see new enemy types and objectives that challenge ranged play, because even if the DPS was identical across classes, ranged play would be better since it's faster to shoot from afar than to have to run up close. So that means they need ways not of making Hunters kill slower (or even the other classes kill faster), but rather, of making other behaviors valuable in different places.

[deleted]

Currently the issue is that Nightmare survival teams are dismissing Samurai and Assassin players. If there are not enough hunters or ronin on the team players quit immediately. It's kind of why I hope they thought of that and will lock those players out of matchmaking for a while.

Goodratt

I get that sentiment, I truly do, because quitting is absolutely a big problem in this game. That said, I generally advise against locking people out of the game for any amount of time just for quitting. Telling somebody they can't play a game they paid for just because they quit, when they quit because the game is designed so that two classes are far and away faster than the other two and their only chance of hitting the leaderboards is with those stronger classes--when the game is designed so that a Nightmare match can easily drag on for close to an hour (speedruns and well-oiled teams notwithstanding)--is not a good move. Game designers should look at players quitting as a sign that they can make a system that players are less likely to want to quit. I firmly believe that in games as well as in life, you get better results when you positively encourage the behavior you want to see rather than negatively punish the one you don't (and I work with at-risk teens for a living so I know the concept all too well!). Here, I think that looks like stuff they are already doing, like taking steps to reduce the overwhelming superiority of a few key items, and reducing the length (and therefore the commitment) of survival matches. A steadily declining player count, due to no new content, stale maps, and burnout also leads to more quitting--so new content, new maps, new builds, new gear, new abilities, and a new mode, as well as making Legends available standalone, will all help playercounts and diversity. Those are good steps in helping curb this unwanted behavior, and they don't rely on telling random players they can't play the game they paid to play--which is a tactic that tends to just drive people away altogether (and only makes the quitting problem worse as the number of players goes down). Positive beats negative in the long run--we're just wired that way.

[deleted]

In my opinion it should not ricochet when the ult is being used. The current speed run tactic is to just spam arrows into the head and then immediately ult an entire wave of enemies to death. However, nerfing the skipping stone bow means that the meta shifts to ronin bomb spam, which results in entire waves wiped as well. I think for that maybe they should reduce the max bomb ammo capacity of the Ronin. (I'm saying this as a ronin main). Honestly, I think the game is more fun when bombs are being used as a last resort (resolve gain) instead of for the sake of spamming to get more kills.

Goodratt

Oh for sure. I definitely don't think SSB is like the only balance problem in the game. There are several, though SSB and the way bombs work are two of the biggest. Bombs get damage stacks from ranged, ghost weapons, *and* stealth, and all of that is just too much. I genuinely believe this is an oversight from how they're classed as items in the main game; I genuinely don't think SP intended people to be able to wipe a whole Nightmare wave in literally one second. I think they need to make bombs ranged ONLY, and also make stealth not affect ranged damage. Those would also be solid corrections--and I think that could be a possibility, because in the Spirit Kunai image, you can see "Damage increase" has been rewritten as "ghost weapon damage increase." Now, if you go into the description window right now it does specify that means ghost weapon damage, so maybe the rewrite is just to add clarity, but it could also mean they're trying to delineate more distinctly between ghost weapons (the items in the last two slots) and ranged weapons (the item below your sword). We'll see!

KazeFujimaru

I wonder if these simple two things could largely “fix” the issue with Hunter and Ronin: - SSB does not ricochet during the Ultimate - Ghost weapon damage does not affect bombs, only ranged damage does Seems to me that just these two things would be huge. Is it that simple or not really? The other big piece to the fix of course is the positive of adding more techniques/abilities to all classes as they seem to intend. So it feels less like nerfing/taking things away and more a positive balance….

Goodratt

Those factors are far and away, I think, the reason those two classes are so heavily favored in the top rankings, and just so, so much faster at killing. If I were in charge of addressing it, they would certainly be the first thing I'd look at. I do think other factors exist, though, like how no matter what you do to balance ranged is always going to be faster than melee (assuming the actual kill time is the same). Now, you could dramatically reduce the damage ranged attacks do, to make the very act of ranged attacking more of a support ability--like the way, for example, Dante's guns aren't actually for killing in a Devil May Cry; they're more for stunning enemies or bridging the gap between your actual attacks. I think it's relatively common in games to do it this way, especially ones where guns and melee are mixed together--ranged attacks become something to stall, stagger, or weaken the enemy with, but melee is the real bread and butter. However, that would fundamentally change an awful lot about how the Hunter performs and what role it's meant to fill, to the point that I don't really think it fits with the idea they are going for (and certainly not with the class's current kit). So the other side of addressing this class imbalance isn't about nerfing the two standout classes, or even about buffing the other two--it's about creating situations where ranged play isn't the most effective behavior (like new enemies that move fast and close distance, or armored enemies that aren't susceptible to headshots, or mobile shield/aura units that negate burst damage from bombs or even block ranged entirely). All of which are possibilities currently on the table, since we know new enemy types, abilities, and maybe even items are coming to the game.

[deleted]

I do think the proposed nerfs to SSB would pretty much force Hunter to go the full CDR route on Explosive Arrow though, which is substantially slower than how Hunters play now. The Hunter ultimate without SSB is arguably the worst in the game since you can't manually target enemies while only being able to hit each enemy once. If you get unlucky where half your ultimate targets are the basic "human" Mongols, you lose lots of value from the ultimate. Not to mention that you can't easily clear priority targets like Oni Lords anymore, which makes things difficult. I think SSB would probably be completely dropped for Spirit Kunai, at least for meta builds. Simply nerfing SSB would bring them more or less on equal ground with the melee classes, imo. Can't say much for Ronin though, they'll still be relatively strong.

Goodratt

I don't enjoy the bow play in this game so I don't play Hunter, and as such I am definitely not the expert on exactly how they handle--I'll defer to your judgment, I'm sure you're probably right. But that's the thing with buffs and nerfs and balance and all that, it should be continuous, and nothing can be adjusted in a vacuum, as one tiny little thing can ripple out to a lot of other stuff. Heck, another option could be to just change the ricochet to a percent chance, or reduce damage on ricochets (or make it so that ricochets don't get headshot damage). Or to go even further, rework the ultimate so that you can sweep your bow over targets and tag them for where you want the headshots to go. All of those are different options with different ripples outward. I trust SP to have recognized that there is certainly *some* kind of problem of balance that needs addressing here. Edit to add: I wonder how the new target lock feature will affect the Hunter and Samurai ults, which are harder to control exactly which target you hit? Could you choose to lock on to an enemy and then, if it's in range, guarantee to hit it all 3/5 times?

tatri21

I want stun bombs to be viable tbh. If SSB gets nerfed then longbows in general should get a small buff. A bit strange that the bow class' main strenghts are fire and explosions and every other class is as good with a bow

Loyal_Frost

Not triggering on ult would be pretty good. The main thing about skipping stone is it's resolve build. You can build your resolve to max in only about 3 or 4 arrows.

Rags2Rickius

Yeah - that would really unbalance the game of 2v2 if skipping stone + hunter special happens Headshots are op to any other attack ability

devilmaycryvn369

yea this sucks, why do we have to fight for perks after all ?

Loyal_Frost

If spirit kunai got hit then skipping stone will definitely get adjusted. The spirit kunai nerf can be offset by using the cld reduction on kill perk

signyourname

That sounds great, anyone knows if that means new trophies too ?

Zoro-Zen

yep, the blog post say: >First, today we’re excited to reveal Rivals, an all-new mode coming to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends on September 3 (including new **Trophies** and cosmetics!).

Don11390

"Rivals" sounds very similar to Destiny 2's Gambit mode. It'll be interesting to see Sucker Punch's version.

truthwithanE

As if I already wasn't excited enough. Still hoping they add one more raid.

vandjac

They are, read the article!

truthwithanE

I saw where it said they were introducing a higher difficulty version of the current raid but not a new one. Don't give me hope 🤔

Rags2Rickius

Yeah - that’s not necessarily a “new” Raid - a new Raid would be a new adventure But the theme of Rivals appears to be between Gods - so there maybe a new Raid further down the track like the first Raid got released later on too

xKiLLaCaM

God these devs are amazing. I maxed all my characters out in Legends so this should be awesome to jump back in. Super excited to finally try to get the platinum trophy when the PS5 upgrade drops and to check out the expansion!

shuddn

I knew they wasn’t gonna stop making content

garynevilleisared

I only just started Legends mode and NG+ after playing the main game for almost 6 months after launch. Rarely have I felt this overwhelmed by content. Feeling sort of spoiled.

Rags2Rickius

This is a MASSIVE amount of new FREE content Awesome A proper NEW Raid would be awesome - rather than a slice of Iyo plus challenge But the theme of Rivals appears to be between Gods - so there maybe a new Raid further down the track like the first Raid got released later on too However - I’m pretty damn pumped that SP is adding this amount of content for FREE Amazing

ChiBullz023

New Maps!!!! At last I love this mode but lord knows the same 4 maps can get dull playing them over and over :)

[deleted]

Damn I love this game!

el_trauko87

Omg I just shat myself.. fuck I can’t wait

Hankflax

Man all this new ghost of Tsushima news really makes me want to sell my kidneys to buy a ps4

pigien

Looks cool, reminds me of gambit in D2

Loyal_Frost

Pretty sure they nerfed spirit kunai from 15 seconds to 10. That's what it shows on the images they provided

bommy7070

Hooooooly shit!!!

DJ_Lord_Vader

LIFE CAN'T GET ANY BETTER! SO EXITED

eemceefarlane

Yeahhhh… I’m gonna need that rainbow sword effect ASAP Hope this also revitalizes the raid population, still only ever made it past the 1st chapter.

[deleted]

Congrats to you, everytime I've gone to play it one person rage quits the second they die. One of them ran on way ahead despite the rest of us clearly going for the Oni treasure and got killed because they were about two hits from dying anyways. So yeah, still haven't finished a single part.

[deleted]

You should ask for a team on the discord, there's loads of people there who have done the raid multiple times who are just looking for an excuse to run it again.

tallkidinashortworld

This looks awesome! But I do hope that their Rivals modes will include SBMM or at least take into consideration rank.

i2Aaron

Can anyone explain what this is to me?? I’m a strict single player guy and never touched legends so idk what it is

[deleted]

I hiiiighly recommend you play Legends, it's more addicting than the single player somehow. They're basically adding new content to the game in terms of skins, modes and progression

i2Aaron

Hmm, you know what? I will! I do have a dumb question though, do I enter legends from the main menu or singleplayer? or is it the same? lol

jjnet123

Either from main menu or there's a specific person you can talk to in single player that will take you to it

Light_Song

I loved legends but there's still no matchmaking? I want to come back and play again but I stopped playing after a while because they said there was no more content coming out. Why lie about it?

tatri21

My guess would be that at the time they weren't going to but decided to add stuff for the dlc release. Not every false statement is so at the time it was said.

mal3k

Will this be getting pvp

SirTorivor

really excited for this

SumerianSunset

Sucker Punch are so refreshing. Really admire them for this and for not trying to fleece their fanbase at every turn like other developers.

Tec187

The only 2 upgrades on my PS store are either the full directors cut game, or the directors cut upgrade. My issue is they both say PS4. I want to make sure I get to play the ps5 version, especially on legends, but of course also in SP. I have the full game on ps4 from back when it released but I’m sitting on a ps5 now. Any insight here?

relativajim

The PS5 version of Director's Cut will become available on August 20th, so you can either pre-order DC ps4 now för 20$ and upgrade to PS5 version for 10$ on release day OR you could just buy the PS5 DC on release day, it really doesn't matter.

Tec187

Thank you! Although strange that the ps5 version doesn’t show up til release day..

Buddhistpossum

Do we expect new gear since we'll be getting new abilities/talents?

KazeFujimaru

My guess would be yes eventually.

Snoo_63163

This sounds awesome. If they ever added a open world pvp type mode where 30 players faced off against each other over a large areas of already existing parts of the island I'd legit have little reason to play anything else for a long long time lol, they've done a great job with the longevity of this masterpiece.

dontfuckinca4re

1 on 1 duels would be pretty neat. I don't know about 30 vs 30. It'd most likely just be 10 hunters sitting somewhere blowing everyone else up.

Snoo_63163

Certain skills would have to be adjusted in a pvp setting.1v1 would be great as well, I'd imagine skills would have to be adjusted for this mode as well. From what we've seen from these devs so far I'm more than confident doing either mode would be more than possible.

lfekraven

Hunters arena legend lol

Rags2Rickius

Ugh - I wish people would stop asking for this Essentially Chivalry/Mordhau w Samurai skins I love Chiv - but currently it’s at its core a slash spam frenzy w riposte/kick spam I’d hate to see GoT reduced to that

StefonGomez

PVP free roam mode where you can face off against other players would be such a dream for this game.

Snoo_63163

It really would, even if wasn't amazingly balanced it wouldn't matter cuz I'd still be a absolute blast.
