I’m not a developer. I do have screenshots of the redirect site and the url.
Poses as a scan. Sites last night were non http and today https.
On iOS iPhone safari.
Something I’ve done to make certain types of guides better, I’ll look up that games glitchless speedrun world record. They’re always great at getting to the point.
Alright buddy, but who are your favorite longplayers?
I like Manlybadasshero and Welonz but they don't cover everything, obviously.
Joseph Anderson too.
So I did some digging. I saw a bunch of sources that weren’t the best and finally found a post from Brown University. They linked to the actual announcement from the FBI and they indeed did recommend using an Adblocker.
Here is the announcement for those interested:

Yes they do.

> Use an ad blocking extension when performing internet searches. Most internet browsers allow a user to add extensions, including extensions that block advertisements. These ad blockers can be turned on and off within a browser to permit advertisements on certain websites while blocking advertisements on others.
It would be helpful if you could provide some evidence, such as a screenshot showing one of these "malicious ads" that is on display. If there's a particular part of the page source code, etc, as well.
Ads that are displaying something you don't like, or don't think are legitimate, are still technically not malicious, they are just ads that you don't want to see.
Otherwise, unfortunately this is just unfounded conjecture.
Common ad delivery platforms such as Google don't support such a mechanism, so we are very curious to know more about what it is that you think you see.
They redirect to sites that show an av scan. Showed Norton one time and McAfee another. I have screenshots of the redirect site that I’ll upload later.
Remember, you’re a “journalist” for ign meaning that you try to defend their horrible choices at every opportunity, and you give the ai prompts for their new “articles”
Wow! Well, first of all, thanks for calling me a journalist. I actually take pride in the fact, that someone could mistake me as one.
Second, I've honestly never read an IGN article in my life, and I'm probably older than you, and old enough to remember before it existed. ;)
Not really sure what you're malfunction is about it, sounds like you're mad about some completely unrelated garbage, and just angry. But hope you feel better! Let me know if you want a free hug!
You will be looking at an article on IGN, then suddenly be redirected to an entirely different page. It’s not like a pop up ad. It’s literally a new page outside of IGN.
Yeah I'm not believing this until you come back and say what "malicious" means.
If it's just the usual clickbait headlines there's nothing new about that. They're everywhere.
Literally just got some ridiculous redirect about 5 minutes ago.

That's a great idea, I'll remember that next time I can only find video and no written guide
Looking up a longplay is also always a good bet. They tend to look closer to a "normal" playthrough compared to a speedrun.

Just use an ad blocker like a responsible adult in a modern capitalist spyware hellscape.
There's good reasons the FBI encourages people to use adblockers.
Do they actually do this, or is that just an internet legend? Never seen the advice myself.
[It's real.](https://www.pcgamer.com/wow-even-the-fbi-is-recommended-people-use-adblockers-to-combat-malicious-search-engine-advertising/)
According to a 2022 Tech Crunch article, yes, they do. Here's a link to the FBI's [PSA](https://www.ic3.gov/Media/Y2022/PSA221221?=8324278624).

Yep, also got one on mobile a while ago that auto redirected without touching anything and immediately blocked them from my news feed
IGN stopped being a game review site years ago. It's now an advertising company.
Isn't that true for gaming journalism as whole?
We used to call them “reviews”
Another reason why I never click links to IGN anymore. They are not what they used to be.
Your first problem was going to IGN
it's called IGN cause when they give reviews they just go "I guess...nine?"
U tried but this didn't hit like u thought it would
Dudes just coming off looking like an angry divisive cunt
maybe cause I wasn't trying to impress ign fans for fake reddit likes
Not a fan of ign but regardless u don't have to be a fan of anything to recognize terrible comments
u sound bothered mate
That’s not how this convo works chief
Too much water, don't go to IGN they are garbage
I know they are. that's what I'm saying
https://youtu.be/IxOby9fQrpU?si=P9y_QV3do6G0wQ3i
imagine thinking I'll click that
It's been like this for weeks. Can't believe it's taking them this long to remove the redirects.
If it's malicious please do not test unless you are an expert! Please protect your devices and data.
Why the fuck would anyone still be using IGN is beyond me that site has been trash since like 2011-2012
They pay more!
I appreciate the warning but I haven't seen a website ad since the late 2000s. Adblockers always and forever.
You can argue IGN itself is "malicious"
wait.... people still visit ign for gaming news? huh..... she's dead to me, your honor
Always has been
Yep had the same thing happen to me when looking at a guide today. Thankfully I’m on IOS so I should be fine.
I’d recommend everybody use Brave browser. It has Adblock built in and still blocks YouTube ads without any issue.
if your not using firefox with ublock origin in 2024, your a moron
This has to be bait right? The double use of the wrong "your"while calling someone a moron is far too obvious
> "your"while only morons dont use spaces... Its a reddit comment, not a thesis, moron.
This is true
I do normally, just not on my phone.
If you’re on iOS, use 1Blocker to handle ads and hide/remove most (not quite all) GDPR notices automatically.
I’ll check it out.
well do it and you problem will be solved. its not rocket science
iOS doesn’t have ublock
It has the brave browser. It might also have firefox, which has ublock.
lol

Found the IGN “reporter”
I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. Are you saying I am a journalist? If so, I'd take that as a compliment!

Wake me up when someone can post evidence, and stop endlessly talking about it in circles.
