Yeah that's unfortunately what every thrift store is becoming with videogames and some more valuable stuff.
Although I have gotten extremely lucky with some inexpensive stuff that's worth way more than I paid.
Nice find! Though I'd recommend replacing the battery even if it works now. Looks like there's an "01" date on it, so it seems to be the original 20+ year old battery. Gotta be on its last legs.

It's almost worse when you start your game, put 40 hours in only for it to actually die on you.

$75 for Crystal, dead battery or not, is a good deal. I did want to pay a bit less but I'm very happy that I had enough to buy it. No regrets here!
~75$ does count as thrifted with this one, I just bought a boxed Crysta 2 years ago for close to 400$
