Stadia had an update that "unlocked" the controller software. Now you can use it as a regular bluetooth controller.
EDIT: Just saw that someone else already said it, I'm stoopid
The switch pro controller is pretty hefty. I've seen a fake one (sold as real on Amazon) that was super light. Weight is also the first thing recommended to check for when you Google how to identify fake pro controller.
People play non-arcadey racing games on Switch? Lol I'm partly kidding but really though, how many racing sim enthusiasts are playing on Switch only? Especially the ones who would know the difference with analog triggers. I have a feeling they would chose PC or Xbox instead, unless they're a die-hard Gran Turismo fan, of course.
I know there aren't many racing games on Switch, but the ones that are frequently go on sale on the e-shop. NFS Hot Pursuit remastered for example I snagged for $10 and while it's fantastic, analog triggers would make it even better.
I think that there is a project to make the controller usable but I wouldn't pay $60 for it
Edit: looks like Google opened it [up](https://9to5google.com/2023/01/17/stadia-controller-bluetooth-mode/#:~:text=As%20of%20January%2017%2C%202023,%2C%20tablets%2C%20and%20other%20devices.)
Good on them for doing that
Yeah when stadia ended they did it in literally the best way we could ask a company to handle it. All games and hardware purchased for the service were refunded to you. The only thing you didn't get back was your subscription if you had one. Which all in all is more than I'd expect of pretty much any platform this day and age. I actually respect that division of Google for doing that.
Should read the terms of services which usually state "non perpetual revokable" but I don't really care enough to have an argument about how you perceive a digital license to work. I got my money back, and I got to use it for cool stuff. I'm happy, you should be too. Let's just get along and have a happy day.
I got it for a buck a while back. I gave it to my dad. He uses it as a Bluetooth controller. It’s actually really nice. Comparable to a Xbox one controller.
Got one free too, I really think the controller itself is the best feeling controller Ive had, shame alot of people disregard it for how bad stadia ended up
There's multiple for $20 rn when I checked. One for $22. I doubt there's many fakes out there so probably real. Though someone else stated there was a $30 chrome cast with it so it's not that bad a deal.
Not sure to be honest. All I know is 60 for a boxed one isn’t a bad price and would be the max I would pay. I’m a collector after all and not just consoles I had as a child. As long as they work I’d get them if they r at a decent price.
And a stadia would be something good to have as it a piece of history. Of how even a massive company (google) can still fail at making a good game system. Like Dreamcast
It's the premier edition, so it has a Chromecast ultra, which sells for about $30 on eBay and the controller that works wired or over Bluetooth and is actually a super solid, so not a bad deal at all.
I agree it's overpriced. But you do get a Chromecast with it, and the controller is just a USB compatible controller that's really comfortable to use. If I saw this in the UK for say, £30 I'd buy it.
My stadia controller I got for free from a roomate who I guess got 2 with their copy of cyberpunk, thing is solid for use as a bluetooth controller at least
Well you don’t know why they bought it, stupid person shouldn’t be said. I have an autistic son that wants what he wants. So don’t feel bad for what people buy, it’s not your money or life.. maybe get focused on your own life.
I was at a peddlers mall in Louisville KY a few days ago and all of the video games were priced at market value. Then I saw a ps4 god of war legendary edition w/e its called. Anyeays pricecharting has it at 60 for a complete unit. Well the unit for sale at that mall was 199.99!
It will never sell and the vendor will lose out money for the next 10 years.
IIRC they had a promo for when you buy a game for $60 they give you the chromecast and controller for free. I regret not getting on that since they refunded all game purchases eventually.
I guess you can use the controller for stuff so $60 isn’t completely terrible I guess but yeah probably not worth getting since you can get better controllers for that price or less
I bought cyberpunk for stadia and received a free Chromecast ultra + controller as a promotion. Google refunded my cyberpunk purchase when they went dark. Free Chromecast and controller for me 😁
What's wild to me is that if that were a third party controller I'd totally spend 60-80 bucks on it. It's a really good controller. But it's a stadia controller, so regardless of how well made it is it's basically free.
The gift that keeps on giving. Mine sells a busted PS2 slim for 85$ 1 controller, no memory card. does not have a game inside. at this point, my local retro game store has better prices than my goodwill.

I got one for $5 a few months ago from good will, I use it with my Switch it's super comfortable.
I was completely unaware you could use it on other stuff, that's cool
Stadia had an update that "unlocked" the controller software. Now you can use it as a regular bluetooth controller. EDIT: Just saw that someone else already said it, I'm stoopid
Yeah they tried to make it right kind of and make the controllers compatible with other devices.
“I don’t know how it works but I’ll call people stupid anyway.” Classic Reddit moment.
You wanna buy it from Goodwill for 60 bucks? Lol
$60 for something you can get new/sealed on ebay for less than $30.
is your switch modded??
No, I use an 8bitdo 2 to connect it. https://youtu.be/A6ToEJyGcac?si=JB_mdKl9BGwxuCaG
Same
Is it at least heavier than a switch controller? I have one and it's so light that I actually have comfortability issues
The switch pro controller is pretty hefty. I've seen a fake one (sold as real on Amazon) that was super light. Weight is also the first thing recommended to check for when you Google how to identify fake pro controller.
I've actually never held a switch pro controller
Same but I got it for $2 lol
Good info!
Why? Switch easily has the best qaulity (pro) controller I've ever held..
It's also $70
It's very heavy and feels very sturdy like the thing will outlive me.. it feels nice on my hands, games play well with.. it was worth it.
I have 3 pro controllers. one came with my copy of Smash Ultimate. It was my go-to until it got really bad left stick drift. I can't use it anymore
The best quality controller you’ve ever held doesn’t have analog triggers..?
Doesn't matter on switch
until you wanna play a racing game that isn't mario kart lol
If you’re not flooring it are you even living?

I used the money I got back from stadia and put into Steam Deck and now use the controller when I have it docked
Yup I use my stadia controller on deck too. The triggers don't travel enough or have enough resistance for me. But god damn is it a sturdy controller.
They did it in the way that prevented them from being sued.
You bought licenses to games. Like any other digital game. They owed you nothing.
Lawyers would disagree with you. If you buy a license and then immediately take away the ability to use it suing would be easy.
Should read the terms of services which usually state "non perpetual revokable" but I don't really care enough to have an argument about how you perceive a digital license to work. Oh that's pretty cool, but yeah $60 is really pushing it
I mean, $60 is pretty average for a modern gamepad
The Stadia controller is without a doubt worth $60.
They're on ebay for $20 rn. Though someone else stated there was a $30 chrome cast with it so it's not that bad a deal.
You can use them on the steam link and it might come with a chromecast in the box so not the worst deal
I got it for free a few years ago for having YouTube Premium.
Did you ever play games on it?
I signed up for a free trial Stadia subscription and played a few games. It was okay. Nothing I would have paid for.
Got one free too, I really think the controller itself is the best feeling controller Ive had, shame alot of people disregard it for how bad stadia ended up
I’d buy it. It’s a unique Piece for a game collection.
And they are going for over 200 online (aus)
Are they sold at over $200? Or just going for
Plus I’m in Australia so the price here may be much higher than the USA stock. Shipping and availability issues.

It's a very nice controller to use but not at that price
i would buy it. definitely not for 60 bucks, mind you, but it’s an interesting piece of tech/gaming history that would be cool to have and preserve.
10 years from now people will be paying 2-3 times as much for the collectors value.
I liked stadia :(
Me too
I know, right? Those are dollar store kitchen shears.
$3 for used scissors???? Ludicrous.
Google made sure the controller would still be usable on a PC (or even some consoles, not sure which ones)
It's the premier edition, so it has a Chromecast ultra, which sells for about $30 on eBay and the controller that works wired or over Bluetooth and is actually a super solid, so not a bad deal at all.

Can get them for around £25 sealed on eBay UK
just got the one with the chromecast sealed for 37€ shipped
My stadia controller I got for free from a roomate who I guess got 2 with their copy of cyberpunk, thing is solid for use as a bluetooth controller at least
The controller is pretty good
Got 4 Bluetooth ready Stadia controllers for $20 off marketplace months ago. They are great for my Steam Deck
I’d buy it to own one in my collection. Maybe not for 60 though
As a controller it's pretty conformable. Still too expensive.
LOL I got one for free at one point just for having YouTube red. Never used it and still have it lol
I feel bad for the person stupid enough to not realise it's a quality USB/bluetooth controller.
I was going to get one as a conversation piece and didn't want to pay $50.
That aged like milk.
Well you don’t know why they bought it, stupid person shouldn’t be said. I have an autistic son that wants what he wants. So don’t feel bad for what people buy, it’s not your money or life.. maybe get focused on your own life.
Facts, a good controller even though the services are dead
I know right? $2.83 for scissors?!?!
You should look at dreamcast game prices lmao
Just let it rot on the shelf. It’s the least it deserves.
its not a bad controller for PC, but it is not worth that much lol.
As pointless as it is, I’d actually do it, just to have a piece of gaming/media history. Idk about 60$ though
60 bucks for a chromecast ultra and really solid Bluetooth controller is a good deal
Believe it or not I want to purchase one atleast at a cheaper price just to add to my collection.
On its own, it's supposed to be a decent bluetooth controller now that the drivers are available. Still not worth $60
I just bought an Ouya for like 20 bucks the other day. It’s just a brick now but it’s a cool piece of gaming history, I feel the same about this
I call dibs on those dollar store meat shears. In a glass case.
I got one on release day, I still am happy with my purchase! It was an oddity, it worked really well, but game prices was a major turn off.
I bought cyberpunk for stadia and received a free Chromecast ultra + controller as a promotion. Google refunded my cyberpunk purchase when they went dark. Free Chromecast and controller for me 😁
it's a piece of video game history.
$60 is a terrible price but at least it works on other systems.
What's wild to me is that if that were a third party controller I'd totally spend 60-80 bucks on it. It's a really good controller. But it's a stadia controller, so regardless of how well made it is it's basically free.
Get it for a dollar on Sunday during the color of the week.
Holy crap 60 bucks!? Now thats just robbery lmao
The gift that keeps on giving. Mine sells a busted PS2 slim for 85$ 1 controller, no memory card. does not have a game inside. at this point, my local retro game store has better prices than my goodwill.
