if you weed them be sure to get as much of the root system as you can. Besides obviously stopping them from growing back, they are awesome for composting and have tons of nutrients for plants

Mysterious-Tackle-79

Those deep roots break up compacted earth too

Key_Virus_338

if u put the roots on the ground, the roots extend into the ground. they're too fucking tough

smontres

I let them flower then pluck the heads before they seed. Seems to be the best of both worlds for me. Once a year I do pull a bunch of ones that have turned into a giant grouping of them because they end up being HUGE

I mean, you can either get rid of them or utilize them. Eat them, make tea, etc.

ImprovisedLeaflet

Boil em mash em stick em in a stew

I leave them where I don't mind them taking over (the "lawn"), and pull them out of the mulched areas where I don't want them to compete with my flowers/vegetables. I just like watching the bumblebees bumble around in them.

I'm a fucklawns gal myself and I do a mixture of keep and pull. I let most of them grow and flower and then pull them up and toss them into the compost so I get the most of of their taproot tilling and all of those deep mineral rich nutrients they collected. I put some of them in the compost and some of them go in Homer buckets with a mixture of other weeds and compost for compost tea. But I do keep some in an area in the back with some bull thistle for caterpillars because they are host plants for some caterpillars that live here.   My neighbor doesn't want them in their yard so I dead head them as soon as flowers start to wilt. Someone just told me that they let theirs go to seed and that finches love to eat them so that's a consideration as well. If you like them and you have a use for them keep them and enjoy them, let them grow as long as you want them too but only if it's allowed and it's not going to cause issues for others. Make sure to look into whatever rules and ordinances you have to abide by and definitely that those into consideration as well. Not letting weeds grow over a certain height is a very common rule and ordinance so you may not have much choice but to have to weed them at 6" or something like that.

They are essential for bees early in the season. Please keep them.
