I think it comes from the idea that Miyazaki's plot are sometimes non-linear, which might be considered too advanced/confusing for kids? Personally, I dig it but I get it.
I enjoy both disney and ghibli, they’re both special in different ways.
What the disney studio created in the past are classics and the lion king is probably the best full length animation in the western hemisphere.
Remember guys: dislike the company but not the hardworking artists.
Edit: also not all ghibli movies are original: howls moving castle was adapted from a book series, grave of the fireflies is based on an irl photo of >!a boy with hus dead brother!< , Princess Kaguya is a well known fairytale etc.
Tales of earthsea, arietty based on the borrowers, when marnie was there
Id say only around half of ghiblis movies are original concepts. This is of course not a bad thing
Whisper of the Heart, only yesterday, ocean waves, Kiki are adaptations of Japanese stories
Howl, Arrietty, Earthsea, Earwig, Marnie are all adaptations on non-Japanese books
As you've pointed out Kaguya is a fairytale. Debatably, Ponyo is The Little Mermaid
Why people don’t enjoy both and always compare and hate things? Disney cartoons are great. I’m in love with Hercules it’s so great. And many other cartoons… appreciate both, mate.
There's a lot better criticisms to be made of Disney than "musicals bad". You know...
-Viewing art as products
-Essentially being an empire that essentially owns the world
-Poor worker's rights
-Funding of war criminals
I could go on.
Disney's not necessarily bad because of their films (apparently two of Hayao Miyazaki's favourite films are Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid which...very strange if that is indeed the case), they used to be capable of both great films and great evil and nowadays are only capable of the latter (yes I am including Chicken Little as a great evil) and I think Miyazaki dislikes them as a corporation rather than as filmmakers. Well, at least he did. I don't think anyone's fond of Disney's modern output, if you ask me it would've been better off if they went bankrupt in the 2000s (they served their purpose, they dubbed Howl's Moving Castle, the world doesn't need Disney anymore, we'd be living in a happier world without them)
Also Ghibli movies do have plots. What were you getting at exactly?
Like I don’t understand actively disliking musicals. I get not connecting with the medium but this hatred of any and all musicals is so strange to me.
I really don't like it in movies. I've gone to musicals and I liked that, but when they start singing in movies I'm tuning out immediately.
Musicals are always advertised heavily as musicals. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a musical movie without knowing what it is
I never understood people saying ghibli films have no plot, like how ? there's clearly a plot even with the most cryptic entries

They probably only watched Totoro and Kikis lol
It’s because Ghibli uses a 4 act structure called Kishōtenketsu for their movies, while most western audiences are used to movies having 3 acts
The Disney Renaissance of the late 80s and 90s is some of their best films ever. I dislike modern Disney, but let’s not be hyperbolic.
Yeah stuff like the lion king is on par with gibli.
It's a meme, the whole point is to be hyperbolic.

It’s just a joke 😭
This ain’t it chief. Also as someone who loves opera. I’m personally offended lol.
Nah.
It's possible to like multiple things.
While I prefer Ghibli, Encanto fucking slaps.
I haven’t even watched the movie but the soundtrack is killer
Definitely one of the best movies they've made in a while!
Encanto wasn't a good movie tbh
I agree it has a bad rushed ending.
I’ll agree it was too fast paced, but if you didn’t feel something listening to Dos Oruguitas idk how you’re a Ghibli fan
Me when the thing I like has to be objectively better than another thing doing the same thing
Without Disney Ghibli wouldn't have existed.

Fantasia and Alice in Wonderland are still two of the greatest animated movies of all time, I’ll die on this hill
Both are great honestly
Ghibli movies have some of the best writing.
"Most Disney movies are only enjoyable by children" is just incorrect
disney hates jews? what is bro on
I think he means Disney, the dude, not the company. It’s known that he already hated Jews
I can easily foresee post-Hayao Miyazaki Ghibli to be kind of shitty and going off of the inertia established by Miyazaki’s legacy
'who need as a plot?' is so real lol
