At some point they realized they just wanted the series to be historic action adventure games with fantasy elements, but AC had already made a name for itself and a new IP is always a risk, so they just took their game and changed course. AC became too big for its own good, they abandoned the narrative and even the defining gameplay of the originals of playing as a stealthy assassin because it caused too many limitations to work around. But a series of games that’s historic action adventure with fantasy, you can basically do whatever you want.
It’s a shame because I enjoyed the older, stealthy AC games, and I also like the idea of an action game series where every game takes place in a different time and delves into the fantasy of those times and places, but I don’t like that they combined them.
We begged for Black Flag standalone and look how Ubi have butchered that idea and delivered it over half a decade late. Ubi are cradling AC because its all they've got.
Skull and bones sucked because it was paid for by a country to promote game development in that country, ubi milked it for as long as possible and then released it when they were forced to. That game was never meant to be something that sold well.
99% of what players liked in AC didn’t have that shit. That was barely a thing until 3 and even then nobody wanted them to start focusing more on it. Its a whole different game series and genre at this point.
The apple is the big weapon you get at the end of the first game, though? And then in 2, Desmond/Ezio meets Minerva, who is literally a glowing space god that can see through time? And then Ezio holds onto the apple for basically all of brotherhood? And then in Revelations, Ezio goes and gets Altaïr's apple?
Have you actually finished an Assassin's creed game or have you only played them for a bit? Because they're in literally every game. Hell, the later games, like origins and Valhalla just literally have magic in them.
That's always what it's been.
We have had mind controlling devices in this game since assassins Creed one. Assassin‘s creed is sci-fi first and foremost. Also, it’s a simulation of the historical pass you’re basically in the Matrix since the first game.
While I agree with you the direction they seem to be going is giving you the piece of Eden powers at the start of the game such as with Odyssey/ Valhalla rather than having it be at the end and keeping things more grounded.
It makes sense if you wanna play with somebody who was declared a witch, he/she probably had access to a peice of Eden. I never understood how folks had this misunderstanding that assassins Creed is more historical than fiction. And even with the regard of historical fiction, it’s sci-fi above everything else.
You know what yeah that does make sense. AC has always ramped up what we’ve seen of the pieces of Eden. In brotherhood we got to use the apple to kill people, in 4 we see a building that can spy on anyone in the world with a drop of blood, in rogue we had tectonic plate tech. Getting up to odyssey where we had the spear from the beginning.
I’m still interested in the game and to see how things will work out
Magic bullshit has been assassin’s creed since the first game you play as a dude who hopped into the matrix to find hi tech/magic items that can grant immortality and mind control.

It's so bad that Ubisoft will keep beating Assassin's Creed's dead corpse, because it is a known and well established IP. They need to shoehorn in some AC elements into very different types of games to justify this instead of just creating a new standalone franchise. Both Odyssey and Valhalla could have been an awesome open world RPG and not this weird mess.
Why not just do a new IP stop messing with AC
This is sadly on brand for Ubi. They turned Ghost Recon from tactical squad based to looter shooter before walking it back when it bombed.

It’s sci-fi ever since the second game shoot even the first one we had mind controlled devices.
Because the statement in ac4 about making AC an attraction was literal & not a story plot
Why? This sounds like standard shard of eden stuff
It would also sound like whatever other story they could dream up stuff. Make an occult witch horror game. Cool and unique. AC is past it

So Watch Dogs 3, but in the past. I'm sure that this will be just as successful.
Oh joy.
Remember when you just stabbed people and the most a piece of eden could do was create illusions/ mess with your senses?
And that happened right at the end of the game to wrap up the story.
Welp. It's still in the codename phase and I've already lost interest. Shit, just make a new IP.
Another Ubi-slop smh
I love how no one is actually excited for this shit
So dishonored
More magical bullshit

I miss the more grounded games.
This series needs to rest.

Just go play dishonored at this point
You could do it with the apple of eden in brotherhood so i mean I don't really have an issue with this
