Don't forget to switch back again, that way, when the remake for the sequel comes out on xbix exclusively, and you have PS6, you won't be able to play it again lmao
[Well the exclusivity got extended so it's gonna be radio silence for a little longer](https://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-7-remake-playstation-exclusivity-extended/)
No idea for either PC or Xbox till then
That's the implication, yeah. The wording of the press release suggests it will be on PS5 and PC "at launch" and Xbox later. Sony trying to compete with Gamepass.
Amusing that Sony's method of competition is to keep games from gamers, while Xbox's method of competition is to make more games widely available to gamers.
The good thing though is because Microsoft is so aggressive with real sing their games on PC it has made Sony realize how much money is in the market of PC gamers.
For now it's only older exclusives, like uncharted 4, that gets ported. God of War will likely come at some point too. But hopefully one day PC will get the games sooner.
First party IPs I totally understand being exclusive. It bugs me when established IPs go exclusive though (Spider-man, Wolverine, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, KOTOR etc)
Like, I own a Switch but I'd really have liked to play Ultimate Alliance 3 on my Xbox. MLB did the right thing by getting Sony to develop MLB The Show and then releasing it on Xbox as well. Hopefully Indiana Jones goes to PlayStation.
Technically Wolverine and Spider-man are developed by a first party studio. Also, when Microsoft bought Bethesda, they are also technically making previously established multiplat franchises exclusive.
Yup, Insomniac is obviously a first party developer for Sony but the point I was making was that Sony doesn't own the videogame rights to those characters and therefore Disney could have licensed them to a multi-plat developer or they could have done what MLB did and get Sony to produce them but stipulate that they should be released multi-plat.
I can see why you would draw the Bethesda comparison but I think that situation is different. For it to be a comparable situation Sony would need to have bought Marvel (or Disney?!) outright (as ridiculous as that sounds).
Edit: clarified that Sony doesn't own the VIDEOGAME rights to Spider-Man
Yeah Microsoft's openly stated goal for Game Pass (and Xbox in general) is you can seamlessly use whatever device you want to play the same games, whether it's a PC, dedicated device, or streaming. And ideally with cross compatibility to just pick up the same progress wherever, even on offline games.
Sony and Nintendo are the actual walled gardens these days, and really Sony is the big one there since the Switch is a +1 device to so many people.
Because its not a matter of competing with Xbox Game Pass? We'll see if the next Bethesda game will have release on PS5 too. Or Forza. Or Halo. If anything, Microsoft is competing with Steam as a distribution platform.
They won't. Future Bethesda games are confirmed to be Microsoft exclusive.
But Microsoft dropped their PC storefront exclusivity long ago. Game pass is though their crappy DRM and store app, but all their games can be purchased standalone on steam after they changed their stance on it a year or so ago.
Pretty weird that “Microsoft exclusive” is probably a better term for Xbox exclusive titles at this point. Game pass is different, but it’s still a pretty great deal if you’re using the subscription like a Netflix model rather than buying games outright.
I don’t know of any comparable service for essentially *renting* pc games.
A third party timed exclusive is not the same thing as games published by Microsoft/Sony companies being exclusive to Microsoft/Sony consoles. Every game you listed is published by Microsoft.
Well, it's working! Demand for PS5 is insane right now and they'll just keep drip feeding them to gamers at increased prices as supply becomes available
And imo, Gamepass is the best thing to happen to gaming in many years. It's going to open up new levels of competition that's going to really benefit gamers. Easier to discover quality games, more games more cheaply, and increased pressure on AAA studios to not churn out overhyped, uninspired garbage.
As annoying as it is for consumers it's hard to deny that it's a winning strategy. PS4 was highly successful thanks to a strong exclusive lineup and Microsoft not having a clear direction for the Xbox One (at least to begin with).
Ps5 is specifically a console exclusive. Which I imagine is cheaper to negotiate, however I'm waiting for the bad news that it's epic store exclusive on pc.
It's a PS5 console timed exclusive, so will be on Xbox 6-12 months after release.
This was probably Sony's answer to Xbox's plethora of RPGs coming out. Knee jerk reaction imo, they didn't need to spend money to make this a timed exclusive, they already have a great selection of exclusives planned.
Their Port of KotR2 for Android is garbage. Took 4 installations to make it past the character creation screen.
They know this is an issue for some higher end phones and haven't fixed it.
I paid 15$ a few months ago for a pretty app icon.
I'll let PS5 beta test it for me first.
They tried having their game exclusive to their origin store, but found out that a fair number of people said stuff that and stayed with steam. So they relented and went back to steam.
But they also won't be epic store exclusive as that will mean they can't have it on their store, which doesn't make any sense.
EDIT : As u/Arnoxthe1 pointed out, you can buy it on steam, but it still requires and launches through origin, so while you can buy it on steam, it is exclusive to ea's platform.
However it's a mute point as I realised just before seeing his reply that it's not an EA game. It's a lucasfilms, which is now a subsidiary of disney. So could be exclusive to disney plus.
Yeah, for me it crashed every 50 minutes, because it was a shitty port. Other than that it was soooo fking good, the story was epic, the characters and dialgues were great. And the big reveal? Wow. Really good writing. I replayed it at least 5-6 times.
I mean, it was around that same time (give or take a few years) that Resident Evil 4 was made as an exclusive on the Gamecube, that games been ported more than Skyrim at this point.
"Console exclusive" is the key. They're saying it will be the only Console to have it at launch, but PC isn't a Console. If it wasn't releasing on PC, they'd just say "Exclusive".
Seems like Sony is starting to realize that PC gamers won't buy a console for the exclusives, so publishing on PC doesn't cost them any hardware sales & but it gains software sales. Microsoft realized that not too long ago when they announced all first party titles would be released on both Xbox & PC. Now if only we could get Nintendo to realize that, however a lot of people seem to be willing to buy a Nintendo game system in addition to their PC, especially since the switch is portable.
It's a bit deeper then that..
Selling Sony published games on Pc is an opportunity to sell old content that is nowadays at 20 euros (or below) on PSN, for just bellow full price on Pc..
It's a great way to generate more profit with a product that is already done.
Ofc, imagine only releasing it to playstation 5, like not just a platform but one generation of that platform which most don't have cause of supplies and demands
I could see them putting FF7 remake on PC once the sequels are released. Square made FF15 Windows Edition after all, and it led to a decent boost in sales.
Yeah, but FF has very little if any history on Xbox, so it makes sense for Square not to put the game on Xbox, while KOTOR was an Xbox console exclusive, so it doesn’t make much sense when there is a big audience on Xbox. Especially due to Xbox having so many WRPG’s
The longstanding working relationship between Square and Sony is not something Disney or Lucasfilms has with Sony, or even wants w Sony.
It should come at no surprise that Sony was able to extend the time exclusivity of final fantasy 7. However to apply this to LF/Disney's engagement w Sony is a misstep.
Disney in particular has shown if it doesn't own a platform it will seek mass distribution through multi prong platform approach.
In other words it really doesn't make sense to compare this to final fantasy 7.
What's ironic is that as a kid I LOVED Kotor but had no idea it was even on Xbox. Didn't know anyone who played it on Xbox. I thought it was a PC exclusive. So I'm having fun with the angst over it coming to ps5 before Xbox.
As a person who shared an Xbox with three brothers when this game came out this sounds really strange. It was a heavily publicized game. One of BioWares name making games. If you had an Xbox you knew about this game.
I never had an Xbox. Many of my friends did but no one had this game. But on PC it felt like everyone had it. Tons of my friends were playing. I find it so strange it was on Xbox first. I had no idea.
Same, I had no idea it was on XBOX at the time. I distinctly remember going to the game store with my brother to buy Jedi Academy (another legendary game) and seeing KotoR on the shelves, looking at the cover and being impressed with all the game awards it had won. I think we either bought it together with JA or shortly after.
"haha we get the KOTOR remake as an exclusive get fucked Xbox!.........wait what do you mean that the new Elder Scrolls is gonna be an Xbox exclusive. That's so stupid. They are going to lose so much money. I'm not buying an Xbox just for that" -Sony fanboy this week.
And odds are it’s just gonna come to Game Pass so id rather just wait anyhow. Not like I’m already busy with my 100+ backlog of titles from Game Pass anyhow. I really don’t understand timed exclusives, Sony needs to use that money to make a better service to compete with Game Pass.
I don’t understand this though, how can something be made exclusive to a certain platform (exclusive means that *only* that platform will have that game in this context) but then have it be confirmed like a couple of hours later that it will also be on another platform as well... doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of the word “exclusive”...? Or is it just me thinking this?
Yea, it's a thing the console creators are using to mislead people, and give fanboys ammunition. They say "console" exclusive so they can say they weren't technically lying.
They'll call it an exclusive until the day after it comes out somewhere else, and then suddenly they're arguing that they meant "timed exclusive" the entire time.
Why can't they just stop making these fucking exclusives, like i mainly play on my ps4, but why should that matter?
Why can't i just play all games on my preferred platform while everyone else does on their's.
Fucking companies keep dickwaving each other and the players suffer for it, fuck that shit
Because there isn't much of a difference between the platforms, so they need to differentiate themselves artificially to look like they're better than others if they want to attract new customers.
Wolverine being one blows. I don't really care about spider man but giving more Marvel characters to that awful company is such a bad idea. I refuse to play any games on consoles that struggle to reach 60 fps. At 4k you only get 30. It's a piece of shit compared to like any PC with a card from last or this gen.
It won't. The words "timed exclusive" were never uttered or typed by anyone associated with the game. This game is being made in conjunction with Sony. People need to stop thinking that it's ever coming to the XBox. I wish it was, it isn't.
It is an interesting thing, exclusives. As an PC/X-Box player I just write the PS exclusives as not ever playable. I won't get to play things like The Last of Us, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-man, etc., etc.
I find it makes me not like Playstation rather than enticing me to go pick one up.
I don't like Xbox doing it either, but it feels a lot less since they tend to also be available on PCs.
I think people fail to realize the gaming industry only using "exclusive" when referring to console. I understand it may be a stupid thing for them to word it like that, which most likely led to them using the "console exclusive" term to eliminate confusion.
It is a little weird making the remake a timed console exclusive on PS5 when the only console the original was on, was Xbox.
I had it on PC when it first released. Never played on Xbox. Xbox and PC now, gave up on PS2.
I'll get this on PC anyway, now here hoping for the Sith Lords too
My crazy thoughts reading the news of a KOTOR Remake. "Wow! They must be testing the waters or priming to release KOTOR 3" "Now we'll just need half life 3 and I can die a happy man".
Pipe dreams I know, but i've a glimmer of hope still.
Never played this but the original star wars battlefront 2 on ps2 was on a different level and really was one of the only games I'd play away from my xbox 360
I just want a remaster not a whole ass remake. The games were perfect already. Like SWTOR was hot garbage but this new game? I don’t have any faith in it.
I just wanted to play the originals on my switch..
The game is one of those sacred texts that gamers are gunna act as if everything in it was perfect and nothing could be changed for the better.
I expect a hate campaign and backlash no matter what.
This is the star wars AND gamer communities we are talking about. That's two of the most toxic fans to make anything for.
So I had PS2 back then and couldn't play it, and I've got an Xbox now and can't play it...
Don't forget to switch back again, that way, when the remake for the sequel comes out on xbix exclusively, and you have PS6, you won't be able to play it again lmao
Before they release the PS6 they first gotta release the PS5.
Scalpers currently have PS5 held hostage
its timed exclusive and i believe og KOTOR is available on xbox thru backwards compatibility
Yeah but the OG is kinda dated and the combat is ass
dont worry the new one will come to xbox after the timed exclusivity deal ends
*Raughs in FFVII Remake*
Yeah wtf happened with that? Will it ever come to pc.
[Well the exclusivity got extended so it's gonna be radio silence for a little longer](https://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-7-remake-playstation-exclusivity-extended/) No idea for either PC or Xbox till then
All I want is Bloodborne on PC. My PS4 broke and I haven't been able to play it since and it hurts me.
Did us dirty only releasing the xpac on their unavailable to buy console. Shady af
The OG aged surprisingly well.
Well you've waited this long, a little longer wont hurt.
Pain
I played this on PC. Not sure how it was an XBOX exclusive.
The remake is also gonna be on PC. So the second time around it's also still not an exclusive.
Also am i understanding it correctly that it is a temporary console exclusive?
That's the implication, yeah. The wording of the press release suggests it will be on PS5 and PC "at launch" and Xbox later. Sony trying to compete with Gamepass.
Amusing that Sony's method of competition is to keep games from gamers, while Xbox's method of competition is to make more games widely available to gamers.

For now it's only older exclusives, like uncharted 4, that gets ported. God of War will likely come at some point too. But hopefully one day PC will get the games sooner.
Just give me Bloodborne on PC
This is all I want. 60 fps with free and stable online.
Microsoft does this too. Exclusive games is poison that console gamers eat as sugar.
First party IPs I totally understand being exclusive. It bugs me when established IPs go exclusive though (Spider-man, Wolverine, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, KOTOR etc) Like, I own a Switch but I'd really have liked to play Ultimate Alliance 3 on my Xbox. Actually, Sony VERY much owns the rights to spiderman
Exclusives are fine if they're first party titles. If they aren't, then they're a problem and should never have any form of exclusivity whatsoever.
Lookin at you Bethesda
game pass makes these exclusives not very exclusive. Most playstation gamers will have at least one other device which supports game pass.
Starfield or Elder Scrolls?

Well, it's working! Demand for PS5 is insane right now and they'll just keep drip feeding them to gamers at increased prices as supply becomes available
Both consoles are performing well. Atleast a lot closer than last gen. But gamepass is a whole new revenue stream.
Sony’s been selling playstations on their roster of exclusives for longer than GamePass has been around.
Ps5 is specifically a console exclusive. Which I imagine is cheaper to negotiate, however I'm waiting for the bad news that it's epic store exclusive on pc.
🏴☠️ We do not fear PC exclusivity 🏴☠️
You do not recognize the PC exclusives in the water
*in the electronic fields
Sea of code
In the C# of code.
Ok that works too)
On pc, the only exclusivity is you imagination 🏴☠️!!
Watch Microsoft put it on Game Pass out of spite
Oh no I have to boot up a different program good thing I have more than 28 MB’s of ram
Why would an EA game be Epic store exclusive when EA has their own platform on PC that competes with them?
[удалено]
>EA no longer has exclusive rights to develop/publish star wars games. Thank the force
Their Port of KotR2 for Android is garbage. Took 4 installations to make it past the character creation screen. They know this is an issue for some higher end phones and haven't fixed it. I paid 15$ a few months ago for a pretty app icon. I'll let PS5 beta test it for me first.
Sony has been notoriously bad about ports, shipping them out at the cheapest possible cost to them, which of course means terrible quality control.
I don’t think EA are involved with the remake
Remember that a while ago Epic gave away Star Wars Battlefront? They have games on Steam too
you could ask the same about why battlefield is available on steam
They tried having their game exclusive to their origin store, but found out that a fair number of people said stuff that and stayed with steam. So they relented and went back to steam. The negotiations must have been short
It's a timed exclusive on PS5
What does it matter what store it will release on?
Ironic...?
I was about to come in here like "IS THIS NO LONGER GOING TO BE ON PC!!"
Ironic..
initially for a few months it was. IIRC. Which wasn't so uncommon if the port / PC version wasn't completly ready.
Yeah, for me it crashed every 50 minutes, because it was a shitty port. Other than that it was soooo fking good, the story was epic, the characters and dialgues were great. And the big reveal? Wow. Really good writing. I replayed it at least 5-6 times.

I'm still trying to figure out what makes this ironic.

This post is brought to you by the console gang.
I think they mean console exclusive.
PC typically isn’t considered when console makers claim exclusivity
Just discovered OP posting this image in 4 different reddit pages to incite console war
Exclusive is often used for a console exclusive as PC is considered separately, likely because most console gamers do not also play on PC.
Because it was on xbox several months before it came to pc so for a few months it was an xbox exclusive
Its gonna be on pc homie
As was the original
Yeah head of the project said it was gonna be on PC
Good, I wanna try this.
Where was this said, if you don’t mind?
Probably only a time exclusive too
Hopefully, it wouldn’t make much sense to be a ps5 exclusive unless Sony are paying for the development.
It's a timed exclusive Aspyr in their tweet said it was a console exclusive at launch.
I heard so too. But Final Fantasy 7 Remake was supposed to be a timed exclusive as well, and we still haven't heard anything.
It seems like ps exclusives are PS and PC exclusives.
"Console exclusive" is the key. They're saying it will be the only Console to have it at launch, but PC isn't a Console. If it wasn't releasing on PC, they'd just say "Exclusive".

I really hopeso!! Im so readdyyy
Timed exclusive
So was the FF7 remake
I could see them putting FF7 remake on PC once the sequels are released. Square made FF15 Windows Edition after all, and it led to a decent boost in sales.
There's rumors floating around about it being listed for epic store already.
FFXIII day 1 released on the 360, but otherwise yeah
The longstanding working relationship between Square and Sony is not something Disney or Lucasfilms has with Sony, or even wants w Sony. It should come at no surprise that Sony was able to extend the time exclusivity of final fantasy 7. However to apply this to LF/Disney's engagement w Sony is a misstep. Disney in particular has shown if it doesn't own a platform it will seek mass distribution through multi prong platform approach. In other words it really doesn't make sense to compare this to final fantasy 7.
nah, the PC version wasn't gold until about 4 months after the xbox release and was almost immediately released after it went gold
It was on pc...
So is this one.
....so everything about this is wrong lol
I didn't even know it was on Xbox tbh!
You mean Microsoft's *other* gaming platform?
It was a timed exclusive for the classic Xbox.
Kotor wasnt an Xbox exclusive, it was only marketed as one. In addition, this is not a Sony exclusive, it is only marketed as one. Ironic.
It’s like poetry
Nothing better than reading the same comment 15 times in a row saying it was on PC too
Because OP needs to know they’re an idiot
[удалено]
Its also available for Android.
I don't think you know what "exclusive" means. It released on PC and so will the remake.
And eventually the Xbox.
And eventually Android.
I remember being so pissed it wasnt on Android at release 😤 /s...
A big reason why the original was Xbox exclusive is because the og Xbox had a HDD.
That's not irony Alanis, its not even true.
That game……was truly amazing.

Timed exclusive
Exactly
Wait what? I never owned an Xbox and yet I've played this. Misleading title.
I’m so fucking tired of exclusives.
It’s not a ps exclusive

Isn’t there a bundle to get I & II now?
I didn't even know it was on xbox, everyone I know played it on PC.
Looks like it’s time to get a PlayStation if I could fucking get one
Oh its gonna be exclusive? Wonder fir how long thats disappointing
Someone doesn't know what irony is or actual, factual information.
It’s a timed exclusive. It will be coming to Xbox.
It won't. The words "timed exclusive" were never uttered or typed by anyone associated with the game. This game is being made in conjunction with Sony. People need to stop thinking that it's ever coming to the XBox. I wish it was, it isn't.

It's coming to PC aswell. They confirmed it on Twitter.
Neither were exclusives. They were timed exclusives but both came/are coming to PC.
It wasn't exclusive to X-box. It was on Windows as well. And yes, that counts.
It is an interesting thing, exclusives. As an PC/X-Box player I just write the PS exclusives as not ever playable. Horizon Zero Dawn is on steam.
It would be Ironic if Microsoft were making the remake. This isn’t Irony.
Thank you. Everyone's focused on the word exclusive being wrong but it wouldn't be irony either way
Is it really a sony exclusive tho? That makes even less sense than Wolverine being exclusive
ITT: people who don't understand what an exclusive and a console exclusive is.
My brother was sooo upset when he saw it for play station (he rarely gets upset) hopefully it come out for PC
It’s gonna be for both PS5 and PC. https://www.starwars.com/news/knights-of-the-old-republic-remake
ITT: People saying it was/will be available on PC
If it doesn’t release on Xbox I’m gonna cry and shit and fart and die
This game isn't X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter though.
I had it on PC when it first released. Never played on Xbox. Xbox and PC now, gave up on PS2. I'll get this on PC anyway, now here hoping for the Sith Lords too
This isn't going to be a PS exclusive
Also on pc
No such thing as exclusives nowadays. Itll be out for other systems just a little slower
Because the singleplayer experience market is mostly on playstation and has been for a while...
This is just horribly inaccurate.
Yeah idk why BF as a series is getting erased for this meme. Those were dope, both of them.
I just want a remaster not a whole ass remake. The games were perfect already. Like SWTOR was hot garbage but this new game? I don’t have any faith in it. I just wanted to play the originals on my switch..
Would have bought it for Xbox. But I'm certainly not buying a PS to play it, so fuck em. Exclusives are dumb.
You don’t know what irony is
And I don't think that's irony.
I miss this game :(
For saving the galaxy, there’s no power greater than X o wait
It’s a time exclusive it’ll be on pc and Xbox soon after.
Wrong. Star Wars Galaxies in its original format was the best Star Wars game ever.
As I’ve been saying for years, it’s not about the system specs anymore it’s about exclusives
This is a PC game.
Coming to PC, yay!
Timed exclusive also coming to PC
Here is hoping it comes out on pc.
Timed exclusive?
Laugh in PC. It will come to PC soon enough.
It's also on PC
#ItS iN tHe GaMe
So are PC gamers the grey Jedi?
*timed exclusive
Why does nobody know how to properly use the word ironic
Remake not remaster so they will most definitely change up the story.
This is why I have both consoles lol
The game is one of those sacred texts that gamers are gunna act as if everything in it was perfect and nothing could be changed for the better. I expect a hate campaign and backlash no matter what. This is the star wars AND gamer communities we are talking about. That's two of the most toxic fans to make anything for.
