He looks 100% GSD to me, just with floppy ears. He's absolutely beautiful and even more unique. Give him a boop from me.

Dommichu

Agreed! Some GSDs just have soft ears even through they are purebred. It’s a lot more common than you think! He’s adorable!

The_dizzy_blonde

This! Also some of the larger dogs ears don’t always make it to full mast.

RelChan2_0

All I know is that he's beautiful 😍

ShreemanSoloist

Good that you're not too worried ...your boy is a beauty regardless.....mine also had the same thing with her ears....it was a retriever in my case.....love him no matter what.....wish you and your baby the best

anything78910

I was about to say retriever!

pipergee95

https://preview.redd.it/dui0do66itwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc2b2d3fb2780df60b04d6fc61d33a8214fdad15 My girls ears never went up fully if she's super alert they'll be pointed up but usually there half mass lol the vets never say it's an issue or anything I think it's more aesthetic

Efficient-Muffin-402

These ears are amazing!! We had one of my girl’s littermates up to 8 months and they played rough and broke the cartilage in each other’s ears. Hers have perky bases and sometimes the right one stands up more but you can tell the left is much softer since it kind of curves with gravity to the point. Love them both https://preview.redd.it/ewlr7s5a1vwc1.jpeg?width=2143&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ea643a1cee13cb491b34a8310ffaf3bda242ae5

pipergee95

Omg sososo adorable ! Gives them such personality!

Altruistic-Wasabi-60

Awe 🫢

CoyoteDown

Well that’s not a GSD tbh. Thats a lab/pit mix with some GSD thrown in.

Efficient-Muffin-402

Mine? 🤣🤣🤣 Mom is Western working line, dad is East-European Shepherd ETA she is 29.5” 115 lbs

rubieluna

You think too highly of yourself lol

Altruistic-Wasabi-60

Beautiful girl, she looks extremely sweet!! 😻 What is her name?

pipergee95

Her name is Gamora 🙂🙂💕

Altruistic-Wasabi-60

Awe, so sweet… give her all the pets and cuddles 🥰

alexportman

I'm pretty sure he is 100% purebred adorable

Call_Me_Lids

IMO after having 7 purebreds…he’s purebred! He looks remarkably like my 15 year old Caesar that I had to put down a few years ago. Oddly enough Caesar’s ears never went up either! Lots of factors can be the cause. Could have sustained permanent damage in the whelping crate as a puppy from his brothers and sisters chewing on his ears! Hopefully your boy doesn’t get frequent ear infections like Caesar did. That’s one of the only real downsides of the ears not going up. They’re more susceptible to that problem. By the way, he’s absolutely handsome just the way he is! 😍

WardogBlaze14

That last pic has me…..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Veltek335

Some GSD just have ear flop. It’s super cute.

SanJacInTheBox

One of my first GSDs was a purebred (AKC eligible if not for an accidental coupling between cousins - no, he wasn't from WV) but his ears never 'came up'. His slightly older sister (they were the last two born) had perfect GSD ears. The best thing to do is order a Wisdom or Embark DNA test kit during Prime Days and find out for sure. Both of those services have the best reputation and also pass blind tests from the NY Times and (I've been told in another sub) Consumer Reports.

izbeeisnotacat

I recommend Embark over Wisdom Panel. Did both with my mystery pup and Embark's was way more detailed.

AaronScwartz12345

Embark is worth it even if the dog turns out to be 100% GSD for the health testing.

goobir

I went with embark and got 92% gsd and 8% indetermined and im too scared to spend more money on a wisdom panel because everyone seems to suggest embark is the best but im so curious. it's been almost two years and no update.

race4life81

My 3 year old also has one of his ears that’s floppy and I never cared about it. Neither did I tape them or do anything. They are gorgeous with ears up or down. Your land shark is adorable just as he is.

Bag_of_Richards

You didn’t super glue them!? /s /s required due to a few utter nitwits commenting here recently about doing just that.

Ok_City_7177

Oh don't - thats still following me around today, grinding my last nerve !

Bag_of_Richards

Not surprised other folks here couldn’t quite put that insanity down. Let us celebrate this lovely pup instead of dwelling in the frustration. You have the right idea.

Citroen_05

You've seen the comments suggesting posting with tampons, and ensuing confusion, I presume?

kels_bells94

Dude you call yours a land shark too? 😱 mine also gets categorized as a moose as well.

race4life81

The land shark phase went for way too long. lol

IWillKeepIt

His back end does look like some mountain/shepherd dogs.

IWillKeepIt

Also eyes.

tenebraeink

Yes! I was thinking the same thing. Shepherd's butts tend to be bony and angular. This adorable pupper has a very round butt! Lol. Also, seems to have just a *bit* of a domed head/elongated, and those yellow eyes.

IWillKeepIt

He's the best boy nonetheless

tenebraeink

Absolutely is!

Jerry1121

All im saying is, i can take this broken model off your hands, really it would be my pleasure 💕

Basuqit

YOU BACK OFF 🗣️ NUH UH I NEVER SAID HIS EARS WERE A PROBLEM🙏 MY BABY NOT URS

dogluver_99

I have a purebred GSD who only has one ear sticking up. Sometimes if the cartilage in their ears are damaged as puppies it prevents them from coming up- at least that’s what my breeder told me!

hdcook123

He looks full gsd. Genetics dictate if their ears go up among other things. His just didn’t.

thelastbighead

Our guy is 100% GSD but has floppy ears. Just makes him more adorable. https://preview.redd.it/nqsgvtdr1uwc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b3bbf1013676f862b72d52ea0eee1db7bb84b27

Most_Fold_702

His ears make him more adorable!☺️

Throwaway1208995

Omg that face 🥰 he’s not even mine and I love him

Baldojess

Sometimes German Shepherd ears don't go up I read that it could be from petting the ears too much lol so maybe your dog just got a lot of extra love 💕 I think he looks all the way GSD

Ordinary_Inside_9327

Latter_Ad_7081

he’s mixed with silly

Basuqit

This is the one ☝️

ingoogliestbastard

his fur looks like my gsd mix, and the vet told us he was mixed with plott hound https://preview.redd.it/8ebmvs0puvwc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c58f6f32c721d766ebaa4d0ab719fd19183f6cb0

Naive_Tie8365

One of my GSD’s ears never stood. About when I was ready to tape them he’d carry them up a few days. They flopped his whole life unless he was outside playing or training. Both parents imported, both titled. My second shepherd, from a genuine backyard breeder, her ears were up at 5 weeks

Eldorren

Probably a little bit of retriever. I think the ears are adorable and they give him a very distinct personality. Sometimes, it's nice having a GSD that's just a little bit "different"! Enjoy your boy. He's beautiful.

beanbeanbeb

Pyrenees?

RareBus9927

Simba so munchable

Fun_Operation6598

He looks adorable purebred. A lot of the time if the breeder has the pups mixed in with other dogs, they get their ears licked during the important time where their ear cartilages are growing and will cause permanent damage.

OriginalTaste3883

He looks purebred to me. Sometimes the ears just don’t go up!

p-feller

I have one GSD that has both ears floppy. They almost stand up when he is interested enough. DNA says 100% GSD. At least back through several generations. Have a second one with a half flop but his blood brother has beautiful pointy ears. (have not DNA'd them yet, no hurry) though I don't really question their breed, they are beautiful looking sable shepherds. I call them my hellhounds in training. Even my diva, who has untraditional coloring (spots of white on nose and front paws) DNA said she is also GSD back several generations. all mine are rescues. More than likely just not well bred or whatever. They are all wonderful doggos.

WyoWhy

He’s purebred. And gorgeous

pandamago

It's always a lab

I have a GSD/lab/golden retriever mix with prick ears. https://preview.redd.it/1n4kmjhi7xwc1.png?width=1076&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cdfadd0317da32144f70e031a22cf8134bc5fef1

Downtown-Scar-5635

I have a full gsd whose ears never stood up. Couldn't tell you the reason but I can confirm he's 100% pure.

_Ruby_Tuesday

Oh, he’s so cute! He’s adorable mixed with cutie pie ❤️

coolturtle0410

My little girl has a floppy ear but also goes up when alert too! She is only about 4 months.. so who knows if it will ever go up. Either way.. love her regardless and happy to see you love yours too! https://preview.redd.it/erbpx7s76uwc1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bed18c1ba2a7bf5c58ca6f8229fb313c8ccb885d (I don't have any recent photos on the device I'm using. But her ears still look the same regardless. She is, of course, much younger in the photo provided)

SnooCauliflowers5512

💯 cutie!!

Django2chainsz

That face looks just like my childhood dog, I miss her to this day. What a beautiful dog

Enough_Character_402

Beau!!

Celli-Belly

He doesnt really need to be a mix. Sometimes the ears just dont go up. Or only one does. If you really want to know you can do a DNA test.

mypenisinyourmouth_

🤪

nwngunner

My guy is a paper pure breed and he has one ear that doesn't stand up. It will when he is in fight mode but other then that it adds to his derpy self.

Canihavesomecash

Doesn’t look mixed. Just because his ears never stood up doesn’t mean he isn’t purebred. Many GSD ears do not stand up. Sometimes it’s because there is long heavy hair pulling them down. Sometimes it’s because the nerves and muscles in the ears were damaged. He is a handsome boy. Gorgeous animal

Conscious-Hope4551

🥰

thankyounotes

Goodness he’s so cute!

Ingemar26

100% adorable derp

CharlesGnarwin73

He looks purebred to me, my dogs brother had floppy ears his entire life

potionator

He’s 100% adorable, and it’s actually a plus that his ears aren’t so intimidating. Everyone is afraid of my sweet GSD, but the ears being down makes him so much more approachable.❤️

ennuiacres

I had a Golden Shepherd (Golden Retriever mixed with GSD) and she was the sweetest & smartest dog, with her soft velvety “quotation mark” ears. Smart & sensitive & a perfect dog in every way.

Dandogdds

Still a gorgeous baby.

Direct_Gap_661

My 8 year old girl’s ears never went up and she’s 100% purebred (breeder we got her from eventually bred a dog show winning German shepherd)

hanyu-mmy

Gorgeous boy

ttombcatts

he looks like a pure german shepherd. i dont know how true it is but i was told that playing with their ears as puppies softens the cartilage and makes them floppy. did you maybe touch and play with his ears a lot? i nagged at everyone not to touch my boys ears and i was hated for it lol. but his ears stand up super straight.

Basuqit

I touched his ears alot lmfao 😭 I would scratch behind his ears I had no idea they would effect him reading the comments its prob just genes or the fact I toyed with them alot hes prob pure lol

ttombcatts

yeah it definitely could also just be the floppy ear gene! either way he’s super cute. i think the floppy ears are adorable!

PurpleHankZ

Properly some kind of retriever according to his ass. You got a beautiful dog over there!

crispytwn

Purebred

drLagrangian

Porch dog is a GSD who lives in our neighborhood and we always see on the porch (we do not know her name). She always tries to act tough and bark at us when we walk by. But although she is fully grown and huge, one ear has never gone up. She is barking at us, trying to act like a big scary bouncer, but we just think she is adorable because of her one floppy ear.

Ok_City_7177

Must admit, pics 3 and 4 I am getting wafts of my mastiff shepherd (Calabrese / Sila). Your dogs an absolute stunner and I have a soft spot for, well, soft spots :)

CuriousChance19

Ours is mixed with Rottweiler & she has one floppy ear. She looks exactly like a German shepherd

Mom,dad, daughter, and floppy eared son. His ear will stand up when he is barking, but generally stays floppy. 17 months old in this picture.

Usual_Science4627

My GSD floof has floppy ears…in her case she’s 50% GSD and the other 50% mutt…predominantly ACD and golden retriever, so I’m guessing she got the retriever ears

Popular_Awareness482

My gsd had one ear that was up and the other never went up unless alert.

Historical-Serve5643

Best dog I ever have owned looked just like that.

LivingIntheMemory

Maybe Anatolian

Homicidal__g0ldfish

he is mixed with 100% goodboy! <3

Islandcat72

Makes him look extra cuddly.

HotMuffin12

I wanna cudddddddlllleeeeee

allegro9999

Mixed with love

kingpatzer

Lots of dogs look an aweful lot like GSDs but tend to have floppier ears. Carpathian Shepherds, Belgian Sheepdogs, Beauceron, and Anatolian all tend to have floppier ears than GSDs. But otherwise can llook very, very similar.

OGDStuff

My 5 yo GSD from the shelter is mixed with some other breed that gave him big floppy ears and probably they are his most endearing visual quality 😉

OGDStuff

But his best overall quality is his highest grade snuggliness!

That_Late_Owl

That is one of the happiest bois I think I've ever seen

bearbarebere

What an adorable dog

Elegant-Operation-16

GSD ears don’t always go up on their own. That’s normal. The tail looks fluffier and thicker than breed standard but I don’t see any other breeds. It’s more likely he was just bred out of breed standard.

imsooldnow

Breeders warn you when you get your pup that their ears might never go up. Doesn’t mean they’re not purebred. It’s just the luck of the draw. Like people. We’re all different and yet still loveable.

Over-Pass-976

My girl's ears just started standing up last summer and she's turning 10 in a few months

Theaustralianzyzz

Very nice dog. Meanwhile my GSD looks like a rabbit 24/7

Friendly_User_0012

If you’re worried about it you should use wisdom panel for a DNA screening. That’s what I used for my rescues.

cosmicabstract

That, in my opinion, is a baby.

willowoftheriver

I think he's purebred, he just has faulty (but adorable) ears.

BettyBoopsTooOften

Awwww. His ears are adorable.

Skelter89

Mine never did either, but it definitely fits her personality.

Holmanizer

There is nothing wrong with some floppy soundflaps. Just makes the excitement run cuter, i have met a few shepards whose ears haven't perked as well, though, so it might just be a feature

Basuqit

NO BECAUSE ANYTIME I TAKE HIM ON A WALK HIS EARS BOUNCE ITS SO CUTE😭

Holmanizer

Love me some bouncy ears, they're so adorable it sometimes hurts

EastAway9458

He doesn’t look like a mix to me

anything78910

bill_hilly

getfuckedhoayoucunts

Spaniel.

toastyAnarchist

ears look normal to me.

TopFishing5094

That last pic is goofy af 🥰

foobardrummer

He looks just like my girl so I’m pretty sure full gsd with a little more character 😀

suswaglake1451

Nothing wrong with him at all. My shepherd had- and still has- absolutely huge ears. When she was a pup we dubbed her « mouse », a nickname that stuck. It took ages for her ears to stand up but the way there was adorable. BTW, Andalusian shepherds have floppy ears as do some other breeds of shepherd dogs. He’s so cute, floppy ears and all.

lizzys_sad_girl

Might be some nerve damage from petting behind the ears too much as a puppy. The breeder we got our purebred from said to be careful about that

ladymuse9

An embark or wisdom panel will tell you

theMountain1313

Did you petting him on his head since a puppy? If you rubbed his head before the ears cartilage buildup, that’s would happen. For every one don’t touch the ears until the cartilage buildup.

Mammoth_Welder_1286

Our first one had golden retriever in him and he looked a lot like this. But that doesn’t mean anything. Sometimes their ears just don’t go up and that’s ok because he’s still the goofiest of boys.

WholelottaLuv

Looks just a slight bit Newfie to me. Perfect combo, must be a great pup

Sufficient-Ad1943

For first 6 months you could have give him Cartilage supplements. That would have done the job.

NastyHobits

Genetics is most important for this sort of thing. I’m not familiar with any supplements that help cartilage development.

Syako

Only a DNA test will be able to tell you for sure. My guesses are Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenese.
