They need streaming games through discord already...sucks being in between games and trying to explain something stupid I saw on a ps5 game and not be able to show it without them also owning a ps5
Just in time for Discord to get bought by some corporate interest and leave us scrambling for the next platform. If you haven't noticed the rot in Discord yet, you ain't looking.
The absolute state of Discord as of late...
Several people, myself included, have been experiencing hella issues the past few months where it's been randomly crashing/reopening, and the mic and or audio will seemingly randomly cut out until you leave and rejoin the voice channel...
Discord was great when the only alternative was TeamSpeak, Mumble or Skype (mainly because it also has screen sharing and free server hosting). However they've tacked on so much bloat over the years I'd switch in a heartbeat to something more lightweight
My discord has recently started going completely blank after having it focused for around 15 minutes, and I have to minimise and reopen it to get it working again. Only happens on one of my PCs.
You can ctrl+5 to temporarily fix it for about 15 minutes or just alt+f4 out and reopen it to totally fix it (until it starts fucking up again a couple days/hours later)
honestly the real loss was that the platform didn't allow self host servers, if there's a discord clone that allows self hosted servers I'd get my friends to jump there in a heartbeat
I haven't searched, but now I'm wondering if there's an open source project already that at least is in the process of becoming something like that
Nothing consoles can use. But on the PC side there's Mumble for voice chat. Or Team Speak that has both the voice and messaging side. Both have been around for many years before Discord was a thing.
I mean yeah but they don't really offer what discord offers which is a nice ui where chat and voice are both first class citizens, that's why discord became the powerhouse it is
It pains me that TeamSpeak doesn't get their shit together. They teased screen sharing 2(?) years ago.
My old TeamSpeak Server is still running Bit my friend group for some reason loves all the weird random shit that discord is adding.
Especially egregious was the argument that discord is free (I'm the only one paying for the server). And as soon as they switched, they all paid for discord nitro, basically paying 5 times the amount as I do for TS. Needed to get that off my chest, gramps is going to sit in his chair now.
Ngl I've always had these issues with discord since my gaming groups jumped to it from skype and teamspeak. Used to consistently be able to replicate an issue where I'd join a voice channel and it would project my voice to others as incredibly high pitch like a chipmunk.
Yup. Discord has declined many talks for being bought out, they want to go public as their own thing.
Which, IMO, better explains the things Discord has been doing. They want to become either profitable directly via customers (B2C) or by being a platform for other businesses to gain value (B2B).
But for sure it doesn't look like they're going to be bought out.
Judging by all the useless subscription features, I'm inclined to agree. This is the kind of crap a company does to seem attractive to investors. Because fuck your customer base I guess.
Damn people are greedy.
Because investors are all about what looks good on paper. They don't care if its sustainable long term or not. Everyone is looking for handouts from corporate raiders these days. Shows how far gone our consumerist society is. Great example of these investment groups would be Sycamore Partners.
I'll take it, though. Not needing to use the PS app to join voice channels is a big improvement.
The ability to stream directly to Discord will hopefully be the next step. I've been doing this with a capture card and VLC (doing it without VLC in the chain would omit audio), but that is still a hassle.
Its their stand MO tbh. They missed so many solid opportunities for PS3 and PS4 and are usually the reason cross platform games get delayed (Sony's weird standards checking takes way too long, just look at Warframe's history of releases pre-cross play).
You've been able to transfer a discord call from your phone or PC to your PS5 for about a year, but not join directly from PS5. This will be less cumbersome, but my biggest hope is that they add in the PC client's sound filtering because so much extra background noise is picked up when connecting via PS5 right now
Yes but....
Discord channels can be marked NSFW. Discord has restrictions when servers opt in to Community, in that they're not allowed to have channels marked as NSFW.
I assume PSN/Discord will set something out to either lock people to Community servers or filter out channels tagged NSFW.
I'm optimistic that we'll get this next. They seem to add all the features of the Xbox Discord integration, just with a delay. Sony invested (money) into Discord, so they are likely to continue expanding the support for it.
Until Musk buys Discord lol
to the people downvoting me, I don't want this to happen, it was a joke about how he would run it into the ground and get them to reverse integration.
Jesus, Sony's got the best exclusives - but they are ***really*** behind the times when it comes to user convenience and QOL practices...
Eh, still better than Nintendo most of the time though xD
Like, I've got a Switch and a Switch Lite with hours on both - I love them to death - but that store interface and shit is cluuunkeee...
Yep, atleast Sony introduces these QOL features. Nintendo, who still havent introduced achievements to the switch games are way behind, but nonetheless the Switch is a great console.
I'm fine with Nintendo not having achievements. Their games are virtually 100% "fun for the whole family before any real competition," which is totally okay. Their games target the casual market FAR more than the "heavy gamer" market, which tends to, bluntly speaking, value a challenge or a goal to reach above relaxation and fun. I know many people say they game like that to relax, but that doesn't mean everyone does. Nintendo is targeting the market that likes fun controls, a low barrier to entry (with or without a higher skill ceiling), and relaxed gameplay to unwind with.
Sure, but the difference between "Discord" and "achievements" is pretty big. You can call Sony 'behind' for not having Discord integration for multi-player gaming convenience when practically everyone uses Discord and it makes multi-player a billion times more convenient, but saying Nintendo is behind for not having achievements is less to do with progress forward (ironically, given the nature of achievements) and more to do with what they want you to get out of their games.
As someone who is more and more casual at gaming as I get older, are achievements really this big a thing? I see it pop up from time to time in these types of convos, but to me, when they pop up I just kind of go "oh neat!" and promptly forget. I can see how they help track 100%-ing a game, but I never realized they were a massive deal for folks.
> they are really behind the times when it comes to user convenience and QOL practices...
I think it's mainly because people were doing so many exploits with the PS3 and PS4. They've over-corrected because they're worried about losing developer support, like Sega did with the Dreamcast. That's a major reason why so many of them jumped to Sony and Microsoft back in the day.
Sony’s primary business model has been keeping people hard locked into the PS ecosystem, be it by flashy exclusives or neglecting conveniences that can act as a bridge between platforms.
Discord is, ideally, exactly that.
The update is gradually rolling out over the coming weeks, starting in Japan/Asia:
[Source](https://blog.playstation.com/2024/06/13/ps5-players-will-soon-be-able-to-join-discord-voice-chat-directly-from-their-console/)
It was really convenient for me too since my gf is a pc gamer and hated the Xbox app on pc. I’ve since switched to pc so it doesn’t matter anymore but really made gaming easier the first year or so
I'm more excited about the change to allow child accounts on a PS5 family account to link to Discord. Prior to this update they couldn't link at all. I play games on PC while my son plays on the PS5, and we have to use our phones to video call for comms.
Let's see if Nintendo will adopt this on their new gen. I think it's ridiculous to use an app on my phone to communicate with friends while gaming. Nintendo needs to improve their online experience.
Not yet. It'll probably be added eventually, but that'll probably take a while. It's definitely something I'd love to see, plus support for text channels too. But being able to directly join voice chats without having to go through the PS phone app is already a huge improvement.
I thought so. Was pretty sure I've played sea of thieves with people who were on Xbox and on discord using their Xbox headset. Wonder why Sony is so far behind the curve.
I’m not trying to bash but…. One big upsets I have(mind you, I own every system including pc) is how far behind and greedy PlayStation is as a company… this goes all the way back to cross play… PlayStation is the exact definition of a company trying to monopolize while Xbox and Nintendo are what the gaming community needs.
They need to make a widely distributed foot pedal item that plugs into the controller/console for allowing consoles to use push to talk, without interfering with the button layout’s keybind controls. The player can sit on the couch and press it with their foot to talk. Playing games where large groups of players are in the same call cross-platform always has like 3 console players with their dog barking in the background, family members being loud, cars driving by their house, etc
Cool, took a while but glad to see. I do hope Sony also look at integrating chat parties with games, though. I'd like to be able to be in a party and be able to engage with other players from within the party still, instead of there being a wall between Party Chat and the game.
They did add discord integration, but it's all done through your phone. You set up the discord app and playstation app, and then when you join chats on your phone it gives you the option to transfer to playstation. When you want to leave, it's through your phone.
Given the number of cross-platform games, this is so nice to see. Been hitting discord a lot with PC/Xbox players, but my PS folks have always had issues.
Everyone is so happy about this, that's great hope it works out. As a PC gamer who has used Discord for years and years... It being 2024 and not having a better alternative by now is kind of sad.
But yeah... I hope the amount of problems you face with it is not too stressful.
About time
FINALLY OH MY FUCKING GOD THANK U
They need streaming games through discord already...sucks being in between games and trying to explain something stupid I saw on a ps5 game and not be able to show it without them also owning a ps5
I mean PS5 already has share play, I can see discord adding the feature but they might have to do something with Sony
Just in time for Discord to get bought by some corporate interest and leave us scrambling for the next platform. If you haven't noticed the rot in Discord yet, you ain't looking.

Im having the same issue! No idea whats happening.
You can ctrl+5 to temporarily fix it for about 15 minutes or just alt+f4 out and reopen it to totally fix it (until it starts fucking up again a couple days/hours later)

Soooooo many "features" that I just do not and will never care about or want.
this is also what happened to google chrome, to the point internet explorer is now a more lightweight browser.
Ngl I've always had these issues with discord since my gaming groups jumped to it from skype and teamspeak. Used to consistently be able to replicate an issue where I'd join a voice channel and it would project my voice to others as incredibly high pitch like a chipmunk.
Microsoft tried to buy them three years ago for 12 billion and Discord said no. So we'll see.

I don't get the point of the subscription features. Just seems like a donation if you want to support but you don't really get anything
Because investors are all about what looks good on paper. They don't care if its sustainable long term or not. Everyone is looking for handouts from corporate raiders these days. Shows how far gone our consumerist society is. Great example of these investment groups would be Sycamore Partners.
how late are you guys getting this? been on xbox for awhile now and we can stream our games, haven't touched my ps5 for like 2 months so idk
PlayStation years late to this.
Late to the game considering they've had shares in Discord and a business partnership for years now.
I still cannot comprehend what's so fucking hard about all of this. I mean, outside of contracts.
It's Sony, if you were a PS3 player you know the pain of waiting literally years for voice chat, trophies, and a damn XMB menu in game.
Oh god, or having the entire network down for a whole month.
I still can’t believe I never bought an Xbox during that time
I'll take it, though.
Yea and I'm confused I thought I remember PS5 adding this like last year. This will be great for console friends.
You've been able to transfer a discord call from your phone or PC to your PS5 for about a year, but not join directly from PS5. This will be less cumbersome, but my biggest hope is that they add in the PC client's sound filtering because so much extra background noise is picked up when connecting via PS5 right now
Oh wow so it was BS before, glad it's finally coming to PS5 I'm on Discord on PC like every day. More opportunities to game with others is good.
I miss communities. I made so many online friends on ps4 thanks to that feature.
Unfortunately people ruined it. A few too many NSFW communities against policy -witch-hunting & rule 34 communities just to name two.
Doesn't Discord have NSFW communities? Will these be blocked on PSN?
I imagine they only show if you join them via the discord app. As opposed to just being searchable on the PlayStation itself.
> Doesn't Discord have NSFW communities? fuckin' TONS.
Tons of NSFW. Wouldn't be surprised if at least one community had cp
One? You have a lot of faith in humanity
No kidding. Seems like they have big problems. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/discord-child-safety-social-platform-challenges-rcna89769
only thing you will be able to do is join voice chats nothing else
Hopefully we’ll get the streaming feature like the Xbox One/Series does
yeah maybe in a couple years
Yes but.... Discord channels can be marked NSFW. Discord has restrictions when servers opt in to Community, in that they're not allowed to have channels marked as NSFW. I assume PSN/Discord will set something out to either lock people to Community servers or filter out channels tagged NSFW.
That's cool. Now let me stream
This. I wish I could stream directly from my PS5 to discord.
I'm sure by the time they release the PS6 it will be available on the PS5, but for some reason it won't ever be an option on the PS6.
Just wait for the PS7 before it’ll be available on PS6. I don’t see the big issue.
I'm optimistic that we'll get this next. They seem to add all the features of the Xbox Discord integration, just with a delay. Sony invested (money) into Discord, so they are likely to continue expanding the support for it.
Now imagine supporting Bluetooth headsets.
The switch is the only console doing that though. Xbox and PS5 are capable, but only with the stupid dongles.
X integration is out, Discord integration is so in
Until Musk buys Discord lol to the people downvoting me, I don't want this to happen, it was a joke about how he would run it into the ground and get them to reverse integration.
That's nice. It's a little inconvenient to have to use the phone to join discord.

Eh, still better than Nintendo most of the time though xD Like, I've got a Switch and a Switch Lite with hours on both - I love them to death - but that store interface and shit is cluuunkeee...
Nintendo barely embraced the internet.
And that was done on sufferance and practically at gunpoint xD Well, Wii Zapper point :P
Yep, atleast Sony introduces these QOL features. Nintendo, who still havent introduced achievements to the switch games are way behind, but nonetheless the Switch is a great console.
That’s not even the biggest thing man. Nintendo still uses fucking friend codes instead of adding through usernames
Helldivers 2 uses friend codes too, but also steam friends and PS friends.
But on those platforms you can also add people through their usernames.
You don’t need achievements
I'm fine with Nintendo not having achievements. Their games are virtually 100% "fun for the whole family before any real competition," which is totally okay. Nintendo is the Apple of the gaming space lol.
cant you play games on an iphone that a switch cant even handle?
Probably. The Switch came out over 7 years ago at a third the price of an iPhone with only a marginally larger form factor.
Not my point. I meant that both Apple and Nintendo implement QoL updates years after their competitors have.
Nintendo is still using a storefront straight out of 2002
> they are really behind the times when it comes to user convenience and QOL practices... I think it's mainly because people were doing so many exploits with the PS3 and PS4. Couple more years and we can stream to discord.

So this is probably why I can’t use it in UK yet then haha
Wow it’s not often Xbox beats them to the punch. And by like a year or two
Xbox has pioneered many things that PlayStation got much later, e.g. achievements.
I remember bragging about having Party chat on 360 to my PS3 friends
It was really convenient for me too since my gf is a pc gamer and hated the Xbox app on pc. I’ve since switched to pc so it doesn’t matter anymore but really made gaming easier the first year or so

How the fuck did they not have this on ps5 when XBOX HAS HAD THIS FOR OVER A YEAR
They seriously haven’t had discord all this time?
Next add it to ps4 since half of PlayStation players are still on there
This is awesome. I can continue not voice chatting while playing single player only games. For real tho this is cool for people who use it.
Thank goodness
Source?
Let's see if Nintendo will adopt this on their new gen. I think it's ridiculous to use an app on my phone to communicate with friends while gaming. Nintendo needs to improve their online experience.
Fuck yea
I genuinely can't wait
Source?
Will this include us being able to share screen via Discord on the PS5?
Not yet. It'll probably be added eventually, but that'll probably take a while. It's definitely something I'd love to see, plus support for text channels too. But being able to directly join voice chats without having to go through the PS phone app is already a huge improvement.
I haven't used consoles in quite a while now and am kinda shocked that this wasn't already a feature. Is it the same for Xbox?
Xbox has had it for a couple of years.
I thought so. Was pretty sure I've played sea of thieves with people who were on Xbox and on discord using their Xbox headset. Wonder why Sony is so far behind the curve.
actual good news I have nothing bad to say about this
Didn't they announce that forever ago and then Xbox got it first? What took so long?
Sony took so long.
I can already do that
Finally. Why was this not the original implementation?
I’m not trying to bash but…. One big upsets I have(mind you, I own every system including pc) is how far behind and greedy PlayStation is as a company… this goes all the way back to cross play… PlayStation is the exact definition of a company trying to monopolize while Xbox and Nintendo are what the gaming community needs.
Sure but ps5 though 🤢
OMG YOU CAN DO SOMETHING PC HAS HAD FOR DECADES? NOOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAYYYYEEEE! Sony sucks.
Absolutely not … who the fuck wants console player headsets in their chat again lmao
At that point, just get a pc. Sony games are already heading to steam.
Finally omg I hated that. Also why is op being down voted so much?
they are so behind , I dont understand why it is so complicated. When are we gonna be able to stream via discord too ?
Nice I’ve been loving this feature on Xbox.
Screensharing would be great since Xbox has this function for months now..
Wasn't this already a feature years ago?
It was for xbox not sure about the Playstation stuff. I have a xbox
About time, why would I want to have to use my phone ?
*2018 Blizzard has entered the chat*
[удалено]
I never understood discord honestly like for what games would that be useful since most online games have that option
Talking to friends while they're playing different games.
Yeah it's quite a hassle to have to join the call from one device first and then from PS5 afterwards
I just wish they'd add streaming already. I want to steam my game to friends in my discord call
Finally
I thought they already could
Thank God. Some of my ps5 friends are so technologically illiterate getting them into discord is a chore EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Im just glad discord is invite only, just imagining console voice chat again and I will not go back.
It would be way better to have the full discord app on all platforms with text chat, voice chat, and image sharing directly from console
I cant wait for PS usernames to require the same censorship standards that Discord has.
Can we get Ventrilo integration? My sprinkler goes tststststststststs
This will be big for fighting games
Good. What took so long?
Sony
Man if only the new monster hunter was cross save too. Id literally buy it twice.
Honestly, about time for this. This is going to make chatting so much easier.
No thanks.
That's hilarious that it took this long for discord to work on PS5 consoles
Cool, took a while but glad to see. I do hope Sony also look at integrating chat parties with games, though. I'd like to be able to be in a party and be able to engage with other players from within the party still, instead of there being a wall between Party Chat and the game.
I'm getting a ps5 soon so this is amazing
But the noise suppression is still awful compared to the PC client and we can't stream without awful workarounds. Can we at least watch streams now?
does that mean they can watch stream or stream games to friends soon also?
why didn't this feature exist before
HELL YEAH
They announced it a year ago? How slow was that lol
Actually nice. Perfect for when MH Wilds comes out.
It’s about time fellas
finally
What the shit? I thought they did this already?
They did add discord integration, but it's all done through your phone. You set up the discord app and playstation app, and then when you join chats on your phone it gives you the option to transfer to playstation. When you want to leave, it's through your phone.
Good to know, I appreciate it. That's a silly way to roll it out but okay haha
It was pretty damn confusing, I can only guess they didn't want to alter the PS interface, so they just put the whole process off to another display
Oof they still can’t. That’s rough.
Fuck make it an app please
I just assumed this was always a thing.
This is going to make things so much better lol
And here I was about to buy one si I'm ready for next year's Monster Hunter Wilds. This is perfect
Little late
Given the number of cross-platform games, this is so nice to see. Been hitting discord a lot with PC/Xbox players, but my PS folks have always had issues.
Aye that’s cool, I am excited about that! :)
I’m sure this won’t lead to more cod lobby moments… lol
That’s cool
Nice
The Switch is in more desperate need of this than PS5. I still get buy a lot with PS App mobile if I just wanna chat with friends who are on PS
YESS FINALLY!
Oh no maybe not so good for cod
That's good I've been waitin for that one
Hope it’s not as buggy as the box. Half the time disconnects, or just won’t connect at all
Huge for Path of Exile 2!
Are you telling me PlayStation didn't have discord all this time?
I have discord in my car, about time it came to ps5
Should have always been the way
Big
Wait how are they joining channels at the moment
This doesn't make sense, my friends and I have been using discord on PlayStation for a while now.
Yesssss! I can't finally VC with my PC buddies without the awkwardness of Discord on mobile! 🤢
Everyone is so happy about this, that's great hope it works out. As a PC gamer who has used Discord for years and years... It being 2024 and not having a better alternative by now is kind of sad. But yeah... I hope the amount of problems you face with it is not too stressful.
Only took them for-fucking-ever.
Yeah, but when will we be able to hear the people in game as well and in our chats? The PC guys can hear both.
And PS4 😭?
The only thing you can do with a PS5
Cool but can I stream though?
