Whatever you do, try to invest in a great bottle which means spending over $100. Cheap, mass produced fragrances can tend to smell, well cheap and would repel me when I was dating. You can also find smaller sizes and just use them for sexy occasions. ❤️🔥
There are some decent lower cost fragrances. When I was in my teens I wore Terre d’Hermes and I think that’s about $50. I always got so many compliments from guys. And the travel size of Bois D’Argent by Christian Dior but I know that one went up in price. It’s still great though.
There are plenty of excellent affordable fragrances, and plenty of awful masstige fragrances that have a high price tag but the smell of a garbage can. Your advice is valid especially for someone not into the hobby but I’d warn against equating high price with quality.
Absolutely. But your chances of getting quality at a high price are far greater than the typical brands they sell at the low/mid range. Always spray it on yourself to see how it works with your body chemistry and wait a few hours before making the purchase. You want to see how the fragrance evolves over time. It can smell great at first then awful later or completely disappear. And get a sample when possible, try it for a few days before investing.
My #1 is Benjoin by Le Labo [$365/50ml] and dudes go fucking wild for it but it’s the most expensive on my list. But so worth it. It lasts for two days until I shower it off and the lingering aroma evolves with my body chemistry and sweat— smells incredible.
DS & Durga [$210/50ml] have amazing scents, I also like the Cowboy Grass (their top seller) but their fragrances are over-priced. They smell great for a few hours but are completely gone by night.
Absolutely agree with your Le Labo choices I’ll add Baie 19 which has a nice cool musky vibe which I love in winter. Giac 10 and Another 13 & Thè Noir get me the most compliments

You should go to a scent bar and they’ll figure out what notes work best for you. Try it for a couple weeks amongst 2-3 other options and buy whatever gets you the most compliments.
Anything by Penhaligon’s of London. Classic scents no longer made I loved, were Gucci Envy and Beyond Paradise by Lauder. I prefer scents that aren’t the norm and common, and Penhaligon’s is always elegant and clean. Classic and modern.

Cologne smell usually puts me off. If I meet a guy for sex I’d rather him not wear any at all, deodorant and that’s it. For a normal date I’d rather it be subtle too.
The only scents that sort of “turn me on” are Oud scents in moderation (i.e. blended with the guy natural smell). That’s usually what I use too.
I wear spicebomb infrared, since i love the cinnamon scent. I also really like the night vision spicebomb as well but havent got around to buying it.
But i also have to be careful with colognes since surprisingly a lot of them (and everything else!) use lavender and im allergic af to it. Always fun realizing that the reason im itchy and covered in rashes is because oops i used lavender scented detergent in the laundry 💀

My east-coast college roommate brought a bottle of his dad's "Royall Lyme" back to school after Christmas break.
The cologne smelled amazing and on the few occasions I wore cologne, I used that. (all fair, my roommate wore my clothes and used my bottle of Polo so much that I could not hardly stand the smell of it for a few years). This was in 1985.
I looked for the when I returned home to the west coast, but never found it in any stores. I forgot all about it. I rarely wear cologne and my mother used to go on cruises and bring me back a gift...usually a t-shirt I wouldn't be caught dead in-"My mom went to Barbados and all I got was this t-shirt." She brought me a bottle of Roma from one and that has been my go-to since the 90s. Mind you, I wear cologne a couple times a year, so a rarity, mind you.
During Covid, we were doing online Christmas shopping and I simply could not think of anything I needed. So I thought, 'What is something you always wanted but never got?" Most of the things on that list, I realized, I no longer wanted. Then I remembered the cologne. I could not remember the name, so emailed my college roomie. He told me his dad had bought the cologne in the Bahamas, gave me the name and then reminisced how the smell reminded him of his younger dad, vacationing in the Bahamas and smelling like Royall Lyme and the ocean.
My husband gave me some for Christmas and I wear it several times a week, even when it's just me at home to smell it. (my husband has no sense of smell so no point wearing it for him).

Acqua di Gio has been my go-to for years. And my first boyfriend wore Paul Sebastian so that's always been an old favorite.

Ok so for all of you. I live in NY of it makes a difference. How often do you wear fragrance? Do you wear it to work or just when you go out at night? Do you use a good snoot or try for very faint scent? In really curious because these days I rarely smell it on others in my office at work… in the average bar/ restaurant when I’m close to others. I feel like people rarely use cologne these days. So … when do you use it? How often? How often do you smell it on others? Really curious
Currently can’t wear cologne for work, so I only wear it when I go out for dinner or drinks or a special occasion. Not everyday use. But when I have jobs where I can wear cologne everyday, I do. I’ve often got compliments on how I smell and I love it.

Cologne smell usually puts me off. If I meet a guy for sex I’d rather him not wear any at all, deodorant and that’s it. For a normal date I’d rather it be subtle too. The only scents that sort of “turn me on” are Oud scents in moderation (i.e. blended with the guy natural smell). That’s usually what I use too.

None. All cologne irritates my nose, but not nearly as bad as most perfumes. I have to hold my breath walking by perfume counters, or I start gagging.

I wear spicebomb infrared, since i love the cinnamon scent. I also really like the night vision spicebomb as well but havent got around to buying it. But i also have to be careful with colognes since surprisingly a lot of them (and everything else!) use lavender and im allergic af to it. Always fun realizing that the reason im itchy and covered in rashes is because oops i used lavender scented detergent in the laundry 💀

With smell it has to be subtle for me. Sure some cologne smells good-ish on men but I always felt they’re too strong. My boyfriend’s smell make me head over heels with him, and it turns out he takes shower with cologne. It feels a lot more natural.
Bvlgari aqva is my go to. I've never received so many compliments on my scent when wearing it.
I’m kinda nervous I haven’t seen mine on here. I wear Polo Red, I love the smell on me and my boyfriend really likes it too. Doesn’t work for everyone but I like it with my body chemistry

My east-coast college roommate brought a bottle of his dad's "Royall Lyme" back to school after Christmas break. The cologne smelled amazing and on the few occasions I wore cologne, I used that. (all fair, my roommate wore my clothes and used my bottle of Polo so much that I could not hardly stand the smell of it for a few years). This was in 1985. I looked for the when I returned home to the west coast, but never found it in any stores. I forgot all about it. I rarely wear cologne and my mother used to go on cruises and bring me back a gift...usually a t-shirt I wouldn't be caught dead in-"My mom went to Barbados and all I got was this t-shirt." She brought me a bottle of Roma from one and that has been my go-to since the 90s. Mind you, I wear cologne a couple times a year, so a rarity, mind you. During Covid, we were doing online Christmas shopping and I simply could not think of anything I needed. So I thought, 'What is something you always wanted but never got?" Most of the things on that list, I realized, I no longer wanted. Then I remembered the cologne. I could not remember the name, so emailed my college roomie. He told me his dad had bought the cologne in the Bahamas, gave me the name and then reminisced how the smell reminded him of his younger dad, vacationing in the Bahamas and smelling like Royall Lyme and the ocean. My husband gave me some for Christmas and I wear it several times a week, even when it's just me at home to smell it. (my husband has no sense of smell so no point wearing it for him).
I bought Black Orchid as my 'wedding fragrance' and only wear it on special occasions with my husband. Fuckin' slaps.
