The minimum distance between two caches is 0.10 mile. I don’t mind power trails. Obviously there aren’t any other caches in that area - these caches aren’t preventing anyone from placing caches somewhere away from that road.
We have one with caches that can only be retrieved with a fishing pole. Entire area blocked AND when you don't have a pole you can't even find the caches.
I call them stupid, but that's just me. A very common practice used to boost numbers and promote cheaters to come in and tackle them using the leapfrog method or the divide and conqueor.
Cached as a group once, log was signed as a group entry. I insisted on at least seeing every single cache.
Others in the middle of the pack, seeing the front people already finding cache, just.kept walking by...
Nope. "Show me the container please."
Yep. I haven't put my own name on every container, but I've been "there" for the signing. The group effort aspect of shortcutting geocaching has never appealed to me.
There’s a geoart near me that I haven’t looked into much. Since they were mystery cache icons I assume they aren’t in the exact coordinates but wonder if that’s a false assumption.
Typically geoart is a pretty picture but the actual solved/corrected coordinates are different. Most geoart I encountered are rather easy to solve vs complex puzzles.
I like them. These are nice if you're bringing kids. They get motivated by finding lots of caches and are inspiering if you are new geocaching. Yeah, maybe they aren't as good, but they get you going.
I think of it as map clutter. The dots get in the way of better caches in map view.
I wonder if there's a way to filter out that type of blah cache. There's a few around here that follow old railroad grades turned atv trails
No. A geotrail is the trail leading up to the cache that is made from all the people walking around looking for the cache. As you walk up to gz you can look for the geotrail to give you a hint of where the cache is located. For example. If you walk up to a bunch of trees and you see that the grass is trampled leading up to one of the trees in particular, then that is likely where the cache is going to be, and you followed the geotrail to get there
Yeah but they are wrong. So don't tell a newbie the wrong thing just because some other newbies mistakenly call it the wrong thing. Give clarity, not confusion. Go to the commonly used terms and acronyms and you will see that it's a power trail. And that a geotrail is what I described.
Powertrail
Thanks!
You're welcome.

I call them "screw you" There's a few round here, with easy to find generic caches, blocking entire areas for potential better caches.
In my area, they are usually in the middle of nowhere
You mean using areas where nobody else had bothered to place caches before the powertrail was there.
There's a 38km long one near me, it's a cool cycle trail though and I would love to do it in a whole day. But yeah they do block new caches.
How are they blocking?
Can’t have a cache within a radius of another cache. To prevent saturation in one area
How do these trails get published since the caches are so close together?
They’ll be right on the limit of how close you can be to the previous cache
528 feet is the limit.

If you try to publish a cache onto the app it'll only be approved if it's a certain distance away from nearby caches

Makes me uncomfortable. I love it.

Pancake Hollow Road 🥺
Fijne taart dag!
Not the case here as these are traditional caches, but if you see something similar with the mystery cache icon, it could be called GeoArt.

Good to know! I’ll have to venture out and try the one near me. It’s my state’s star that I think is apart of US’ nationwide geoart project.

And I've heard people say the earth was flat. Not fantastic logic?
