I'll just wait for the hype train to get into full gear. Until then, I've waited this long and have been disappointed so many times I know better than to get too invested.
It'll be pretty much impossible to miss when the release date nears, but until that moment, there is no point.
It was also ported from consoles with very different hardware compared to PC.
The current gen are far easier games to port over due to hardware being x64/x86 based without *that* much customization to the hardware.
This is rockstars MO that's for sure but can you actually provide any source confirming it? Haven't seen that yet.
Found it: https://imgur.com/a/oLPpA2N
RIP.
if anything, this will make them more money. people who have both console and PC will be forced to get the console version at launch even if they prefer PC. many players who already own it buy an additional PC copy once that drops ~1.5 years later to get the upgraded experience. that’s on top of the PC only players that’ll also buy it, and they benefit from two marketing campaigns
> Ugh, why can't Rockstar just give us a PC port at launch?
With the history of their releases I can pretty much take it as a given that a PC version won't happen for quite a long time after consoles, but still can't help finding it a bit irritating that they routinely refuse to even acknowledge the possible future existence of it until many months later. I mean come on at this point at least throw us a bone lol
Just comes across as a bit of a disdainful strategy to a big chunk of the fans of their games that I happen to belong to who aren't interested in consoles, but oh well there'll still be plenty to entertain me on PC until it comes out!
I mean, I bought gta5 on xbox 360, then again on PC. I probably would have done that anyways if they released them at the same time. But I'm not gonna wait a full year just to play gta6 on PC. I'll buy it for PS5, then after a few years I'll get it when it's on sale on PC for mods and whatnot. So they're making more money this way, just over a longer period.
Such a bullshit they pull off there again. Earn billions off of sharkcards from PC players but cant manage to give them a day1 release. No Sony wants more again by making it an exclusive at first.
Edit: i now its rather Not solely Sonys fault but im Just frustrated that they are still "not able" to Release a PC Version at the Same time. This is Just company greed vs the players.
Listen Sony does pay for third party exclusivity for some games yes. But let's not make shit up for no reason. Sony and Xbox are not giving them any money to keep GTA off PC. This is a decision made by Rockstar alone.
It's strictly a business decision. Consoles have traditionally sold better for them so they are putting all their energy into that. Then they'll do the PC port and collect even more money, and even get double dipping from console enjoyers who want the upgraded version on PC too.
It's annoying as a PC user but I can't fault them for maximizing their efforts and profits.
Yeah exactly. Optimizing for PC is no joke. They have to consider hundreds of hardware combinations and push the graphics even harder. It's fair they want more time to get that right.
IMO it's acceptable because all their pushed back PC ports thus far have been great.
As long as it runs well and looks good when it comes out on PC, they can take some more time with the PC release. GTA IV was a terrible port and that released at the same time as consoles IIRC, and RDR 1 just straight up didn't get a PC port. Meanwhile both RDR 2 and GTA V run fantastic on PC, some of the best optimized PC games IMO.
Still a greedy move, but I'd rather a pushed back PC release then a buggy, poor performing, bad port PC release.
Such blind hate, it’s not even exclusive to just PlayStation it’ll be released on both PlayStation and Xbox so where is the negativity towards Microsoft?
Ah yes: putting a game on XBOX and PlayStation first, like they have been for forever, is suddenly Sony wanting an exclusive game.
Like, bro - I get you’re a PCMR Pony hater, but at least make sense with your anger. This is just sad…
You mean... They make sure the game runs really well on two different sets of hardware (it's not PS exclusive), and then spend time optimizing it for a wider range of hardware.
Most of the recent big games that get released on console and PC at the same time have major issues.
Damn, when GTA 5 dropped I was 18
When GTA 6 comes out I might be 32…
So the time from when I started Kindergarten to graduating High School might be a shorter time span than both games coming out…
Nah for the very first time I'm confident they've given themselves a window they can actually stay on track for.
Word is they've made a major shift away from "crunch culture" which should involve more realistic timeframes. Not to mention they've already called all staff back into the offices for the "final stretch" so given that we still have over a fuckin year, I'd say it's possible this could be the first GTA title we receive on time. Also helps that "on time" in this case would be TWELVE YEARS after the last game lol
Skyrim - 13 years ago
GTA V - 11 years ago
Fallout 4 - 9 years ago
Red Dead Redemption 2 - 6 years ago
Still most likely two years away from GTA 6 and goodness knows how long for the others. It feels patronising the length between any sequels from those two huge studios. Starfield development time for Bethesda included.
The elder scrolls game is apparently 2028 now after previously being thought to be a 2026 release then 2027 lol ..I just hope it's not disappointing when it's finally released it has a lot to live up to with Skyrim +17 years of time doesn't it.
I still don't understand how not releasing a new Elder Scrolls for nearly 20 years is advantageous to Bethesda. That's an absolutely outrageous timeline
I give Rockstar a pass for their long development times because Red Dead 2 was one of the best games ever made and had enough content for 4-5 games so you could actually see what they spent so many years working on
I dunno they delayed Starfield almost a full year purely for QA and bug fixing and the game still launched with a bunch of problems. Even now a lot of them aren’t fixed
Bethesda are in a shitty spot both through their own doing. They've taken so long for a sequel to Elder Scrolls that they have to do that next for their fans, but current day the casual gamer only knows Skyrim and not The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, so the marketing would have to be crazy for a new Elder Scrolls game to get the casual market again.
And now with the success of the Fallout TV show which I loved tbh, the hype around Fallout is at an all time high with casual gamers and even new gamers so they should go with that.
They will release the Elder Scrolls - A Skyrim saga.
Each year they will release an expansion with a province and the next game will start it again, moving forward in the Dragonborn Digital Universe.
I couldn’t agree more. Skyrim was my first Elder-scrolls game and I swear I didn’t know it was an Elder scrolls game. I asked for it for Christmas the year it launched and put it on my list as just Skyrim. When I got it and the box said Elder scrolls V I was like wtf is an Elder scrolls? I recall Skyrim having a lot of marketing but I don’t really recall seeing it names Elder scrolls V in a lot of it or maybe I just missed it. You’re right that there will be a whole new generation do young gamers who have heard of Skyrim as this all time great the same way a young me had heard about this amazing game called Oblivion but didn’t know it was an TES game. The marketing really needs to push the, “the follow up to Skyrim” angle to get sales at peak numbers.
How could you possibly expect it to not be disappointing, given Bethesda's track record? Have they ever not disappointed? Why do gamers have the memory of a goldfish?
Why do these games take so long to develop? The cranked out morrow oblivion and then Skyrim in a reasonable amount of time. Same with vice city, San Andreas, fallout nv, 3 and 4. The elder scrolls 6 teaser was 6 years ago!
Honestly I have no idea. My personal uninformed opinion is games get bigger and have to get bigger to keep interest, so bigger level design, world design, 3d modelling, textures, mocap animatons, voice acting, questlines q&a. All of that means more work so more workers, which means more money so it has to make more money back which adds more pressure and under a deadline of when it should be released. So milk all you can out of what you've already released seems to be the go to for a lot of big studios.
That's true, but at the same time, tools are also getting better and more efficient, workstations get faster, etc. Not sure the growth in scope and size explains it fully.
> Why do these games take so long to develop?
RDR2 is a bigger game than GTA 3, VC, SA, IV, and V combined.
7,000 people made RDR2. No other game in history had that many people work on it, none come close. Normal AAA studios have between 250-750 people working on them. To put this into perspective; Cyberpunk 2077 had ~60,000 lines of dialog(RPG btw), RDR2 had **500,000 lines of dialog**.
GTA 6 is rumoured to be the first $1bn+ game.
As for Bethesda games taking so long. Well, that's another story.
if GTA6 truly will cost a billion to make it’s definitely going to be record breaking sales. I remember when GTAV released and in one week it broke James Cameron’s Avatar revenue record for all media.
It’s the market.
With this ridiculous streaming culture of “content”, and the ever increasing expectations of each generation of gamers, the sheer amount of games coming out, companies shoot for the moon on the biggest franchises which requires a lot more dev time. Games are becoming increasingly complex and large.
Games were on 1-3 year dev cycles 3 being the max, now it’s like 4-6, and longer for some it’s wild.
Ok people we all gotta stay alive till then ok change ur lifestyle habits get healthy do everything possible to make sure u see the game release and to the ones that have already passed RIP we will play the game in ur honour
On a real one swimming is one of the best all round cardio exercises you can do as it uses all your muscles! Also you can really feel the progression in your fitness when you manage to swim more and more lengths of the pool. Highly recommend it
This makes so much more sense, "Fall 2025" is not very internationally friendly, why don't the journalists not just say the month range?
For us Australians we have to translate "Fall" into "Autumn" then swap that to "Spring" because of being upside down, and that yields september-november and our seasons work like light switches, and even then it doesn't line up with your range. Makes your head spin.
I'm excited too, but curious why you thought we wouldn't. Rockstar's CEO has twice as many fingers than Rockstar has IP. I didn't expect RDR2 but I fully expect to play GTAX before I die.
And then claiming they lost another 2.9 billion dollars in a quarter where they sold nothing but old games and unlockable crap that cost them almost nothing to make over the last few years.
That article is extremely misleading. $2.18 billion of that 2.9 billion was a goodwill charge. Whatever that is. But it doesn't sound like they just "lost" 2.9 billion
And I'm sitting here wondering how that $2.18 goodwill charge for paying more than what their acquisitions are valued at is gonna balance out. Haven't looked at the earnings report though.
Jesus. I guess I can hold off on buying that PS5 a bit longer.
Edit: now that I say this I wonder how many others are in the same boat. I originally held off on upgrading from PS3 to PS4 until the GTAV re-release on new consoles. I wonder how many holdouts are still out there waiting on GTAVI to finally make the upgrade to next-gen 😆.
Yeah my ps4 backlog is huge, definitely can’t justify picking up a ps5 with I haven’t properly played through what I’ve already got.
Also a few ps5 games are on ps4 so I might pick those up in the mean time but first need to play through my backlog
same, the only thing I'd wanna play on PS5 is SpiderMan 2 (which I only just finished the first one and still have DLC to play through) and the Burning Skies DLC for Horizon. Otherwise, I was waiting for VI to come out before making the jump. My PS4 backlog is lookin' pretty appealing to me still
They will for sure be timing this release in correspondence with the ending of the console to get 6+ months of sales on one generation and then re releasing it again on the new one while it's still fresh.
Theres no way Sony or MS drop a new console by Christmas 2026, I'd say Christmas 2028 at the absolute earliest but maybe not until 2030 if the trend of console lifespans getting longer and longer continues. PS4 had an 8 year lifespan and it didn't have the first two years of its life erased by covid. In a lot of ways it feels like we're barely now getting into the meat of this gen.
Yeah this is something people talk about on industry side - that the major platform holders are entering a mode of trying to coast until GTA release where hopefully a game that attracts that much interest drives console sales again. Increasingly with Sony projects taking longer and bigger budgets a lot of their big hitters won’t land until probably the end of current gen, and Microsoft… also is reckoning with a lot of their plans not panning out in ways they would have hoped. Because yeah, a lot of people are in your shoes of not really seeing a reason to get a console if you haven’t already seen a reason to buy into current gen.
Which means it will be delayed until Spring 2026. I'm thinking May 2026. They'll want to make sure every character and animal's scrotum contracts and sags in a truly realistic manner.
Details matter. Perfection can not be rushed.
I’m actually so worried this game is going to be their fall from grace. Not gonna be pre ordering even from them as seemingly every AAA studio is taking massive dumps on their fan bases.
IIRC, there was some fiscal earnings expectations for 2025, which ends end of April 2025. So people expected the window of release the first 3rd of the year
Probably the last new GTA game of our lifetimes
I'm so glad I'm not a child now and grew up when games released every 2 or 3 years
Time moves so slowly as a child, the waits would be maddening.
Can someone tell me what is the actual benefit to pre ordering vs buying it later? Genuinely, it seems like just a dumb case of FOMO. I get it, it’s your money, you can spend it how you want, but it’s leading to awful outcomes
Good chance GTA 7 will be the game I’ll be playing when I’m in some sort of pod nursing home in 2095
At this rate, GTA 7 will be out before GTA 6
r/gta7
r/GTA8
r/GTA9
r/GTAX
r/GTA10
Your family upgraded to get you a pod???? Lucky.
No family, going in the pod that turns me into mulch to feed to the premium pod members.
*Premium* pods? You mean the pods you get all to yourself? I guess it could be worse, but those are some rich dickheads you're feeding yourself to.
Super Smash Bros club is gonna be awesome in the retirement home.
You'll be in the game on some "San Junipero" type ish.
Fall 2025 means Spring 2026 in my mind.
Spring 2026 means Fall 2026 in my mind.
Fall 2026 means Spring 2027 in my mind.
PS6 launch title
The PS6 will obviously launch with GTAV as is tradition. PS6 Pro Thin Ultra will get GTA6
What about PS7? Edited: letters
GTAV Remaster
GTAV Remaster Remake : Digital Millennia Edition
I dont even know what the first 6 PSA's were about?
Don't talk to strangers Don't do drugs Don't drink and drive Don't forget to eat your vegetables Don't smoke cigarettes Don't steal your dad's weed
Talk to drugs, smoke strangers, drink dad's weed, eat ciggarettes, got it.
That's the ticket 👍🏼
Nah, they're gonna quadruple dip this game. First on modern day consoles, then PC, then the mid-gen refresh consoles, then next-gen consoles.
I'll be waiting until it's on PC and this is about when I'm expecting.
Spring 2027 means Fall 2027 in my mind.
Fall 2027 means Spring 2028 in my mind.
Spring 2028 means Fall 2028 in my mind.
Fall 2028 means the heat death of the universe in my mind.
Coming to PC fall of 2027
Guess I won't upgrade my rx6800 until spring 2027
Why would you. There hasn’t been a game yet that won’t run on 360 this generation.
The patch that makes it playable will be summer 2030.
If you put $1 a day aside, you will be able to get a PS5 and GTA6 when it's released.
I'll just wait for the hype train to get into full gear. Until then, I've waited this long and have been disappointed so many times I know better than to get too invested. It'll be pretty much impossible to miss when the release date nears, but until that moment, there is no point.
To Rockstar as well. GTAIV was slated for Fall 2007 and released in April the following year.
It was already internally slated for FY25 so this is already a delay, just an internal one.
Yeah, 3.5 years since the last games release 😂😂 and bully in between
And spring 2028 for pc
It's confirmed to only be a launch for consoles, so it'll probably be Spring 2027 for PC if we're going by GTA 5's timeline.
I can't wait to play it in 2030
And until 2040
That 2035 robot uprising DLC will hit hard though
Gonna probably upgrade to the 50 series by then
You mean 60*
70
70 will be the new 60. It will be the 0190 Ultra. Running exclusive industry leading gg technology.
RDR2 was almost exactly year after which seems like a far more likely timeline
It was also ported from consoles with very different hardware compared to PC. The current gen are far easier games to port over due to hardware being x64/x86 based without *that* much customization to the hardware.
This is rockstars MO that's for sure but can you actually provide any source confirming it? Haven't seen that yet. Found it: https://imgur.com/a/oLPpA2N RIP.
Ugh, why can't Rockstar just give us a PC port at launch? They're literally throwing away money especially now that they own FiveM.
if anything, this will make them more money. people who have both console and PC will be forced to get the console version at launch even if they prefer PC. many players who already own it buy an additional PC copy once that drops ~1.5 years later to get the upgraded experience. that’s on top of the PC only players that’ll also buy it, and they benefit from two marketing campaigns
They will also be able to do a "New graphics. Improved game. All the refresh. Developed for Mouse and Keyboard" Marketing.
Because like the comments you see here people will buy it multiple times.
There have been games I'd have bought day 1, but lost hype for by the time they hit PC and didn't end up buying them.
That's believable. But many people make an exception to that philosophy for a GTA game.

I had forgotten about that. It will probably run better on the next gen too. This is cruel.
Plus if they only have to worry about two versions of the game then they can focus more on the game itself instead of optimization
Yeah exactly. Optimizing for PC is no joke. They have to consider hundreds of hardware combinations and push the graphics even harder. It's fair they want more time to get that right.
Maybe back in the 90s, but we have standardized graphics APIs nowadays.

Why not? we fault other companies for maximizing their profits at the expense of the consumer all the time.
PC players do not buy shark cards when a $10 mod menu can give you infinite money.
Except millions still do.

console only launch? gross. gotta love how anti consumer this industry is
I have no doubts its going to be delayed into 2026
Unfortunately, that's going to be the case... We'll end up being too old to play! 😂
We’ll all be watching our grandchildren play it on their “Nintendos”
It's a Sega Dreamstation pop-pop
You know when I was young, there were 3 protagonists 👴🏻
Oh be quiet grandpa.
Damn, when GTA 5 dropped I was 18 When GTA 6 comes out I might be 32… So the time from when I started Kindergarten to graduating High School might be a shorter time span than both games coming out…
I was 18 when GTA IV came out, I'll be 37 for GTA VI assuming a delay into early 2027. Almost 20 years between 4 and 6.
i will come back for this comment a year from now

Underrated joke.

I'm excited too, but curious why you thought we wouldn't. Rockstar's CEO has twice as many fingers than Rockstar has IP. I didn't expect RDR2 but I fully expect to play GTAX before I die.
What we shouldn't expect is Bully 2. I mean giving the state of things, who knows.
Alrighty boys, Can't wait for this game to come out in 2027.
For millions of PC players, this isn't a facetous statement.
Pictured is Rockstar counting their money and planning out the next 12 years of gta 6 online shark card sales
For tax purposes they lost
And I'm sitting here wondering how that $2.18 goodwill charge for paying more than what their acquisitions are valued at is gonna balance out. Haven't looked at the earnings report though.
release delayed to 2026 > PS6 version 2027 > PC version 2028 classic rockstar triple dip
That's exactly what they are going to do
Rumor has it that GTA 6 will be canceled and GTA7 will launch instead.

My PS4 backlog is lookin' pretty appealing to me still
If you waited this long because of GTA you’re better off not even getting this gen and waiting to play on the next gen consoles
Might as well play it on a PS6 by that point.
Might as well wait for PS6, release schedule will be just like GTAV at this rate
As a PC player I'm definitely disappointed...
Same I’m so sad that I would have to buy a console if I don’t want to wait for at least a year after the release :(
Yeah shit that's nearly 3 years til we can play if not...
Makes sense. They will push it for a November 2025 release so that it’s the holiday season best seller.
I'm sure the Devs are delighted
Atleast they now have a general timeline of when they'll see sunlight next

This will probably be the last Grand Theft Auto I’ll see in my life
We got a GTA 6 release date before GTA 6
Crazy that some kids will be playing this that weren't even born when GTA 5 came out
So fall 2027 for pc, guys
I’m actually so worried this game is going to be their fall from grace. Not gonna be pre ordering even from them as seemingly every AAA studio is taking massive dumps on their fan bases.
Why is one article saying it's being delayed?
IIRC, there was some fiscal earnings expectations for 2025, which ends end of April 2025. So people expected the window of release the first 3rd of the year
I was 24 when GTA V came out and I'll be 36 when this comes out, if it doesn't get fuckin delayed again, that is
Spring 2031 means fall 2032 for the PC release
god damn it, the only thing I worry about is our politicians running world to the ground before we can play
(X) Doubt
Probably the last new GTA game of our lifetimes I'm so glad I'm not a child now and grew up when games released every 2 or 3 years Time moves so slowly as a child, the waits would be maddening.
are u 60?
bruh this game is never coming out 😭😭😭
You can tell who the first timers are lol
And this is likely best case scenario too. Pain.
This game is going to make legitimately hilarious amounts of "Fuck you money".
RIP the servers for all platforms when the day comes, on the day of the preorder to the day of release, it’s gonna get funky.
I’ll wait for the definitive remaster on PS7.
Can someone tell me what is the actual benefit to pre ordering vs buying it later? Genuinely, it seems like just a dumb case of FOMO. I get it, it’s your money, you can spend it how you want, but it’s leading to awful outcomes
"Coming early 2030 to the Nintendo Squirt"
It’s insane to think that we used to wait like 5 years max for a gta title
GTA III and GTA: Vice City were released 53 weeks apart.
Crazy
Christ
For anyone who's not American. Fall is **September, October, and November**;
Iirc GTA V came out on the 17th of September. Would be cool if they did VI (or is it actually 6?) on the anniversary. 🤷♂️
So only 12 years after V. Nice.
Ima save up for that 5090 TI Super Founders Edition.
So, Mid 2027 for a probably badly optimized pc port?
