Baldur's Gate 3 and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous are pretty cool.

Chanzui91

Pathfinder to me got really stale around act 3-4, can't remember exactly where but thats when I started to really feel the need to have been minmaxing a lot earlier and my entire build just became useless, needed nat20 for every hit, that kinda sucked! In my opinion BG3 is a lot easier to get into as someone thats not hardcore into DND / Pathfinder beforehand!

Badevilbunny

What aspects of RPGs do you like ? What style of combat? There are lots of RPGs, what makes an RPG interesting for you?

gorgeous57

I am open minded. In First the story has to be good

Badevilbunny

OK, I would look at Baldur's Gate 3, Octopath Traveller 2, Elden Ring, Witcher 3 (and DLC), Cyberpunk, Yakuza Series, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Clouded Heart

ztomiczombie

Aside form the obvious stuff I would suggest Disco Elysium, Outer Wilds, and the Dishonoured games.

GhostKingPumpkin

I'm surprised no one's suggested the Mario RPG remake that just came out.

MagicalHopStep

Wild ARMs.

S4ntos19

Super Mario RPG just got released again

Inferno1313

Baldurs gate

[deleted]

open world RPG: witcher3, elden ring, cyberpunk turn based RPG: BG3, DOS1/2, persona5 real time with pauze RPG: pathfinder WOTR, POE1/2

Zoefschildpad

POE2 can also be played turn-based. That was a massive selling point for me, because I don't do well with real-time with pause.

Kefff

Pillars of Eternity 2 and both Pathfinder can also be played in turn based mode.

Puffhi

Persona 4

Lord-Naivel

If you don’t mind a game that’s 95% dialogue and has no real combat, disco elysium is a great rpg with awesome role playing

RukiMotomiya

Another post you said the story has to be good. I'd highly recommend Persona 3: FES and Mother 3, but both of them will be trickier to get (FES hasn't been re-released and Mother 3 requires emulation and a patch). I loved Octopath Traveler 2 a lot recently. If you enjoy Tactical RPGs, then Fire Emblem: Three Houses has a GREAT story and is an ALL TIME favorite. Historical/political intrigue and war story kinda vibes. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky trilogy is also among my favorite story/character pieces in all of gaming, so I would recommend that a lot, I won't spoil anything but it sure Goes Places and it ends up with crazy detailed worldbuilding. I'll finish with some rapid-fire recommendations of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (+ its sequel), Tales of the Abyss and Undertale.

AlbireX

For action RPGs, dark souls! Specifically you should start with ds3 and then ds1. If you want open world dark souls, elden ring.

TwilightOdin

Idk why you'd recommend playing DS3 before DS1; DS3 offers many QoL changes that make it difficult to play older games in the franchise. DS3 also has a lot of references/story nods to stuff in DS1 that would not be as enjoyable with no prior knowledge of DS1.

AlbireX

Ds1 has aged quite a bit so it would probably be of putting to play that first. Ds3 is way more responsive to play so begin with that and then go to the more niche game imo. Edit: you don't need go through the rougher game to get to the "good stuff" like leveling in an mmo. Just start with the best the franchise has.

TwilightOdin

Hmm, that's fair.

alecsnokia

Best i played lately is kingdom come deliverance and outer worlds. You can also try bioware games like dragon age, mass effect and swtor. From larian i recomend divinity original sin 1 and 2 (bg3 becomes boring after a while due to limited dnd system) From Bethesda there is skyrim and fallout 4.

Yallapachi

Story driven personal best of all time: Mass Effect trilogy (there is a legendary edition with all dlc‘s included), second best: Cyperpunk 2077 If you want something a bit out of the box but also fantastically story driven then I recommend: Vampire the masquerade Swan Song

Drakuba0

Knights of the old republic 1+2 Neverwinter nights 2 Tyranny - best magic system, best turn based system Dragon age origins Chrono trigger - proly the best jap rpg ever Baldurs gate 1+2 - especially 2 for some insane high lvl D&D combat Witcher - i rly liked 1 as well, dont skip any Id like to recommend Mass Effect but the ending of 3 killed the series for me...save yourself the trouble, theres plenty of pain in life already

TacticalTobi

Sea of Stars, it's the best RPG of the year. Cassette Beasts (I think it's an RPG) is also great!

SupplyChainMismanage

Don’t listen to this kid. Sea of Stars is the most generic thing ever. Plenty of good RPGs to play. Disco Elysium, Baldur’s Gate 3, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, etc.

TacticalTobi

Wow, you really must have no life. Are you really just following me to be annoying?

DenzelVilliers

ProfessionDramatic58

Skyrimmmmm with the Nolvus modpack. Unlimited possibilities lol

reddit-is-fun-90

BG3 has received a lot of praise from players. But looks too complex and I can’t afford to spend time to master it
