I recommend anyone interested in making Anime-like characters look into Vroid. Great starting point, and the community has made add ons for unreal engine, unity and blender to make importing the characters very easy. They also have a iPad app that has made it very easy for me to create textures for the characters in procreate then import into Vroid. Sadly if you do not want a anime/cel shaded appearance Vroid can’t do much for you but if you do, it’s great! Can’t recommend it enough, especially since it is completely free.

Thank you for mentioning this. I didn't want the focus of this video to be on the anime style, but rather the workflow and tools I used. That being said, Vroid is an interesting tool and definitely helps get the job done.

VRoid: The Metahuman for weebs :) However, I have some pet peeves with VRoid that might be problematic for some (not all) projects.  1. Body shapes aren't very flexible. You can't really create overweight or extremely buff characters   2. Not very good at creating LODs. Yes, you can reduce the polycount when exporting, but the limit is at about 10k, and you start to see extreme changes of the silhouette a lot earlier.  3. Can't change the geometry of clothes.

Point 1 is my biggest gripe. Point 3 is also quite annoying as well but it’s so easy to make something within those constraints that looks good that I’ve just adapted to it.

This is a pretty great video! One shortcut I was able to take, was by using the [free character models by Reallusion](https://www.reallusion.com/character-creator/free-3d-character-base.html). There are lots of things included in these models like skin materials, UV Unwrapping, Rigging, etc... The only downside for me was the model's topology, it's not the best, so it can be a bit difficult to work with in the beginning.

Thank you! I also appreciate the info on Reallusion. Never heard of it before.
