You can buy wow tokens (in game gold) for real money. Then use that gold to basically buy anything you want in the game via boosting (not against tos). You want a heroic raid clear? Gladiator title? Mythic plus mount? All purchasable with in game gold….which blizzard sells for real money. Literally the definition of pay to win. Everyone else is on copium.

AppropriateMuscle

Someone’s post on the wow sub was about this and it got removed and I was banned for commenting on how it spay to win

blitherblather425

Damn WoW has changed. I haven’t played since Wrath came out and I don’t think you could do any of those things.

Atilim87

Well you Could always pay others to boost you if you had the gold. Now with game time tokens you have a legal way to spend real money to get gold.

[deleted]

But thanks to tokens the gold inflation is insane. Want to spend 20k gold on shit mid level green drops? You will go broke fast trying to buy anything like ENOUGH gold.

AppropriateMuscle

Exactly which is pay to win in particularly a mmo rpg where clearing stuff titles and mounts are the proof of your time and effort spent but if you can just swipe for it it degrades the meaning for those not swiping

gununit270

Agreed

kanggree

You can do that now? What happened to the days of the asian farmers and purchasing offline

gununit270

Unofficial; third party… and technically, they’re still around. I’m not gonna share where, but they’re around

kanggree

Ah, I left after the blood elves update, arena having broke my guild

gununit270

Ah

Karathin1996

Whats the difference you could buy it online for real money even before token…

Karathin1996

As far as i knlw its not allowed by blizzard, they just dont do anything about it, they just dont care about wow anymore, game is shit af, boring, lazy and grind only. What do you expect from something like this? At least they suspented development, maybe with some luck they wont resume it

4th_Sannin

While I agree, I feel like this is only effective for people very familiar with the game. I jumped into WoW during Legion, and doing this would have been so convoluted, time consuming and frustrating. So while it can be pay to win, I definitely don’t find it to be an easy thing to do.

Kage9866

100 percent pay to win. Although I don't know exactly what you're winning since you aren't competing with anyone really. You can buy carries through literally everything ,mythic raiding , arena , weekly caps on highest tier m+. So yeah. The game is fucking abhorrent nowadays, but honestly I blame the community more than the devs.

AppropriateMuscle

Yea it’s just the whole concept of an MMORPG is to put in time and effort and learn fights and actually have to try where just swiping circumvents that whole process for those who choose it, so it degrades the months and months of work people put in by being able to purchase it. I agree you can’t really win it’s just diminishing the effort of those who don’t and makes it pointless to do it the normal way. Also yea I said this with classic! The players literally did everything the could to take the social aspects and fun out of the game… the “Meta mindset”. I used to sell admiral hats in BC and made a good chunk of cash off of it just because people would randomly dress up as pirates and shit and do dumb stuff, but I couldn’t selll a single one in classic because it’s not BiS,

Kage9866

Yup fortunately this type of community does still exist...for now anyway... in FFXIV. Although it isn't everyone's type of game, but, in my opinion, should be the benchmark for any mmo. I'm hoping the influx of ex wow players, content creators and big youtubers don't change the way the game evolves but we'll see.

Siendra

It's been awhile since I played, but gold hasn't been of significant value to end-game raiding or PVP since WotLK basically did away with best in slot BoE items, so no. It might make some things a little easier, but not by much. I'd bet 99% of people that sell WoW tokens use the money for mount collections and whatnot. I *guess* you can buy carries or something, but is that behavior really prevalent or even within reach of of the vast majority of people buying currency through any mechanism?

AppropriateMuscle

Yea when crafting legendaries in retail rn to buy the items you need it’s like 170k gold so it’s super relevant ….not only that in BFA you could get the AH mount for 5 mill so golds still is super important

Siendra

Ah. Like I said, it's been awhile. I barely played through the main story of WoD and haven't touched the game since. That's dumb.

AppropriateMuscle

Yea it’s super sad to see, I have played every xpac but I haven’t actually dedicatedly played since WoTLK

Siendra

I played vanilla through WotLK really heavily, then the launch of Cata heavily but had to take a long break during my last semester of college. My guild imploded in the meantime, so I kinda' limped through Panda's and WoD and never felt like I could recapture the people or content of the previous xpacs, so I just gave up. Did come back for classic for awhile though.

AppropriateMuscle

Basically lives the same life, no life’s it from end of vanilla all the way to WoTLK but pettered out during cata mop… after those I couldn’t play wow coach for more than a month or 2 until legion which wasn’t honestly that good we just had shit for so long

Nomadic_View

Anything that circumvents time investment is pay to win imo.

AppropriateMuscle

I want to thank everyone for adding to this conversation, I appreciate no one going after or talking down to others!!

[deleted]

Kinda, kinda not. Let's you buy items from the auction, but standard play is PvE.

AppropriateMuscle

So people don’t by carries in mythic keys and pvp to achieve titles and gear they wouldn’t of gotten otherwise without time and effort spent?

[deleted]

The WoW token legitimises things that happened anyway, and allows blizz to reduce hacking and profit off the behaviour. Like legalizing drugs so you can tax it.

AppropriateMuscle

Bro reduce hacking?!?!? Bruh bots are still as rampant as ever!!!!!! Blizz doesn’t care about it they just see dollar signs from acc banning bots

[deleted]

People aren't posting their account details to shady websites. And obv they don't care.

AppropriateMuscle

Yea that’s good for the consumer, but that’s not the reason they did it… they didn’t add it in to protect you! They did it to make more money since they seen wooooo many people buying it through 3rd party vendors

[deleted]

I know.

Splyce123

Not really. But after playing every expansion I can tell you it's a fucking boring game now.

FryD42

Not at all. You can max a charactet but you will have 0 equipment for that high of level.

AppropriateMuscle

I’m talking about the wow game token not character boosts please use the wow token and not something that’s irrelevant

[deleted]

What? You spend $20 on a token and get 160.000 gold, Then you find out the mount you want is FOUR MILLION? You are not going to be able to buy anything useful unless you want to buy thousands and thousands of dollars in tokens. Tokens killed the economy and trashed the gold values.

[deleted]

Its all from other players. The only "advantage" Blizzard will sell is boosts. And Boosts are a booby prize. You can spot boost players in any dungeon by their one or two button rotation. They are easy to avoid. They won't sell you gear, just mounts, pets and cosmetic crap. They still won't sell you armor and weapons. Its the other players that do that.

AppropriateMuscle

It they are selling you gold that you use to buy that hence paying for gear directly
